tannedincali comments on SAN ANDRES FOR SEMANA SANTA

I've never been in San Andres in Semana santa but I was there like 4 months ago and I was amazed about the improvements of the island ( 8 years ago was my last visit) , specially the beach where most of the hotels are located. I recommend this site http://mysanadres.com

tannedincali comments on The Finnish Spanish Student

jajaja LOL I hope he didn't buy it , the articles in those papers I think are written by people who don't even graduated from school, it's crap. I think I feel the same as Jaakko when I try to understand rap lyrics.

tannedincali comments on shipping times to colombia

Amazon delivery estimate have worked for me The last book I purchased was shipped on April 25:

"Shipment #1: Shipped on April 25, 2007"

and the delivery estimate given by amazon was:

"Delivery estimate: May 11, 2007 - May 21, 2007"

And the book arrived on May 11 to my home in Cali.

tannedincali comments on Recent studies suggest that Colombia does not have Real Bilingual Schools

English in schools sucks. I didn't attend a bilingual school but I know many people that go to the university after 6 or more years of English classes and don't know how to ask a question. I think English is a must in a globalized world and the government should take care of this. It is not the same if you learn from a non native English speaker, but I guess salaries and security here don't attract many people to come .

tannedincali comments on Quick translation help...

"registrarse ya" , "registrese ya", "registrarse", "registrate.. You can check any spanish site to get an idea of what's frecuently used. I agree with bueno_pues, when you translate exactly what is used in english sites you may end up with weird words like in the search boxes it's frecuently used "Go" for the button to get the results, but when you put "Ir" in spanish IMHO that is not very clear, I prefer to use "Buscar" because that's the action that you want to do.

tannedincali comments on Dog Toys

interesting I googled it, but I've haven't seen one of those here Cali. What I buy for my novia's dog is a kind of bone that they chew and can be eaten, but the classic kong looks very tasty

tannedincali comments on Pasty Gringo or Tanned Gringo?

tannedincali comments on any indie rock bar in Cali?

Alterno, Blues brothers, El faro Alterno bar: they play some punk, ska, latin rock, alternative, etc . It's in front of the "Seguros sociales de la Uribe".

Blues brothers: there are live bands here and dance performances by hot girls. It's on the 6Ath street north.

El Faro video bar, is located in the south, on 66th near Pasoancho (13th). They play mostly 80's and 90's rock videos.

tannedincali comments on how much does a call cost from pereira ....

Just call using net2phone They charge about 0.05 US cents for calls to USA. If you have an account you can use it wherever you have a decent Internet connection, even at 128 mbps. But, if you don't you can go to any Internet cafe, there's one or two per neighborhood here in Cali, I guess it's the same there.

tannedincali comments on I need help!!!

What I frecuently do - I like to go to the malls on weekends with my girlfriend to eat something or drink a beer or coffee,or just watch people (girls)
- go to the movies
- play soccer with my friends on Sundays
- watch soccer
- party on Saturdays (not all, but when I can)
- less frecuently now, play winning eleven on the ps2 ( most colombians don't have last generation video game consoles yet).
- upload photos to flickr, and check other sites.
- and have sex ;)

tannedincali comments on Buying a computer and internet service in Cali?

If you want a brand computer... If you want a brand computer you can get a very decent laptop for about 1.700.000 pesos (US $800) or a very good desktop with that money at www.dell.com:

Desktop:
DimensionTM E520 Procesador Intel® Pentium® D 915 Dual core.512MB 80GB HD, etc. $1.699.000

Laptop:
Inspiron™ 1501 Procesador AMD Sempron 3500+ Mobile, Ing (KS35HL)512MB 60GB $1.449.000

All depends on your needs and your budget, but I would recommend you to buy a computer with Intel Dual core processor whether it's a laptop or desktop, or whatever brand. At dell you can choose the language of the system and add other items like a DVD burner, a better video card, etc., obviously that will increase the price.

The Inspiron™ 6400 ($2.250.000) for laptop seems like a very good deal to me . Hp has many shops across the city offering similar computers.

I would recommend a "clon" from la pasarela only if you're very geeky and like to fix your computer and stuff.

The Internet connection is another history. I think at centenario there are plenty of ISPs offering broad band connection. First check Emcali ADSL (http://autoservicio.emcali.net.co/homeadsl/) starting at about $90.000 for 128k and unlimited phone calls in one pack, it's pricey compared to bogota but since they have copper lines across almost all the city they have the broadest presence. Telecom also offers a similiar service. You can also check Wimax with Orbitel (https://www.orbitel.com.co/), I think they are offering 250K for $49.000 + iva, 500K for 69.500 + iva. Also many tv companies offer broadband services: vision satelite, cable union, etc.

You can check this forum to know experiences from different users and ISPs in Cali (spanish):

Suerte ;)
