Tammy comments on Denied entry because of NO Pages or Room Left for Stamps on Passport When I returned to Colombia Dec 2007 (Bogota El Dorado) DAS didn´t stamp an entry stamp. When I asked about it, he said they don´t do that any more since it is all now computerized. When I left in Sept. however, they did give me an exit stamp. To get into the Embassy in Bogota you need to tell them you are going to Social Security. Just make sure it is a day SS is open. So far it has always worked for me, then I go do what I want.

Tammy comments on Edorado Airport to Bus station??? Thanks everyone. I'm in Miami now and Avianca is being really nice (!) about trying to get me on a flight. I just keep checking and hope for the best. (I missed my flight in Oct. because I extended my travel plans and didn't call or email them. They aren't even going to charge me for this. There must be something wrong with this but I haven't figured it out yet) Looks like it will be the bus the same day and no overnight if they can't get me on a flight. I'm really willing to pay almost anything not to have to take that bus (I do take buses all over, it's just this particular trip I hate the most!). I'll get over it!

Tammy comments on Edorado Airport to Bus station??? OK- I really hate nıght busses. Can't sleep and really don't lıke not seeıng where I am about to crash. I usually fly, but have really screwed up my flıghts and trıp tımes, so unless there's a mirıcal I'll have to take the bus. (sorry- thıs keyboard ıs really weırd and spellıng ıs hard). I don,t know why I thought the bus statıon was way South and therefore thought I would need to take the metro. I can just take the taxı to the statıon. I,m goıng to Armenıa for the fırst leg and wıll stay the nıght there and go wıth frıends from thereç IF I can get to Armenıa by 11 -12 I may go the same day. If I get held up ın the aırport I,ll stay the nıghtç Thıs ıs holıday season and everythıng ıs booked solıd and you know how ımmıgratıon can be at tımes. Thanks for the quıck replıes.

Tammy comments on New Rules on EPS? supposedly you are suppose to be grandfathered in if you already have a plan. This came from Coomeva Prepagdado. The problem is only suppose to be if you are seeking insurance as a new patient. This was explained to me and another gringo friend who has been here 10 years with Coomeva. There is an alternative if you do not want to pay into a pension fund here. It is Indedpendent insurance for self employed people (very similar to what we have in the states.) This happens to be the way I have my ins. The name of the co I use is Forteleza, not sure if they are all over or not, but you should be able to find a company. No, I don´t work, but this is only avail. to self employed people. I told them I am a seamstress, and my premiums are about 72mil mo. My agent knows I do not work, and could care less, so don´t worry about providing paperwork and the ususal stuff. If you do this, pick a profession with low risk injury- no bomber pilots- or you´ll pay dearly for your premium. This has workers comp (their version) attached to it, so that is why you want to select a job low risk for injury. (Translator works well). Tammy

Tammy comments on Spanish in exchange for Italian??? MIRA If you live in Colombia, look for your local MIRA. They offer Italian and French as well as a ton of other classes. All very cheap (like 20 mil for a 3 month course.(here in Armenia anyway). The other option is SENA (which is free.

Tammy comments on Bargaining in Colombia I bargain everyplace except Exito or one of the large department stores. Drug stores especially. Yesterday I bought artificial sweetner at the Drug store. Price in Crystal was 12,000cop. AT the drug store it was 10,500. I gave him 10,000 , said thanks and left. You might not get much of a discount, but usually you get something. If not, go someplace else. I also only pay 2,000 for most of my local taxi rides (the mimimum fare here is 2,400). I simply ask the driver if he will take me to .... for 2 mil. I have only been refused once. (You do need to know the fair to where you are going. This obviously won´t work if you´re going on a 10 mil ride!). I also don´t pay the ¨Carga¨for the weekends, holidays, or early, late hours. I simply ask if he will take me to where I want to go without the extra charge. I haven´t done this in Cali so I don´t know how it would work there. I figure the worst is he says no, but I would then just ask the next driver. I don´t do this in the rain or 5 pm when you can hardly get a taxi. Great on Sundays and holidays when no one is taking Taxis. Sometimes I am going very short distances that only register 1,500 on the meter.

Tammy comments on English Bookstore Used books are the cheap answer Ask around where you can buy used books. I usually don´t pay more than 2mil, maybe 3. I just left BC but I can´t remember the streets. I know there are some withing walking distance of San Victorino, or look in the yellow pages and go from there.

Tammy comments on Unlimited calls from USA to cell phones in Colombia tel3advantage.com I've been using them for a couple of years. I think it's .073 cents to Armenia y Medillin, and something like .044 to Cali. I like it because you only get charged for the time you talk- no service charge for every call that can really eat the time up if you get the ans mach. or need to call back when using the cards. And even though I am female, I really don't want to be on the phone to anyone for 3+ hours.

Tammy comments on Cedula Extranjera and Divorce So I gather from these few comments this guy is going to loose his cedula? Can´t he get an atty and at least delay it for 2 years (is that how long it takes to get a permanent cedula?)? It must be tough to find out the person you love and trust is just looking for your $$ (as few as they may be). Doesn´t this guy have other options?

Tammy comments on NEW FRIENDS Kernow62 You know better than anyone else if you deserve to be called an "American" or not. Evidently not, so no problem.

Tammy comments on NEW FRIENDS So Sorry I'm not here very much, and the sense of humor escaped me. Especially if GIB is handsome!! That does allow a little leeway!
|
|
Tammy comments on NEW FRIENDS I must be missing part of her message The message I see only says "American" friends, it doesn't say anything about "Gringos" or American men. Is there some ego going on here? Every woman out there is not looking for the gringo, as some on this site perceive. You all could certainly be right, but I will always give someone the benefit of the doubt until I know otherwise.

Tammy comments on Easy to get married in San Andreas?? Oh my gosh! I really do know how to spell- I was just to excited there was a simpler way to solve my problems with documents!! Thanks you.

Tammy comments on NEW FRIENDS What am I missing here? Why is almost everyone so rude to her? Why not wait and see who she is. "American" is all of you above if you live in the US. Hopefully I don't have to start identiying myself as German, English, and Italian living in US!

Tammy comments on Marriage by proxy Thanks Baq I haven't heard of a "family" visa before. So the way I understand this, I need to get permission to live with my husband in Colo once we are married? Is this likely to be a problem? Does anyone have any experience with this? I searched the site for family visa, but nothing applying to this came up.
