TACTICAL comments on Shipping a Moped to Colombia?

Buy one here By the time you ship it, pay the import tax, which will be AT LEAST 40% OF THE of the scooter (figure 800-1000 USD) and assuming they don;t steal any parts off of it, well you get the picture.

You will be better off buying a new one once you get here.

Missing the point I think some are missing the point GIB is trying to make. I have seen posts by several different members attacked when their views are negative or cautious about a subject.

The travel by bus topic is a good example. Yes, a majority of the time you can travel by bus and won;t have a problem. HOWEVER, to say "It is safe" I think understates the situation. I travel by bus all the time within the city, but traveling from one major city to another, its AIR TRAVEL ONLY.

TACTICAL comments on Colombian Stock Market #2 worldwide performer last month

It will change Give it a little more time and the tide will turn. I agree with SW244, Colombia can;t afford a reputation of being "Expensive".

I think lots of people overlooked the reputation of drugs, FARC, kidnappings ect because it was CHEAP to be here, but throw EXPENSIVE into the mix and CHOW, I think people will start looking elsewhere

TACTICAL comments on Medellin gets dissed about shooting

National VS International Hollywood, yea I remember that incident but he was on a "National" flight and they don;t do near the amount of security checks vs the "International" flights. I think CNN was talking about the security for the international flights

TACTICAL comments on Medellin gets dissed about shooting

CNN INTERNATIONAL CNN said as this was unfolding live that airports in COLOMBIA were some of the "Toughest" in S. America using "Multible checkpoints" for screaning passengers and baggage.

One less idiot Hay, one less Idiot in the world to worry about. I know some of you will say he was mentally ill, well, he DIDN'T TAKE HIS MEDS. HIS CHOICE, no one elses.

TACTICAL comments on The United States of Colombia

No more Gringo's So does this mean there never really were any "Gringo's"? Have I been a Colombian all this time, just THINKING I was a gringo?

TACTICAL comments on Health Insurance in Colombia

Was wondering I was wondering about the 6 month thing myself. Seems like a very odd arrangement.

So you pay health insurance all year in Colombia when you are only here 6 months and premiums all year in America while you are their only six months? DOUBLE premiums?

TACTICAL comments on Health Insurance in Colombia

Changin the rules POCO, since you have had coverage for two years or more, did ya ever stop to think they might have changed the rules?

Similar to the marriage visa, a year ago you needed one, now its not required.

As far as Coomeva, that little green colored plastic card they give you as proof you have coverage, take a look, it has your name and CEDULA number on it.

I don;t make the rules, I am only providing the information COOMEVA told us and REQUIRED when we got our health insurance policy

TACTICAL comments on Health Insurance in Colombia

CORRECT Coomeva Insurance - NO CEDULA, NO INSURANCE.

YES, if your SPOUSE is Colombian he/she can place you on his/her plan if they already have a policy HOWEVER you still need a Cedula. If you are living here with your spouse you should have a Cedula.

TACTICAL comments on Harley Davidson motorcycles in Colombia

Agree with ones own death As in the states, more than 95% of the time, the accident is NOT the fault of the motorcycle rider but 99.9% of the time, the guy on the motorcycle looses.

Now take this fact and multiply the risk factor by about 10. Compare the conduct (observation of traffic laws) of the drivers in the states to that of colombia and I think you get the picture.

TACTICAL comments on Blackberry use in Colombia?

Expensive Blackberries are not grown here and are expensive to import, so they are not widly used in making fruit drinks. :-)

TACTICAL comments on do they check tax ret..

There is a reason Guys, not trying to start an argument but there IS A REASON they want "Tax returns". If they accepted "Assets" in lue of tax returns and stated income, then the govt paperwork would list it as an option or alternative (which it does not). So you can say it counts all day long but without the returns, you are screwed.

I understand what everyone is saying, that they are financially solvent, but the way the feds see it, your income and net worth SHOULD be listed on your income tax return in some form or another.

Personally, I wouldn;t be holding my breath if your tax returns don;t show the minimum income or you can;t produce the prior three years returns.

For the origional poster, if I understand you correctly, your wife is now illegally in the USA? If that is true, I would be talking to a GOOD immigration attorney. Doesn;t seem to matter if all your papers are in order, when they find out she is currently illegally in the USA, I think you are going to have some major problems.

Just food for thought.

TACTICAL comments on Open season on Pedestrians

Red, Yellow, Green A RED light only means SLOW DOWN as you go through the intersection, yellow means go normal speed and green means haul ass.

Sad but true, traffic laws here are non exhistant, I'm sure they look great on paper as far as the govt is concerned, but enforcement doesn;t exhist.

On the bright side, if ya do get hit and killed, die happy, knowing Colombian law places the driver of the car, truck or motorcycle at fault. Doesn;t mean the govt will do much, but at least you will die knowing it technically wasn;t your fault.

TACTICAL comments on Living expenses in Medellin

$150.00 for food ????? I guess you can live on 150.00 a month for food if you only eat once a day or enjoy eating mostly soup, no meat or good fruits.

OTHER ITEMS people usually forget to add too their budgets are things like medical insurance, daily cleaning items (paper towels, toilet paper ect) and personal items ie: shaving cream ($3.00 US per can), razors, soap, washing detergent, trash bags ect. These items ADD UP FAST so if you think you are going to run into Vivero and stock up for 30 days of food with you 150.00 think again.

A GOOD estimate for everything you will need for a month (food and supplies) is more like $300.00

TACTICAL comments on Hey trying to go to columbia this summer

Good Advice, something to think about BAQ, we have the same problem here in Southern California. In fact, a few years ago, it got so bad with Americans getting arrested in Mexico, the U.S. put up several warning signs with flashing lights trying to warn motorists headed into Mexico.

Along the same lines, I was returning from Colombia a little over two years ago and while I was having my bags checked at customs in Miami, at the inspection table next to me, there was a guy trying to talk his way out of a jam because they found some prescription medication that was evidently purchased in Colombia. I have no idea what happened to him but he kept saying “I didn’t know it was illegal”.

Keep posting, don’t let em get you down. hahahahaha

TACTICAL comments on Help! VISA help needed...

Well said Very well said Crazy4Cali.

I think the problems started when Sunset got some advice/opinions/thoughts that he didn;t like. Althought some of them had a sarcasric flavor to them, they none the less had lots of truth to them and from the way I read them, the other posters were actually TRYING TO HELP THE GUY.

But Sunset got pissed and added fuel to the fire by throwing insults and posting with an "I am better than you" attitude. So obviously, some took offense and fired back.

In my humble opinion, people on this board really desire to help others and obviously will give their opinions when doing so. When someone is so thin skinned that they can;t accept an opposing opinon or criticim, they would be better served to stay off the board.

One last thought. BAQ, if I ever piss ya off, just send me an IM, never want to get "surgically ripped apart" hahahha

TACTICAL comments on Help! VISA help needed...

Sunset Wow man, lots of hostility. I think the problem is you want to "Shoot the messenger". Yes, BAQ is sometimes BLUNT, from reading some of his other posts he seems to tell it like it is without any sugar coating. That being said, HE (and the other) ARE CORRECT, regardless of how they word it.

For someone who describes himself as an older person and a business man, you act quite the child, cussing people, using veiled threats, changing your story, fibbing, ect.

Maybe you do need some psychiatric counceling, and before you go off on me, I am NOT hanging out with hookers.

Let us know what your diagnostic codes turn out to be. Now my curiosity is peaked.

TACTICAL comments on Help! VISA help needed...

SUNSET, after reading all these posts, like it or not, BAQ, CRAZY4CALI & BOBBYB have some VERY VALID POINTS.

I think you should be listening to what they have to say. And I must admit, your initial post does give rise to "desperation".

As BAQ says, HERE'S YOUR SIGN

BAQ, that was just to funny !

TACTICAL comments on New Car Importation

WOW, this guy really thinks a "One of a kind car" won;t get stolen? GET REAL! From reading his posts, I seriously doubt he lives here in Colombia. He is TOTALLY CLUELESS about everything in Colombia other than wanting to spend money, especially about his new red car being stolen. Even a retard knows where that car will end up (as Toneloc24 stated), Bogota or Medillin being proudly driven by someone in "la Mafia".

OH, maybe no one told him about the corruption here and the guys in the Mafia "Own" many of the police.

It's pretty darn funny that the guy "Who has all the answers" can;t figure out how to get his pretty new red car here, but has the balls to log onto a forum such as this, asks for help, then insult everyone who is being honest with him and trying to give "Good advice".

DUDE, YOU SEEM TO HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS, SO SHUT THE HELL UP, QUITE INSULTING PEOPLE AND GO ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS !

Just my humble opinion

Here is one my father told me many years ago, "I cried when I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet"

TACTICAL comments on Confused

BRAVO BAQ !!! BRAVO BAQ, BRAVO, you are right on target. * Virginia Guy, take your time, if the love is genuine, it will last. Must agree with some of the other posts, there do seem to be some "Red Flags". That being said, assuming she DOES love you, don;t you think she might be a little desperate to get the paperwork through ASAP if her current situation is one of coming from a poor family, having a 3 yr old child, little or no money, no job and no perminant residence?

NONE of us can provide a GOOD evaluation since the only information we have is what you post, but from what you have said, I would say her situation is "Desperate", so from that standpoint, YOU need to decide if her love for you is REAL or rooted in a need for help.

GOOD LUCK, regardless of what you decide.

TACTICAL comments on ColombianoX No Longer with Us

Don;t post much I don;t post much however I do read most of the posts. I must agree, it seems that personal attacks are order of the day. When I joined this board, I was doing so to get information from others living here in Colombia, LEARN from their experiences, LEARN from their mistakes, and share with others the mistakes I unwittingly made since I moved here.

There will always be a difference of opinion when a sensative subject is but forward however in my humble opinion, this board should be about HELPING EACH OTHER, not insulting or attacking each other just because one finds themselves in conflict with anothers opinion.

For those who's only desire is to agitate, I think they should be ignored or booted off the site. PLEASE DON;T LET THE FEW spoil the great idea that started this board, HELPING EACH OTHER OUT.

TACTICAL comments on Salaries for Professionals in Bogota ?????

Have to agree I have to agree with BAQ.

You asked for HELP in this forum by asking questions about salaries in Bogota and these people seem to have been very nice to you, trying to give you honest answers. So why are you spitting in their faces and making fun of that fact that they are retired. You seem to be VERY CHILDISH.

If you're not a part of this travelicious experiment just yet, just sign up here. It's free & easy.
