tabla comments on DOES MY COLOMBIAN GIRLFRIEND NEED VISA FOR ECUADOR? Is Ecuador the only country in S America requiring DAS and YF?

tabla comments on DOES MY COLOMBIAN GIRLFRIEND NEED VISA FOR ECUADOR? In January I took my Colombian g/f to Peru and Bolivia. No visa was required, nor for Ecuador. However for Ecuador needed DAS certificate (no criminal record) and Yellow Fever vaccination, so we didn't go there.

tabla comments on Certificate of No Impediment for Uk citizen In Colombia some notarias will ask for a CNI and others not. Your first step has to be to talk to some notaries in the city where you intend to marry. I just got one in UK - it took 5 weeks and cost £30 plus cost and time of apostille and translation. My notaria does not require it. Got in case I had to use another notaria at the last minute. The FCO can give guidance but it is not possible to give precise requirements due to these variations between notaries. There is lots of info here if you use the search facility within the site. You can check the website of the Bogota Embassy to see if they issue CNI's.

tabla comments on help with airfares :( Tell your daughter how much it costs to fly on date x and date y. Then let her decide how many £ a missed class is worth. The key to this dilemma, funnily enough, is putting a monetary value on each missed class. This will be good lesson in business thinking, itself worth more than the odd missed class. It's easy to catch up on a class - just borrow the notes of a friend who's a great note-taker. Or three.

tabla comments on Peso/Pound Trends No one knows the future so it is best to keep your money in a mix of currencies. By all means buy more of any one when it is cheaper. Any strong move, like we have seen with the pound, is usually followed by a correction. Avoid acting in a panic. I heard the euro will drop next, because it's just as weak as the dollar/pound but has not fallen in the same way. It's very difficult to predict rates between weak currencies. Volatility you can predict, because no one knows the real value of one against the other. There is no doubt these currencies are being destroyed by governments right now. I notice the Argentinian peso is about the same level as 2 years ago. Does this mean Argentina is a cheaper place to go? Anybody know?

tabla comments on MY WIFE'S FAMILY I would like to make some suggestions. But first I have a question about Colombia. Clearly some families like to have a gringo as a cash cow or ATM (haha like that one). But is there also a culture that a family member who has a job should help support other family members? How far does that go 1) moneywise and 2) distancewise (ref relationship)? Because to the extent that such a culture exists, they are only treating the gringo like any family member with a good job (like a very good job).

tabla comments on The psychology of pbh friends I think it's time to introduce point two of this Psychology of PBH-Friendship Course. If you are a Type I friender, and you have few friends, you need to brush up your chat-up line. If your are a Type II friender, and you have a lot of friends, you must be very desirable

tabla comments on The psychology of pbh friends Well my first few times I waited to be asked, then I got the hang of it and asked a few myself. It took me a long time to see any point in having friends here, and I am still only a beginner. However, I can say that I am beginning to feel some warmth in my interactions on here, so I am hopeful that this will increase. I still relate to pbh as a whole more than to any individuals, who are only beginning to emerge as people to me. It certainly helps if people use their real photos. I hope I will be able to post my pic with my esposa after 12 Nov. No doubt everyone has a different view of the value of pbh friends and it would be interesting to hear different views or experiences.

tabla comments on The psychology of pbh friends Haha jimbo. Let's be friends! What I failed to explain (because I thought it would be obvious) is that these 2 types were not intended to be the only 2 possible types, but simply I am using these two (assuming they are common) for the purpose of the post. I am possibly the most logical person you will meet, but I probably do assume that my readers are too. Mistake. Plus of course I can make a mistake, like anyone. It's logical. Chao

tabla comments on A question about facial hair in Colombia Well his mustache was my inspiration... ...and maybe my downfall...
|
|
tabla comments on The psychology of pbh friends No dw maybe I need to clarify: The two types proposed are: 1) the type who asks people to be their friend 2) the type who waits till someone asks them, and then always accepts My proposition is that any two of Type (2) will never become pbh friends because neither of them will ever make the first move. My original post seems clear to me, but I hope this helps.

tabla comments on A question about facial hair in Colombia Copied from another thread: I grew a mustache. I wrote my novia asking if she liked mustaches. She didn't understand. Asked her a few more times. Never understood. Even sent her pics of men with mustaches, saying all these men have mustaches. Last time, she asked again what it meant. I said: too late, it's gone!

tabla comments on The psychology of pbh friends johann: How is Iowa? Getting cold? I described two types of pbh-er, so it is correct and not ambiguous to refer to the second one as the latter. I tend to write very clearly. To a fault, perhaps. Ever been to Vedic City?

So all my correos are in Spanish. How come you are learning Chinese? Now can someone please tell me what the following sentence means: "Sé que suena prejuicioso y, sin embargo, no es más que la simple valoración de una regla de la experiencia." English translation preferred. I don't speak Chinese.

tabla comments on A lot of people seem to have difficulty with "watch" "see" and "look at". Best to consider examples: watch television or a football match or a film (never "see television" nor "look at" television) watch me (while I do something) see a play or a film or a match (did you see him on television, did you see Friends last night?) did you see me? (means did you notice me or notice what I did?) look at that. look at an object Confused? Watch the dog (means see what he is going to do, watch him for a minute) See the dog (means notice that the dog is there) Look at the dog (means see what he is doing now) Maybe someone can explain these words in Spanish.

tabla comments on Can someone in Bogota please help me? What you suggest is a waste of time. Better to put the story online and make sure anyone googling her name finds it. I have seen a lot of articles warning about online dating which include the names of offending women. These articles are typically on top-rate matrimonial sites. The other side of the coin is: when meeting someone online always google their name possibly with the word scam. Here's a good example: Russian Women Blacklist http://www.girlsru.com/grgProfileListScam.asp Can't you see it in their eyes?

tabla comments on Requirements for the civil marriage of a Colombianita with a foreign man (or vice versa, of course) alSapo - how kind of you to ask! I am not one to cause too much jealosy, you know. Nor one to show off, especially before the big day. I will however let you into one secret - I am breaking all the rules so carefully laid out here on pbh by those wiser than me - and so you could say I am taking a big gamble - but I feel strongly that I am doing the right thing or at least I have no choice. So it will be an adventure with hopefully a happy ending. Anyway I am enjoying the ride. Maybe I will share after 12 nov. Especially if I receive a lot of support on this site. Thanks again for your interest.

tabla comments on English marrying in Colombia (not a total newbie question i hope) I notice there are agencies offering apostille services which means you send them your documents and they take them to FCO for same day legalising and return them to you. No doubt they could courier them to you in Colombia. Cost about £30 excluding courier. Just Google "legalise documents" and see, especially the Google ads at the top.

tabla comments on English marrying in Colombia (not a total newbie question i hope) bensark, OK the FCO will put your papers in an envelope with your Colombian address on it and pop it in the post. And take no further responsibilty. It's the Colombian end of the equation you should be worrying about. As I have said, search this site for postal services in Colombia, and you will quickly decide not to risk your papers in the Colombian mail. Get the FCO to mail the papers to a friend, and get your friend to send them to you by courier. What's better, paying £100 for success, or paying £6 for failure? And losing the £56 legalization fee? Seems a no brainer to me. Over and out, buddy.
|
|
tabla comments on English marrying in Colombia (not a total newbie question i hope) I would definitely discuss this with the FCO
