surf17683 comments on Wire Transfers to Colombia

I dont have a colombian bank account yet nor do i have a cedular. i am transferring the amount into someone else account. the name of the bank is conavi in bucaramanga. now the manager is saying that i need a letter from my job stating how much i make and that has to be apostille. although i've already sent them all my official documents stating my annual salary, they want a letter. Also they want a letter from my bank, which i already gave them, but the letter has to say how much i make as well and be apostille.. i dont think they have a clue how things work in the US,,, anyone can type up a letter but i produce official documents , but they wont accept that. i'll have my friend in colombia check on other banks. hopefully we can find one , thanks so far for the posts.

surf17683 comments on Bucaramanga Colombia

flights to bucaramanga you can fly from bogota to bucaramanga on either avianca or aero republica, they both have decent online web sites for info. from bogota to bucaramanga it costs about 100 dollars one way and takes about an hour. from the airport it costs about 20,000 pesos into the city. i believe to fly anyway from bucaramanga to say, santa marta, you connect in bogota. i've been in bucaramanga several times and have some friends there, its a pretty nice city, not a whole lot of tourist things to do.

surf17683 comments on Malpractice in Colombian

it happened in bucaramanga i'll post the name of the doctor as soon as i get it. they were running a promotion, so the price was very attractive at the time. also, is it true that you must pay the full amount before you can sue, she still owes the half...why pay the rest when then messed up? my friend told me you must do that in colombia, is it because its on credit? what do u recommend...should she pursue this or just forget about it?

transit visa check the us embassy web site in bogota, they got all that info and the last time i read it , it said you will need a visa to transit through the usa. doesnt matter if you are only staying in the airport. the visa is just as hard as trying to get a tourist visa. all the info is posted on the web site.

surf17683 comments on Flipping apartments in Colombia?

foreclosures in colombia Does anyone know if the process of flipping houses/apartments that are being foreclose by the banks in colombia about the same as the USA? From some of the views here, i'm getting a mix bag; cant make money flipping houses but you can make good money if you find the right locations. Can someone who has actually done this or has been flipping houses recommend this business or is it too risky and not worth it? I really want a business in colombia so i can live there with my future spouse; i do have a good cash reserve of around 40,000 dollars saved up, so what else is there to do to make money in colombia (besides buy drugs , hahah) ?

surf17683 comments on Cartagena: Is this apartment too expensive?

flipping house/apartments in colombia Jim, lots of good info. one simple question that i have is it possible to make a decent living in colombia with my future colombian wife flipping apartments? im looking at bucaramanga for starters and buying small inexpensive seller motivated apartments around 15,000- 20,000 dollars and then re-selling them? Would you recommend this as a decent business and is there money to be made, thanks

surf17683 comments on LEGAL ADVICE

divorce Hello,
thanks in advance for any advice you can give. I have been separted from my wife for 2 years and now finally we are getting a divorce - we live in miami, fl. I have a girlfriend in colombian and will get married to her soon after this. the problem is, if my wife and her lawyer really try to stick it to me financially and i just leave the country (usa) what would be my status as far as colombia goes, i know, sort of, what status would be for usa. Heres the problem, i am currently making about 95k per year and my wife would probaly get a good deal of that as alimony. if i left the usa and went to colombia and started my own business with my future colombian wife, and would not be able to continue to make my alimony checks to my ex-wife due to the fact i'll be making a lot less money, and the florida courts issued a order for me to pay - or else??? - what, if anything, would the government of colombia do, and would that affect my legal status in the country?

surf17683 comments on buying property in colombia

advice on buying property in colombia I've been reading these posts and it seems very complicated. what i want to do is hopefully simpler. i want to buy and flip houses/apartments in colombia. however, if i give my colombian fiance my money and deposit funds from my US retirements funds into her bank account - do any of these laws apply? if the whole business of flipping houses were under her name, a colombian citizen, would it makes things simpler as far as tax laws are concerned. also what would be the best way to bring aprx 30,000 dolares from the states into her account, thanks for any advice....

surf17683 comments on Starting a business in Colombia

real estate business in bucaramanga This is my first post. I've been to colombia many times, working for the government and now i'm considering retiring from government work and start my own business, in real estate, in colombia. i have a girlfriend who lives in bucaramanga and been there several times myself. i have been told that bringing gringo dollars down out of retirement funds, say somewhere between 30,000 - 40,000 dolars and using that money to buy and sell apartments with cash - would be an great way to make a living and a good one, too. With cash in hand, and my future spouse guidance, it seems possible to do fairly well in colombia. Has anyone else considered doing this or know of anyone in this business. i've also talked to real estate poeple in bogota and at the embassy who are making money flipping properties down there. i figured bucaramanga would be a good place to starta as there is less american competition and its also cheaper to buy apartment, two-three bedroom apartments can go for around 20,000 cash, and then re-sell them for several thousand dollars more. Any thoughts?????? thanks
