Cypress district of Manizales? Flat in Cali? Guarantors?

Hi again everyone, I have found an apartment in the Cypress district of Manizales for my little visits there from time to time, and I hope I have picked a good location. Please tell me if anyone is familiar with this area and of any good or bad things I should pay attention to. Also I am looking for an inexspensive long term (6 month or more) rental in a safe part of Cali, does anyone have, or know of, a decent flat for a good price? The gringo and tourist rates on the internet are way too high. ...

Manizales?

Hello again everyone. I am planning my trip now and will be living in either Cartagena or Barranquilla, but I am told that Manizales is very nice to visit. I have never been there so could anyone tell me what they think of Manizales and the area? Keeping in mind I am an Italian Girngo - jajajaja

Florida phone service...

I have seen people here mention florida phone numbers and a few of my friends seem to use them also. How is this done and what service(s) are used to establish this US number for use in Colombia? Thanks as always for any help. ...

Cartagena or Barranquilla?

Moving this fall and trying to decide which is the better place, Cartagena or Barranquilla. Would love to hear from locals and people who have spent serious time in these cities. I will be living in Colombia for a few years, maybe permanent, and want to include things like food, safety (keeing in mind my gringo-ness jajajajaja), nightlife, women, jobs, vista, playa, and cost of living in the decision. All appropriate comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated ...

Cart. or Medellin? Apartments...

Can anyone hook me up with local sites for getting long-term apartment rentals in these two cities? I am moving in August and want to determine the cost of living in each city before I go so I can make my arrangements. I believe 700,000pesos is normal, and some with administration costs of another 100,000pesos. I prefer Cart. because of the playa, but I really enjoy Medellin also - all help is appreciated!

Is Bogata safe?

OK, first I have been to Columbia quite a few times but am now moving there. I am considering Bogata. Without getting into politics or other things... what is the safety REALLY like? I live in Washington D.C. and there are places here I can be killed for just being white (not a gringo or not). Is it any different than downtown L.A., Chicago, NY, or Washington D.C.??? I would like to know what to watch for in the local climate and what precautions to take. I figure it like this: I have traveled t ...

Columbian jobs, etc...

Hello all, I am new to this forum but need good advice. I am moving to Columbia to live and will be searching for work, etc. I have enough money to carry me for 8 or 9 years (just in case) but am looking to teach advanced English or find technical work. I am told Bogata will be my best bet for this - is this correct? Currently I hold a great deal of management experience and several degrees (computer science, business management, and engineering). Although my normal trade is the money end of lar ...
