strata2woman comments on TV in luggage to Colombia

Hi mode, there's in bagagge embargo on flights to Colombia from the states [any airline] up till January 10th. You are limited to only your normal 50lbs max and suitcase must be 62" around [total sum of width, height and depth], no boxes of any kind are allowed. I will not recommend at anytime to bring the LCD on your suitcase. I am using CC Logostics [a recomendation of a PBH member] to ship all my heavy stuff to Barranquilla. If you ship your heavy stuff as unaccompanied baggage, the cost per pound is less than taking oversized baggage and extra weight in the plane, I did this last February and I paid a pretty penny. [you have up to 3 months from your trip to send stuff as unaccompanied baggage]. I shipped 400 lbs [LCD TV, microwave, iMAC 24"computer and other personal stuff] for less than $700.00. from the West Coast to Barranquilla. Of course, I will know much better, how everything got there and what I paid to customs once I pick up. I will post then on my results.

Hyvää Joulua Desi to you and yours! Will be missing a White Christmas this year, it's going to be my first Christmas in Barranquilla in a long, long time and I'm really looking forward to it. Esko is coming from Finland to spend it with Hanna and the grandchildren, I'm glad. The last time I went to Findland? so long ago, 20 years or so, when we were living in Rome. I hope you can make it back this summer, and get to see each other. Take care.

Dios me ampare y me socorra.

strata2woman comments on Barranquillan Bus Route Compilation

This a super idea! Not only for one's personal use, but to share with others. I do take the bus quite a lot when I'm in Barranquilla, I prefer it as a mode of local transportation. I'll be in Barranquilla next week, let's work together in this project, after the holidays though. I'm also interested in starting a "no charge" English classes to low income kids, I'll be needing volunteers.

Rianse! la vida es muy corta. Don't take everything too serious.

strata2woman comments on Avianca Fare Sale!!!!!!!!

The $192.00 fare is: MIA/BAQ/MIA, however, here's the trick, only available if you leave on February 10th. [Special promo for Carnaval]. so gather your wares, and get going! If you have AVIANCA PLUS miles and you want to tranfer them to a husband, wife, daughter or son - you only have until tomorrow to do it [30/11/07] otherwise, forget it. I'm so glad we can now choose more airlines to flight to Colombia from the USA. Avianca is a rip off.

strata2woman comments on Apartments in Barranquilla

No, No, que Prado ni que carajo! Esos barrios estan mas perrateao que el boliche. Ningun currambero[a] worth his/her salt from the great metropolis sureña barranquillera, from la Avenida 13 de Junio y la calle Murillo hacia Soledad, would like to be caught codeandoze con la alta suciedad. ¿Where is our corroncho pride?

strata2woman comments on Apartments in Barranquilla

Agencia Arena, Agencia Financar, Arriendos Cepeda. These three are agencies, just like the ones in the states. I'll be in Curramba around the 15th of next month till Carnaval, I'll check for you with some of my contacts.

strata2woman comments on Colombia as seen through Injun eyes

He mode, I really try hard to stay out of this fracass, ain't my fight. Like this good ole currambera say "never speak evil of a fellow costeño", I will not do it, but ya deja the pajarilla y cojela suave con las vulgaridades. Remember that whether is South Curramba or North Curramba few things are free, except amistad y familia.

strata2woman comments on A true Colombian!!!

Bien dicho monpi! I respect and admire your love for my homeland. It doesn't matter if you were born in Colombia or not, what matters to me is how you feel about her. True Colombian, Pure Colombian, 100% Colombia, who cares, it's meaningless. It is a statement which presumes nothing of substance which can be agreed or disagreed with. The problem with people that debate on the subject is not so much that they believe what it is they do, but that they are so damn dogmatic about what a "Pure 100% Colombian" is and is not. Being Colombian is a state of mind, it is wanting what's best for her, to criticize her when criticism is needed, to use one's resources [money, creativity, skills] in helping her to forge ahead, to respect and not abuse others, to allow for difference of opinions, and to welcome with open arms those that come to her with a desire to contribute to her glory. Mother Colombia is big enough to love her born children as well as the adopted ones.

Hi Rob, It's cool, I just didn't want to be thought of as a"snob". Do you remember Guaymas? still there, but new owners, and the food doesn't taste as good as before. I'll be heading back to Colombia soon. Did you get your flat leased? Take care.

slguy, I second that!

strata2woman comments on 100% Colombian huh?

I only wear white pants for a velorio, I hate white pants. I can't wear hoops, chandeliers or any other type of earrings. My earlobes are pierced, 3/4" plugs or tunnels is what I can wear. I only wear stilettos or flats, I dislike platforms. I enjoy a good vallenato as much as I enjoy Billie Holiday and the Blues, I can dance a killer mapale or do the swing, and I can do it without having to question my own colombianismo. I am me, A Colombia Woman, as different as el terreno de mi tierra.

strata2woman comments on RACISM IN COLOMBIA, THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Elmo you did it again! con tu mamadera de gallo you got all these young things confused. Racism, churumbelas, gringos, cachacas, indios, and any other pajarilla that you can think of. These poor kids don't know a "triple excelente" mamador de gallo, even if it hits them in the face. There is nothing better than a good dosis of buena mierda that can get people's juices flowing, Do you see what you did?. As a good costeña [echale pa lante hasta que el cuerpo aguante.] Y deja que te sigan la corriente.

strata2woman comments on LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA [Las Vegas premiere]

If you live in Vegas, CineVegas is recruiting volunteers to assist with the Las Vegas premiere of Love in Time of Cholera. They need help with theatres, check-in, hosting, bag stuffing, etc. If you are interested and available to work the evening of November 6th, please email your resume and festival and guest services experience to cvjobs at cinevegas.com. I volunteered a few years back, when we were living in Vegas for a while. I had volunteered before for the Black and White Ball in Frisco. They both are worthy events that benefit community projects. So if you can spare one evening do it!

strata2woman comments on flying to Sincelejo from Barranquilla

No to alarm anyone, unless you are a female, but in Downtown Sincelejo during the last month some "crazy" MF is inyecting women with some unknown substance, at the moment no one has been arrested. The victims have been tested for HIV and other contagious diseases, no results are available as of yet. If you are a female traveling in Sincelejo, please be aware of your surroundings.

strata2woman comments on Teaching in Bogota.

In our return home from Colombia and in our way to see our brand new grandson, we made our usual stop in Sin City for some Vegas fun, and Lol and Behold what do I see? Old gringo farts with their trophy chicks "Asian Girlies". I asked my old gringo husband [38 year marriage] what's up with that? and he answered the internet my dear the internet, Viagra and Flomax! His take! The internet, the easiness and the low cost of flying from continent to continent it is making easier for people of different cultures to hook up. Language and social barriers are no so great as once were, and people from different parts of the world do get together and have a great life. My take!

strata2woman comments on MEDELLIN VIOLENCE HITS HOME!!!!

Please Colombiche don't be so melodramatic, It's not about class war. It's about not rushing to soon to judgment and about stereotypes.

strata2woman comments on MEDELLIN VIOLENCE HITS HOME!!!!

Oh girl, Colombiche you need to wake up and smell the coffee! "Rich Gringo" is just a palabra compuesta. Perhaps the gringos that throw their dolaretes around you are referring to, are the ones you probably know. However, I am not here to defend the gringos, that, they can do themselves. My answer to your post was and is, the underlying inuendo: Some gringo girlfriend is trying to fleece him, and she wants his money, [your Western Union post]. Yes, Con Artists are universal and are from any social status, however, it looks like because she is a poor girl, her mugging is suspected. If she has been a well to do girl, she probably won't be taking buses and perhaps this could have been avoided, but she's not and buses are our form of transportation. - I was shopping not too long ago at the Vivero in Buena Vista [B/quilla] and it was past 8pm and no taxi wanted to take me to my neck of the wood, so I had to take the bus loaded with stuff and take the long ride home. Was I probably more likely to be mugged, than if a taxi has taken me home? yes! Poor women are limited to where they shop or where they hang out, violence is more prevalent in poor neighborhoods, pero aun asi, most low income women are decent human beigns and no con artists. I take it VERY PERSONAL when anyone throws inuendos without hard core facts, only based on stereotypes.

strata2woman comments on MEDELLIN VIOLENCE HITS HOME!!!!

He Rob, I'm glad we cleared that up. Being from a lower-stratum doesn't make women living in these areas any more or any less honorable, than those from a higher stratum.

strata2woman comments on MEDELLIN VIOLENCE HITS HOME!!!!

He Rob and Colombiche - So, If you live or are from a lower stratum, are you automatically a suspect in trying to rip off your "rich gringo" boyfriend? Only the girlies form higher strata are to be trusted if I follow your guys' logic. Gringos Beware of poor girls! They will take advantage of your pocketbook.

strata2woman comments on Import Export Business

Yes, there is a Free Zone in Barranquilla. La Zona Franca. Here's your link: http://www.colombiaexport.com/zonafbaq/zonafbaq.htm [in English] You will need to register as a Persona Juridica with the Barranquilla Chamber of Commerce. Be prepared for a long paper hassle. We in Barranquilla want and need more enviromental friendly busines and more employment. Good luck in your endeavour.

strata2woman comments on Colombia - Racism or Caste System?

No, my friend, the USA is not the scapegoat and no, the gringos are no the evil ones, your words not mine. Everything I learnt towards fairness, equality and social justice I learnt in the USA. I cannot let you pin that on me. However, you sir, have right from the beginning try to frame the issue of poverty on race. That's your bag nor mine.
