"Can someone post what happens to the money you invested in a home in Colombia, and you are not a Colombian citizen, and need to sell it and want to go back to your country? Can you get your money out of the country?"

The most important aspect to the process in Colombia is registering the investment with the Bank of the Republic. As long as you do this, when you wish to remove your money from the country, you file another form connecting the money to the original investment. That allows you to transfer the related money out of the country.

Hey strata, I do remember Guaymas, with the windowed deck. But being a Veg, it was not high on my list.

Thai House is my idea of a treat! Mi Pueblo has an amazing, super-sized chile relleno burrito, called Super Relleno. I guarantee you will barely finish it. You may need to share it! Tommy's Salsa also makes great burritos. Picante makes a delicious summer squash burrito. Road Runner makes a Teriyaki Tofu burrito. Can you tell I like Mexican food?

Another outstanding place is Bagel Street Cafe. They make the freshest sandwiches. Ask for the Dutch Crunch Roll. They perfected it. If you want to try something out of the ordinary, order a sandwich at ordinary sounding Coffee and Sandwiches. They serve strong smelling, French Vietnamese sandwiches.

Now I'm really missing all that well-prepared food and the amazing variety! Around here people get excited about fast food burger joints!

Thanks for the Sabanilla tip, Strata. In fact, I think I MAY know it: Jorge, a friend of Nelly who is taxista, took me one day to the nearby beaches... Is the castillo red in colour?

If so, the beach looked superb and, indeed, very clean. But did you actually swim in the sea? I'm actually more concerned with all the rubbish rejected by the rio Magdalena which eventually finds its way back in the surrounding sea.

On this point, I seem to have heard that there were projecting to build some kind of "super protection", like a giant wall/pier in the sea, just to protect theses marvelous beaches from the continual pollution from the Magdalena. Being Barranquillera, do you know more about this project?

Better to have tried and failed than having regrets all your life about what you MIGHT have missed

nina....i can see you're well travelled.....what exactly is your plan to rid colombia of poverty. i've lived there 20 years now and have friends from casa narino to the streets and with all due respect, i haven't found folks in the upper strata do much for the folks below....much less have plans.

right now we're in florida wth our youngest in private school--we don't want her studying in colombia--when she's off to university, georgetown, we'll return home to medallo (envigado; finca in llano grande) but i have to confess. after years of very fine friendships with colombians...to hear one say, who's obviously or the upper strata, say they want to rid colombia of poverty...well, i gotta hear this.

the recent mayor of medallo, fajardo, is one good hearted man...not many like him.

do, dear, tell me all this, please
