I just got one for Labor Day weekend on Spirit Air for $239 USD. Not including 10 bucks per checked bag. Sale ends tomorrow.

STEVENYCER comments on Searching for a song name and title.

While I really like that song (as I do Alex Gaudino's version), it's not the one that I have in mind. The one I'm thinking of has no vocals, and more electronic/technoish but uses an actual merengue sample as a hook.

Tennis is an excellent store for relatively inexpensive domestic clothing. Think of it as a Colombian Gap/American Eagle.

STEVENYCER comments on Bomb in Cali. (again)

I never travel alone... ...and for this trip I'm going with 2 other male friends and looking to enjoy our time there.

Is Juanchito and Cali Nightlife safe? Reply with your thoughts...

STEVENYCER comments on Bomb in Cali. (again)

Thanks for the input... ...I wasn't worried at all when I visited last year, And there were elections going on as well (ley seca). I just wanna make sure nothing goes wrong, as my main reason for traveling there is to party and have a good time. I simply take the normal precautions (no jewelry, no english, no dar papaya). I definitely will not go to Siloe, Aguasblancas, or Marroquines, I know better than that. My only concern really is heading out to Juanchito regularly.

STEVENYCER comments on Bomb in Cali. (again)

Based on developing events, I need some reassurances So I went to Cali for two weeks last year and about to go back for 3 weeks next month, but now I'm a little nervous. These recent bombings have me a little concerned about my well being in Cali.

I blend in very well and speak Colombian spanish fluently, however I go out partying every single night I am in town. For those of you living in Cali, what concerns should I have and what recommendations can you give so I come back home in one piece? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Propaganda!!! And I'm not talking advertisements.... You really need to take the good with the bad and heed the common sense advice you should follow in any large American city. There are parts of Miami I would not want to be on the streets after dark, and the same goes for even the safest cities in Colombia. Granted that while I am a US citizen, I look Colombian and always went out with my local friend.

Last year, I spent over two weeks in Cali with a few days in Pereira. Believe it or not, the closest call me and my friends had was one late night in Downtown Pereira, and even then it was because we were being careless with the company we were keeping that night.

Having said that, we went out nearly every single night in Cali. We were pulled over almost daily by the police doing random searches for weapons and drugs. The first time that happened i was pretty freaked out, but subsequently felt reassured that police were making an effort to protect citizens and tourists.

DO NOT TAKE MINE OR ANYONE ELSES WORD FOR IT!

Make sound judgement calls based on who you spend time with, make sure you are not alone, and the odds will be better that you will have a wonderful time in Cali, or anywhere else for that matter.

He dicho.

Cali Airfares It all makes sense now, as this has got to be the reason fares are so much higher this year than last. Round trip Orlando Panama Cali on COPA (Subsidiary of Continental) was $455 USD in March 2006. So far for May/June 2007, I can't get below $680 USD in said cattle class. The rest of the difference is likely due to it being peak high season. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

STEVENYCER comments on Election Time... Everything Closed?

Just got some additional bad news... http://www.presidencia.gov.co/sne/2006/marzo/03/19032006.htm

Bummer. I was hoping to get at least that Friday in.

STEVENYCER comments on Election Time... Everything Closed?

Let's iron down these "ley seca" dates: For the first time in 14 years, I will be going to Cali and to Pereira starting Friday, March 10th til Sunday March 26th. Since I am single and going strictly for pleasure and visiting family and friends, this ley seca revelation during my first weekend there really has me in low spirits (pun intended). However, upon reviewing some info in regards to the electoral process at the following link reads as follows:

http://www.colombia.com/especiales/elecciones_2006/calendario.asp

Am I correct in assuming that ley seca begins Saturday at sunset (6pm)and ends Monday at sunrise (6am)? Also, is this a nationally observed blue law or is it specific to certain municipalities? What do you think?

This is the closest I've come to finding specific information on The EXACT start and end times for ley seca. Since I am going on vacation and spending THAT weekend in Cali, I need to scrutinize the exact times and dates. This way I know when liquor will be served, purchased, and or publicly consumed without fear of legal reprisal. Hopefully this info can be of use to anyone else out there travelling during this time, and if anyone else can add any additional thoughts, comments, or recommendations on this specific topic, please let me know.

By the way, since this is my first post, I just wanted to thank all for welcoming me into this great discussion site.
