Posted on Tue, May. 13, 2008Digg del.icio.us AIM reprint print email BY TYLER BRIDGES tbridges at MiamiHerald.com In a surprise move, the Colombian government early Tuesday morning extradited 14 notorious paramilitary warlords to the United States where they are wanted on cocaine-trafficking charges. Interior Ministry Carlos Holguín said the paramilitary leaders were taken from their cells shortly after midnight and, after a medical exam, were put on planes bound for Miami, New York and Wa ...
given recent events in my personal life, it seems to me that w/ respect to relationships, there are three fairly distinct groups.... 1. single. either for lack of options, or stubbornly clinging to the dream of findiing at least semi-perfection in a relationship. 2. attached, but not thrilled about it. 3. attached and happy. i'd be interested in knowing others folks' views in percentages of each. 20/30/50? 40/30/30? etc...especially in gringo/colombian relationships, but in general, ...
maybe i'm very slow...i just discovered this gal from toronto. ...
i have a friend who needs to sell bulk diamonds -VS, 1/4 carat and smaller, 400 carat minimum, us$275/carat. great deal for investor and/or jewelry manufacturer, it seems.
the bike import threads were semi-tiimely for me, it seems. for years i've wanted to build a Cobra kit car. years ago, in my racing days, i picked up a fresh supercharged cleveland 351 and put it away for "some day...". a few weeks ago, i stole a kit in an estate situation - still in the shipping crate, with 2006 manufacture date. complete kit, minus engine, tranny, wiring harness. i hope to god this year is the year i put the States in my wake - and i think it'll take a year for m ...
sometimes i really miss those rose-colored glasses i used to own...
i imagine you're awful busy, but you've opened, right? what're the chances of a short fototour when time allows? i'm dying to see casa pod, completed!
i stole this from another thread. how about translating for me? wtf does it mean? "At the same age, growing up in the chilly climes of the Fife town of Kirkcaldy on the Firth of Forth" sounds like some Fish Called Wanda bs to me. ;;) ...
i'm glad to see you around again! i have a coffee question, please? someone told me the other day about a VERY expensive coffee from somewhere around the indian ocean. the story was, some sort of marsupial eats the coffee beans, passes them basically undigested, at which point they're "harvested" by the natives.supposedly the animals gastric juices flavor the beans mildly. ( i'd be more worried about "other" flavoring, but that's the tale i heard...) any truth to this, or was my wooden le ...
rj? kat? wtf? i'm thinking about a visit to villavicencia soon - and you two should be ashamed! ;) little help, please?
...i pondered many of the world's problems while reviewing my foto archives. global warming, my ass. the world's temperature is rising for one very simple reason. Al Gore, listen up. more colombianas on the planet. ;) ...
I know, I know...they suck. But they usually add downward price pressure... http://southflorida.bizjournals.com/southflorida/stories/2008/04/14/daily11.html?jst=b_ln_hl
the pirate has REALLY missed the scurvy dogs and mermaids here! he's got a new vessel in his sights and is planning a short iinvasion (by air) of Colombia for May... AVAST!
But it's a sincere question. What is it about the Colombian psyche that breeds this penchant for/acceptance of violence? Why, for more than 50 years, has violence been such a major part of Colombian life? The leftists will respond 'well, if the wealth were more evenly distributed..". The rightests "the leftist rebels necessitate adequate responses". Does anyone truly believe that all this violence is really the result of politcal inadequacies? 50 years of various kinds of violence, seemingly ...
We read SO many threads here, talking terrible trash about colombian women, how they'll take advantge, etc. It had me worried, intially. Crap. They're pikers compared to the demands some of my exes from the US have made on my wallet. Plus- although they aren't as loud about it as the guys who let a colombiana screw them over- there's a fair number of guys on this board who are pretty friggin' happy with their colombian wives. I feel better for having spent some time thinking about t ...
several of us have asked very politely for you to stop your political trolling in all caps- and you hide behind silly responses like "it's a free country". No one disputes that you are entitled to your opinion- but this site doesn't belong to you. I'm guessing peter never intended it to be used for the furtherence of huskie's political views, either. especially not in all caps, all the time. please stop? have a little consideration for the rest of us? ...
Looks like to me you cranked her up again a little too quick. There's an awful lot of cranky people hangin' out here....
without fotos, we think you just napped for a week or two. ;)
But I fault all the PBH drama lately on Elmo's absence. He has a way of keeping us all on topic, if you get my drift....;) I'll trade meltdowns/goodbyes/stalking,etc. for a yet another in the endless train of chucha threads any day. ...
BY SIBYLLA BRODZINSKY Special to The Miami Herald BOGOTA -- It took more than six years for the killers of union activist Luis Manuel Anaya to be brought to trial. Were it not for the U.S. and Colombian governments' quest to adopt a free-trade agreement, they might never have. Anaya was one of the estimated 700 union members murdered in Colombia since 2001, making it the world's most dangerous place for labor activists. About 98 percent of the killings remain unsolved, mired in a labyrint ...
BOGOTA -- Venezuelan-made ammunition is regularly reaching Colombia's FARC and ELN guerrillas, Colombian military intelligence officers have told El Nuevo Herald. One of the officers said the evidence available did not indicate whether the ammunition reaching the rebels is ``a consequence of the growing corruption that exists in the Venezuelan military and police forces, or the result of a policy by President Hugo Chávez.'' The officers said their evidence came from inspections of ammunit ...
I was waiting to post this until the situation gelled more, but time grows short for everyone else to make plans, so I'll let you guys (specifically RJ and Morph) know now what the deal is. When I moved Querencia to the boatyard for her electronic, etc upgrading in prep for heading south, I got a weird call from the yard owner. Seems some guy was inquiring about buying her, and wanted to talk to me. "I thought "yea right - some bozo w/ dreams of buying her for $2.43". Still am not certain ...
I've never thought of myself as old, but some of the posts here lately have me thinking - did I EVER think 4 months is a long time? On yet another of the hopelessly naive gringo-in-love-with-online/met briefly-colombianas post, a guy says he believes these relationships can last. After all, he spent two months with a rola while he was in bogota, and they have talked every day for the two months since he returned. wtf? A whopping four months is teaching us what, exactly? Another poster here ...
I had an epiphany this morning. Despite the glaringly obvious fact that I should have realized this years ago, once I recovered from the embarrassment of this realization, I felt better. There's a very fine line sometimes between troll and idiot. ...
Or has PBH gotten VERY weird in the last month or so? Grown men, living with their ex, complaining about not being able to bang a girl young enough to be their daughter - because dad is home all day. Newbie trolls rampant. Debates about the real sex of posters. Long time posters announcing they're on the verge of violent death. Elmo making noises about disappearing soon. ;) Has it been the full moon for the entire month, or just holiday madness? Am I the only one beginning to t ...
I'm almost to Liverpool, and she's vanished!

I give you the african naked mole-rat

In another thread, some folks are talkin' about joining the crew of the good ship Querencia for her (probable) February jaunt south from Florida to Cartagena. She's a 43' Gulfstar ketch. Two sleeping cabins(each with space for two), two heads, main salon, and galley. (2-4 more can sleep in the main salon, as needed). GPS, 24 mile radar, SSB radio (email available at sea!), fishfinder, blah blah blah. Long story short- she's very seaworthy. Rules: 1. all crew must stand watches - likely ...
My potential future home, Bolivia, is apparently in turmoil now, at least in Sucre, due to Evo's constitutional assembly to rewrite it. Clashes in Sucre, where the assembly met- largely boycotted by the opposition - a cop got "lynched", police stations torched, and the police have abandoned the streets. Apparently outside of La Paz, Evo's power base, he is NOT beloved. :-) Are we gonna see another in Bolivia's long string of presidents not completing their terms of office? more importa ...
I just read an article in the Miami Herald that claims that polls, for what they're worth, show that "no" voters lead "yes" voters by more than ten points in the upcoming constitutional referendum in Venezuela. But that a significant number of these "no" votes will conceivably boycott the voting, with the rationale that Chavez will rig the vote, and their votes would only legitimize the referendum. Same thing they did in the last election, thereby handing El Payaso a resounding victory. If ...
I would LOVE to see the Bolivia board take off. I'm seriously considering moving to Santa Cruz. Think Bolivia is too much off the beaten path? Or does a board like this Bolivia thing just take time to draw a crowd? ...
Chávez's radical push spurs military dissent There are signs of increasing unrest throughout Venezuela as President Hugo Chávez pushes his 'Bolivarian revolution' further left. as reported by the Miami Herald today.... http://www.miamiherald.com/top_stories/story/312186.html ...
Another thread talking about Pod's pal's hottie got me to thinking. Does anyone else have sometimes stupid little things they notice about the opposite sex that sends good signals? Pod's hottie guest spends the day washing wondows in the hotel. As I said in that thread, she's a keeper. I have a sailor friend who always inspects a gal's toenails first. His theory is, if her toenails are manicured to perfection, perfect polish, no cracks - she's too high maintenance. I've been seeing a bo ...
I'm thinking about beginning production of a product I have in Colombia, for South American distribution. I need two vendors, basically. A plastics injection molding company (for hard plastics, not bottle types) and a company that produces 12V lighting- preferably a company that is similar to ones who produce those little yellow lights on trucks/trailers. Anyone got any leads for me? Thanks in advance. ...
This is the only place I could figure to post this question on the forum - please feel free to send me somewhere else, if there's a better place....;) I am thinking about setting up manufacturing in Colombia of an electrical product, but to be distributed throughout South America- specifically, initially Colombia, Peru, possibly Bolivia, and Argentina. My problem now is- all the free trade agreements in place (mercosur, etc.) are confusing as hell. Does anyone know of a site where they hav ...
Having done a TON of reading about various visas, both US an CO - it occurs to me that my situation is a little outside the norm.
Later this year, I'll marry my lady from BAQ, in San Andres. Then the decisions really begin...
I have young sons here in Florida, and cannot imagine a month without seeing them. But I really prefer to live in Colombia. So, the plan is, spend three weeks per month in BAQ, then to Florida for 7-10 days family time with my sons.
