slguy comments on Blame It On the Genes

des, I cannot express the depths of my gratitude for posting this science. I now have backup to the "bruja" defense! ;) Thanks! jajajajajjaa

slguy comments on Carter supports free trade pact with Colombia

I'm from the federal government, and I'm here to help you.....

slguy comments on update of gustav...

Hurricanes, schmurricanes. Much ado about nothing. ;)

I agree w/ RJ- after his absence, he cooled his jets a little w/ the bombast, and I enjoyed reading most of his posts. I'm not so sure how truly informative about Colombia he was, given he LOVES to spout "facts" about Colombia, never having left Bogota, to my knowledge. Unless someone called him on it, he was given to sounding like he had firsthand knowledge, which often he did not. Often he quoted statistics without crediting the sources, implying they were firsthand knowledge. I would have appreciated him more, had he credited sources, so we could make better judgments about the stats. Everyone that has met him in person says what a gentleman he is....I can't help wondering why he feels compelled to be so damned obnoxious online....sometimes.

slguy comments on Just what did the Fench do?

"And remember Ingrid is a politician but first she is a mother an as a mother her kids are her main priority right now" Maybe she would have done well to think about her (then very young) kids before she ignored everyone's advice and assumed her divinity would prevent FARC from taking her silly ass to the jungle....

slguy comments on Ingrid Betancourt - WHY?

It's one thing to stand up to terrorists. It's another one altogether to ignore EVERY bit of well-thought advice, and stupidly put yourself in harm's way, for want of anything except belief in one's own divinity. As was mentioned earlier- how many lives were lost by the military due to this idiotic decision? How many potential military operations were not accomplished, for fear of Ingrid's life? Frankly, I hope she stays in France and keeps her big yap shut. The French deserve her. ;)

slguy comments on Gay/Lesbian Marriage (Legal) in the USA

I'm ok with it, Plato. as long as both the chicks are hot. ;) Don't wanna share a house with a gay couple, under any circumstances....but I've got better things to worry about, frankly. They can do as they please- from a distance. jajajajaja

slguy comments on

"shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ;))) BTW Billyb i still got your............................if one day you want it back" Dammit. I come back, only to turn green with envy? ;) Shoulda stayed in the Bahamas. jajajajajajajaj

slguy comments on NOW TO SLGUY.....

She floats, she sails, she pretty much does what I ask her. I'm a happy lad. The goal is, have her ready to head for Colombia after the hurricane season passes. Barring any catastrophes, oughta be easy. Everyone doing OK?

slguy comments on Gay/Lesbian Marriage (Legal) in the USA

In another thread, I admitted to a little Bahamian getaway, Douglas. Unplanned, but a blast. Thanks for asking....

slguy comments on Gay/Lesbian Marriage (Legal) in the USA

While I have much respect for Plato's and Kalder's POVs- I can't help asking myself... Why should hetero couples be the only ones who have to suffer thru marriage? Why shouldn't they get screwed in court like the rest of us, when the marriage ends? ;)

slguy comments on NOW TO SLGUY.....

Yep. The pirate slipped away for a short shakedown cruise in the Abacos. ;) Spur of the moment. I really only intended a weekend in Bimini. Somehow I wound up in the Abacos. One of life's little mysteries. Thanks for your words. It's nice to know someone noticed my absence. ;)

slguy comments on

does this mean i get a pass if I "yea, but" a little, simon? jajajajajajjaa

slguy comments on Immigration scumbag in Miami

learn something today, rikito? ;)

slguy comments on Pawns In Colombia's Jungle; 3 Americans Abandoned By Own Government Saying, Hasta La Vista Boys

my point exactly. I'm not saying they weren't or were...as i recall, they were spotting coca fields for eradication? who knows what they were really up to...I just was curious how they became mercenaries.

slguy comments on Come Celebrate Midsummer Ikea Style

I REALLY want one of those red hats, like the guy with the glasses is wearing...my image could use a little sprucing up these days. and the plastic jugs? I assume that's the swede version of moonshine? what's it called, des? coming from North Carolina, I'm sortuva fan of the home brew. ;)

slguy comments on Pawns In Colombia's Jungle; 3 Americans Abandoned By Own Government Saying, Hasta La Vista Boys

hmmmm..what am I missing? how did three guys flying around in a small general aviation aircraft turn into mercenaries?

slguy comments on

see what happens when the gates get thrown open indiscriminately? ;)

I'm just saying, craig, that like many credentials, maybe a TESOL certification doesn't make you a competent teacher, but it does demonstrate that you're serious enough about the profession to have invested some time/money into pursuing the profession, when you talk to potential employers. just my thinking - I could be WAY out in left field on this, though.

slguy comments on

"Miss Somondoco? High school senior? She looks 14 years old." morph, morph....;)

slguy comments on

I may be speaking from complete ignorance (wouldn't be the first time!) but if I was looking to hire a teacher, and a warehouse manager approached me for the job, I'd be a lot more inclined to give him a listen if he had demonstrated his real interest by going to the trouble of getting the TESOL. but that's just me.

Interesting, darkangel. My limited experiemce has been exactly the opposite. I couldn't find anyone who didn't like him. "Uribe has made the country safer but when it come to the rest of the social problems hes done nothing. " Has it occurred to you that the first step in improving ANYONE'S life is providing security? something that has been sadly absent, until recently, in colombia? it's pretty tough improving anyone's life when they live in constant fear of losing that life. The guy's not Superman. Think, for a moment, about the pile of problems he inherited to deal with. No question but what colombia has a long way to go. Why does anyone expect that a president can turn a country wracked by so many problems, for so many years, into some sort of utopia in a few years? The FIRST goal of any government is to provide for the security of it's citizens, and while there is certainly some work left to do, major strides have been made. Seems to me that if all he accomplishes before leaving office is the disbanding of AUC as an organized force, and the seemingly close defeat of the FARC in equal terms, the man's done more than his part.

slguy comments on But seriously: What about Uribe

"The wealthy friends of mine in Cali spend more money in their hair dye in a year than what the government spends to help a displaced family in Cali." Then maybe your wealthy friends oughta step up to the plate? ;)

slguy comments on Real Pirates of the Caribbean

"Clever. Being at sea - alone - is a vulnerable position." You a sailor? Have any knowledge whatsoever of what you're talking about? Or just making cracks from the cheap seats? Never mind - your attempt at humor gives you away....

slguy comments on Real Pirates of the Caribbean

doc - despite all the macho bluster - most of avoiding problems with bad guys is avoiding putting yourself in a vulnerable position.

slguy comments on But seriously: What about Uribe

despite the "yea, but" contingent here, Uribe enjoys almost unbelievably popular support amongst colombians. You "yea, but" guys'll argue polling methodology, bla bla bla.....but even if you anti-uribistas like to believe that he's the devil incarnate - most of colombia knows better, much to their credit.

slguy comments on Immigration scumbag in Miami

sorry, gorgona. I just don't buy that a kiwi got deported over passport stamp envy. gotta be a lot more to that story.;)

slguy comments on kat1

kat- check your email, please?

slguy comments on

romy, your naivete is only surpassed by your arrogance. you'd make an excellent parisian! ;)

slguy comments on

simon, you just don't get it. for the ivory tower liberal types, 300 million from "angel" in Raul Reyes laptop doesn't necessarily refer to dollars from el payaso - but uribe is all-knowing, so of course he knew they were paracos! got it, now? ;)

slguy comments on Immigration scumbag in Miami

simon? you're a black man?

slguy comments on Immigration scumbag in Miami

yea - but I'm ugly. plus, based on his avatar, so is larry - white, I mean.

slguy comments on I miss my novia

me? angry? nahhhhhhh. bathhouse? I was wondering if your keyboard had problems with "o" - I think you mispelled "novia", possibly. There're two "o's" in the word you were looking for, I think....;)

slguy comments on I Have Cheese In My Luggage!

"I wasn't hot on the idea of losing a big wheel of custom cheddar to the DAS lunchwagon" Good God, how the world has changed. Now we're worried about getting busted for wheels of cheese when transiting to/from colombia. ;) Rob- you from Wisconsin, by any chance? jajajajajajjaa

slguy comments on

"But the f*cking edit function won't let me." THAT'S more like it. jajajajajajjaa Don't worry - I'll do the heavy lifting for ya, on the kitten... Photobucket

slguy comments on any help out there?

"3. RN's aren't eligible for temporary work visas" "H1A is a Registered Nurse for TEMPORY employment" huh?

slguy comments on

I got the message the first time, kalder. ;) but now I'm REALLY worried about you.

slguy comments on Immigration scumbag in Miami

sanandressi, you're offbase because our goverment employees have NO excuse for not conducting themselves in a professional manner. Rudeness in a government employee is simply not acceptable, under any circumstances. Doesn't make foqall difference how many visa overstays there are- professionalism is the minimum that anyone ought to expect from representatives of our government. I'm surprised at your story, larry. I've never once gotten hassle when returning from anywhere. Never even searched baggage - which somewhat disappoints me in our system..;)

slguy comments on construction costs?

Thanks, Bill. Great info.

slguy comments on Immigration scumbag in Miami

jajajajajajajajajajjaja "needless to say. Visa denied :)))" gotta love your mom, no?

slguy comments on construction costs?

attagirl, kat! exactly what i was looking for. you noted the Meta part of the question? ;) nothing like getting great info, quickly - thanks.

slguy comments on construction costs?

prefab, Bill? define this, please? prefab lumber? prefab concrete?

slguy comments on Immigration scumbag in Miami

"I told them that my wife had an entry visa, all of her papers where in order and that they had past scrutiny in Bogotá. Unless they had a provable reason to reject my wife, they had no other option but to allow her in the U.S." You got lucky. You were dead wrong. The ultimate decision on entering the country lies with the immigration officer, not the embassy. All due respect, I'm surprised they didn't make it harder on you, just for your uninformed arrogance.

slguy comments on I miss my novia

kalder, I've seen christmas turkeys less full of crap than you are, today. jajajajajajajajajjaa

slguy comments on

dammit, kalder. first 'love is a raindrop", now "sense of mischief"? get a sentimental injection over the weekend, did we? ;)

slguy comments on Immigration scumbag in Miami

sanandressi, you're so far off base, you can't even see the ballpark from where you stand.
