shenley comments on cheap cheap spanish lessons in bogota!!!!!!!!! Hi guys! I just want to say that I have been taking lessons with Javier for the past 2 months and he is really good!!!! I would not hesitate.... if you need it, call him!!! Me personally, am very happy with him. Have learnt a lot, improved a lot and had fun as well... :-) Great guy for Spanish... jejeje

shenley comments on English 212 - English teachers needed in Medellin Hm, very interesting.... But somehow I believe that having TEFL or CELTA is not enough... The person must be willing to learn and improve his teaching skills all along... :-) But having one of these two is a first step.... :-) I just passed TEFL course and have to say that there is still a lot to learn... :-)

shenley comments on Rooms to rent, where to find jejeje, I am in the same position... on PBH you can usually find just really expensive accomodation but in good locations with certain standard... and usually english speakers.... I was told to get sunday`s El Tiempo newspaper... there are many offers around Bogota.... I will certainly get one tomorrow since I want to move at the beginning of may.... hey, good luck... you can try internet as well... but there is nothing interesting for me right now.... I would try El Tiempo.... :-)

shenley comments on who wants to study spanish in Bogota with me... share course and price Hi guys, I know that the private course is pricey and that is why I want to switch for semi private one... and as I said before, the price will be divided by number of people in a class... Teachers are qualified and usually teach English in Bogota as well. I guess my level would be maybe 3 on 1 to 10 scale... Before I wanted to study with EAFIT but was warned about inflexibility... in here, I can chose the hours since the teacher is really flexible and professional... Please, bear in mind that I just arrived 3 days ago!!! I have tried to find a full time spanish classes at universities but no luck whatsoever... If you know about anythin affordable, I would be more than happy to check on it here in Bogota... But on the internet, this was the best I found... I think that 100 pounds a month for a semi private, full time course with 3 people in a class is not that bad... Check on nueva lengua... that is way more expensive and EAFIT does spanish classes only in Medellin... and sometimes donºt even open a class... I have better chances to find 2 other people for a course in Bogota than wherever else in Colombia... and besides, Bogota has the best Spanish... check it on the internet :-) that is why I would not consider cheaper Ecuador... ... Any help or suggestion from you guys will be appreciated... :-) chao

I bought a colombian sim card for Movistar but somehow doesn't work.. it did not get activated as it should.... I will have to go to the shop and try to explain with my almost non existent spanish what I want... :-( ok my dear wish me luck and thanks for a prompt response.... xxx

I have never been to Colombia before and don`t know Bogota so, if I like it I would stay longer. But at this point, without knowing Bogota, I can promise 3 months at least... That is the address of my school I am going to study with and therefore need to know other areas which are close to this address. I need to find an accomodation but not too pricey, just one room not a flat somewhere cheaper but not too far away from school!!! Do you know which areas are close but less expensive for living??? thanks :-)

I was just asking about how the public transport works, if it's possible to get something like a travel card and how much it costs... so, please guys help me... do not make it even harder for me... Have enough people around telling me all these things... I am really looking forward to come to Colombia no matter what is waiting for me out there. To live in a fear is not to live at all.... Hi Crista, that is great!!! I am basically interested in all of those positions... In general, I really like all challenging situations... in the past I used to work with children, elderly and have done some drug prevention but that was long, long ago... I would really appreciate any contacts or links or whatever... The only problem is that I don`t really speak much of Spanish but will go to school every day... I don`t mind to work for cristian organizations at all. Anyway, I saw your profile and noticed that you travelled to Checkoslovakia as well... Where about??? Probably Prague, am I right??? It was quite hard, since most of schools are very, very expensive and the only one affordable with a good quality was EAFIT. Not sure the school is in Bogota as well but in general it should be easier to find an affordable course over there!

When it comes to living I never spent too much on food but I`m keen on veg and fruit but that suppose to be cheap over there. I prefer to rent a room with bunch of nice people or a colombian family which should be much cheaper than renting an apartment... something decent in a nice part of Medellin... nothing flashy or expensive. That`s what I hope for...

Traffickers can be very smart so, their trafficking webs cover clubs; bars or they can even cooperate with an agency that provides great work opportunities abroad or even with marriage agencies... They cooperate from country to country so; it can be difficult to track them down. It is also common to advertise in newspapers and make it pretty lucrative for women to respond... and if you are not the lucky one and not the smartest one, you can’t see what is behind it! Poverty and lack of education makes trafficking even more easier. Yes, it is possible. They will make you work as a prostitute by all means - they threaten you using your family as a possible target if you do no obey.

shenley comments on Airpasses for Latin America airpasses There are many airpasses you can get for the whole Latin America. You basically purchase only kilometres between destinations you want to travel to and it suppose to be cheaper than normal fare. One of the biggest is LAN pass operated by Chilean or Argentinian airline, not sure now. I think that it can be a great money saver if you want to travel around Latin America so, I`m trying to find out more... You can create your own itineraries by buying a sufficient number of kilometres...

I am having a great time reading your responses...:-) I agree with the fact that many americans have only poor knowledge about rest of the world... not even mentioning Europe!!! But you know what? It is very similar in the UK although people seem to notice other nationalities, let`s say from Europe... it`s just they are very confused about the Central and Eastern Europe... and countries within these parts. When it comes to languages, I went to college to study french as my third language and found only one british woman in the class of 15. There were only 4 people at the end... brazilian, czech, slovak and polish. But have to say that Elizabeth our english classmate was one of the best... :-) nice woman! So, it is not only that americans or british or whoever do not have knowledge of other countries or cultures but also have only limited desire to study other languages! They are happy with english and anyone who can`t speak the language is idiot. how sad but how true... :-(
