Yesterday, I was informed of a mandatory meeting at the English Academy where I work. Supposedly there will be a DAS official from Bogota there trying to help us get legal work status. The whole situation sounds kinda funny to me, I have worked at this particular school for over a year (on a tourist and then on a business visa both don't allow me to work legally). Has anyone heard of a similar situation? Should I be afraid of the meeting? Any first hand knowledge of situations similar? Thanks, S ...
Hello Friends, After several trips to the Lawyers office, DAS, Notarias, etc. I got my business visa for two years! A friend who has the same visa and renewed it was told that he had to leave the country every six months when he tried to renew and ended up leaving the country in order to renew. Does anybody have any info. on this, maybe a link to the MRE website stating stipulations of the business Visa. I have looked and can't find it. I know that the lawyer should know but he seems to ...
Anybody out there planning on taking a boat to Panama or the San Blas islands. My tourist VISA expires on the 27th of December and I need to get out of the country on or by that date. I have researched in Cartagena about the possibilites and it costs appoximately $270 US with meals for a five day cruise. I really dont want to travel right now but I want to do everything on the straight and narrow. I have applied for a business VISA here in Colombia but they are asking for more paperwork. Do ...
I am ready to turn in all of my paperwork for the Business Visa here in Medellin, Colombia. Unfortunately, the lawyer who does the 'tramite" is in Cartagena until maybe the 15th of December but he may be back sooner. To make things worse my tourist visa expires the 27th of December. The secretary at his office said that it would be no problem if I wait until the lawyer comes back and then turn in the paperwork. This makes me nervous because I don't think that it is enough time to get the who ...
Yesterday I went to pay the $60.400 COP to Bancafe in order to extend my tourist visa another 30 days. The lady behind the counter just shook her head. DAS has moved their account to Sudameris and according to their website they have three convenient locations. Crr 43A # 1 sur - 88 (El Poblado), Crr 43A #14 - 27, and Crr 46 #52 - 46 (Centro) I called DAS and asked for the account number and she said that I needed to come down to the office personally and I called Ballocks on that: Account nu ...
Before I head off to Panama to apply for my Rentista Visa for Colombia I want to make sure that everything will go smoothly. My burning question is this... I have a letter from my bank in the States (Vanguard) that states I have $24,743 in a money market account. I had this notarized and then apostilled in my home state of Washington and then sent to me here in Colombia. Does the translation need to be sent back to the states to then be notarized and apostilled? I know it is a knit picky qu ...
Can anyone recommend a good document translator here in Medellin. I have an apostilled and notarized document that I need translated to Spanish. Bueno, bonito y barato. Thanks, Sebas
Hey Guys, I read your posts almost daily and have gleaned lots of info and some risas from the PBH community. I need some help here with the step by step process for the Rentista. Anyboby with experience in this could really help me. This is the deal: My secretary in Washinton State has an official document from my Bank (Vanguard Investment Group) stating my current account balance (over $24,000) in my money market account in Pennsylvania. What can I have my secretary do to the documen ...
