sebasenbogotá comments on Calling Col. from Canada. What pre-paid calling card is the best and cheapest? Try www.thephonecardstore.ca you can search for the best ones, and you buy them online and you get your pin number and dialing instructions through email, is really good.

sebasenbogotá comments on Colombia's Dark Side Thededalus a question Hey, how did you come here, I mean what exchange were you on? I am just wondering what exchange programs were sending people to Colombia, when I was at school, there was a Belgian and then a GErman guy, but well no more exchange students came again, that was like in 2000.

sebasenbogotá comments on Gringo girls looking for a good time!!! Some good ones As the other guy said there are good bars in "la 93", there is one that is really good, but is almost always completely crowded is called "el salto del angel" in one of the corners of the park. Around the same place there are other ones that are cheaper but a bit different, Cafe Tostion is good, you pay 10.000 and you can use that amount to buy whatever, and they play all kinds of music. There is a salsa one called "galeria café libro" just besides Tostion that is really good for salsa but a bit expensive. And well if you go to "la zona T" in la 82 there are plenty of bars and clubs you should like. You just have to walk and choose.

sebasenbogotá comments on Dramatic Travel Tips.... Camo clothes As Sidneygirl said you can´t wear the same clothes as the army, I don´t know where that law is but my friend had his brother in the military service for a year, he gave him his army pants, and once he was walking in Pereira´s downtown and a guy from the army asked him aqbout his pants and told him it was illegal to wear them, so he had to take them off, and walk home wearing only his boxers lol.

sebasenbogotá comments on A Must Read Was it las tuesday? Hey Sydneygirl, I was just wondering when did that happen? The tanks (tanquetas as we call them)are not everyday things in any area of Bogotá, maybe it was the day of the "paro" strike, last tuesday, there were special security measures for that. I think Bogotá is probably safer than any other city in Colombia. Safe in the sense of guerrilla ,narcotrafficking and paramilitary actions. Not normal delicuency.

sebasenbogotá comments on What's a paisa? Me Yes now I get it
sebasenbogotá comments on What's a paisa? Paisas! Well, litost as you said in university I am called "el paisa" but that is mostly because of my accent, that is no problem it can get you out of trouble sometimes. But yes we are a little different from them, I have very good Paisa (Antioquia Paisas) friends, but some of them won´t consider us (eje cafetero people) paisas. I think as you said we have a mixture of cultures from el Valle del CAuca (especially the ones from Risaralda and Quindio, people from Caldas is a little bit more paisa in a way) and Antioquia which is really good, because we can be a little bit more open to other people and ideas from the rest of the country. I really love "el eje cafetero", its a really nice spot to live in although I don´t live there for most of the year.

sebasenbogotá comments on Wide Open Sorry about it Well first, I want to say I am really sorry about what happened to your girlfriend´s father, its something horrible that many Colombian families have had to suffer.

sebasenbogotá comments on Question re: high school in Colombia... A little bit more on the matter In fact you change to secondary school on 6th grade, but you also get a diploma when you finish 9th grade, which i am not sure what is for?, and then 10th and 11th grade are called "media vocacional". You also should know that most people stay in the same school from kinder garden until 11th grade.

sebasenbogotá comments on Mas o menos, cuanto vale vivir en Colombia al mes...? The reason for 64kb Well guys the simple reason for the 64kb is that you will be connected all time without paying for the phone line, the 128kb one costs 20.000 pesos more which in one year is about 240.000 pesos more, some people just prefer saving that money, and may not need or be able to afford higher speeds.
sebasenbogotá comments on Mas o menos, cuanto vale vivir en Colombia al mes...? CAble In Bogota cablenet offers a plan that is like 100.000 pesos for cable and dsl internet 64kb. I am not sure if it is just for University students though, but it is not 200.000unless you want 256 kb. And about a meal you can buy a "corrientazo for around 4.000 that is a complete meal in a not really fancy place.

sebasenbogotá comments on Contemporary Writers Yes but he asked for contemporary Latin American writers I think Gabriel Garcia Marquez is the best Colombian writer ever, but the person that started the post asked for contemporary Latin American writers, and to my understanding GGM started his career a long long time ago One hundred years of solitude is from the 60's I think, unless my definition of contemporary is too short in time.

sebasenbogotá comments on Is is possible to drive from Bogota to Rio de janeiro? Probably Well I think so you have to leave Colombia for Ecuador and so on,( I believe there is no road in the Amazon, you will have to fly at least in Colombia) the only problem is that it will take a long long time, I think you have to go down to Chile or Argentina, well maybe Bolivia before you get into Brazil, Rio is on the Atlantic coast kind of far away. Remember that South America is kind of big.
