scumbuster comments on K-1 Visa Question I went through the Vermont center 3 years ago. Just before I applied they were far behind and put on some more temp. case workers to catch up. My wife had her visa in her passport in 2 months. Definatly not the norm. I would have guessed about 6 months intil I read Chewy's post.....Must be a lot of guys in the north east geting fed up with american women. jajaja

scumbuster comments on what would you game plan be... If you give a concrete date for your trip you will become a lot more attractive to some women. Lots of guys are all talk about visiting and are a no shows. You know what they say. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. WOW am I showing my age with that one. jajaja If you are looking at the model types you may be heading for trouble if your looking for anything serious.
scumbuster comments on what would you game plan be... Who better than to show you around, than a local woman that you may or may not hit it off with? They know the local areas and sights. If you have some time before your visit strike up some online conversations to ask for sights to see. Mention when you will be in Medellin and you may have offers to show you around.

scumbuster comments on Importing New Truck to conserve cash, bring dog and tools From the USA side how would they even know you took it out if you are driving? Many people drive to Mexico and Canada and there cars are financed. I would think its only the restrictions, Colombia would have on the receiving end.

scumbuster comments on I-864 contract enforcement If she were back in Colombia you may have a chance, however I doubt they would let you off the hook if she is living here in the US with the potential to become a ward of the state. I would think you would need to question an immigration attorney on that one. Its not likely if you call the free USICS # they could answer that one.

scumbuster comments on Cutting a page out of a Passport, could this work? I had to have a passport replaced once. It was stolen in Russia. In this case when you apply for a replacement passport do you get new passport #? I know you need new pictures. If its a new passport # issued with the new passport, when you go home to the US you could send in for a replacement passport. The problem with all of this is how many rules and regs. you are breaking throughout this process. Here in the US and in Colombia.

scumbuster comments on Russia's Putin Vows To Make Relations With Latin America a Top Priority Cheap energy. Nuclear energy is awesome and costs a fraction and if the waste is handled correctly the infringment on natural resourse is nothing compared to fossil fuels. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What waste? They just make bombs out of it?

scumbuster comments on Fiance Visa and Tourist Visa RJ and Casa, Don’t give in so easy guys. You know what they say about one bad apple. At least from an American point of view, it couldn’t be any worse that what’s here in the US. You need to step back and take a long look at potential problems. Set up guidelines of what your looking for and stick to them. Believe me I know when some hot young woman invites you to visit its hard to turn down, but that’s a sure way to have problems. I learned my lessons the hard way in Russia. Great country to visit but leave the women in Russia. LOL Anyway, before you start, set up some reasonable age guidelines and then stick to them. I started off visiting women 15 to 17 yrs younger. Odds are it’s not going to work. After lots of fun, numerous problems but luckily no marriages. #1. I decided that 10 yrs. Max age difference and preferably less. I will point out I look and act at least 10 years younger than I am. I’m still very active and play hockey year round, golf, scuba. I am 52 now. #2. I only speak English so anyone I am interested in must have a little more than basic English speaking abilities. #3. After being in Russia where the majority of the population is atheist, I decided I wanted a woman that had a strong belief in God. Let’s face it, if you don’t believe in God many times (not always) you don’t have the same moral compass as someone that does. #4. Other things such as personal physical tastes in women come later after the first 3 are met. You better have more in common than liking to role around in bed together too. Lol #5. Don’t be in any hurry to start paperwork. If she is pushing you to get the paperwork started you better step back and take a hard look. I don’t know how many guys I have talked to that go to meet a woman and come home to start the paperwork. Besides, what’s the hurry? Traveling to visit is fun. It’s much cheaper before your married too. Only one airline ticket to buy. All in all it was fun looking, but when you find the right one its even more fun getting married. I have 3 years with my wife. It’s not a long time but I feel very confident in our relationship. My wife would do anything for me and I would for her. Here is a last indicator if you have the right women. Will you marry her without a prenuptial? If you’re not sure you need to know her better before you marry her or keep looking. After my first wife took me to the cleaners I always planed to have a prenup if I got married again. When I found Alexandra I knew I didn’t need one.

scumbuster comments on The All-American Arepa ® Cookbook Thanks GS. We have a couple near us. She will be in heaven if she doesnt have to ration arepa's:)

scumbuster comments on Fiance Visa and Tourist Visa Actually my wife could petition to bring her mother here legally so why would she come and stay illegally?
scumbuster comments on Fiance Visa and Tourist Visa My mother in law has been denied a tourist visa 2 times. We only wanted her to come visit for a month or so. She owns her apartment in Colombia. I sent a letter of invitation explaining everything and promising that I would see that she returned before the expiration of her visa. It was a quick easy $200 for the embassy. Her interviews each lasted about 4 minutes. Denied! Go for it but as I said, don’t hold your breath. Only cost you $100 to try. We will be trying again next year.
scumbuster comments on The All-American Arepa ® Cookbook I had almost forgotten. Every time we go back to Colombia my wife brings back several bags of the corn meal type substance she uses to make arepa’s. I am always grateful when she runs out several months after we return home. Arepa’s are back in my diet again in 2 weeks. We may have arepa Christmas cookies. LOL

scumbuster comments on Fiance Visa and Tourist Visa The fiancée visa is valid for 90 days from your fiancée’s entry to the USA not the date it’s issued. Do not hold your breath hopping for a tourist visa.

scumbuster comments on Colombian Men? Sometimes drunk.. I have been to Russia 5 times and will make my 5th trip to Colombia in 2 weeks. There is no comparison in the drunks between the two. For one, the drink of choice in Russia is vodka. They don’t even conceder beer as drinking. Lol When you get off the subway in Moscow or SPB you will see many falling down drunk. All with there bottle in there hands. Sleeping in corners passed out drunk. Very common sight, especially at night. At the exits outside from the subway lots of broken vodka bottles laying around on the ground. Even many women in Russia can hold there own with the men (American) drinking vodka. I even saw a boy that looked to be about 14 yrs old. Riding a bicycle with a bottle of beer in his hand, drinking as he rolled along. I don’t see anything of this degree in Colombia.

scumbuster comments on Spirit Airlines, Cartagena-Ft Lauderdale I will be flying Spirit out of FLL to Bogota Fri. Oct 17. It actually takes 2 hours to check in? Glad I didn’t decide to make a connection from another airline there the same day. I would have had about 50 minutes from my arrival from Pittsburgh to catch the flight to Bogota. I questioned if this was possible and opted to fly in the day before and visit relatives and spend the night there. Guess I need to get to the airport early the 17th.

scumbuster comments on US$ equals 2067COP Tell you what. I will vote for Obama if he agrees to balance the budget. He can spend it for what ever he wants then.
scumbuster comments on US$ equals 2067COP The problem with Obama will be that there will be no checks and balance. Dems top to bottom. I don’t like McCain but unfortunately we must all plug our nose and vote for one or the other. Unless Ron Paul says something good at his press conference tomorrow morning looks like I will be stuck voting for McCain and I really don’t want to. We cant afford Dems having control of everything and ramming spending down our throats. MM you turn such a blind eye to Obama. lol Its laughable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- McCain says he is against all the $$$ Lobbyists yet just last week at his Convention, who was there but all the Big Money Lobbyists spending Big Bucks throwing all those Lavish Parties, Golf Matches. And those Lobbyists will be looking to McCain for BIG favors if he is voted in. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don’t tell me you have the gall to say it’s not the same for Obama. And all the earmarks he takes. At least McCain has never taken earmarks. Although it really pains me to defend McCain..lol But people are so blind with Obama just because he gives a good speech.

scumbuster comments on A warning to those who wire money to Colombia Its funny so many women can get buy and do without before the gringo came into there lives and all of a sudden they always need help.

scumbuster comments on US$ equals 2067COP The way Obama will be spending money the value will go down. Bigger defecate. More inflation. Higher interest rates.

scumbuster comments on Value for Money Last year when I was in Bogota we rented 3 new release DVD's. The name of the place was Hollywood Video in some little dank storefront. After we picked the DVD,s we wanted, the guy asked if we could came back in 1 hour as he had to download the one online. Every time I go by a Hollywood Video here at home I chuckle. Maybe the same place yours CD.s came from. LOL

scumbuster comments on Obama in Colombia! MM I will have to continue this tonight. I have to go new car shopping with my wife now. You have all day to think now..jajajaja
scumbuster comments on Obama in Colombia! If you look at the facts!!!! We have had 1 year in the last 50 of a balanced budget. This was a bipartisan effort with the republicans having control of both the house and senate and Dems having the Pres. We had a defecate for many years before this and every year after this. When you get right down to it the pres. can’t spend a cent. It’s the house and senate that are currently run by the dems. that make the budgets and they are only signed or vetoed by the pres. I seem to remember that every year the house makes a big deal out of the budget submitted by the president saying it is DOA. The politicians answer is, we have a government program to fix every problem so vote for me. Both parties are to blame. The dollar tanked because neither party will address this countries financial problems. I can sit here and put my head in the sand because I am doing quite well currently. I have a good job. I can save a few bucks and if stupidity in Washington didn’t rule I would retire to a quite comfortable life. Actually even if they screw things up royally will still have a decent retirement, but what kind of country are we leaving for our kids? I have done quite well under George Bush, but that doesn’t mean I agree with how he has spent us into the ground. Obama is no better and doesn’t even try to hide it. He wants to spend just as much as Bush, just on different things. Sure you can have the debate what is better to spend the money on, but the fact is we don’t have the money to spend. So what will happen when he spends it anyway? That snowball just keeps rolling and getting bigger and bigger. And it appears you are short sighted enough not to care. I really can’t stand McCane or Obama. I would have voted Ron Paul, and still may. The only slight bright spot I see is Sarah Palin, only because she isn’t a Washington insider. Just maybe she can continue to expose government misspending and corruption as she has done to both parties in Alaska. But I don’t hold out much hope of improvement until there are desperate times in the USA. Then everyone will cry, what happened. It’s voting for a bum just because he wares the title Republican or Democrat.
scumbuster comments on Obama in Colombia! MM. You NEED Connections to accomplish anything in Washington Period! This is exactly the problem. This thinking dooms you to never getting anything changed. I say throw all the bums out. We don’t need professional politicians running the country. It was never intended to be this way. Mike, you sound like a ham sandwich democrat. If the democrats put a ham sandwich on the ballot you would vote for it. There are republicans that do the same. Issues aren’t Dem. Vs Rep. You say things can’t get much worse under Obama. Jajajajajajajaja Sure they can. They can get a lot worse under either of these two candidates. As bad as you think things are, how do you think things will be when SS and Medicare, Medicaid trust funds are broke and the national debt is eating up 75% of all of our tax revenue just paying the interest on the debt? The national debt is a snowball at the top of Mt. Everest. If it picks up much more speed it will be unstoppable. We need people that as soon as they take office they are not looking at what they can do to get reelected. What group can I buy off so I can get reelected? Every credit card has a limit. The USA’s Platinum Card is about maxed out. Soon the bank (China-Saudi Arabia. exc) is going to say you’re at your credit limit and we are not lending you any more. So what then. Well I imagine the politicians will then turn on the printing presses and then print more money to pay the bills. Massive inflation. $200. for a loaf of bread. Think it can’t happen? Think again. On our present course it not only could happen, it will happen. And as long as all the sheep keep looking at this the same way we are doomed. It is total irresponsibility to continue to spend more money on any new programs until we are on good financial ground again, but they are both pandering trying to buy as many groups as they can before November. Anyone here ever think about retiring to Colombia? Well when 1 dollar is equal to 1 COP how far will your pension or SS get you? We will need to retire to Somalia or some 3 world country because the dollar will be worthless. Why is it that people can’t see any farther than tomorrow? Tomorrow we will not be broke. But if we miss this window of opportunity to fix things, in 20 to 25 years that snowball that is rolling down Mt. Everest will be so big that it will eat the US economy and it will not even slow it down. The USA is acting like the person that borrows and spends every cent he can, because he thinks, I may die tomorrow. Well guess what? What if you don’t? Guess what, Your kids will be here, Guess what, Your grand kids will be here. I hope to live long enough to retire to Colombia but if the USA keeps blowing the tax payers (That would be yours and mine, and unfortunately our kids and grandkids) money know one will be able to retire. Its my retirement they are screwing with so I take it very seriously.

scumbuster comments on Obama in Colombia! This is the most pressing issue facing the USA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLr6dR_LmIM&feature=related

scumbuster comments on Obama in Colombia! Actually I am probably closer to your prospective Elmo than you may think. I would conceder myself a libertarian. Elmo, if you want 3 hookers I think you should be able to have them. There is way, way, way too much government. If we had unlimited recourses I think Obama could do a fine job of spending it all with all kinds of wonderful programs. Unfortunately if we spend like a drunken sailor similar to the last 8 years we may never be able to get out of the hole. This isn’t a Dem. Or Rep. issue. It’s a fiscal responsibility issue. Sarah Palin is the only bright spot in a dismal race. We need people that are independent running for office. Not the same cookie cutter politics liberal against conservative. We need a strong 3rd party but we are far from that. Unfortunatly!
scumbuster comments on Obama in Colombia! .You miss the point of the Sarah Palin nomination. She is the only one of the 4 that can remotely know what it is to be an average citizen of the US. I feel the least amount of Washington experience the better. You don’t need to be an insider of Washington to run the USA. You need common sense. That is something that has been missing from Washington for many years. Any president can get more than enough advice from experts in any field. You need someone with common sense to filter it and make a good decision. A decision not based on which lobbyist donations to his campaign. Or which special interest group opposed which new regulation being proposed.

scumbuster comments on Obama in Colombia! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLr6dR_LmIM&feature=related Can we afford more debt? We can’t afford to pay for the programs we have now. Social Security and Medicare are seriously under funded for the future and all we have in the trust funds are IOU’s from the federal government. Now can we afford more sweeping federal programs such as health care? Sure it would be great but how do we pay for it? We can’t pay for what we have. Everyone wants more and more as long as they don’t have to pay for it. Let the rich pay for it. That’s what the Democrats say. The top 5% are already paying for 80% of the taxes. We have the second highest corporate tax rate in the world and wonder why the jobs are leaving the USA? Duh!!! We better get someone running this country other than politicians that are voted on by name recognition. The free lunch is coming to an end and the longer we wait to begin to fix it the more the fix will hurt. $4.00 a gallon gas is nothing to what our economy will be like soon if it isn’t on the right track. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yAbT-JA7rM&feature=related

scumbuster comments on Obama in Colombia! Waterdawg: No. Read all the reviews and seen the interviews about it. I am in small market here and if it comes around at all, it will be a while. Probably have to wait for DVD or in the Documentary Chanel. In the primary I started to investigate Ron Paul. Everyone in the main stream media made him out to be a kook but he is extremely knowledgeable and well read about economics. I just read the bio on McCain VP pick. Sarah Palin is an interesting read. Sounds more like she should be leading the ticket.
scumbuster comments on Obama in Colombia! Did anyone see IOUSA. Neither candidate will address the pressing issues facing the USA. Now they are just buying votes and pandering. The only difference between them will be which one will we be more in debt from after they leave office. Vote Ron Paul.

scumbuster comments on Spirit Airline Check-In Question - FLL/CTG I am going from Pittsburgh to Bogota on Spirit in Oct. I am switching airlines in FLL and only had 45 min down and 1 hour back between flights. From hearing this I am glad I decided to spend 1 night in FLL going each way. I didnt want to take a chance missing my connection. For future reference, what is the procedure of airlines if you miss a flight due to another airline running late or canceling a flight?

scumbuster comments on Convince me this is a good/bad idea If you need a driver I can make a recomondation. We use the same guy every time we go. I highly recomend him. The first thing I noticed when I met him was that his car didn't have door handles. lol

scumbuster comments on Convince me this is a good/bad idea If you’re moving around a lot anyway your older daughter probably adjusted to this lifestyle. It would be a great experience for her if she has never been out of the USA to live in Colombia a couple years. As Turnmeon said, there are lots of bilingual schools and it’s an experience your daughter will never forget. Although it was only a 10 day vacation, (much different than living somewhere 2 years) I took my daughter to St Petersburg, Russia 5 years ago, and she is still always talking about the experience and what she saw there. I vote you go but try to get the whole family to go with you. I really think this would be a great experience for the family. If your family is there it will keep you out of trouble with the really hot Colombian women too. LOL You can be an average run of the mill guy here in the US. When you walk down the street the women don’t look twice at you, but in Colombia,,,,,, You’re a hot rich gringo. LOL And its not BS that some really hot women will be interested in getting to know you better. ;)
scumbuster comments on Convince me this is a good/bad idea If you don’t mind me asking what is your Co. Name? Frequent trips home about every 3 months. lol. My company sent 2 guys to Grand Cayman for 6 months and they got 1 week home per month. They were able to take there wives too. Everyone was fighting for those jobs. As for me they would only have to ask me once and I would be there but I would also be taking my wife. What would be your benefit for doing this job? If you still need to support your family back in the states and they are only covering your expenses you really are not gaining anything other than lots of time away from home. As for safety, I have always felt quite safe in Bogota. I am a gringo from near Pittsburgh. My wife is Colombian so I do have the guidance of someone that knows Bogota very well. During the day we walk a lot and its never any problem. At night we take the taxi for more for security, or so my wife says. Like I say, I have never even seen anything to cause me to worry. If you have never been outside the USA It may be a bit of culture shock. In October I will have my 5th trip down and I can’t wait to get there again. You will defiantly want to take Spanish lessons although short term you could get by. Every country in the world knows what a Big Mack and Coke a Cola is so you will not go hungry. Lol My vote would be to go and enjoy it.

scumbuster comments on Convince me this is a good/bad idea Bet that smelled good in a few days.. LOL

scumbuster comments on Coffee from Colombia to USA Unfortunately I am not a frequent flyer on any one specific airline. I usually take 2 or 3 flights a year but I shop around and it seems I usually am on a different airline every time I fly. Last October when we went to Bogota I think it was United. In February we went to Costa Rica and it was Continental and this October it will be Spirit. Unfortunately flying out of Pittsburgh I don’t have many of the flight options of someone flying out of JFK or Miami. This trip in October may cure me of the discount airlines. I will see how it goes, but although we will visit family in Ft. Lauderdale, I don’t like having to spend a night in FLL each way when we go down this time. The flight times just didn’t mesh well so we played it safe and opted to stay in FLL one night each way. But that’s 2 days less in Bogota.
