Thanksgiving is not celebrated here by Colombians but it might be buy Gringos or Gringo establishments like the Hilton. It is the only Holiday that I like mostly because it is not religious and involves lots of good food therefore I asked my question because if there is a possibility here for Thanksgiving dinner I dont want to miss it. By the way you people here on PBH are a bunch of idiots.

Was just in Cartagena for 8 months. Never wore long pants for one minute the entire time and never had anyone say a word or look at me funny. I was in Egypt many years ago and most people were dressed from head to toe in black and it was 110 degrees in the shade, Guess what I wore shorts.

also don't confuse Direct TV from USA and Direct TV Latin America. They are on 2 different satellites. Direct TV Latin America is available in Colombia but does not have the Networks from USA however it does have alot of USA stations and lots of stations you can watch in English just by pressing a button on the remote.

OK let me say it again Direct TV USA will not work in Colombia. You can not hit the satelite. DISH Network will for sure work in Cartagena and Baranquilla and maybe in Medelin and Cali but not sure.

OK let me repeat. You can not get Direct TV USA in Colombia. You can get DISH NETWORK USA if you have a large DISH and bring a reciever from USA.

You will not be able to get Direct TV from he USA in Colombia no matter which reciever you use. The satelite is to low in the sky. Your options are to sign up for Direct TV latin America. It is pretty good and alot of the stations are in English just by pushing a button on the remote. Your other option is Dish Network from the USA using a large Dish. There satelite is accessible but a large Dish is needed at least 1 1/2 meters.

Hi. We moved to Cartagena in Jan for one year. Me (USA) Wife (Nicaraguan) 2 boys 3 and 7 years old. The current plan is to stay this year than return to Nicaragua for a year so my wife can finish her degree and than return to Cartagena. MIA is my favorite Airport in the USA. The people watching is great if you have a layover. If you want to girl watch there is no better airport. If you have time to kill there is a really good restaurant that most people dont know about. Go to the hotel in the airport take the elevator up to the restaurant. I have been in and out of MIA at least 100 times so its not a one time experience.

I lived in Nicaragua for many years and I am very upset about the disrespect being shown here. How could you possibly compare Ortega to a Monkey. I am incredibly upset and feel very sorry for that monkey because he is absolutely no match for Ortega. I was in Home Center an hour ago. It is superb. Better than Home Depot and way better service. Good prices. It is a great place for all kind of construction and house stuff. For furniture it may not be the best place. Jamar in Pie De Popa has descent stuff that wont cost you a fortune. Also right next to Home Center is Carefor which is a great grocery store and also has electronics and things for the house. Good Luck.

Just moved to Cartagena for at least a year 2 weeks ago. I am from USA and wife from Nicaragua where I lived last 7 years. We live in Castillo Grande because its better for the kids but the Old City is where I would live if single. Yes I know Castillo is expensive but walking down the bike/walking path on the bay at 9:00 with a nice cool breeze last night with the kids was pretty damn nice after having a nice meal in Boca Grande.

Wow nothing like a bunch of conjecture by a bunch of people who dont live in Nicaragua. I have lived in Nicaragua for the last 7 years and have come upon very little anti americanism. Probably saw more when I lived in Boulder Colorado. The Eric Volz case was a very emotional case and the town of SJ Del Sur wanted justice at any cost. It was a mob lynching. The judge was so scared she found him guilty being afraid for her own safety. The justice system here is absolutely corrupt and pathetic. Are most of the people here anti American. Absolutely not most would love to live in the USA and have relatives or friends there. Is there allot of jealousy for our education and financial means. Absolutely.

Thank you for your responses Robert. There are four in my familly two with USA passports and two with Nicaraguan passports. We want to stay in Colombia for one year so the tourist visa is a last resort. Would prefer to get one year visas but havnt figured out how to do it yet. If I get retirement visa Im not sure if it applies to the rest of my family. I doubt it does. The only other possibility is Investor Visa but i would prefer not to buy something there.
