PS and the answer to your last question is No. The process of adoption cannot be sped along with extra cash.

Good luck!

Save the Wildcats comments on Colombia here I come again

Hi Desi.... That's wonderful news! Enjoy your trip!

Kim

Save the Wildcats comments on Dumb questions about Colombia

Continuing on a tangent.... the US media... I think in general, the US is extremely narrow-minded and not very interested in what's going on in the rest of the world. However, I don't think that can be attributed directly to material possessions like new cars, houses and $5000 TVs. There are people here in the US that don't have many material possessions at all and they aren't interested in what's going on outside of the US, so we can't attribute their apathy to socioeconomic smugness. On the other hand, there are people in Manizales that don't even have running water that were very concerned about their US friends after Hurricane Rita and knew more details about that hurricane than some of the US neighbors would ever want to know!

I love my country; I'm not bashing it, but every time I go out of the country one of my favorite things to see is that other countries are reporting news from ALL around the world. That, and the smaller portions served in restaurants. We are slowly killing ourselves with food here in the US.

UC, I have to agree with you on the French! I hate to generalize, but while we're at it, you seem to be 100% correct on that.

Hi Litost, good to see you!

Kim

Save the Wildcats comments on Looking for advice - please no flames

I think... we need more information. First you said that you'd take her sisters too, if that were the only way, but then you mentioned that your dream is to have them all come live with you.

I have an 11 year old friend too, that I'd like to adopt if I had the chance, but he is so much better off in his own culture with his own mother and sister. He's happy! I wouldn't do that to his mom even though I love him dearly.

I agree with the ideas above about making sure your friend has an education and trying to help her. I think that'd probably be the best idea.

Save the Wildcats comments on south american made planes???

Another vote for Embraer... my dad was a fighter pilot for many years and he was fully convinced that Embraer was the way to go.

Also, try some Xanax. I hope the flight goes quickly for you! I hate to fly unless someone I know is flying the plane, which doesn't happen much anymore.

Good luck! I'm sure it will be ok but I know how it is to worry.

Save the Wildcats comments on About some of the people talking trash on this site

Peter... thanks for an excellent site. I haven't been here very often lately, but I come here to learn and I have learned so much about Colombia and her people. Lots of the people here are wonderful and overall, the site is fantastic.

Thanks for the info... I often wonder/worry about the future of young people, especially in Colombia. It seems these days, even if you can get into a good college, it doesn't necessary guarantee that you'll have gainful employment. Good to see the unemployment going down, even though underemployment is up.

I agree... this guy is sick. I made a small joke out of it above but had I known the depth of his weirdness at the time, I wouldn't have kidded about it. That dude needs help.

UC is helpful, kind and funny and I hope this guy/guys? and all of his personalities bite the dust soon.

Save the Wildcats comments on Colombians!!!!

That would make too much sense, UC.

Save the Wildcats comments on Utopiacowboy out of control

Are you out of control, UC? Some things never change ;-)

I always pick the strangest times to come back to this forum, apparently.

Save the Wildcats comments on Men and women

Desi... yes, I do miss Zag a bit; last week I met an Italian man and I chuckled a bit and thought of Zag. I did learn some good Spanish when he was around (e.g., how to say "he has a screw loose" - surely, someday that will come in handy).

Sorry I'm not adding anything substantive to the conversation but just popped in to say hi.

Take care, great to see you.

Kim

Save the Wildcats comments on Is there any "Jersey" in New York????

Yani... Jersey's got a certain charm, though, you have to admit. I became very seasoned after growing up in Rahway. ;-)

Hi Desi... We missed you! Welcome back!

Save the Wildcats comments on Do Gringas Prefer Colombianos? Some biology thoughts..

I love...... self-confidence in a man, regardless of his looks. Good hygiene, someone that smells good, is self-assured and compassionate (but not a pushover) and someone who can make you *laugh* with a wickedly dry sense of humor is a treat. That's why I fell so hard for my husband. Cash doesn't matter, I have enough for both of us. A pretty boy doesn't mean much if he's a dolt.

Just MHO!

Save the Wildcats comments on Do Gringas Prefer Colombianos? Some biology thoughts..

What are riojas? I tried to look it up and couldn't find out. Is it a food?

Save the Wildcats comments on Do Gringas Prefer Colombianos? Some biology thoughts..

UC True, but the kid would run all the way back to Colombia when we got to the "Put four on the floor and do the dog" part of that story.

Not making fun of Elmo - I'm one of his loyal fans. But I can't trust any type of Spanish I learn here for a bedtime story, though.

Ha! I will practice my flashcards. They seem to be helping a bit. At least I knew what a cama was so that's improvement.

Que tenga una buena noche, UC!

Save the Wildcats comments on Do Gringas Prefer Colombianos? Some biology thoughts..

Kat - have fun in Spain! How nice. I bet the weather will be a lot better than what's going on in the UK. Have a great time and let us know how it goes!

Kim

Save the Wildcats comments on Do Gringas Prefer Colombianos? Some biology thoughts..

Yes, but "squeal like a pig" isn't going to help me with Spanish you'd speak to a kid.

Save the Wildcats comments on Do Gringas Prefer Colombianos? Some biology thoughts..

My Spanish stinks... no one to practice with except at Mexican restaurants, where I am almost certain they throw the frijoles in the air in horror when they see me coming. I live in Ohio and there are almost no Latinos here. We are adopting a child from Colombia or Guatemala and have been doing lots of paperwork. Not much else new here! How are things with you?

Save the Wildcats comments on Do Gringas Prefer Colombianos? Some biology thoughts..

Yes! How could I forget the argentines?

How've you been, Kat? Good to see you.

KIm

Save the Wildcats comments on Do Gringas Prefer Colombianos? Some biology thoughts..

Yeah... I think Colombian men are hot. Some Mexican men, too. Also some Chinese men and big Japanese men. I'm just hopeless.

Save the Wildcats comments on Can we still adopt from Columbia

Well... the poster said, "nothing dangerous, just dumb". That to me means perhaps getting drunk and taking off all your clothes to dance in a public fountain. Then again, that would probably not be a felony charge, so what do I know? It's hard to tell without knowing. Some people do crazy things and still make excellent parents 20 years later.

Kim

Save the Wildcats comments on Can we still adopt from Columbia

It depends.... if it's nothing serious, just dumb, sometimes they are okay with it if it was in the distant past. Obviously, some offenses are never okay, such as murder, hurting a child, endangering a child or a patient, etc. The best way to find out is to contact an adoption agency or a home study agency that specializes in home study evaluation. You want to find this out right away if possible.

Good luck!

Very nice! Now keep it up there! We need some photos of guys around here, you handsome devil!

(and Hi Miguel! Good to see you too!)

Thanks, UC! I'll try not to chew up too much right away. I missed you guys.

Save the Wildcats comments on I'm adopting a child from Colombia

Thanks Kitsmom... I appreciate the info about the CBC!

We have started our homestudy and I am doing up the bedroom, having kicked my poor DH out of his computer room. We are so excited!

Take care,

Kim

Nice pics! I didn't see one of you, though! You know I adore you; you're a kind soul underneath your clown exterior. Ssshhhh - don't tell.

Kim

Save the Wildcats comments on I'm adopting a child from Colombia

May I please ask a question? We are working with an agency, but my husband is wondering if we are allowed to have some basic lab tests ordered (such as a complete blood count). We have lost a son before (2 years today), and while there are no guarantees, my husband especially is wary of adopting a new child that has cancer (weird fear, I know, but I'm trying to humor him). Are the doctors receptive to running a CBC? I know the kids are tested for HiV and Hepatitis, but other than that, I don't know, and the agency is trying to get me a sample medical report.

Thanks very much!

Kim

Hi Litost... are we going to get an update soon on how things are going these days for you? :-D

Same stuff here, but I had to delay my September trip to Manizales. We're going later since my DH has agreed to adopt a kid with me. I am thrilled!

Save the Wildcats comments on which terrorist group would you rather be kidnapped by?

Wow! A terrorist? Meet me in the Darien Gap at midnight, and I will try to show restraint and not chew too much up under the legs and into the chest as another poster accused me of. I bite gently! ;-)

Save the Wildcats comments on Poll - Getting fat in American?

Iain and CA is as good as it gets here! Try living in the midwest, home of the Lynndie England lookalikes! I love the US but I think some people take "Supersizing" to a new extreme.

Save the Wildcats comments on representing poor people in this forum: why do most rich or people in the middle class feel superior than us?

It doesn't matter what *they* think.... hold your head up high, look people in the eye and be proud of who you are. If someone's delusional enough to think they're morally superior to you because they happen to have more money, do you really care what they think anyway?

I do know it happens - but I find the idea of people thinking they're better than others due to financial status ludicrous. I'm pretty comfortable in life now - but I will never, ever forget where I came from. When I go to a store and I'm not dressed up the salespeople aren't very nice sometimes - inwardly, I just tell them they can kiss my a$$ and smile. Of course, when I'm in a long white lab coat they are very helpful. See how shallow people can be? Shrug it off and laugh at them if they are like that. Deep down inside, even they know they're insecure if they aren't nice to people with less money.

(Kat - I like you, rich or poor!)

Take care,

Kim

Save the Wildcats comments on Lucky Dollars

Aw, crud... I didn't think they opened cards. Only 30% of the stuff I send through customs ever makes it to my friend, so now I just send the Global Priority envelopes. They can open the envelopes? Sheesh, I know I'm naive but I didn't know that happened.

Kim

Save the Wildcats comments on Lucky Dollars

Thanks... Antonio and Gator! (LOL Gator. He's only getting one dollar this month as he got a bike and presents for his family on Christmas ;-).

Antonio - no, the people here haven't indicated they are running low on patience; I just try to be self-sufficient and not always asking stupid gringo questions. When it's for a good cause, though, I never mind. :-) Thanks for your kind offer!

Welcome - we are glad to have you here with us!

Save the Wildcats comments on Sick and tired

Calipro.... "What do you call women that believe that men who seek marriage partners outside their country are nothing more than social degenerates that can't find a woman in their own country?

What do you call women that project their own values and priorities on women from a different culture. And when they don't make the same choices that they would, call them maids which is a pretty clever way of calling them low class?"

I feel you're reasonable so I'm going to be honest and take the time to clarify my position again. I agree - what you mentioned above is irritating behavior. I'm against *all* generalizations. My point is, why lump all "western women" in together? I haven't seen you do that, and I have no problem with you preferring Colombianas - **because you don't bash other women in the process**. I'm a western woman, and I've expressed nothing but happiness for you that you're happy with your girlfriend(s).

My only point here is why lump all people in together?

This is all I'm trying to say - If someone ticks you off - *take it up with them - but don't extrapolate their behavior to an entire population and think that because someone that bashed you for seeking Colombianas is xyz, then all xyz people must think that way.*

Kim

Save the Wildcats comments on Is it normal for a Colombian to...

That's ok, have the party, have a great time, and have a couple of drinks for me! Don't feel too sorry for me, my hubby's a hottie, but you're right, we'll probably camp in front of the TV tonight. ;-)

Take care,

Kim

Save the Wildcats comments on In Defense of Free Speech...

And, you know... I think I can learn something from every single person on this site (even the bashers have some good ideas sometimes) - *if they want to talk reasonably*. Some of these people just want to start trouble; they don't want an intelligent discussion. Which of course, is their right, but it's Peter's right to ban them if there here just to piss people off, too. And - travelling to a dangerous country is different than filling your mind with hateful garbage, at least to me.

Kim

Save the Wildcats comments on Is it normal for a Colombian to...

One man, one woman... I don't judge people but I know I must be getting old because I am old-fashioned.

Kim

Save the Wildcats comments on Sick and tired

You're awesome.... thanks for the excellent post.

I don't mind being called on something I did, but to have men generalize against all US women creeps me out. And that photo album of Farce's - I shouldn't have looked, but I did, and I still feel dirty after looking. Bleck.

Thanks for your nice post, it restored my faith in humanity. You sound kind of Buddhist/Taoist so maybe that's why I like you also.

Take care,

Kim
