sanandressi comments on Senorita Colombia was chosen for special reason

Did you not take second or third place when you were in the contest kat1 a few years back? I dialed your number that was on the tv screen giving you my vote. BTW That Colombian gal should have won over that phoney Venezolana last year! LOL

sanandressi comments on Offered my first job in Colombia today at a bi-lingual school in Barranquilla.

Colegio Nueva Granada? What are they paying darn it? 2,000 pesos = 1 US Dollar? 6 million would be $2,000 prretty good for Colombia I think? What does Nueva Granada pay?

sanandressi comments on do all good schools in Bogota ask for teaching certificates?

What is the monthly salary for a non Colombian teacher at Colegio Nueva Granada Bill? Experienced and little experience. I asked you before Bill and refuse to divluge the information. You are a smart guy sir Turley and I know you have the information. Is it one of those things where you would have to kill me after telling me? LOL

sanandressi comments on Exit Colombia with a minor - important questions

porec04 friend....if this is your girlfriend who you are going to bring over....think hard about it and especially if she has children....I am not telling you what to do mind you but you had better think long and hard about this.....I mean look at the work you are doing now just trying to resolve this? Good luck my friend....stay thirsty and drink Dos Equis! LOL

sanandressi comments on Don't comb over, fly over to a warm place LOL

I will stick with American, Delta, Continental and maybe even Avianca......and it warms my heart!

sanandressi comments on Party in Jamaica Bar, Parque Lleras, Medellin on November 27 2009

They say they are a "Free" service? Them Paisas can write me now that I am a "free agent". I have heard the word free before and it means read the fine print.

sanandressi comments on Airline pricing - am I missing something?!

"Build it (High speed trains) and they will come" Field Of Dreams!

sanandressi comments on Bogota vs Buenos Aires

I like them both equally. I love the Spanish in Argentina. Since you have been to both friend you should be able to make your decision but if confused, why not just flip a coin?

sanandressi comments on Airline pricing - am I missing something?!

I thought I explained it pretty well above Darloup. I think Bob Crandall, the ex CEO of American Air had a lot to do with this pricing system in the 80's. Airlines are a business like any other entity. Revenue less expenses equals profit or loss. If you want one price coming and going then encourage re-regulation and state supported airlines like most Latin countries had 30 years ago. Viasa, Tan-Sasha etc. Much of TACA is old Central American state owned supported airways. These new airlines coming and going to Florida are going to drive prices lower on Avianca and America but sooner or later if cheapo air can't make a profit they fold or...raise prices. Mostly they just pay their employees less. Same reason so many US companies have closed the factory and have gone Chinese. Most people do not fly one way and as I explained, the airlines want to know in advance how many seats are going to be full. Foreigners to Colombia need to show a return ticket segment or they don't get on the flight right? Darloup, there are people who will pay $2,000 for a ticket, not many, but they are out there, and that represents 6 people paying 300 plus for each flight. It isn't going to change unless you regulate and control seats in relation to prices and costs. Even your so called low cost carriers do not sell every seat for the same price. Is Aires going to try and sell each seat for $50 each way? What happens if fuel suddenly goes up seventy per cent? So you take your chances by buying now or later. As I said, you want something to complain about then return regulation to the airlines. That will give you something to cry about! Deregulation of the airlines has been the best thing that could happen for the consumer. I would like to see HIGH SPEED rail in the US like in Japan and Europe. 200 MPH it could be done!

sanandressi comments on

I prefer the Yellowstone River in Montana. September and October. The Bighorn is good too I hear. Trout. Rainbows , Browns and Cutthroat. Any trout in Colombia?

sanandressi comments on Airline pricing - am I missing something?!

If every commercial airline seat in the world was filled every day of the year then you would see just a few fares and the prices would stay the same save for tax increases and fuel prices. This is sort of what you had when US airlines were regulated. The number of seats were regulated and I believe the government set the fares? The current system favors the passenger in markets where you have competition. Since an airline cannot know how many passengers are flying on a certain date in May 2010 for example, they set prices at different levels with the hope that those passengers on the flight will return a profit or break even. The internet has even thrown a new turn into it all. Shop! Shop and shop and be flexible with your travel dates. This should get you your best fare. It seems goofy but airlines gotta make money sooner or later or they fold. Who would have thought that Pan Am and TWA would have disappeared. If you think fares are high now look back to when the industry was regulated in the US. Only the rich and wealthy flew commercial jets. Airplane costs, fuel costs, ground equipment, taxes, airport fees, employee salaries etc. It is an expensive industry. How many passengers realize how many gallons of jet fuel are below them on a regular American or Avianca flight just to Bogota from Miami. The so called "load factor" or percentage of seats filled is what the airlines wanna do. Even Southwest, only sells a few of their seats for theirr advertised prices of say, $39,. The internet now lets YOU as a consumer, search, for your best prices. So it depends on how much time you wish to spend searching and when you need to travel and your flexibility. Me thinks nobody would like the prices to Colombia if governments stepped in like in the past.

sanandressi comments on Fellow PBHers

Hey Platinum.....why don't you start another post that makes some sense as to what and wwhy you are doing this? You live in Miami and have a sick dog and do not want to spend money on a capitalistic vet and you ant to sennd tthe animal ffromm Washinngton to Perera or huh? Good luck amigo......are you hung over yet LOL?

sanandressi comments on Low Fares to Colombia

How much after the taxes?

sanandressi comments on Going to Colombia by train?

Let me answer my ownn question after digging on the net. They are building a new transportation center near the Miami Airport annd Amtrak will build a new station for its two New York trains. Right now the Amtrak station is 6 miles from MIA Airport. The train you see across Lejune RD goes to the Fort Lauderdale Airport so if you have time and a cheaper fare you could fly into Fort Lauderdale and train to Miami and then fly to Colombia. Might save you some money but not as convenient. How close is this rail line from Miami Airport to Fort Laudedale Airport to Amtrak's current station and where do you get off to get to Amtrak now anybody know?

sanandressi comments on Iberia Strikes

kat1........yo te dije American Airlines, Continental Airlines.....Calmar.....they will have it all resolved by Dec 18th me thinks but it goes to show that things can happen anywhere. Connecting to Colombia is always going to be best in Miami because you have so many more options....inspite of gringo customs but again there are logical reasons for US customs to be the way it is.....drugs, terrorrism, illegal immigrants....... You had a bad experience on American and now Iberia has got ya worrried and Air France has been on strike too in the past. It will work out......

sanandressi comments on Is Lou Dobbs really Colombian...?

When all you can do (SIMON) is call somebody a racist it shows that you have lost the debate and have no logical basis or fact for your viewpoints. I have a lot of respect for those ILLEGAL immigrants who openly admit that they should NOT be here in the United States and can understand that their home country is a mess economically and politically. Those illegals who push drugs and cry and complain and think the government owes them something and cry racism on great Americans like Tom Tancredo and Lou Dobbs can go back home. I don't see Colombia and Mexico offering we Americans anything in the way of welfare and education and health care etc. When Uribe offers me $2500 USD a month and a free ride to Colegio Nueva Granada for my two daughters I will go to Colombia. Ain't gonna happen is it! We Americans are more than welcome when we go to Latin countries with dollars in our pockets to spend but that is about it! Maybe give a few English classes too! Dobbs is right on about illegal immigration. The so called Latin community would be better off if it would focus on somehow improving their home countries so their people do not have to leave for either the US or Europe mainly Spain. So quit crying racism and improve your own countries. Or, like Chavez, blame your problems on Washington then watch your fellow Venezuelans run to Miami. Hmmm? Why come here if there are so many racists here like Dobbs? Victim mentality all the way! BTW I don't see the so called Hispanic community in the US ever reaching out to anglos or blacks in the way of scholarships or jobs or anything else and then the rich Hispanics in Miami look down on the poor Hispanics. Build a little community on language and exclude everybody else who can't speak Spanish.

sanandressi comments on Aires FLL - BOG Flights Begin Nov. 25th

So all these new seats to Colombia will start some great price wars and some low fares but if the seats are not sold someone will fold or stop service. Where are all these new passenges coming from? Is the Free Trade thing a done deal? Yes, I prefer US Flagship carries and Boeing! I know where I live and where a lotta Colombians wannna go!

sanandressi comments on Spirit Airlines -- is there a catch?

CLYDE, in all due fairness to AVIANCA, they are on a total replacement of their fleet. New Airbus 319,320 and 330, 350 aircraft and the new Boeing 787 (If they ever get it in the air Jejejeje). Aviannca is also flying the Fokker (Not Modefoker Jejejeje) 100's which are older but in pretty good shape. It will take 3 to 5 years to replace the older airplanes.....MD80's.....B-757...B767....which I prefer over Airbus anyway. The 757 and 767 are still "young" in aircraft terms if maintained and cleaned. If I am going to Colombia again ???? I am going through Miami on American or maybe Conttinental through Houston. Why? In Miami, if my American flight has a mechanical, they would put me on Avianca if they have room. In Fort Laudedale would Spirit put me on Avianca and how many flights a day from Miami and FLL? Two Continental flights a day from Houston. Everybody loves to save a buck but sometimes it just is not worth the hassle is it?

sanandressi comments on Shakira will appear on the Late Show with David Letterman tonight

I did miss it! I have never much cared for David Letterman. Sorry. I have watched his show many times trying to find some humor there but it ain't happening. A comedian who laughs at his own jokes shows he has little talent. I miss Jay Leno. Shakira? Cute little woman who shakes it well but I don't care for her voice. Too deep! I just don't hear anything special in her voice. Just me I guess. I prefer Paulina Rubia, La Chica Dorada. I would rather watch paint dry than watch either Letterman or Shakira sing...but dance maybe si.

sanandressi comments on Aires FLL - BOG Flights Begin Nov. 25th

Aires? What kind of aircraft? I prefer US flagship carriers myself.....noothing wrong with competition however!

sanandressi comments on Colombia- escapism for ex-pats ????

marlydog1812 is right. There is something about Colombia that the other Latin countries, at least the ones I visited, lack. The food, music, women (Men too I guess but they don't interest me Jejeje!), climate......etc But to actually live in Colombia? I dunno. You have to have a passion or job or good reason to live there 24 7 because it is easy to be a tourist anywhere.

sanandressi comments on Medellin v. Bogota?

Lisa, you can come to Los Angeles with me. We can go Plaza Olvera pa comida Mexican and afterwards we will go over to el este for the Mariachi music. Como te parece? Muy padre cierto? O sea chevere...... I like El Segundo over Redondo and Manhattan Beach....but I know what you mean. Your beaches are better than what little El Segundo has but I prefer San Andres Island and that is where we should really go!! Jejejejeje

sanandressi comments on Chavez is lining up, but would the US public support another war effort

The Castro brothers taught Chavez how to stay in power. You criticize Washington while you take away the press, industry (PDVSA), and clamp down on the opposition. Colombia and Venezuela at war? Why? Chavez has no trouble with Colombia itself but his power base now is criticizing Washington just like Cuba. Crime in Caracas? Blame Washington. Unemployment in Venezuela? Blame Washington? Poverty in Venezuela? Blame Washington. There could be a small military squirmish with Colombia and Venezuela someday. More attention for Chavez. Colombia actually probably has more reason to attack Venezuela if Chavez is harboring thhe FARC but Uribe will not attack Venezuela. Had ECUADOR allowed the US military to maintain its bases at Manta then this new agreement would have never happened. Unless these LEFTISTS in Latin America can end poverty and create great social changes for the better than the population will go back to the right. Not unlike Democrats and Republicans in the US. Unless they become dictators like the Castros and Chavez seems to be almost there. Who has accomplished more? Chavez in Venezuela or Uribe in Colombia? Also, as long as Chavez sells the US oil you will never see Washington interested in militarily attacking Venezuela. If he stops selling oil then this might change. Colombia and Venezuela are BIG trading partners. 5 daily flights by Avianca from Bogota to Caracas. They need each other. All this is Chavez trying to undermine the US in the region. Chavez's leftist buddies in the region want to play too! But the PEOPLE will get tired of these leftists if the social problems are not addressed. Same old Latin America!

sanandressi comments on Avianca is Serious JOKE

My experience to and from Colombia is American, Avianca, Lan Chile, Copa and the best, ACES! When I flew on Avianca in the late 90's, the planes were dirty and brakes squeaked. By 2004 or 2005 the planes were clean but we bought tickets via phone from here in the States with a credit card only from Bogota to San Andres and it was a disaster when we got to Bogota. A problem that any American agent in Miami could have solved in 20 minutes took 1.5 hours with some agent in Bogota trying to talk to someone in Medellin. Then, on the way back from San Andres to Bogota, they had not solved the problem in Bogota for the return portion and more stupidity on San Andres. Lan Chile from Miami? Excellent American from Miami? Quite good generally. Copa from Panama? Pretty solid. Jetblue and Spirit? Never tried them. Continental? Never flown them to Colombia but have never heard a bad word about Continental in this forum. (Although somebody will now!) Delta from Atlanta? Never tried them. I think, from reading these posts, that, if coming fromm the US, you are best to stick with US flagship carriers and buy your tickets in Colombia at the counter/ticket office. Too many posts here about bad experiences with credit cards at Colombian carrier websites in general. Satena? Aires? No experience with them or Aerorepublica but some of thier websites are slow or are offline or don't work...!? Avianca did have online chat ith an agent which as good. Do they still have that? ACES, which disappeared, seemed to me anyway to be the best experience I had to Colombia or within Colombia. Too bad they went away maybe?

sanandressi comments on The cost of everything in Bogota.

The big thing in Colombia and Latin America is to have your own maid. My ex, whose family is quite poor, even had a poorer maid. Sure, we have cleaning companies in the Unnited States but most of us probably still clean our own places and cook our own food. Many Colombians in Colombia who employ a maid would have to do it themselves here in the United States on their Colombian incomes! LOL Why are costs so high in Bogota? Because it is a big city with lots of people and these people compete for land and housing which raises the cost of everything. Same thing in New York and Los Angeles. Other factors too of course. Miamike makes some excellent points above which is why these so called Free Trade agreements have given us in the US deficits with most countries. Colombia and even Russia will never reach their true potential until the wealth reaches the counntryside and farms and then it goes back to the cities with inexpensive food. When your farmers are FEW and the most productive in the world then you have a first rate society and economy. (Why Argentina has its problems baffles me?) Campesinos in Latin America have little while everybody wants to live in places like north Bogota with security guards. When the poor have more you have more consumers who can buy things and spend. This is what free trade with Mexico was supposed to do yet the Mexicans still run north because the wealth has not reached them all. Maybe I am wrong? Give your maid a raise maybe?

sanandressi comments on Trip Report to Cali

I generally don't post in this forum much anymore because of what happens in the last 5 or 6 posts here. Brians, Miguel Clavo, Justo Mi, and Greg Yohn all start attacking each other and for what I don't know but what was a decent post by Lefty has to get rather nasty and senseless really. Lefty13 started this post and if you don't like it then go back to the PBH home page and read something else if you have nothing constructive to say to Lefty13. How did this post go to a talk on some Phillipina situation and members cheap shooting each other? I did see where ELMO (His nickname "MODEFOQUE" SHOULD HAVE KICKED HIM OUT FROM DAY ONE PETER!) has been kicked out of here? That is a very good start. It takes all kinds of people to make a world so anything said here would not surprise me but if ya got nothing constructive to add and you cannot criticize in a positive manner then why say anything at all? This is why I read here at PBH but generally don't post or respond anymore. LOL and adios.

sanandressi comments on Trip Report to Cali

Lefty 13, you said that some guy on the plane had been going to Colombia for 3.5 years and was bringing a girl north? Was he with this same gal for 3.5 years or just going to Colombia and meeting different ladies for 3.5 years? My point? Take your time with this girl and that would be my advice to ANYBODY thinking of getting a visa for a Colombian. Are you at this point? (I have been through all of this since 1997!) I would never criticize anybody for what they decide what to do or not to do in these types of endeavors but take it slow and get to know this woman that you seem to be smitten with? Do you speak Spanish well and her any English? Spend lots of time with her family because as the parents are so will she be and you will see this in time. Lefty 13, there are too many Colombians trying to get the Visa to go out of Colombia (By my calculations about 1,000 Colombians show up every day Monday through Friday at the US embassy to get some kind of Visa out!) and too many do not realize just how hard it can be to adapt to a different culture. It can be done (Kat1 is our best example!) But many cannot adapt outside of Colombia and you may suffer long term trying to keep someone happy who is not? ( I met two in Cali agencias who went north with a guy and returned because the "did not like snow") You could be happy with her too and then you both have kids? There is nothing wrong with a Colombiana who wants "out" of Colombia but does she really want what you want? Does she want to be a wife and mother and homemaker or does she want to "realizarse" and make lots of money outside of Colombia? If it is wife and homemaker FIRST and job second with time, you have a chance, if you want something long term. Colombians, in my opinion, are very ambitous. I have many a Colombiana who lives here in the US saying they love Colombia but if so then why not go back and stay there? Money and opportunity right? A generalization I know but how come Venezuela does not have the marriage agencias and thousands online trying to meet a first world man? Like Colombia does? Or Peru? Or Ecuador? Why the Colombiana? To me the Colombiana is La mas bella del mundo.....but ya gotta get to know her! Just take your time and I hope it all works out well. She maybe the one for you indeed and I don't want to be negativa mind you...stick with her but take it slow!

kat1, could you change your picure to the one the guy is painting or drawing? It loos like a very nice foto of you...as always.

sanandressi comments on help with airfares :(

Kat1 I was just thiinking about the times I have left El Dorado Airport in Bogota. You know, going through 3 metal detectors and opening my carry on luggage for the soldier and being patted down not to mention the long lines to get my passport stamped by DAS. I stopped to get a burger at Wimpy once and I just managed to slide through Avianca's 757 door as they were closing the thing. OK you had a bad experience on AA but that is life. If you were Shakira maybe you could fly private leer jet? Leaving El Dorado is no more fun then making a connection in Miami. Airplanes break, weather delays...maybe the lads working the tarmac in London will go on strike? Asi es la vida! It is simple really. Either suck it up and pay Air France or Iberia and avoid the US airports or save a few bucks maybe by going via US airports? I think Avianca is going to fly direct to London from Bogota in the future but if BA does not match the service then the fare will be cheaper via Paris and Madrid. Probably? Lack of competition mind you. Did you try Delta/Avianca via Atlanta? They codeshare and maybe have a better fare for you? London Atlanta Bogota. Fares are always high at Christmas. Supply and demand. Just make a decision and buy the ticket and be happy with it Kat!

sanandressi comments on help with airfares :(

So, you want her to connect in either Madrid or Paris and avoid American customs and immigration and get a good price? Well, as Mick Jagger sings "....you don't always get what you want...." but "..if you try real hard.....you get what you need" Although you had a rather poor experience on American in Miami, have you thought of Continental through Houston and on to Bogota? There is a flight from London at 7:00 AM on the 17TH with a 3 hour layover in Houston. If for some reason she misses the 4:00 PM direct Houston to Bogota there is another at midnight. Just a thought for you. Continental is considered to be perhaps the very best United States flagship commercial carrier. Second only to the US Air Force! Jejejejejeje.....

sanandressi comments on help with airfares :(

Kitty Kat, I thought you loved American Airlines? Jejejejejejeje..........London Toronto Bogota on Air Canada? Sound thinking. (What makes you think Canadian immigration will be better than American immigration and customs?) Who flies DIRECT to Bogota from Europe these days anyway? Kat, maybe this Air Comet? www.sidestep.com but I don't know if sidestep works in merry old England then? Have the PM investigate? Maybe she could fly UNITED to Washington and then to Bogota on Avianca? I dunno kat but there has got to be a lot of choices from London town I should think? Pienso yo que una Colombiana tan inteligente, bella y completa COMO TU podria saber ya como resolver todo esto cierto? Suerte de todos modos.

sanandressi comments on Do you want somebody to take you around bogota for Free ?

I always found Bogota to be a fascinating place with lots to see and do.....especially for the first time visitor. Hey futix13, you want to take people around for free? You are suffering from one extreme case of decency indeed!

sanandressi comments on Requirements for the civil marriage of a Colombianita with a foreign man (or vice versa, of course)

Unless you live in Colombia like Bill Turley I would NOT recommend marrying a woman in Colombia. Don't know if England has it but get her a FIANCE Visa and give her a trial period before deciding to marry. Oh well, to each their own!

sanandressi comments on Avianca - disgusting

Airline tickets online can change in price very quickly. Clear your COOKIES from your computer? Would this help? BTW Is there anything in the proposed Free Trade Agreement that would address this two tier pricing system? Would your Congressman care? I dunno...just a thought. It has always been accepted that you are better off buying in country travel tickets in Colombia and not from outside of the country. I prefer American to Colombia or Continental. (Lan Chile from Miami is great if you can work it in your schedule!) Aces was a good carrier back in the day.

sanandressi comments on Are gringos good for Colombia

It was definitely a loss for the United States when KAT1 went to England instead of the United States. Suspiros! How will we survive? LOL

sanandressi comments on Married in Colombia and Direct Consul Apply question for marriage Visa to USA...

my advice for you would be to cancel the wedding in Colombia and get her a K-1 Fiance Visa and bring her to Miami for a trial period. You can always return to Cartagena for a big wedding later if she loves you friend? Unless you really know this woman.........??????? Your call obviously.....what happens if Miami is not what she expects? Has she been there before? Good luck with your decisions.....

sanandressi comments on So many smart people here good to see it.

Amen! I say the same thing about Latino immigrants to the Unnited States and gringolandia. If you come here to work and OBEY THE LAW and maybe learn English and become a citizen then welcome. For those who come here to sell drugs and steal and use the race card and abuse welfare and bitch and complain then go home! LOL LOL LOL This post sounds like an anti GRINGO post to me! PS McDonald's? Why should not McDonalds corporation put a store everywhere on the globe? Same with Coca Cola. We have every make and model of foreign automobile on our US roads and nobody complains. If you hate MacDees then just avoid it like I do. YUCK! LOL Eating that junk when you could be eating tamales...jejejejejee

Yes Gator and this is too bad because those that really do just want to visit are rejected because so many have not returned. Anyway, I know a gal who has been to France and tried to get the tourist visa but was rejected. I guess the embassy told her to travel outside of Colombia in South America and then re-apply. A sort of proof that one has left Colombia and will return? I dunno...? It could just depend on whether that State Department FSO is having a good day and feels like handing out visas? LOL
