Dollar up over 1700, shown currently at 1709. But I'm sure this is just a dead cat bounce on it's way to 1400...
JJ logistics won't ship to Cartagena. Avianca Express wants 2.10 a lb, then 29% of the value of the packages. In this case, I'm trying to ship two LCD televisions, value of about 1500 dollars, so that is a hefty price tag. AB Xpress wants 3.00 a lb, then 15%... Any suggestions? I shopped around for TV's in Cartagena last month, the prices in the US are still about half of colombia's... ...
Made the round trip a couple weeks ago with friends. No problems worth mentioning, actually a lot quicker than Avianca during the check in process. Will fly them again for my next trip, knocks about 400 dollars of the total price. ...
Starting the long climb back to 2500....?
I've been trying for the last week or so to send a package to Colombia with Servientrega in Miami. I've done this a few times before and had no problem, however this time it hasn't been so easy. The "Beatriz" we are all familiar with from before apparently doesn't work there...? My spanish is only "intermediate" at best, and this has been a real struggle. They'll answer the phone one minute, then it'll ring unanswered the next. They don't seem to suffer the non espanol speaking gringos happil ...
I have recently purchased an apartment in Cartagena. This was over the 100,000 needed for an "Investor" visa. I currently have a Rentista visa and an opened bank account at CitiBank in Cartagena. What advantages or disadvantages would come with the Investor Visa? Someone said it costs 375.00, what would I gain? And what about the taxes, would I pick up tax obligations to Colombia that I normally would not have with the Rentista visa? ...
I'm getting closer to buying an apartment in Cartagena. One of the questions I have is how I will go about furnishing it? I'll need everything, beds, sofa, dining room, TV, refrigerator, lamps, lines, dishes, towels etc. What is the best way to accomplish this? Just head to Exito with credit card in hand? ...
I searched and have seen from posts about lodging in Manizales, but had a question. I know this brands myself as overly gringo, but do any of these places have hot water? I've become accustomed to the tepid showers in Cartagena, but I'm not looking forward to anything colder than that... Also, is a jacket or sweater really necessary at night? It looks like the temperature gets down to like 60 degrees at night... I'd kill for 60 degrees right about now in Chicago... ...
All, I just priced a round trip ticket, Miami to Cartagena, for early March. Was quoted a price of 688.00, both online and with the sales department. What the hell? The most I ever paid before was like 528.00, why the big increase? Have any of the cheaper airlines started their service to colombia? There has to be a better way! ...
Anyone know for sure the exact dates yet? I'm trying to plan a trip and want to avoid that time due to higher lodging costs. Thanks in advance!
Forum, Isn't there another airline that flys from Cartagena to Medellin? I'm really sick of Avinunca... How do you guys get back and forth between the two cities?
Forum, My novia is looking for an apartment or room to live in Cartagena. Is there anyplace online to look at listings, or should she just look in the local paper there? I'd like to have some input into where she stays, i.e. safe, etc. Any tips or ideas? ...
without a cedula? I'm pretty sure someone said it could be done. (Hunter?)
If you know how to do this, please let me know. If I can save the hassle (!) and cost of another visa, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance. ...
I would think not, but I had to ask. I'm going to need to visit them ASAP in August, but I fly into CTG on a Friday afternoon. Monday may really squeeze me on time...
I think in another post I saw Bank of America can transfer to an account at Banco Colombia. Do you know of any other US Banks with links to Colombia Banks?

Forum,
Once again I am pondering buying an aprtment in Cartagena. Prices have doubled since I first started looking and did not pull the trigger. I hate to think about a few of the deals I passed on, but that's history now.
I would appreciate any advice in this area, I know some posters here have bought properties and know the ins and outs. How would you go about it (step by step) if ...
We've discussed the best ways to learn spanish, can anyone recommend books or CD's for a colombiana to best learn english?

I'll be flying into Cartagena, staying one night, then flying out the next day. Can someone recommend a hotel or apartment near the airport? I do not want to stay in bocagrande or centro for logistical and other reasons.
I have a map of cartagena, and it has four hotels on the map closest to the airport: Marbella, BellaVista, Del Mar, Mira Mar. Anyone know of these places?
I suppose I can just get in a taxi that day and walk up to apartment buildings and ask, but I like to have thi ...
I'm looking to replace the cell phone that the police in cartagena stole from me on my last trip. It was a quad band phone, so I could use it with any SIM card. Comcel seems to be the network of choice for most of my friends in colombia. Buying a quad band really limits my choices.
Will a GSM Tri-Band be just as good? I saw this on the internet:
Colombia
The following networks operate in this country/area:
Colombia Movil SA (Tigo)
GSM 1900

I'm planning a trip to San Andres with my novia de cartagena. Does she need a passport to get there? Or will her cedula and an old fat bald gringo with cowboy hat, belt buckle and boots be suficiente?
I just got my statement from my last trip. My bank (CHASE) has started adding a 3% charge on top of the 1.50 per ATM transaction. Not too happy about that...
Which card do you recommend for use in ATM's in Colombia? ...
What phone cards do you prfer to call colombia?
I had been happy with "Pingo" for the last couple years, but lately they're horrible. Dropped calls, fail to connect, they can't hear me, I can't hear them, etc.
Who has the 411? ...
I seem to recall the last time I saw this topic that the consensus was to use Servientrega in Miami...?
Does any one have recent experience doing this?
Thanks in advance!
Can anyone suggest the best way to send flowers or gifts to Colombia for Valentines day? This has been discussed before, but I was hoping for an updated list. I used regalosdecolombia.com before, but it seems kind of expensive now. y soy un HJP barato :-) ...
Looking for an apartment or ? to rent for 3 days in early march, prefer rodadero. Solo mi novia y yo.
Just wondering if it's ok to bring electronics in to Colombia. I bought a car CD player for a friend of mine in Cartagena, and was just planning on putting it in my suitcase. The unit is still in the box. Will there be any problems doing that?
Seems like it'd be ok, but just double checking... ...
Does anyone know the specific date(s) for this years event?
I've searched all over the internet and can find no schedule. I know it's like a two week span, maybe the first two weeks in November?

Looking for a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment to rent in Cartagena. Dates of June 23 - July 3. Prefer hot water, washer and dryer a huge plus if available. Neither required, just preferences.
Forum,
I'd like to have my novia de barranquilla accompany me to St.Martin. The travel agency in Colombia I obtained limited info from indicated she could do this without needing a visa, only a passport. My problem is finding which airline(s) she would fly on, etc.
Obtaining good information is a little harder for me porque mi espanol es pobre.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
Most of the air search engines have her taking numerous flights to get to St. Martin. O ...
Forum,
I have a cell phone I'd like to use in Colombia, it's a Motorola MPX200.
It's billed as a GSM, however I've heard that some of the MPX200's are only 1800/1900.
If this is the case, will this phone work with any carrier in Cartagena/Barranquilla?
(OLA? BellSouth? COMCEL?)
I know I'll need a new SIM card, and it is completely unlocked.
Thanks in advance! ...
Looking for an apartment for one or two nights in late November. At least two bedrooms in a nice neighborhood.

Forum,
Read this about Santa Marta:
Robert Young Pelton's "the World's Most Dangerous Places", page 463: "Santa Marta. The North end of town and the Rodadero Beach areas are extremely dangerous. Do not travel alone into these areas. Daylight armed robberies of tourists are commonplace. Thieves will often relieve their victims of their clothes as well as all other valuables."
Just curious as I'm planning a trip to Santa Marta soon. The book was published in 2000, so maybe th ...
Forum,
I'm sketching out an itinerary for my Nov-Dec trip to Colombia.
I'm tentatively planning on including 2 or 3 days in Santa Marta or Taganga. (This will be between Nov. 15 and Dec. 15 so it's "low" season.)
Does anyone have any recomendations for hotels in the area? It's next to impossible to find anything but the names of hotels on the internet when it comes to travel in this area. I've read some travel blogs about "roughing it" in the area, but I'm not sure I can do ...
Forum,
A friend and I will be in Cartagena from Feb 2-13. We want to have working cell phones with us for the trip. My friend will be going to the Barranquilla carnival as well the weekend of the 4-8th.
My question is, what is the best way to do this? Bring our own phones? I know they have to be unlocked, this is not a problem. I can also buy a cell phone cheap that is dual band, both 850 and 1900. How much does a "SIM" card cost, and what the heck is it? Just some code numbers you ...
