Congratulations!

saddlespur comments on My 1st experience driving in Colombia

Thanks for the pictures! My first few visits I rented a car out of Pereira. The cost was crazy high. Couple that with tolls, fuel, tipping folks for thinking they need to help you park...I finally learned my lesson and take the taxi and occasional bus. Wow! dropped the costs from about $75 a day to about $10-$15...and no hassle!

Be a great adventure none the less...

saddlespur comments on non-profit - to give or not to give.

My eyes glossed over too...I think I know how others feel when I start a long winded thread ;)

saddlespur comments on Can somone point me in the right direction? Part 2

I find it hard to believe one man through letter writing & claiming to the parishioners if they did not "Follow him, they were not following God." From your post it sounds like it was about money and control of what should have beens Gods work and not two grown men quarreling over the control. I suggest you instead of offering a story over the internet of a presumed religious travesty. You get on your knees with what congregation you have left and ask for God to have his will within the walls of the ministry and each of your lives. Pray for leadership and sound judgement pertaining to your own actions. If you concentrate and put effort on doing good works being a blessing to others heart & souls. I think the riches your seeking will be stored up and enjoyed in the kind of abundance you can not count. If you have put your faith in needing the money to clean up Cali. Maybe your prayers have been answered and this church in Cali was the first to get cleaned up.

saddlespur comments on what is the Most Hassle Free Colombian Airport to arrive in?

Pereira is easy to get through...they are strict about you being early when you depart.

Absolutely crazy the terrorist groups in Colombia. I try to understand, but can make no real sense of it all. I think about Princess Diana and her efforts to rid the world of land mines. She focused much of her efforts across the pond. From what I am learning, Colombia has the most estimated land mines in use in the world. To bad she didn't shine a light in Colombia before her untimely passing.

saddlespur comments on How to make your Colombian wife happy (Humor)

Don't block the mirror, purses & shoes...

saddlespur comments on some advice pls :(

First try to be honest with your husband. Tell him what you've said here. Don't tell him you think he doesn't love you, tell him what you see, I.E. no communication, convenience marriage, etc. After you're completely honest and if he chooses not to communicate, you can formulate your next steps honestly, decisively and in the open. I would forget about the guy in Colombia until you have your "house" in order. Right now your daughter should be number 1 and by both of your actions she's only in position to go for whatever emotional ride you and her father take her on. It's time to be a parent, not a confused stray in the arms of another man. Sorry to be so blunt, your daughter and a home thats in emotional order should be your priority. Why would you want to add more crap onto crap. Clean your mess up...then move on with or without your husband.

Just visiting they mention "don't be a mule coming back home" and they believe you'll get kidnapped. My family said they wouldn't charge the kidnapping Colombians to much to return me to the states! ;(

I've had good luck with UPS. I've got it there in as fast as two days before. No experience with FedEx. I found from experience DHL is too expensive.

Believe it or not I couldn't get cream for my coffee anywhere we stopped or in the house. I stopped and bought a bottle at the store. My wife took it out of her purse at her mothers house while making my coffee. Her mother in Spanish asked what it was. My wife told her in English it's called "p#ssy". That whole trip I had my 70 year Suegra asking if I wanted "p#ssy" with my coffee. It was hilarious!!

saddlespur comments on The cycle of "abuse" continues

I broke that habit with my wife and son. He now must clean his room, make the bed, do his OWN homework, pickup after himself. In other words he must be more self sufficient, contribute to helping others & himself and earn his allowance. I've told my wife in a few years he'll be doing his own laundry and learning to cook. He's 14 now and had no clue on how to care for himself. He was waited on hand and foot by his mother & grandmother. He has a much better attitude and is more respectful to others now then when he first hit the states.

saddlespur comments on Money from Colombia to the UK OR USA

Try PayPal....believe it or not it's cheaper than Western Union here in the states. It offers service to and from Colombia. https://www.paypal.com/

saddlespur comments on skype for blackberry

Here's the rates and the restricted countries you can call. I say restricted in jest solely because Colombia is not offered at this time. http://share.skype.com/sites/us/2008/04/skypes_unlimited_calling_to_34.html Here's the link for your Blackberry using Windows. http://www.skype.com/download/skype/windowsmobile/

saddlespur comments on Buying a Cab?

Think outside the box...Instead of having employee's become a company that sells taxi's. By this I mean figure out what do you want to make on your initial investment. Spread that out over time in affordable payments the "New Business Owner" can afford and still eek out a living. Let them be responsible for insurance, fuel and repairs. They pay you, you peel off your cut, and you pay the bills. You can have a per day minimum they must pay,(per 8 hours), to you from the services they render with your investment. You can require the vehicle is parked with you anytime it is not generating cash. Don't get fenced in that you must conduct business the same as everyone else. It is an investment, you are looking for a return and not a taxi...right? Get you a viable plan together and go for it!! Good luck and all the best!!

saddlespur comments on It's about 6 farenheit in Chicago, will be in colombia in 3 weeks

I grew up just outside Chicago. I don't miss the cold, but when I see your getting hammered by the snow...I miss that for a few minutes ;)

saddlespur comments on Betancourt downplays "cover-up" Chávez-FARC relations

She is a kook. She would better serve Colombia if she was still held captive.

saddlespur comments on

My money was never any good in Colombia. They demanded to pay for everything whenever family was involved.

saddlespur comments on Requirements for a Colombian nurse to be licensed in the USA

Yea it's hard to believe our situation is the same bad news. A four year university degree and four years of working experience is worthless here in the states.

saddlespur comments on Mexico vs. Colombia -- Need advice

Depending on your age...$2,000 doesn't seem like much to take yourself out of the working environment. Inflation through the years should make that amount look and feel even smaller. Imagine trying to supplement that later in life with no working skills to bring to the table? Then again I'm relating your soon to be situation with the lifestyle I enjoy. Personally I'd have to at least double that each month so I could save as much as I spend.

saddlespur comments on Colombiano(a) and foreigner met each other - true life accounts

HOW did happen? Met online on a Mexican site?!?...I never thought Colombia as an option. I saw her picture and knew I had to know her. - HOW did you develop the relationship? A Lot of emails and MSN video chat. After my first visit to her in Colombia, I knew this woman was the one. Many trips to Colombia later we married in Manizales. - WHAT is the situation right now? We share a home and our lives in America. I bought my home in 2001 and though it is nice I hated it. It's only feature was convenience. My wife has made our home a place I want to always be. Our home has become a great source to recharge my mindset and goals. Feels like a slice of Heaven now!! - HOW do you view the future? (do you have any projects) We want to travel and explore America about five years more. We hope to open a business in Colombia thereafter and keep a home in both countries.

saddlespur comments on RECENTLY DEPORTED

Sell books electronically downloaded via ebay. Sell other merchandise that you don't touch that ships from the states. Cut and paste, yadda, yadda, yadda.

saddlespur comments on Colombia: New Car Prices From Hell

If some people have to worship a mythical hoax that the science community can't even agree upon...I'll stay in Georgia. I would like to know though, since you know these things...What should the temperature on earth be? What is normal? Since man has been tracking this data for a hundred plus years, and earth is probably at least 200 years old. How does your math equate into what is "normal" and what is "normal"? Enlighten me, make me feel as guilty as you. After we blame cars and trucks, what's next? Next? Next?

saddlespur comments on Colombia: New Car Prices From Hell

Sloop you still believing that hyped up mumbo jumbo?

saddlespur comments on Visa time table from PBH members..

Thanks RJ. Did you depart for the states with your bride or did you come back for her at a later date? Is it wise to book the return tickets a week after the interview?

saddlespur comments on Gee, ANY positive stories about Colombians staying home

Funny topic. I never had met before my girlfriend and still have not met one Colombian that wants to "get out", this includes my girlfriend. She is just as proud of Colombia as I am of America.

saddlespur comments on money advice/atm

I personally did not get the Bank Charges. I notified my bank where I was traveling and I only used ATM's outside of banks. No service charges ever showed up on my statement.

saddlespur comments on

I've spent about 15 days in and around Pereira and Manizales this year. It's not much time, but I never had the feeling I was in danger. Everyone was courtious and nice. Like anywhere you don't flaunt what others might want. I enjoy this area and hope to buy property there soon.

Why would you want anything about you associated with a lie? No self respect? I don't understand the mentality of lying to illustrate a point. What's the difference between you and your Fox propaganda. Are we to believe your telling the truth now?
