RUV comments on room for rent el Poblado I stayed in one of Andrew apartment's from http://www.theapartmentmedellin.com". I got a really good deal. The apartment was nice. It belong to an Italian guy (I think). I also stayed at the Black Sheep. It was great for what it was. Well worth the money. This may not be for all travelers, but perfect at the time I went. I would stay at his place again. Kelvin, you need to update "places to vist and my favorites" on your website. Thanks. ; ) I did some research before going to Colombia. I found some good stuff on here. I was also suprise to find lots of good stuff on Black Sheep's web site. Kelvin has a collection of good information.

RUV comments on wireless internet options in Envagado (no cable or phone available) Sandman, I was thinking the same thing. RUV comments on Who pays maintanace on a rented apartment? Your landlord sounds like he is cheap. Image who used to live there before and who has a key. Change the locks on all your doors. Then do what Mr Anderson suggested. Who cares what he thinks after words it is not like he will hold your deposit. I guess in the future, you should have all this in writing. Good Luck,

RUV comments on Who pays maintanace on a rented apartment? Change the lock your self. It is easy to do so. Besides, this way you know that you will be the only one with the key.

RUV comments on North Star Backpackers Hostel Just some suggestion. One, you need to put more pictures of your hostal on your site. Two, your price structure is a little confusing. Clean it up. What else can you tell us about the services you offer. Your website is very basic. The guys at Black Sheep where very helpful when I was there. Bus schedules, laundry, Wifi, beer, and conversation.

RUV comments on Riding Colombia Cindy, Can you post some pictures? Sounds like a fun way to travel around Colombia. It looks a little scary driving around in a motorcyle. Seems like everytime I have went to Colombia I have seen at least one Motorcyle accident. Then again, in Colombia there may be more motorcycles in Colombia them most places I have been. Thank you for your post.

RUV comments on Bringing Money to Colombia Larry, What is the foreign transaction fee? Is it 3 percent of the purchased price? I checked with American and they said it is 3 percent of the charge after the conversion. If I did my math correctly that would be 300 dollars. Ouch.
|
|
RUV comments on Bringing Money to Colombia I was thinking the same thing. That is allot to have in your apartment. Also, at that rate you will have to do withdrawls around 20 to 25 times. That may create other issue where someone is watching you withdrawl that money over and over. Good Luck,

RUV comments on San gil/Macondo latest Carter, Nice web site. I have been wanting to go to San Gil for a while. That looks like my next stop. I think your youtube link is bad. I used this one and it worked: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cb-iBk9UV7g With the long hair you kind of blend in while you walked through the trees. Thanks,

RUV comments on How much Japanese should I speak when traveling to Japan? Depends where you go. I go around most of the populated areas in and around Tokyo with no problems. The train system is old but great. The train stops are labled in English. Outside in some of the rural areas English is not used and you have to rely on kanji. English is a very popular second language. Lots of Japanese either understand it or know it. The problem is that many do not want to use it with strangers. It is amazing how older adults will shy away when asked something in English. The trick here is to ask a teenager or a kid. They will go out of there way to help. I even had police men do the same. There are plenty of maps in the train stops, especially the major stops. You can also print them out. There are specials for train for tourist. Here are some helpful links: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2016.html As for odering food. There are a couple of things. We sometimes get lucky and have an English speaking waiter (this has not happen to often). There are some resturants that have picture menus. I even taken Japanese friends and have them order. We sometimes go sit down order a beer, go to the bathroom, as we walk to the bathroom we find something that looks good and ask the waiter to bring it. Not in the bathroom. There is no tipping in Japan. In most part, prices are labled on almost everything in the store. If you normally do not like Japanese food (raw food) if you look around you will find something to your taste. Indian food in Japan is really good. The Korean BBQ are great. Japan can be a little scary, with all the people and large buildings but If you plan your trip you should be fine. Good Luck,

RUV comments on How do i explore south america? Argentina, Buenas Aires, other cities around there. Aviod the rainy season. I suggest you take a large some what empty suit case and buy stuff there. Cheap cashmire, leather goods, and other stuff. Leather shoes are inexpensive. If I can find it I will email you the address of the leather district. Also rent an apartment there, lots of them available and inexpensive, just do a google and you will find some. There are some PBH posters in Argentina. Then start moving north. Selecting the countries and cities you want to go. I really suggest you plan this ahead of time. You do not want to be carrying to much luggage and get stuck with no place to stay. I also agree with Robert. Good luck.

RUV comments on Camping in Bogota ? I went to Rio Claro, they have camp sites, hostals and hotel. http://www.rioclaroelrefugio.com/servicios.html I think it is around 4 to 6 hours from Bogota. I came from Medellin and it was around 3-4 hours via car. It is more fun if you go in a group. Water rafting, tubing, kayak, cave explorering, cable rides, and other stuff to be had. I think San Gil maybe better. You can check it out. Good luck.

RUV comments on Camping in Colombia I saw three options in RIO claro, the personal huts (bed, tv, shower, closer to a hotel), option two is a (bed, kind of like a hostal, open air rooms, with shared bathrooms) and then there is the camp grounds (seems like the showers and bathrooms are provided). Nice place, I recommend going as a group. More fun. You need a guide to do the rafting, cave exploreing, canopy zip rides, and a couple of other things. You may want to ask, they may only offer them during weeked.

RUV comments on Guatape Tour I went in November during the week with a friend. We drove there. It was dead. I stayed downtown, in one of the small hotels by the church. I think this is more of a holiday or weekend location. MD post info on your trip there. I am interested in going again.
