Rowdy Yates comments on Is America turning Against the US?

Ok so let me see if I understand this? The terrorists somehow coordinated an effort with George Bush to bring down the WTC? Or was it actually Secret Service personel who hijacked the planes and then committed suicide flying them into buildings? Not to mention the pure lack of capacity to pull off such a plan. So the pilots of the planes knew exactly what floor the explosives were on and flew the planes perfectly into those floors? Upon succeeding in such a monumental task they did not disturb any of the blasting cords or explosives that were put in place upon impact? The fire that burned on and on did not ignite the explosives? The way the WTC was constructed led to it being brought down by these planes exploding and burning for a period of time. Sounds much more logical than anything these nuts have come up with. God help us if there are people in this world who can not put simple facts like this together and recognize obvious crappola. We are in a lot of trouble. More questions? Just when exactly did George Bush install these explosives in sufficient amounts to bring down a building of this size? During office hours? No one noticed them loading in explosives? Ok after hours? No one on the maintenance or security staff thought it odd that people were going up with boxes and installing primer cord to connect them throughout the floors? Maybe it was the firemen that went into the building? Maybe they took the explosives up there and then blew themselves up? Yea, yea that is it.

Rowdy Yates comments on Is America turning Against the US?

Spelling Colombia with a U in the US? An interesting subject...Certainly more interesting than all the stereotyping and US bashing above. The speling of Christopher Columbus with a U is the anglo way of spelling his name and it is this person that both Colombia and Columbia University, Columbia the city in SC are named after. The Colombia we know is named after the same person but with an Italian spelling of his name which is Cristoforo Colombo. I think it could be argued that one could spell correctly Colombia with a U in the US being that both spellings have there origins in the same person. The spelling of the United States has certainly been adapted to a Spanish spelling and not the anglo spelling you see in the US. So why would the people in the US not be able to do the same to Colombia? Use the anglo spelling of Colombia which is Columbia?

Rowdy Yates comments on Is America turning Against the US?

Here is the point they just can not get. They back the US into a corner and say OK what are you going to do about all our problems? The US steps into the trap and actually does something and then it does not go exactly the way they want and they blame it all on the US emperialism. Or it does go well for someone and not someone else so they take up the side of the someone else and the whole plan helped no one and only led to spread US emperialism. Then they wonder how they get the label as antiamerican? The only way the US can win in this is if they do like Europe does, who have already learned this lesson and that is set back and debate the issue. Act concerned and make some nice speaches to that effect, offer to help but never give it. This way you give the appearance of caring but not stepping into the trap. Of course in the case of Rwanda and some other examples millions of people die due to the innaction. Action leads to the measure of perfection. No one ever asks what if there was no action? What would have happened had the US done nothing? This never gets addressed. In the case of Colombia I will tell you what would have happened if Plan Colombia never happened. If the US had never acted to help Uribe, Colombia. We would still be dealing with kidnappings and bombings and too afraid to travel our roads, visit our farms, contribute to any form of economic growth for fear of being extorted or kidnapped. Thank God those days are gone for the most part. Thank God, Uribe and the US! So they ask is SA turning against America? If they are complete fools they will. The US is the Papa and that is the way it is so it is best to go with it if your smart. The benefits far out weight the alternatives at the moment anyway.

Rowdy Yates comments on Is America turning Against the US?

I got your number Maninred. Don't worry I am not sweating you at all. I addressed the issues as much as anyone did above. The posts above were not addressing issues but expressing a certian idiology, I responded in kind. But as usual you can not handle a difference in opinion, idiology, way of thinking. Savy what that is? Fascism. Like we don't know what that is in South America. My guess is your young enough to think it is something new.

Rowdy Yates comments on Is America turning Against the US?

There are two sides to this issue. It looked to me that your side had made its point known. I wanted it to be clear what side I was on. In typical form when anyone stands up against your antiamerican laced opinions you label them as being defensive or you launch an attack directed at them and not the issue. I find that interesting since if I am being defensive then you must be being offensive. Isn't that how the game is played? The point is your positions are so easily exposed for what they are it is hardly worth my effort. If you can not handle a difference of opinion then perhaps you should not post that crapola on a public website? Maybe you would be better off under the political protection of a government that will protect your opinion and deal harshly with anyone that dissagrees with it. I think you would be happier like this. You should head on down to Cuba or Venezuala with your opinions, they offer that sort of protection for them.

Rowdy Yates comments on Is America turning Against the US?

It is interesting that you all seem to claim the US is some emperialist bully yet you hold them and them alone responsible for everything that happens. It must be difficult for them to solve all the worlds problems without appearing to some to be an imperialistic bully. Countries in SA that have turned against the US have no responsiblitity for that action what so ever. You put all the responsibility for it in the hands of the US and all the responsiblity for making it better in the hands of the US and then you wonder why the US appears to be the bully. Furthermore the countries in SA that as you put it "have turned against the US" is it possible they have done so to take the eye off their own governments shortcommings? When does Chavez take responsibility for wrecking the economy of Venezuala or will it simply be the fault of the US? I beleive that whatever actions these countries will take in your minds does not bring any responsibility to them. They just can blame the US and you join in the party. Meanwhile the countries in SA that have good relations with the US are doing the best in SA. You somehow skipped over that fact. Have you been to Chile lately? They have a free trade agreement with the US and have had for some time and that country is benefiting from it. Colombia has one of the best economies in SA. So here you are posting on a Colombian site who has a good relationship with the US. Why don' t you go over and post your antiamerican propoganda on a Venezuala site? Furthermore why don't you go live in one of those countries on your list? Venezuala, Argentina, Ecuador, Bolivia? You can set around and blame the US for all your troubles and you will have plenty of time to do so since I doubt you will be working. My guess is most of you are benefiting from the US being in power in one form or another just like the rest of the world has. But if you don't like that then you should make a statement with your life and go live somewhere where they don't like that or have not beenfited. It will not be China as they have benefiting emensly from the US. Try Cuba or Venezuala, oh wait no Venezuala gets the lions share of its income from selling to the US. Try again, Cuba is nice. What urks me is I am here in Colombia wanting to benefit from a relationship with the US and people like the ones above are most likely setting in Miami or somewhere in their US based jobs. They are trying to convince me that I should go against the US and follow some idealistic hate journey of the US like some SA countries have done. Follow who? Chavez? Sorry I would like for my family to keep their jobs and have a future just like your families do.

Rowdy Yates comments on Colombia is ranked second in South America by HIV population

I seem to recall reading in some UN report that it was very high here among married women. Husbands engaged in male on male sex passing it along to their wives. The bottom line is package your meat before you hit the heat.

Rowdy Yates comments on Stuck with pesos

You could go to your local Latin food place, convenience store where they do everything from sell phone cards to tranfer money. A lot of these are Colombian owned. You can tell them you have those pesos and at an exchange rate worth someones while to change and you will probably be able to change them there with someone who is returning to Colombia. Say 1500 to 1.

Pedro, my name is not Gib. So what exactly do you expect from your rude behavior? A kiss?

Rowdy Yates comments on

"Maybe you just feel that you are special or extraordinary because you are a gringo walking around with a latina. I see a lot of that here...guys who think they are the shit because they are gringo and have a pretty girl, and they THINK everyone cares." Big Texas. This is how I see it as well. Why they are looking at you most likely. There is a difference between a Colombian who works and lives here paying for it and a gringo blowing in and paying for it. I can not help you if you feel there is no difference. This site should have a special section. Call it the "Dick Tracy" section where all these detectives can go and speculate on who is really who. Or maybe they could just get a life? I am Medablado remember?

Rowdy Yates comments on

Yes OK drug tourists who get robbed makes me happy as well. That should do for now. Your in our country. We have our way of dealing with these issues. If you want the sex tourist industry to be debated and understood then you should got to NY. Here we will deal with that in our own way.

Rowdy Yates comments on

Getting dirty looks with your Colombiana. Maybe the locals are seeing something that you are not? You are in their culture not the other way around. If your standing out then maybe it is for a reason other than the gringo invassion? Maybe the people know your girl? Does she have a habbit of dating gringos? Is she always talking about gringo friends and ex gringo novios? If not then who knows? If so then I can imagine why they are looking. Be careful. I recommend you make some Colombian friends and find out why they are giving you dirty looks. As far as a hotel full of sex tourists getting robbed I say, WELL DONE! You can expect to see more of this kind of thing with little investigation from the police. You see Colombians don't like the gringo comming and slobbering all over their prepagos.

Rowdy Yates comments on Perception of the white-looking foreign female or "gringa" en Colombia

The Caracol series on abandoned Plan Colombia babies I watched last night is not going to help with the perception of gringos.

Rowdy Yates comments on Colombia will launch sattelites

I wish Colombia would stop playing this "we don't want the drug trade" game. Does anyone think for a second that the political powers here and the wealthy class are not kneck deep in the drug trade? It is billions of dollars after all. So where are these billions of dollars? Do we have some dirty narco standing in the jungle spending billions of dollars? Por favor... What you have is the rich getting richer and if anyone beleives this satalite will be used for drug interdiction? I got a bridge to sell them. You can not even make a phone call here without wandering who else is on the line with you and that is technology that came here to fight the supposed "war on drugs". So do we really need a satalite that can look down and see us leaving our house? Colombia can begin it's exploration right here by exploring people who have no homes, no food and no future. Do something about that and then go play in space. Colombia has a responsibility to its people first and this does not serve the Colombian people. So it is more of the same, the poor here get their help from people outside Colombia while the rich like to pretend they are in the space race. Mierda. Celebrate it if you want but you will not find me joining in.

Rowdy Yates comments on Colombia will launch sattelites

I think they will pay someone to launch the sats. I have not seen a launching pad for rockets in Colombia, only for visa hunting Colombiana's...http://agencyscams.com/ I always get a kick out of these articles. We can't even build a high rise in Cartegena without having to tear it down for fear of the wind blowing it over but oh yea we are gonna build a rocket and launch a Colombian satalite.

Rowdy Yates comments on Beware Brunati furniture

In Colombia you go to where the guy is making the furniture and you buy it. Those places with sawdust on the floors and drills in hand. Once making that contact they usually can direct you where to buy their furniture. Otherwise you run the risk of getting a bunch of made in China crap. You can not trust the larger chain stores, buy direct whenever possible.

Rowdy Yates comments on Moving to Colombia with criminal records- Help.

You could send in your fingerprints to the FBI for a background check. If it comes back clean then you will be ok for your visa.

Rowdy Yates comments on Hit Colombian TV series breaks cocaine taboo

Can I say maybe we are a bit hypocritical. We are offended when forigners identify Colombians/Colombia as narco central, etc. Yet the number one TV show in Colombia is just that? Huh?

Rowdy Yates comments on Small restaurant for sale in Medellin

You can have your CCTV cameras, mic wired right to your house through the phone line and pull it up on your TV while channel surfing. If you have a business I recomend this. It is great to pull it up and check on a delivery or on your employees, how many customers are on site, etc.

Rowdy Yates comments on Small restaurant for sale in Medellin

30K? in central Bogota you can buy them for 18,000 all you can carry.

Rowdy Yates comments on need to hire someone with a truck in Bogotá

they usually ask for a 30 or a 60 minimum. Way overkill for what you want. I seem to recall but I could be wrong that taxexpress offered something. 411-1111

Rowdy Yates comments on Small restaurant for sale in Medellin

spig I just saw your post. Typically the asking price is absent the prima so it is most likely 30 plus the prima which could be like you say or could be a lot more? So really we don't know if it overpriced or not since we don't know what the prima is. But I would venture to guess if the prima is absent this price it is overpriced. So like you said about half that would be fair, depending on the prima which we do not know. Unless of course it is a booming business and then the question is why do you sell a booming business? I don't have a lot of restaurant experience but seems like a place like this it would be difficult to get away with registering it Regimen Simplificado? Bottom line is start a new business.

Rowdy Yates comments on need to hire someone with a truck in Bogotá

For something like that you could try calling the taxi company. All you need is a pickup truck.

Rowdy Yates comments on Small restaurant for sale in Medellin

We are just pissing in the wind here if we are trying to get specific. There is not enough information to determine anything let alone prima which could be the hooker. We don't know why he is selling? How much time he has been in business? What his books looks like? What the rent is? Why he is selling? Why he is selling? Before I would even think about buying this place I would spend a lot of days camped out drinking coffee and watching the customer flow. As far as formula there is no formula for prima, there is no formula for price. Asking these questions you really have no business going into business here. You should already know the variables that come into play for figuring a businesses value of which here there are MANY. You are going to have to negotiate some business deals here to get a feel for what is fair. Often times if it is a good business you will be negotiating prima with a guy who feels his business is the greatest thing in the world. So you have the 30 plus the prima, you do realize that right? In buying a business here prima is usually where I get stopped dead in my tracks in the deal. What their perception their business is worth is not always it's actual value, your really paying for their customer base which is a fickle thing. Sometimes it is better to start a new one, in fact I recomend it. Be sure to know your customer base. If it is in an upper estrata make sure you go all out to make it appear new, nice and clean and bright. In the lower estratos you can start up with much less but can not make that business model work in an upper estrato. This seems to be the most popular error in local business models. Good luck! PS Forget about nearly everything you know about business from the US it won't be much help here.

Rowdy Yates comments on Night walk in hot Bogotá

Looks like fun to me. Anytime Colombians get together for anything it is a good time!

Rowdy Yates comments on Small restaurant for sale in Medellin

I was thinking about 2 million a month NET as well. The thing is that rent is going through the roof! I suspect that if you were to sign a new lease you would be in big trouble as today the rent does not allow you to run a profitable business. So if he owns the local perhaps he would like to become a landlord as he has discovered more profit in that and less hassle. If not you will need to negotiate the contract comming with the business which might be difficult to do, if not impossible. With the price of rent increasing 200% or so in the last couple years and prices not increasing that much now is a hard time to start a business here. The people who are surviving in business today here are people who have gone into the business 3 or more years ago when rent was cheap or paid a good price. By law they can not jack the price of rent but only by a small percentage each year. But, they can pull the "new tenant shuffle" in whatever form and lock you into a lease that will make it impossible to survive. They then will be comming after your security deposit whatever that may be when you fold up. They usually ask for a lot in the security deposit since this is exactly what their plan is. They know what the business makes and know you will not make the rent increase so they just wait to take your property or whatever you used as security. There are a few of these types near my house. Rent for this local 3 years ago was 700K a month. they were purchased for nothing so the landlord can afford to wait on the sucker. They are now renting it for 2,700,000 a month. It will stay empty for a long time since the landlord is not interested in a successful business there he is interested in your security deposit. There is about a business a year at one local I know of that falls into this catagory. A business shows up in this local with a plan that I imagine consists of hopes and dreams and fairy dust. They last about 3 or so months and then lose the farm, literally. Maybe this business is not one of those and is a great deal? I am not commenting specifically on this business but just in general. However I am HIGHLY suspect of anyone that sells a profitable business. You may be picking up trouble in whatever form.

All the stereotyping nonsense aside.......I really have only one thing to add. A Colombian ranting about too many gringo's in Medellin. That really is something considering how hard it is to find someone here that does not have at least a few primos, tios, hermanos, etc. that live in the US.

Rowdy Yates comments on Rent-a-Gun

Well if they are selling a Walther for 5 million and you can import one from the states and resell it I think there is a lucrative business there for someone.

Rowdy Yates comments on Gringo Afraid To Live In Bogota, Colombia

Don't know anyone leaving Colombia for security reasons? What hole do you people live in? I think the guy above is the only guy with his head on straight. Check out the UN site or any other site on refugees and asylum seekers. Colombia is right there at the top of the list. This guy we have no idea about. But I would imagine he is not taking the wife for a reason. It could be he found out she was the biggest danger here. Maybe he finally realized that his ass could dissapear while they collected his pension money and no one would care much. Maybe he felt alone and misslead as to how it is here. Fell upon the wrong types of people here and realized it. There is probably more to the story than meets the eye. I see that all these gringos on this site are a lot smarter than this guy or the ones I see in Bogota. That is good since the ones I see here in Bogota are usually hangin with the wrong types and usually all up in "love" with them.

Rowdy Yates comments on Playstation 3 - 40 GB New

If you can't pirate the Blue Ray I recommend you bring in as many PS2's as you can carry. Colombians are not going to pay more than 3 mil for a game. There are entire floors of places in central where there is nothing but pirated games, music and movies. Movies for 2k and of good qaulity, the games are also of good quality. Blue Ray will not be popular here if it can not be pirated I bet. Which is probably why you don't see it here. I bet ten years from now people will still be hunting down the PS2 for parts. Kind of like the Beta but will take a lot longer to die.

Rowdy Yates comments on

Run forest. Please refrain from projecting your sexual inadequacies on me. I can get it whenever I want it. "Roci was'nt allowed to attend the party? Sounds weird to me. I met him a few times. He's a very nice guy and smart. Whats with the rocking chair snap? He's a young guy in good shape. He speaks excellent Spanish and is blending into the culture. Not your average gringo in Medellin. I'm sure fraternizing with gringos in Colombia is'nt a priority for him." Well if all this is true I think I know why he was not invited. If these people hurling insults are any indication of the party list sounds like he was too well to attend.

Rowdy Yates comments on

I like the way people pretend to know people on here. I think that might be the most entertaining part of the entire site.

Rowdy Yates comments on Gringo Afraid To Live In Bogota, Colombia

Well I am no linguistic expert either, neither are you so what is your point PBHjon? I know so many Colombians that have left Colombia for security issues that I find it humerous that it is debated as to whether a gringo could want to leave on that basis. That really is the point not whether or not it is valid or not. Who cares if it is or not? For all I know I am the only other person here and the rest of you are some multipersonality psycho posting from the rubber room. Thousands of people do leave Colombia for security reasons which I think is the point of the post? Rarely do people leave the US for security reasons, The point of this is that if you can NOT find some other reason to move to Colombia that far outweighs the added risk you will face here then what is the point? You should stay where you are. No one is doing you any favors if they are advising you that Colombia is perfectly safe. I honestly can not say that without laughing. If you are considering moving here you should be weighing the positve things from living here against a security situation that is not better than the US. You should except the added risk as worth taking for the benefits of living here.

Rowdy Yates comments on Gringo Afraid To Live In Bogota, Colombia

Well of course Colombia has many things to offer that the US does not. Which is why so many gringo's come and try to live here. More security is not one of them. So indeed it is a compromise. You give up some things to get other things. A native English speaker who has been speaking Spanish for 6 years will make those type of errors.

Rowdy Yates comments on Rent-a-Gun

vic you seem pretty knowledgable on the subject. What are the chances of bringing a gun in from the states if you have the legal paperwork done here? I have been told it could be done but not sure about that? What do you know about it?

Rowdy Yates comments on Rent-a-Gun

buying a legal gun from a person? Above board? I think the answer is in the question.

Rowdy Yates comments on

I guess I hit a nerve. I just see these gringo's around that are throwing their money around and they really think they are something. They are nothing more than being used for their money. The worst part of it is they don't understand that, they think it is something else. The type of Colombiana attracted to this is a master at making them feel that it is all about them, it is all an illussion. Like I said nothing wrong with it but the difference between the Colombian with the prepagos/interesadas and the gringos is the Colombian knows it is an illussion. The gringo get's lost in the Colombiana web and before you know it the spider is having dinner. It comes across as extremely arrogant to the local population, not to mention stupid. Makes me sick when I see it. But if you would be having massages given at a party in the US then OK.

Rowdy Yates comments on Playstation 3 - 40 GB New

But can I buy pirated games for this yet? I have not seen them. Will they be able to pirate Blue Ray?

Rowdy Yates comments on

no nothing at all wrong with it as long as we don't fool ourselves into beleiving it is anything else but.

Rowdy Yates comments on Creps and Waffles

I have heard of a Crepes in Miami. I am curious as to how it is? Has anyone visited it? The Crepes in Colombia is excellent. What started as a graduate school project has blossomed into a great Colombian success story. Crepes and Waffles is very nuevo Colombian. Anyone know if she got an A on this project? Under 50,000 for two is a great value.

Rowdy Yates comments on

I guess when you finish one mid life crises in the US or wherever you can always start up another one in Colombia? Is that the deal? Nothing like money to make all the wrinkles go away huh?

Rowdy Yates comments on Gringo Afraid To Live In Bogota, Colombia

Would it not be more interesting to discuss the content of the post rather than the validity of the poster? Of course the attacks and insults seem to represent a sort of background noise easily ignored. What does it matter if it is real or not. Does anyone beleive that his opinion that Colombia is dangerous is somehow anomalous? There probably is more to the story that he would leave his wife. I can only imagine what that could be? It would not be too hard to do so since it is most likely the same things that befalls most gringo/Colombiana relationships. I travel often to the US and I can tell you that while there I am able to let my guard down. I do not do that here in Colombia until I arrive home or to a friend or families home. This is the reality of living in Colombia and most Colombians have adapted to living this way. For a forigner it may take a while to adapt to this form of living but they should. The only possible explanations I can think of for people thinking the US to be more dangerous than Colombia would be either they are smoking something of the herb variety. They are comparing apples to oranges. They have lived out of the country long enough to forget the reality of living here or they have not lived in the country long enough to understand the reality of living here. Things have certainly gotten better here over the last 5 years or so. There is some question in my mind as to whether it will continue to get better, level off or get worse. I am no teller of the future but I try to live within the realm of reality and excuse me even with increased level of security Colombia is a dangerous place when compared to the US.

Rowdy Yates comments on Gringo Afraid To Live In Bogota, Colombia

I can not blame him at all. I wonder if we did a roll call how many of you have actually lived in Colombia 6 years? It sounds to me like he is a ritired gentleman and I do beleive it is more dangerous for someone older, who may be a gringo and who if being both would be a target. It looks like he did not post that on this site but someone copied it over to this site. By reading some of the posts by so called experts of this site, I can understand why. He seemed fairly knowledgable of Bogota in fact and of current conditions. I do not beleive Colombia is any place for any elderly gringo or a retirement haven. This is just foolish thinking by anyone who beleives it to be so, I beleive.
