ronaldo comments on Acorn and the Housing Bubble

vinod Nov 21, 2009 20:11 The (government) taxpayer does support CMHC as the lender of last resort. In other words when CMHC runs out of money the taxpayer pickups the bill. As when CMHC did run out of money in the last housing crunch in Canada in the 80's and CMHC was taking back 42,000 houses a month and could not handle the financial payouts, the (government) taxpayer stepped in with cash.. CMHC held the foreclosure inventory off the market and just fed a limited amount to the market at any given time so as not to drag down the existing house prices. Took years to feed them all back onto the market and get rid of the inventory. CMHC is only profitable when times are good and they have thousands of dollars rolling in from each house that is a CMHC high ratio loan and not many foreclosures. But given a housing crunch like the 80's when people just walked away from their houses CMHC does not have sufficient cash reserves to handle the magnitude of the cash outlay and the "good old taxpayer is on the hook again" and picks up the tab.

ronaldo comments on Acorn and the Housing Bubble

Vinod Nov 14, 2009 18:17 A real sweetheart deal for the banks, getting the taxpayer (CMHC) to guarantee that the bank will never loose money on these mortgage loans. Ad that to the fact that the banks also get the taxpayer to pay the interest on bank deposits and its win, win, win for the banks.Whoever had enough intelligence to create a bank was absolutely brilliant. Just think how much thought it took to create an organization that was impossible to fail.

ronaldo comments on Circling Sharks Smell American Blood

Time is running out in this financial mess. Who is going to pay the unbelievable amounts of TRILLIONS of DOLLARS in debts? The 17% that are unemployed? The 45% that has a minus for their net worth? The 25% that used to be the middle class whos jobs have been exported to Asia? The 8% professional high earners? The 5% super rich who own 90% of America? There is no one else? The worst is yet to come. The people who were paying all the bills (taxes)(the debt) before are struggling to pay their own bills and don't have any money to pay the bills (taxes)(debt) that are required to pay the trillions dollars in debt. They have either lost their jobs, closed the plant where they worked, had their wages cut. The food banks are real busy these days. For some people today it is not "what are we going to put on the table for dinner" but "do we have anything to put on the table for dinner". Happens more often than you think. Seems to me there are only three solutions, print more money which solves nothing an only increases the problem, declare bankruptcy but that still leaves you with the debt, or cancel the debt altogether. My choice, cancel the debt. Do you want not only your children but your grandchildren's, grandchildren to be paying for your debt? I think if you were to age the existing debt you would find that we have not paid for ww2 yet, that is 65 years ago and we still have not paid off the debt. Talk about economic slavery. So anyone who agrees with me please press ENTER on the key board on your computer and the debt is gone, because you understand that is how it came to be in the first place, WITH A CLICK ON A KEY BOARD. No money was ever put up to create this incredible debt it was all CREATED BY THE CLICK ON A KEYBOARD. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS MONEY ONLY THE PERCEPTION OF IT. I am afraid that we have "killed the goose that laid the golden egg".

How possibly can a deficit redistribute wealth from the rich and give it to the poor. Every statistic will show you that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, with a diminishing "middle class". Surely you don't think redistribution of wealth is the transfer of money from the poor to the rich?

ronaldo comments on Tomatoes are lovely

RAAAY Nov. 14, 2009 02:06 If you are wondering why tomatoes taste so good in Colombia it is because they are not GASSED. Tomatoes are GASSED twice in the US, they are picked green and GASSED once with ETHYLENE (C2H2), a petroleum product, to make them ripen ALL at the same time, plus it retards the ripening process for up to four weeks. Then they are gassed with (CO2) to make them ALL the same color, a bright red. Those beautiful looking tomatoes in US supermarkets could be four to six weeks old before you even take them home. That is why they rot so quick, plus never store tomatoes in the refrigerator. They should not be subjected to temperatures below 55 degrees, so leave them out of the refrigerator. So if you don't enjoy the taste of eating oil and carbon dioxide, then enjoy a Colombian tomato with real rich flavor. VIVA COLOMBIA.

ronaldo comments on Acorn and the Housing Bubble

vinod Nov 14, 2009 10:37 These loans were all mortgage loans that you are talking about, what mortgage loan would the bank make that was unsecured? Since you say the Canadian Banks are the best managed in the world today and since you worked in a bank most of your working life would you be kind enough to tell me what is the "reserve ratio" for a Canadian Chartered Bank in Canada today? It would be interesting to compare the Canadian "Reserve Ratio" to the US "Reserve Ratio".

ronaldo comments on The "Costs" of Medical Care

Chriscan You are correct the USA spends just 1% less on social programs than does Canada, yet some people in the USA think that Canada is what they call a "socialist country". Most people think that the USA is the home of Capitalism, but the USA is also home of the largest "social program' on this planet. Its called the Education System. No where on earth is there more transfer of wealth from one person to another than in the education system in the USA.

ronaldo comments on The "Costs" of Medical Care

scumbuster post Nov 5, 2009, 17:28 You have claimed in your post that the Citizens of the USA pay for all innovation in medicine and have the USA has "all the cutting edge of technology" and "the best treatment in the world". In responce to your post of the above noted date and time, I would like to inform you of a few facts. This is not intended as a put down, just facts. You mentioned advancement of treatment in your kidney stone, of shock waves to break up your kidney stones. This procedure is called Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy or ESWL. This procedure was not developed in the USA, but in fact developed in 1980 in Germany by Domier Medizintechnik GmbH. So you can thank the Germans for the invention of the treatment of your kidney stone. You also mentioned Magnetic Resonance Imaging, MRI and implied that the USA developed ALL modern medical equipment in the world. The FATHERS of Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI, are Paul Lauterbur, a Professor of Chemistry at the Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Sir Peter Mansfield, a British Physicist at the University of Noddingham in the UK. The Mellon Institute is a nonprofit Foundation and the University of Noddingham is a Royal Chartered University, meaning it belongs to the people of the UK (which is a "socialist" institution). So the modern MRI was created by a nonprofit Foundation and a foreign "socialist institution" and not by the American Medical Community. Paul Lauterbur and Sir Peter Mansfield both shared the NOBEL PRIZE for MEDICINE in 2003 for their joint contributions to the development of the modern MRI. There are a number of countries throughout the world who contribute through R&D to the well being of all of us and not just the USA. On a global scale the USA is not the biggest contributor as you have suggested. Now as far as having "all the cutting edge technology" and "the best treatment in the world" you might try to explain with all this advantage over other countries why the USA has 45 other countries that are ahead of you, as the USA is number 46 on the list of countries for Infant Mortality Rates*? Why with "all the cutting edge" and "best treatment in the world" does the USA slide to 46 place. Even Cuba who has a dreaded "socialist medical system", a country that the USA has been trying to destroy for the last 50 years through economic and material sanctions (no fuel, no fertilizer, no pesticides, no medical equipment, no drugs etc) and even failed attempts of assassination of its leader (illegal by the way under USA law) is ahead of the USA? FURTHER, there are 49 other countries who's citizens could dance on your grave as the USA is in 50 place for Life Expectancy* in the world. Is it not logical that with "the cutting edge technology" and "the best treatment in the world" that your life expectancy would place you as number ONE? *CIA World Factbooks, 2009 Edition.

ronaldo comments on The "Costs" of Medical Care

The "Costs" of Medical Care By Thomas Sowell Thomas Sowell talks a lot about "shifting costs, high costs of medical education, doctor costs" and a lot of other "costs" and rhetoric of others who would claim to be able to lower these "costs", but what Mr. Sowell does not talk about is the actual value of his own rhetoric in terms of dollars. Lets have some examples showing the real COST of medical care and the revenue generated by providers. Without these factual dollar numbers the rest is all just, if I may borrow the term from Thomas Sowell "rhetoric".

ronaldo comments on Peso/Pound Trends

The US is the biggest economy in the world and when they are in big trouble, which they are regardless of what they tell you, it affects every other country. We are all inter-dependent today like an ego-system. The fleecing of America, by big corporations, this time has been so massive and devastating that you will not see any resemblance to normal for a decade (10 years) and maybe longer. And add to the fact that they have put the thieves in charge of the recovery. Same Old, Same Old system. And just wait, when the economy has fully recovered they will do it all over again. BOOM, ROB, BUST.

ronaldo comments on Monarch Butterfly migration

They start their migration from Ontario Canada and fly across one of the great lakes, Lake Erie, on their incredible journey of 3,000 kilometers to their feeding grounds in the volcanic mountains of central Mexico. They do a round trip every year an incredible 6,000 kilometers round trip. This migration is is because of their food sources. They only eat Milkweed which has a poison, cardiac glycosides, which does not affect them and is found in abundance in Ontario, Canada and the volcanic mountians of central Mexico. Unbelievable.

ronaldo comments on What's So Great About Private Health Insurance?

Do your children a favor and forget this mumbo jumbo plans they are dealing with in Congress and go straight to the single payer system. Set it up, after examination of models for other single payer countries AND NOT any participation of the private sector insurance companies at all. Best legacy that you can leave your children. It's about your children and your grandchildren, not you stupid.

ronaldo comments on Retitled: To Duck the Left or Veer to the Right? A True Tale of Two Houses.

gs Big Money Pharmaceutical Companies..............where did this come from? There was no mention of this in my post? SINGLE PAYER COUNTRIES negotciate cheaper prices for all drugs for their citizen, some less than 1/2 price or even less, than US costs. I agree with you about "sick care". You don't have "Healthcare" in the US you have "Medical Insurance", a big difference. Healthcare requires preventive medicine before you get sick and Medical Insurance treats you after you get sick. With your regard to your post of 06 October 2009 23:12 about you paying for the "dirtbag", as you call them, eating the fried chicken and twinkies and never exercises. This is more of an educational process to teach people to eat right. As far as paying for this "dirtbag" chances are someones grandmother, or childless couple could probably say the same thing about you. You see you never paid for your education "(other peoples money) socialized education" did. So bringing your 07 October 2009 05:18 post of your own words "no work, no eat" would you apply the same criteria to yourself and say "no pay, no education"? Now is your chance to prove to all PBH'ers that you truly believe in your own statements that you do not believe in "entitlements" "socialized anything" "freebees", but strictly pay your own way philosophy. You can do that by telling us all that you are going to go to the school boards that provided your "freebe" "socialist" education and write them out a check for the true cost of your education. Please advise us when you plan on doing that?

ronaldo comments on Retitled: To Duck the Left or Veer to the Right? A True Tale of Two Houses.

gs I would suggest that you change part of your title from "A True Tale Of Two Houses" to "A Fairy Tale of Two Houses". I would also suggest to Sara Hudson that she spend her time running for some elected government position and changing the system from within, rather than wasting her time writing such dribble. Governments are not by any means in the construction business and don't build houses nor sell them to private citizens. Habitat For Humanity is the closest thing to housing with the assistance of government for low income people. They build houses globally with donated labor. gs in your post the press release for Center For Independent Studies indicated that "northern people could raise the money independently of banks and build their own houses", I was curious how to do that so I have emailed Sarah Hudson at the Center For Independent Studies for an explanation. Will post her reply here for you all to see. Sorry to tell you but I do not agree with gs, katwhiskers and lpdiver posts here. I am a strong believer in the single payer system as the only way to go for health care. You all may be hung up on labels used by vested interests to convince you of the evils of the dreaded "socialized medicine" "government bureaucrats deciding what doctor you can see" and all the other BS that they spew. You all throw around terms like "leftism" and "entitlements" without giving them much thought. So just think about it for a minute, next time you have a problem don't phone that socialized police department in your community, and when your house catches on fire don't call the socialized fire department cause they are all "leftie" organizations paid for collectively by the community and you don't want any "entitlements". So you see there are a lot of things that can and should be done collectively for the good of all the people living in the community regardless of what "label" you hang on it. Health Care for everyone is one of them. AND, YES HEALTH CARE IS AN ENTITLEMENT FOR EACH AND EVERY CITIZEN. What more proof do you need than to just look at your Congressman and Senators of the US, they think it is a great system and they ALL VOTED it for THEMSELVES and THEIR FAMILIES, all paid for by "socialist (other peoples money) dollars". Would you please tell all the PBH'ers why it is good for them and not for you?

ronaldo comments on why you AMERICANS put up with this shit

Tipping was born in good old England centuries ago by the Aristocrats who wanted to impress a lady so he could get into her pants. So, it is all you Brits fault. Personally I think it is an a-hole idea. Just think about it for a minute, I go in a nice warm restaurant and have a $25 meal and leave 20% tip $5. The waitress leaves the restaurant and heads for home in her car and stops at a gas station to get $25 worth of gas from my son who works pumping gas at the station. Its 25 degrees below zero, there is a 40 mile an hour wind and my son pumps the gas into her car while freezing his ass. The waitress gives my son $25 and drives away. Did he not provide as much service for her, or more, as she did for me in the restaurant? Why is she entitled to $5 for her service and my son gets nothing? The whole thing is stupid. So, I am going to tell you a secret for tipping. When I go into ANY restaurant where tipping is common practice I simply say very seriously "Before I order anything I would like you to know that my beliefs do not allow me to tip, is that going to be a problem?" And I have never had one problem and do not tip ANYONE.

ronaldo comments on What's So Great About Private Health Insurance?

HERE IS AN EASY SUMMARY OF THE DIFFERENT HEALTH CARE (MEDICAL INSURANCE AS YOU CALL IT IN THE USA) SYSTEMS IN THE WORLD. For all you people living in the United States who oppose the single payer system for health care and who will die THREE YEARS earlier than people in the single payer health care system countries and also will loose more of your children through infant mortality than some countries which you consider third world countries, its time to look at the facts without the BS handed to you by vested financial interests in the US system. Why don't you simply do this.............get the same "socialist" health care plan that your Congressman and Senators have voted for themselves? They think it is great for themselves and their families. Are they a special kind or class of American Citizens that makes them "entitled" to it and you are not? They vote for it for themselves and their families and vote against it for you. Anything wrong with this picture? Wake up.

Whitewidow Who would own the real estate that you say they bid on?

ronaldo comments on

When there are a lot of foreclosed properties they are held and "fed" onto the market at a rate that tries not to damage what there is of the regular existing market. I don't get your comments from "What does it mean?" on. Banks do not bid at auction to buy any real estate, who would own the properties that they bid on? And what possible reason could they want to acquire more real estate? Banks have two kinds of mortgages, conventional where they carry the mortgage themselves at their own risk and if they have to foreclose the title is vested back to the bank by the courts. The bank is then free to sell it at what ever price they want. The other is an insured loan where the loan is insured by a third party and if the bank has to foreclose on this type of property the title is again vested back to the bank by the court and the insurance company pays the bank for the balance outstanding and takes possession of the property. In both cases the BANK CAN NOT LOOSE. If they put out a conventional loan for example at $300,000 and they have to foreclose and the current market value of the house has dropped to $200,000 and the bank sells the house for $200,000 the BANK MAKES $200,000 not looses $100,000. Thats why most of what is going on is not a BANKING problem but a fiddle diddle problem. And by the way banks do not do the repairs on the foreclosed properties before they are sold they are sold as "fixer uppers" and all "as is", what you see is what you get.
