rmykita comments on

I think it is true that Colombians think shortly, only insofar as it affects them and their core family or friends. But they DEFINITELY think before act - constantly deliberating, despite few options...they don't make many mistakes, actually (but neither do they take big risks). Very consistent and predictable culture I would say, not sure if I am on topic.. ry

Martin, I believe you can do this. My company runs well here, and so does my friends - she has a factory in China, and she imports to Colombia...she lived in NYC for many years and is exploring an entry into the US Market. I would be happy to set up a teleconference. We are in Bogota, however, Barranquilla is under the same jurisdiction. Are you interested? She has a lot of experience, and if you get a long, maybe something fruitful could come! Email or Call Best, Ryan ryan_mykita at hotmail.com 3168575446

rmykita comments on A room in Northern Bogota

It's true, RUV. Small, but nice hood! Studio, terrace, Bosque Izquierdo/Macarena - NOT very close to Chico, 12 minute cab, 25-30 minute bus. But, nice building with some cool neighbors, and at least 3/4 of the services you will get up there, although fewer entertainment options, and less clean/elite! I am booked up for the time being, but it becomes available Oct 8...Let me know if this can help! 50,000 COP a night depending on stay! Best, Ryan ryan_mykita at hotmail.com

rmykita comments on New Apartments, COST per Square Ft

stark, its not all theoretical until you see the cash. Merely talking price reveals alot, expectation and ability to pay. The markets you mentioned are well-known, and are not diverse, Chile is steady, Uruguay is beach tourism mostly, and Buenos Aires has had plenty of time to recover. I'm convinced that Bogota has the urban living potential of BA. I have bought in Macarena and Bosque Izquierdo. I am willing to share my experience in private, and assist others in buying for themselves. towards the end of this year will be a good time to buy...looking at OK peso/dollar rates now, but I expect significant peso appreciation in coming years, not to mention huge invesstments surroung macarena/bosque izquierdo...email me to discuss Ryan Mykita ryan_mykita at hotmail.com

rmykita comments on NEED AN APARTMENT/ROOM/STUDIO IN BOGOTA LAS WEEK OF DIC FIRST WEEK OF JAN

I have a nice studio in the Macarena, near the Center/Candelaria of Bogota...Not very cheap though, has all services and extras like computer, cell phone and so on - its a professional short-stay house, you get what you pay for. It is around 500 dollars per month....Let me know if this sounds interesting, private message only please... Regards, Ryan ryan_mykita at hotmail.com

rmykita comments on US Americans or Italians living in Bogota

If you are looking for lodging in Bogota, I have an apartment thats available oct 8. Its a short-stay studio apartment for a couple, real nice - one of my best clients are going to be folks who come to adopt, as the adoption agency is nearby I believe...Any interest? $25 a night! all inclusive! furnished and real nice... rmykita comments on Better place to study Spanish: Bogota or Medellin?

Lived in both, stayed in Bogota. Still here, still learning. The international community is not significant in either city. And believable me, a critical factor in having the guts to fully learn the language (years), is having people who speak your language and you have been through it by your side. I tried Medellin and was lonely within 3 months. Bogota now for over a year.. Highly recommended... Ryan ryan_mykita at hotmail.com

rmykita comments on Japanese wife in Bogota

There are some excellent japanese restaurants and 3-4 japanese/korean specialty shops, Sorry to group, but understand that some flexibility is required! I assure you that she will only have the best of time, as I would suggest that Japanese/Indian/USA/Canadians are the most popular cultures here in Bogota. Also, its worth noting that the Japanese Embassy is one of the most active. There are lots of options, highly recommended. I love living here and I'm from the Japanese community of California - I'm Ukrainian American, but I survived teh shock! Ryan ryan_mykita at hotmail.com

rmykita comments on How to obtain a Student Visa?

El Dorado, thanks for your participation, but be a little more considerate about littering the boards with 10 posts in 30 seconds (a bit of an exaggeration, but you get my drift). Gotta be self-sufficient to survive in this country...The minimum, as I remember it, is 10 hours plus homework

rmykita comments on Looking for a 2 b-room apartment, to rent for one month.

Hi, I have a great place in short walking distane, only available Oct 8 - 18 however. Nice studio apartment with terrace in the Macarena...25 with 4...furnished and ready to go...let me know if I can help... Ryan ryan_mykita at hotmail.com

rmykita comments on For Rent:Apartastudio in Cali (Barrio Santa Monica)

Arthur, This place yours? rmykita comments on South Bogota by the airport apt????

Hi Bamapits, I have a good option for you. You may remember our conversation a few months back, well, I have invested in a short stay house on El Dorado, the road to El Dorado Airport. It is near the Centro, in a safe classical neighborhood called Macarena. From there, easy transport can be had anywhere South. It is a Studio apartment with large beds, sleeps 2 comfortably or 4 with shared beds. I would like to tell you more. It is available starting Oct 8...Please message me... Best, Ryan ryan_mykita at hotmail.com

rmykita comments on I have a live phone report this morning that says there is much demonstration in Colombia today...IS THIS WHERE URIBE ENDS AND .....WHAT BEGINS???

Get with the program...Uribe is the most popular, and undoubtedly best president Colombia has had in the last 50 years. His opposition is a minority, and weak at that... R

rmykita comments on looking for apartment in bogota - candelaria or macerena

rmykita comments on Studying in Bogota

Hey pal, If you do not like where you live, move. It is always advisable to do so, because you inevitably will grow from the move, without aging as much as you will being in a place you dislike! Vancouver is nice, lots of opportunity, but UBC is certainly not a world-class school, at least, no one will be shamed for deciding against it. Colombia will give you opportunities galore, for being bilingual, young, and serious. The universities here are as good, or better in some significant ways. The quality of research is high, although the professionals are less world-class. The internship opportunities, for you in particular, are excellent. However, your classmates will have very limited life experience. Do not expect interesting conversations...Do expect exposure to Colombian opportunities, however. Everything is wide open to young people like us, right at this moment. The universities have good relationships with the private sector/govt, also. Spanish, a serious challenge, and seeing a country in a transition point, as we are here, is significantly more valuable than an average college degree...Colombia is a creative educational option - becuase you can reinvent yourself over and again, given your bilingualism, good attitude, and relative financial health! The sky is the limit for us, here. I would move. I did, from the University of California...studied at Antioquia and Nacional in Bogota...worked with most of the others in the past, or currently. Message me for more brief thoughts... R ryan_mykita at hotmail.com

rmykita comments on Canadians living in Bogota

Lots of social groups, I can give you the scoop if you email me...forward you some stuff...AIESEC included, there are others...as long as you get along with Americans...North! R

rmykita comments on Colombian Peso

No way...lots of dollars coming into the country in the next couple of months for takeovers, big bank purchases, still buying in Colombia...below 2000...between 1900 - 2000...look for it to go back up though around november/december when there is selling of colombian holdings by gringos...and when colombians travel, selling pesos... R ryan_mykita at hotmail.com

rmykita comments on Business Contacts in Medellin

harvardexec... Dude! Don't talk like that! Seriously, stop starting sentences with 'I' and saying things like 'social gatherings'....first step... Second step, talk to people who are doing it...I have a friendi n Bogota who does just that...13 years later, still here...let's take it to email...and be a lot less formal/dry/ego-maniacal! I mean no offense, but harvardexecs here either go to Los Andes or the Colombian government. If you want to get down and dirty with the business culture of Colombia, well, take off the tie! Seriosuly though, email me, we'll chat R ryan_mykita at hotmail.com

rmykita comments on Looking for gyms in central Bogota (Calle 20 con 5)

rmykita comments on

I understand...but realize that Colombians do not have time for civic activities...only Californians and Germans have the time to tell other people how to live, even if it means simply lending a hand! Colombians are hugely prideful and completely convinced of the wealth of their country - however, they are afraid of one another...family is family, so you will see well-maintained houses but poorly kept streets. So why do Colombians not trust each other enough to 'get civic' and start volunteering!. Well, mostly because there are not enough jobs to award the concept of 'free time'. For me, civic culture is an advantage of job surplus...and there is no job surplus here. So, consider this, forget the NGO sector and get your butt down here to create some Jobs! I did, best decision I ever made... Ryan

rmykita comments on STudyding in Colombia..

Bogota has the most opportunity in the country - far and away...it is far from nasty, but to be sure, losers like juancho00 get weeded out pretty quickly in the most sophisticated city in the country. If you are serious, and not juancho00, take a look at Bogota. That is where the serious Spanish language learners mostly are... R
