Rico comments on New Colombian Scam

Your ID name tells it all! By itself, your ID does tell a story. A person that is mesmerized is a person that is easily hypnotized and easily moved by hypnotic suggestions. Are you giving people that kind of impression? If you are, you are on the wrong track. I mean, if you give others that kind of impression, they will try to con you. There's no ifs or buts to this one! If you act like a sucker, you will be played like a sucker!

As the saying goes: A fool and his money are soon parted!

Listen, I am really sorry about being so blunt. OK? It's just that I really hate con games. I just hope my bluntness will make you change!

Rico comments on New Colombian Scam

Very fishy indeed... Friendship? Are you putting me on? That doesn't sound like a friend to me. People do change! So right now it sounds like a scam is being played out. Now, since I don't like playing THE FOOL, I would NOT send any money. Instead, I would say that I don't have the money, and I would stall. In due time, the story will continue to evolve and transform. Maybe after a while, you will know the truth...the whole truth! Right now, of course, you are in the dark.

Hey! Even if this friend was a relative of mine, I would stall. Hell! I've got my limits!

Sorry if this sounds rough, but that's my opinion...my only opinion!

Rico comments on Pereira or Cali? Etc...

Religions of the world... All the religions of the world have the Golden Rule: "Love thy neighbor as yourself." They have it to maintain order and civility.

After an insult, people respond with Talion's Law: It's an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth!

It is really like a fork on the road: One road leads to peace, the other to war!

Rico comments on Treatment of Black tourists from USA or England

There's a big difference... Colombians treat foreign tourists very, very well. It does NOT matter if they are black or asian, etc. With them, they are "color blind!"

Colombians save their prejudice for their own blacks, indians and mestizos. Even millionaire black baseball players are barred from some clubs and restaurants.

That's the way it goes!

Rico comments on What the hell ????????

Young Germans... I must say there's a generation gap in Germany. Young Germans are much more open and communicative than their elders (just like Americans). The older generations still carry a bit of the paranoia and suspiciousness of the difficult post-war period.

Yes, there's hope for the better. It just takes time!

Rico comments on The thing about Americans is that....

Chip on the shoulder When it comes to the USA, a lot of people around the world carry a chip on their shoulders. Sometimes, the chip is a 2X4 piece of lumber. Being the top dog among nations does carry a price, and the price is ENVY!

Rico comments on What the hell ????????

Your culture? Believe me, German culture is NOT your culture. You might think it is, but it is NOT. Germans can be very, very aloof and even rude in public, as Mr Hollywood explains so well.

Even in marriage, a German man will try to keep a lot of emotional distance from his very own wife! They just don't open up much! The German way is to keep emotions out of their personal lives. That's why they keep a tight personal space in public. My view of this attitude? I don't think it's psychologically healthy at all!

German diplomatic schools DO teach students to be more open and receptive. So if you meet a German embassy or consulate diplomat, he or she will be much more open and talkative (just like Canadians or Americans).

Rico comments on My cousin was sent back to Colombia, and Couldn't get in US

USA: Give the guy a break... Man, they should give this military man a break. After all, he will be going to a very, very dangerous place: IRAQ! That's really a shame!

Rico comments on Colombia’s social class

Only after marriage! You must marry them first. That's the hard part!!! I'm sure they will NOT give you much without a marriage certificate.

Rico comments on Colombia’s social class

Odee women DO accept... Elmo: Did you get it right? I don't think so.

Most Odee.com women accept men with tanned skins in marriage.

http://www.odee.com

Rico comments on Colombia’s social class

What Renteria carries... I didn't express my self clearly above. So I will give it a 2nd try.

Edgar Renteria carries his Black Colombia and his family in his heart (not all of Colombia). I'm sure he does NOT love and appreciate the harsh prejudice he gets for being black. No human being can accept that kind of treatment without some resentment. That's what I meant. It's really a question of pride.

Rico comments on Colombia’s social class

www.odee.com Odee.com is a Bogota-based marriage agency that specializes in white Colombian women that are highly educated. While looking at the girls, I noticed that most of the women desiring marriage do NOT mind men with "tanned skins." That, of course, is a code word for men that are dark skinned. Mind you, these are women who are doctors, dentists, lawyers and architects (not low-class dummies). That sure made an impact on me! I mean, it is the kind of "open mindedness" that I did not expect from the women of Bogota. Are things changing? Maybe they are. Who knows? At least, these women DO ACCEPT dark guys!!!

Rico comments on Colombia’s social class

Oh, really... I am sure Edgar Renteria has a nice, big water-front mansion in Miami, and he does not care one bit about entering clubs in Barranquilla or Medellin. Once you become a multi-millionaire in the USA, you have plenty of options on how to spend your money. There's also plenty of good-looking, blue-eyed blondes that want him in the sack badly! So he is not hurting, believe me! Most likely, he doesn't think much about Colombia nowdays!

Rico comments on Colombia’s social class

Baseball star RENTERIA You guys missed one "rags to riches" story: Edgar Renteria is a very, very black Colombian baseball star who plays in the US. I'm sure he is a multi-millionaire by now.

Rico comments on Travel Visa To USA

Student visas... Student Visas: This could be the easiest way for a Colombiana without property, etc. However, the person must enroll in a college or university and really study.

Rico comments on Maria llena de gracia Soundtrack

Low budget film... Man, I will be surprised if they sell the soundtrack alone! Maria Full of Grace is a low-budget, independent film (indie). Usually, indie films skip the soundtrack all together. Singer? I am sure it's an unknown artist to keep costs down. Maybe you can find the info once the DVD comes out in a few months!

Actually, the DVD will have the soundtrack. Therefore, you will have the film and the soundtrack in one nice package. Great!!!!

Rico comments on US nice guy in Colombian Jail?

Be Teflon Coated! Just walk around with a heavy-duty Teflon coating and let ugly comments slide off (que te resbale). It is always best to walk away from trouble.

If you get into a fight, you are the foreigner, the outsider. So you might not fare very well. As Tinto says, Colombian jails are pure hell! You don't want to spend any time in one of those pits!

Rico comments on To foreign women in Colombia

James: Follow Dave's advice! You have to make the right cultural adjustments. Colombia is different!

I mean, you must feel as if you have a high-grade Teflon coating all over you "y todo te resbala." Once you are truly "No Stick," you can let comments go in one ear and quickly out the other. Colombianos tend respect this tough, unaffected attitude.

Fighting, on the other hand, increases the problems! Furthermore: It shows you as an easily affected individual.

Rico comments on Cops in Colombia?

Trouble, trouble... Diana: If you keep that up, you are headed for trouble. Somewhere, somehow, you must make the right decisions in a timely fashion. If you don't, problems will follow you like your own shadow. Remember, "two is company, and three is a crowd."

Rico comments on Colombia vs. Venezuela

Hmm... I like that phrase..."The Athens of Latin America." Tiene su belleza esa frase.

Rico comments on Movies About Colombia

Maria Full of Grace...muy, muy Llena de Gracia! Maria Full of Grace, with Catalina Sandino Moreno in the lead role, beat out Will Smith's I Robot in seats per showing in both New York and Los Angeles. That's amazing! Usually, low-budget indie films never do well against heavily promoted Hollywood films. Thus, Americans are seeing this movie in droves, even thought the film is in Spanish with English subtitles.

Cartagena International Film Festival...
Maria Llena de Gracia gano 6 premios de manos de los Colombianos, incluyendo el de mejor actriz para Catalina Sandino Moreno. Eso dice mucho de la pelicula. Mejor dicho: Eso dice muchisimo de la pelicula.

Rico comments on Two Americans marry in colombia

Dominican Republic marriages... I believe the Dominican Republic offers no hazzle marriages (and divorces)! Colombia, on the other hand, is not a the same level. I mean, the level of difficulty is much higher!

Mucho papeleo!

Rico comments on Maria, Full of Grace Maria, Llena de Gracia

The reason why the movie is so good... As a movie buff, I've been asking myself: Why is this movie so good? What is the secret behind it? Why is Maria Full of Graze gathering so many accolades all over the world? Well, I did find the answer. Just read the links below to learn the secret...

http://www.startribune.com/stories/1553/4901308.html

http://www.themoviechicks.com/mid2004/mctmaria.html

Joshua Marston was very, very clever. He let his actors Colombia-nize his movie script! That is, he let his Colombian actors do their own Colombian dialogue with no interference from him. Thus, he let the movie become fully Colombian! That's what makes Maria Full of Grace so very authentic and real!

Rico comments on "PEREIRANAS = WHORES????" DESIDERIA SAYS YES!! WOW!!

Proverbio! Si quieres vivir en PAZ,
Respeta el DERECHO de los demas.

Rico comments on US dollars in Colombia

American Express! American Express just introduced a new Travel Funds Card. It is the equivalent of AE travellers cheques, and they can be used at ATM machines around the world. For details, check out the American Express link below...

Sounds good to me!

Rico comments on Maria, Full of Grace Maria, Llena de Gracia

New cinema stars! It's incredibly difficult to be successful in the Hollywood movie business. For "newbies" or beginners, it is even more difficult! That's a fact! And that's why I am very impressed with the success of Maria Full of Grace!

For both Joshua Marston (writer/director) and Catalina Sandino Moreno (actress), Maria Full of Grace is their very 1st movie. At this moment, they are being lauded with praise that is usually reserved for veteran directors and actresses, not newbies. There's even talk about oscars for this low budget, independent film (indie).

Here's a sample comment from a movie critic...

"Moreno, whose acting experience had been limited to amateur theater in her native Colombia, makes one of those amazing out-of-nowhere screen debuts that has Oscar written all over it. It's the best performance from a lead actress I've seen so far this year!" Ruthe Stein, San Francisco Chronicle Newspaper.

Berlin Film Festival, 2004...
Catalina Sandino Moreno tied Charlize Theron (Monster) for Best Actress! Earlier in 2004, Charlize Theron won an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Monster!

Venice Film Festival, 2003...
Catalina Sandino Moreno and Charlize Theron tied for the Best Actress award in Venice, Italy.

Los Angeles Film Festival, 2004...
Maria Full of Grace won the Audience Award for Best Film.

Seattle International Film Festival, 2004...
Catalina Sandino Moreno won the award for Best Actress.

Cartagena Film Festival, 2004...
Catalina Sandino Moreno won the award for Best Actress. The film gathered a total of 6 awards!

Sundance Film Festival, 2004...
Maria Full of Grace won the Audience Award for the Best Film shown at Sundance! It is the 1st film in Spanish to be accepted for these awards.

I urge you to read the 80+ positive reviews over at RottenTomatoes.com! I believe that Colombia now has a new Hollywood Star in Catalina Sandino Moreno! That's quite an accomplishment! Just a few actors have had that kind of success in their 1st movie!

Rico comments on "PEREIRANAS = WHORES????" DESIDERIA SAYS YES!! WOW!!

When you say "ALL," you make a big mistake! Every country and city in this world has churches and prisons, good people and bad people. I am sure that Pereira has both good and bad people. The same goes for Bogota, Cali and Medellin. Therefore, to say that all the women in Pereira are whores is very far from the truth! I am sure Pereira has its share of very decent women.

It is always a mistake to say "ALL."

Rico comments on Questions on mentality of Colombian women

Faked love... If a woman shows too much interest in money, I would be very, very suspicious! Anyone with a little bit of common sense, will realize that $1,000 USD for 3 days is too much money. The same goes for the "instant love" scheme. There's no such thing, my friend. Love is never that fast! Therefore, you should be very careful with this girl!

I hope you read the link below. It will open your eyes to some of the scams out there.

My advice: Please try another Colombian girl!

Rico comments on Maria, Full of Grace Maria, Llena de Gracia

Superb reviews (99%) Over at RottenTomatoes.com, you can read all the current movie reviews. At this moment, Maria Full of Grace has a review score of 98%. That's the highest score I've ever seen at this site. It is truly amazing! Usually, very good movies get a score of 70 to 90%! When a movie goes over 90%, it is an award winning film!

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/maria_full_of_grace/

You can expect this movie to gather many awards as time passes! It is that good!

Rico comments on Are their any honest agencies in Cali?

Birds of a feather, flock together! On some internet sites, you can learn about a Colombian woman's profession, be it psychology, medicine or architecture. Well, this helps quite a bit, and it serves as a filter. I mean, an architect will be able to find common ground with a Colombian woman that is also an architect. The same goes for someone with a degree in psychology. As the saying goes: "Birds of a feather, flock together!" This, of course, is the main advantage of internet connections. You can quickly find people you can relate to.

Remember, having a common ground or interest helps people establish friendships and love relationships that are long lasting!

Rico comments on Are their any honest agencies in Cali?

Beware of scams! I found a site full of tips to avoid scams. With some of the suggestions found there, you will avoid a lot of very serious problems. I mean, some of those agencies are simply money making machines. They don't care much about what happens to their clients as long as they make money.

Good luck!
