Both Gomezman5 and DonGringo are correct about this issue. The person searching isn't a detective, in my experience, but a private investigator. The fact of "up front" money is a reality in this sort of search. Common sense. The problem with Colombian Possibilities, Michael B, is that they are rip-offs. They don't come back with any info. Where's the beef? They have no doubt done this to alot of people. I think there is a police agency that would love to shut them down, i.e. take their web page down and try to get money back for their victims. Most people, who have paid for a search, are going to stick to the agreement if they see good faith on the part of the investigator. Even if the response from the person who is being located is not what you were hoping for.

Gary Snyder, the poet, was interviewed some years ago and made the observation that the world would be so much nicer if there were 1/4 fewer people. I was all for Paul Erlich-Zero Population Growth. I can't forget the kids sleeping on the steps of the Catholic church in Cali. The first thing I always did was take pesos there so they could eat something and wanted to do a Master's thesis on homeless kids in Cali. I'll keep my mouth shut, now.

It's there all the time. It's not going away. No, Ctg. I don't believe FARC bullshit. I need to tell you that I was in Colombia, for the first time, in 1981. In Cuidad Jardine, the M19 was going around spray painting any rock they could find. The whole FARC thing has escalated hugely, although the first time I went to Cali-1981-there were truckloads of army personnel in the el centro. Just gotten much worse.

They will continue, however, to be "classic" terrorists. They hit and run. Create chaos. They will continue, like a very bad rash. I really wish there was not such a blatant class system in Colombia. The FARC, however, are NOT helping the poor in any way. They have become their own mafia. They only seek to enrich themselves. Any other thought is a delusion. I REALLY wish Uribe had better social help for the downtrodden of Colombia. He is, overall, to be highly commended for his fight against this disease. The FARC is a blight to that beautiful country. I wish Uribe very well.

redway comments on A Few Dumb Colombians Animal Rights in the U.S...NO DISNEYLAND. I spend time every day signing petitions for both animal and human rights. I read stories everyday about horrific abuse of animals in the U.S.. The difference for me is that most people here would agree that animal abuse is wrong. Most people here don't agree with skinning animals alive, eating dog or cat soup, watching animals starve and freeze in an "animal market"-that exists for the human consumption of dogs, cats and other species. In China, it is an institutionalized way of life, as it is in Korea. Human rights are very closely entwined with animal rights. I don't believe a 27 and 32 year old "kid"-in my estimate- should be put to death for doing something completely stupid. They should be sent back to Colombia. That probably won't happen...

I wouldn't spend a penny there. Have you heard of the hundreds of "animal markets"? Dogs in pens are freezing, starving and then slaughtered, after being skinned alive. I HOPE there is a civil war and they all kill each other.

Although, I do know one person who had the highest G.P.A. at the University of Nebraska in his entire graduating class-in Physics, transferred to Berkeley, was shuffled out of the doctoral program in Physics-wasn't considered "doctoral material"-got into law school at Harvard, then became a patent attorney. They gave him a master's degree at Berkeley in Physics. That's what they do there. Not saying this woman isn't really bright. Always happy to see a woman in the sciences. He studied like a lunatic.
