RAnglada comments on Hostel in Bogota close to the Zona Rosa?

I always stay at St. Simones. Everything is within a short walk, but it is aroun 35 USD.

RAnglada comments on A Business in Colombia

Hate to tell you this, but most Colombians I have met do not like high cream Ice Cream. The fat content to them makes it taste bad. This comes from my wifes family of 7 sisters and 2 bothers. I love the
high fat Ben and Jerry's and they hated it. I ate it all.

RAnglada comments on Interview

Well,

My wife worked with Senator's in Colombia and is very very Politically inclined. She can read English, but not very good speaking English. By the way...SHE IS A DAM DEMOCRAT....PEACE lover...oh well, we can't have it all I am a REPUBLICAN HAWK.

RAnglada comments on Pool Table

You should specify what type of pool table you want. Do you want one where you can play 8-ball (my favorite) and 9 ball or what the Colombians love to play.

They play Billards..three balls and no pockets. Tough game.

RAnglada comments on I need Help... Making Arepas for my Colombian wife tonight

Arepa
Well, I know the flour here in U.S. cannot be used.
My wife makes them all the time and does the American
add thing (left overs). There is a Mexican store where
she buys the flour. If you can type Spanish, you can
contact her at Enbugo at yahoo.com and she could tell you.

RAnglada comments on My mother's tourist visa was denied.

I will let you know that as an American Citizen, they answered my questions and if they did not, I went further while visiting the embassy and they complied with all my needs, but when I was at the embassy, they were very rude to Colombian's. I was amazed at the attitude they took. I think your wife would get much further than you.

Good luck

RAnglada comments on How do I ship a vehicle to Bogota Colombia?

The most stolen cars are SUV's.
They love landrovers, so if you buy a Jeep Cherokee,
plan on getting someone to watch you car at all times.

Funny how many Renaults they have in Bogota.
They seem to hold up better than most.

RAnglada comments on Can an American own a house in Colombia?

Thanks for that informantion.

What kind of legal issues did you have?

I plan on using my bank in FLorida also. I have SunTrust and was wondering if that was the bank you used?

RAnglada comments on Tax On Withdrawals

Western Union charges you to send and then the person you sent the money to is charged a small fee also. Double taxation, but still less than US.

RAnglada comments on What do u miss most about Colombia?

Golfing-fishing-dancing
I miss golfing in Bogota where it feels I am doing 18 holes in the air condition. I miss Cartegena fishing and most of all MY WIFE LOVES TO DANCE and since I have two left feet....need some wine and then I can dance.
I just wish I could travel around there more.
Beautiful mountains and all.

House in Colombia
Going to retire in a few years. Colombian wife and I love Colombia, so we are getting a home in Colombia near her relatives and when I retire, will have the home.

ATM's
Gator is correct, just got back from visiting my wifes relatives and all I used was the ATM machines.

The money houses wanted to see your passport, but your bank in the states goes by the exchange and you have no middle man, so ATM's are the way to go.

Owning a Home
I am married to a Colombian and would like to get residence and buy a home in Bogota. What are the procedures? She called the consulate in Chicago and he told us to set up an appoinment, but that is a four hour trip for just a few simple questions.

If anyone has gone through this, let me know.

Buy the way, was told I could get residence and get a Colombian passport. Is this true?

Thanks
