psahlmann comments on Budget hotel in Cartagena

think it over.... ....and come to Santa Marta instead.
Here life is more relaxed and there are many
things to do and see. Plus you have the Tayrona
park closeby. At this time of the year almost
all for yourself! And everything costs less,
that also goes for accomodation. At SunCity we
can offer you room rates from as low as 09.- USD
per night. That includes taxes (and complimentary
use of WAN right in your room!). We are located at
the safe historic center and our business is clean
and modern. Other than discount lodges, SunCity
features rooms with natural light (have windows!).

Hope to see you on this or a future travel.
Besides, we are only a 3 minute walk from the beach.

Kind regards

psahlmann comments on Dont stay at Casa Kiwi

a hostels point of view Hi Forum
As owner of a hostel I deal with complaints once in a while also.
We try to make it right for everybody, but we also make mistakes
and sometimes you just have to accept a compromise to get it right
for the majority of your guests. But in any case its most con-
structive to voice concerns directly with the place that you had
a problem with. Flaming a business on this forum to me seems more
of a retaliation than a honest approach to mend a problem. And
that still is a true statement if the complaint is with a cause.

alternative - save on room and spend it better Hi, please visit www.sahlmann.net to learn about SunCity.
Its a progressive and clean guesthouse with excellent
customer atention. We are 2 blocks from the beach in
Santa Marta, close to nightlife spots. This option is
your most economical (10 USD per night per person). Our
beds are comfortable and the rooms are inviting. There
is space at the lobby to hang out. Save 50 USD or more
every night on accomodation and spend it on whatever you
like: drinks, souvenirs, tours, company

psahlmann comments on For Rent: Hotel rooms in Sta. Marta

speeds Hi Principe
The speed is the regular Telecom Broadband (DSL).
In theory 100 MBPS, but it will depend on how many
other clients are connected and what they do. If
more than 2 are up/downloading MP3 or the like
then the speed is obviously less. But from what
I tested its quite acceptable.

psahlmann comments on Colombians in Washington, D.C.?

colombians in northern VA Hi, my wife (Samaria) and I (wannabe Samario) live in Reston, VA.
Are you Colombian? We just moved here and my wife would be excited
to make friends with other Latinas.

psahlmann comments on How to get a colombian passport?

permit vs passport NuevoCartagenero, as long as the italian allow dual then I
would go for it. It works as Gator describes, just that the
maximum stay abroad is 6 months, not 90 days. I am in a
similar situation as you and solved it by making sure not
to loose residence by poppin in to Colombia every 6 months.
I will be as proud on my Colombian Citizenship as my wife
is with her new Swiss Passport.
When you do business in Colombia, it may help (taxes, etc.)
not to be a foreign national.

psahlmann comments on Another one needs advice on buying property (Medellin, Bogota, or Cartagena?)

purchase of property I recommend you follow up on real estate auctions held
by the banks. They are advertised in the newspaper and
tipically you get a very good deal. It also gives you
the chance to inspect/select the object of your liking
and then have a local strawman at the auction to avoid
overly pricing. I was lucky enough to be the only one
interested and got my property for real cheap. I will
buy another this or next year. Waiting for auctions...

Patrick
ps same as in the US it is always a good idea to make
sure what you buy is free of liabilities (taxes,
utilities). another reason to buy with a bank as
they normally clear a place from sceletons before
going about liquidation

psahlmann comments on Any Safe Suggestions for Fun in Santa Marta?

your place to stay in Santa Marta Hi, traditionally travellers hang out at Miramar.
The place is very cheap and ideal for the hard
core budget traveller. If you want a lot more
comfort for just a few bucks more come stay with
us when in Santa Marta. We organise tour guides
or give you directions on where you can venture
out by yourself.

psahlmann comments on vacation in Santa Marta or...?

here is where to stay in SMR Hi, for the beach person Cartagena will be to stressy
(load of sales guys) and for all gringos the trips to
cuidad perdida (sierra nevada) could be dangerous so
we would suggest you travel BOG-CTG, check out the
must sees there and then catch a bus (4 hrs) to SMR.
Here you do the Colombian life thing, incl. a 2-3 days
trip to Tayrona park. Whilst protection is always good,
I have never used any injections prior to going there.

Our place is close to the SMR nightlive scene, so if you
come here please pop in to say hello.

psahlmann comments on Preparing for your trip to Colombia

Hotel Sun City Hi Cristina
SunCity is located on calle 18 between carrera 3rd and 4th.
That is at the Centro Historico in Downtown. All our rooms
have either vents or aircon. The aircon are individual units
so its up to the guest to set the temperature.
We had thought of doing a central aircon because its cheaper
but then decided not to for exactly the reason you mention:
you cant make it right for every guest with a central unit.
During peak season (1st half of Jan, Easter, mid Jun to mid Jul)
the room is 35'000 per person per night (children dont pay).
Offseason its 25'000. Where there is more than 1 person in a
room, there is a discount schedule.
Thanks for your enquiry! I hope to welcome you as a guest
someday and would be greatful if you will recommend us.

Kind regards

psahlmann comments on Preparing for your trip to Colombia

Stay at Santa Marta Hi Maqa
Rodadero is rather expensive and lacks caracter.
Tanganga is nice for the day but boring at night.
I suggest you stay at Sta Marta. Avoid calle 10
(Miramar) as its not safe, you are invited to be
our guest at Sun City Hotel (see www.sahlmann.net)
Regards
Patrick
