protocol13 comments on President Gore

Gore: Who cares what he does and thinks. I don't. He is a has been. Our family used to be Democrats and we no longer are and that is precisely because they make decisions based on impulse and what they perceive as creating propaganda for themselves. It is interesting that Bill Clinton did meet with Uribe in Cartagena last month and the likes of NBC, CBS and ABC did not say anything about it.

protocol13 comments on colombianos: digan no a la inmigracion

protocol13 comments on Colombian voters, despite violence, elect Congress

Regading Chavez and Venezuela I invite those who support this dictator to check out Human Right Watch Venezuela website which indicates how is curbing freedom and human rights.

http://hrw.org/doc?t=americas&c=venezu

Also, last year Norway television had a min-documentary on the terrible conditions that Venezuela is in under Chavez. I posted the website to look at this documentary some time ago.

For those that wanted to know, Colombians don't go to live in Venezuela anymore. Mos of those Colombians that live there now, moved to Venezuela several years ago.

protocol13 comments on Colombian voters, despite violence, elect Congress

Turnout for this election was about 40% with still about 4.5% precincts or locations to be counted 10,350,409 out of about 26 million registered voters. For the senate/house elctions, the turnout is better than the average for this type of elections. For all non-presidential elections held from 1978 to 2002, the average voter turnout was 33.77% which is bad.
So the voter turnout for this election had 18% increase in turnout over the average. The source for historical voter turnout in Colombian elections is "observatorio Electoral". Of interest is that during the same time frame, average voter turnout for Colombian presidential elections is 39.51% or about 17% higher than for non-presidential elections. The current trend is toward an increase in voter turnout for all elections.

protocol13 comments on 4 advantages of having surgery in Colombia

Gringoinbogota: My coworker's son was diagnosed for cancer. His parents took him to what is the best doctors and best hospital in LA - LA Children's Hospital. After 1.5 years of mistreatment, misdiagnosis and almost 1 million dollars in insuarnce charges and copayments by the parents, the child died. Due the the low monetary limitations placed on medical malpractice, my friend has been unable to get an attorney. Even here in the USA, there are nightmare incidents involving doctors negligence and malpractice.

protocol13 comments on 4 advantages of having surgery in Colombia

The coworker that is in charge of the Personnel department at the company I work for, had a Lasik Eye operation done by a US doctor in the Los Angeles area and had a terrible experience. She's had two additional operations to try to correct the prior ones ane now she needs three pair of glasses - for reading for driving and for working on the computer.

protocol13 comments on What would it take?

Cali373 Argentina's population is about 38 million (not 20 million), Venezuela's 26 million and Chile's closer to 16 million. Venezuela's population growth rate is about the same as Colombia 1.5%, Chile's is 1.2% and Argentina's 1%. Data was taking from the EB yearbook.

protocol13 comments on Colombian voters, despite violence, elect Congress

The big losers in today's Colombian Elections are the FARC/ELN, Liberal party, Peñalosa, Mockus, and those who favor the appeasement toward FARC/ELN like Arias which was not elected. The big winners where Uribe and the parties that support him and the Conservative party's #2 results higher than expected and higher than than the Liberal party.

protocol13 comments on FARC website and its Swiss host!

In South America, there are other countries that are considered poorer than Colombia, yet, its people had not supported (or had the need) of a terrorist guerilla to overthrow their governments. Bolivia, Ecuador and Paraguay are these type of examples.

On the other hand, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Peru had problems with urban and rural communist guerillas and it took forceful violence on the part of those military governments (except Peru)to eliminate them.

protocol13 comments on Ban ANNCOL?

Perhaps, Ignoring is not the answer. By Denmark allowing these terrorist supporters to continue, they are given them an air of legitimacy to kidnapping, violence, terrorism, drug trafficking and land mine usage.
In the US, all those Islamic charity groups that support the Middle East terrorist groups such Al-Qaida, HAMAS, Hezbollah, etc have been banned and several of the organizers are under arrest or are under investigation.

protocol13 comments on Uribe good for Colombia?

Read the topic about Uribe named leader of the year 2005. It will answer your questions. Uribe has been responsible for turning back the tide of foreign investments leaving Colombia and reducing unemployment, reducing red tape for business owners, increasing exports and eliminating the trade deficit, etc.... The aformentioned article is very extensive and very informative. Those who dislike Uribe, will not like the detailed article that has verifiable and reliable facts and sources.

protocol13 comments on Albaro Uribe, Nominated Leader of the Year 2005 by Latin Business Chronicle

Plan Colombia has been in operation since the Clinton Administration. Inspite of it, Pastrana was a complete disaster. Actually and others have mentioned, Plan Colombia was designed to eliminate or reduce the illegal drug business and at that has been unsucessful.

protocol13 comments on When will Colombia be war free?

Ingird for President? Her qualifications for president leaves a lot to be desired, when she
made the most stupid decision of visiting the FARC controlled areas or perhaps it was her long term plan to bring her simpathy in France/Colombia and convince the village idiots to vote for her.

protocol13 comments on Uribe to run again

Per El Tiempo and CaracolTV Constitutional Court has allowed Uribe to run for reelection in the next presidential election -2006. The ruling on the "law of electoral guarantees" will not be an impediment to prevent Uribe for seeking the presidency in 2006.

protocol13 comments on URIBE FOR REELECTION IN 2010 (JUST NOT NOW!!!)

Excellent decision on the part of the Constitutional Court. Let the Colombian voters decide if they want Uribe reelected.

protocol13 comments on Football

The Australian feels that Uruguay is harder team to beat than Colombia. Although the S/A world cup elimination is over and Uruguay is the team that will face Australia, I think that Colombia will have been much harder for Australia. In fact, After Maturana was fired with the national team not winning any of its first four games, the statistics indicate that Colombia was the third best team after Argentina and Brasil, with the third best offense (22 goals for) and the best defense (8 goals allowed)and third best goal differential at +14. Colombia played a great game in tying Brazil in Brazil. The Argentine sports commentator for ESPN in his final comments about the S/A w/c eliminations stated that it was unfortunate that the third best team in South America did not qualify due to Colombia's soccer players not using the "H" factor when it was needed.

protocol13 comments on Looking for ColombianoX

It is unfortunate that society is now controlled by the political correct group that makes it hard to criticize anything without being called a racists or anti this or anti that.

protocol13 comments on Looking for ColombianoX

Guillermo Restrepo/Hammer Londoño and Ricardo Mayorga. Don't know much about Restrepo's departure, but Hammer Londoño (on Spanish radio) and Ricardo Mayorga (on Telemundo/Univision), had a similar confrontations with the Mexican listeners over what many of them felt was too harsh criticism of Mexico or its National team or its idol Hugo Sanchez or Mexican sports in general. At times, Londoño received several phone calls from the Mexican listeners stating that they where going to pressure the radio station to fire him. He replied that no amount of pressure will make him change his opinion to conform to the will of this certain group. Mayorga suffered a similar fate and was the subject of immense campaign in the form of calls, letters and postings on the Univision website that wanted him to be fired for being anti-Mexican.
It is unfortunate that the Spanish radio stations and Television stations that although located in the USA and the mayority stock is owned by non-Mexicans, have bended to pressures of Mexican activists and their cohorts and stooges.

protocol13 comments on Plan Colombia: I want your opinion

GringoinBogota For what it is worth, the person who started this thread is named Taylor. In any case, to assume that the opinions that are expressed by the likes of Platano in BPH - Colombia, is that of Colombians is wrong, as he does not reflect my opinion and that of many other Colombians, in just about any issue. Among the circle of friends and relatives, many of which are of Colombian birth(like myself), Platano's and Quindioman's opnions will be the minority viewpoint.

protocol13 comments on Columbia

At the Univision forum There is a constant arguments between South Americans and Mexicans over the proper spelling of Mexico, because South Americans prefer Mejico rather than Mexico. Mexicans get really angry and feel that Mejico is like an insult.

There is more to life than to get bent out of shape over which is proper - Mexico or Mejico.

protocol13 comments on Columbia

Colombia, was named after Cristopher Columbus (Spanish is Cristobal Colon). Regarding native Indian languages, only 1% in Colombia are of Indian extraction and perhaps even less speak native Indian languages (just about the same as the USA). As for myself, I was born in Colombia, and frankly, it does not bother me if somebody wants to spell Colombia, Columbia or Kolumbia or whatever, as it is all because of language difference.
The Chinese say it "kaolunbiyai."

protocol13 comments on What is PBH really about?

protocol13 comments on Colombia to Limit Import of Chinese Textile Products

ws244 Just because some of the Colombian members in BPH flood it with anti-US propaganda, does not mean that everybody else is anti-US. If you check the postings on the Yahoo news regarding Mexico or blacks, one will think that Americans are racists and that is not case. It is a few of those that have a lot of time in their hands, that post all this hatred.
Although most of my family is Colombian by birth most of of us are now US citizens. We are part of that silent mayority that does not go into BPH or other similar groups to let our views be known. We do
love the US and believe this nation and in the mayority of cases have tried to do a lot more good than bad (unlike Russia or China or Germany or ...).

protocol13 comments on ELN admits to accidently murdering two priests and two civilians

Some of the posters' s opinions remind me of how ridiculously slanted their opinions are. When it comes to the US it is the worst of all attrocities. Like the Arab news media that thinks that making prisoners stand naked is the worst of all attrocities, even a thousand times worst than beheading civilians or planting bombs in a crowded theater like in Moscow or crashing planes against buildings or using suicide bombers in buses full of children nd/or civilians in Israel or planting a bomb in a synagoge in Buenos Aires or.....

protocol13 comments on ABC Nightline Friday 9/16/05--T. Koppel to interview Venezuela H. Chavez

For another perspective on Chavez, check out Venezuelan Cardinal Rosalio Castillo's interview by El Tiempo of July 30, 2005, in which he calls Chavez a paranoid dictator. Also check out, Human Rights Watch's reports on Chaves' continuous restriction of freedom of expression.

http://eltiempo.terra.com.co/poli/2005-07-31/ARTICULO-PRINTER_FRIENDLY-_PRINTER_FRIENDLY-2165302.html

The proposal to create a new Human Rights Council with more authority and that can sit throughout the year, review human rights in all countries and address all human rights situations is intended to be a key achievement of the World Summit. It has won the endorsement of an overwhelming majority of states from all regions of the world. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch expressed grave concern, however, that some 15 countries led by Cuba and including Venezuela, Myanmar, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Belarus, Vietnam, and Syria, were blocking any movement on this important reform. It is amazing that
Venezuela has joined Cuba in opposing the proposal. What is it that they fear.

protocol13 comments on Frustrated U.S. Finds Few Willing to Join Anti-Chavez Coalition

Platano The Southwest US was in Mexican hands for only about three decades. Before that it belong to Spain and before that to various Amerindian tribes. There was a war and Mexico lost (not stolen). So what, it is part of the past and now is now and the Southwest have been part of the US a lot longer than the miserly few years it was under Mexico.
Throughout history, countries have taken land away from other countries just like Peru with Ecuador, or Chile with Peru and Bolivia, or Colombia with Peru or Russia with several countries or....
So what. What matters is the present and who is control of those lands. These Mexicans should obey inmigration laws and not try to cross illegally accross the desert area. They know what can happen and therefore, they are solely responsible for whatever happens to them.

You may be asuming that others in other countries will not be involved in a legalized drug business and will not give each other a run for the money. I can see Mexicans or Americans (remember California and Hawaii's #1 crop is marijuana, Missouri is #1 in meth production)or Nigerians or Peruvians or Bolivians or Vietnamese or Philippines or.... giving the FARC/ELN/AUC or any other group in Colombia competition for the drug business. What will be the effect of this competition? The highlands of Bolivia and Peru are better for coca plant production than in Colombia , whereas Mexico and Nigeria are closer to the demand market of the USA and Europe, and Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Burma and Vietnam have thousands of years of experience in producing more efficient poppy fields. Recently a former DEA agent and a current Judge, that support drug legalization, got interviewed at a local radio station in Los Angeles and they gave the main reason for legalization being the present failure of drug policies and the immense corrupcion that it brings. In the USA, bankers, soldiers, diplomats, DEA agents, policemen, judges, politicians, custom agents among others have been arrested for drug trafficking. It is time for drastic change as current international drug policies are simply a complete failure.

Sr Tertious Your sacasm is idiotic. Try another.
The Brazilian been shot by the English police was an unfortunate mistake, which, the same can not be said about what Castro has done to his political prisoners or Pot Pol or Mao or Stalin.

protocol13 comments on Amnesty International Requests Colombia's Assistance in Prosecuting USA War Criminals

Amnesty may show that it is critical of dictators like Castro,Chavez or Kim, but, not with the same fervor that they show toward the right wing dictators like Pinochet.
The UN has shown its hypocrisy by naming a Sudanese government representative to be a member of the Human Rights commission. The Muslim Sudanese government is reponsible for the current genoicide against the mostly Christian and black South Sudan. How ridiculous can that be. The United Nations condemns regularly Israel , but, is silent on the terrorism committed by the Palestinians Hamas and other terrorist groups. Long ago, I gave up on the UN moral power, because, they have absolutely none.

Slanted newmedia like the LA Times usually report these type of article in the back pages of the newspaper. I recalled that incident in Arauca in which the Colombian Army was involved in which peasants where killed, it was not only frontline news, but, they had an investigative reporter provide a three page article. The article on the priests's murders by the ELN was no front page news , it was rather a small article, back page news. If it is an attrocity by the left terrorists, it may be reported, but, usually an abbreviated article and/or in the backand I mean back pages of the paper.

If only Amnesty International and others were more impartial. It is not only the Pincochett from the right, but, leftwing dictators.

They should condemn Hugo Chavez for aiding and abetting the criminals members of FARC/ELN, like Rodriguo Granda, Diego Serna and others. Same with Fidel Castro, he should be prosecuted and arrested for crimes committed agaisnt the Cubans and for aiding, abetting and fomenting terrorism in Colombia and other South American nations.
