PoorButHappy comments on shipping from Miami? DON'T USE J.J. LOGISTICS! Way too many complaints in the past year. Lost or missing items, phone calls not returned, etc. etc.

PoorButHappy comments on iPod Repair There is an iStore (Authorized Apple Service Center) located in the San Fernando Plaza in Poblado. I took my iPod there and they replaced it with a new one because it was under warranty. They have also repaired my MacBook Pro, also under warranty. I'm not sure if they do repairs onsite but I bet they can direct you to someone if they don't.

PoorButHappy comments on What Happened to the Charlee or the Charly in Medellin? I was in Lleras today and walked by the hotel Charlee and what I saw was they were working on the third floor (two floors were subterranean). I spoke with a worker on site and he said they should have another floor up by next week and they are scheduled to do about one floor every week and a half.

PoorButHappy comments on Anybody know of any good shipping companies from FL to Medellin JJ Logistics, specifically Rafael, still has not answered my callls and it`s been about a month now. For that reason and all the reasons pointed out it medefockinllin`s thread is reason enough not to use them. As brought out in previous comments, when things are going fine they are as nice and courteous as anyone could be but once a problems surfaces they disappear. Not the type of company I could recommend to anyone!

PoorButHappy comments on Anybody know of any good shipping companies from FL to Medellin Don't use J.J. Logistics! I have a problem with a shipment to them and now Rafael is not picking up calls or responding to phone messages or emails.

PoorButHappy comments on So tell me something DodgerDogs... If there is so much resentment for Uribe why is his approval rating so high?
|
|
PoorButHappy comments on I said "for the most part". What that means is I don't just associate with them 100% of the time, meaning I have been known to mingle with the barrio crowd too. The "real Colombia" is not limited to the poor barrios. The wealth in Colombia, as most know, is not spread throughout its population but limited to only a few percent of the people and thus the vast majority of the people are poor and of course resent those who are wealthy or perceived to be. That being said I will agree there is resentment from a segment of the Colombian population albeit the poorest of the poor.

|
PoorButHappy comments on I for one visit and live in the real Colombia and not the sex tourist traps mentioned above and not one of the people I know resent Uribe. To the contrary, they think he has done an incredible job under the circumstances while he's been in office. They would not be opposed to him running for a third term nor would they be opposed to Sergio running, although most feel Sergio lacks the experience necessary for the office of President. Santos would also be received as a good choice. I live in Medellin and associate, for the most part, with upper strato folks. They don't mind paying higher taxes because with the higher taxes came better security etc. Frankly, if you go to the poor barrios they would probably much rather have Pablo back because of his generosity to the poor etc. That being said, I personally would like to see Farjardo give it a run even if he is perceived not to have the experience for the Presidency. He did an incredible job with Medellin and I think he could do it on a much larger scale given the opportunity and the support.

PoorButHappy comments on Isla Palma off the coast of Cartagena. They have an all inclusive hotel by the name of Decameron on the Island. Small and remote and definitely not too touristy. http://www.decameron.com/eng/colombia/isla_palma/overview.html

PoorButHappy comments on Interpreter Service/ Translation Services Where in Colombia and does this translator need to accompany you or can it be done via the internet?

PoorButHappy comments on Cost of living in Medellin I seriously doubt if you found a furnished apto. in Poblado for "1.5 or cheaper". You can find unfurnished apartments all day long for "1.5 or cheaper" but then be prepared to open your wallet and bend over when it comes to furnishing it and fitting it with all the necessary appliances etc. Yes, a gym membership is expensive.

PoorButHappy comments on Baru Looking for clean lodging with great food nearby. Something along a nice white sandy beach with crystal clear water to take a morning swim would be preferred.

PoorButHappy comments on Need a business (negocio) visa for Colombia? Talk to me You can only stay in the country six months per year on a business visa. That means you can come for one month, two, three etc. but no more than six months in a twelve month period. I'm surprised they didn't tell you that when you obtained your visa.

PoorButHappy comments on For sale in Medellin, but must be FAST!! TV's, furniture, gym equipment and etc. Lots of great stuff from the states!! The reason gringos won't pay jack's ridiculously high prices is because they can get this stuff in the states all day long and bring it down as checked luggage. Piece of cake actually! The reason mr. jack paid so much to get the stuff down here is because he brought it all down at the same time. I seriously doubt if there is anyone on this board who is interested in buying ALL of his stuff so again I say cut your prices in half and watch your stuff disappear "FAST"! He also didn't do his homework with some of the stuff because you can find it for much less than he says he paid for it. I found the bathroom exhaust fans for $100 usd each and he says he paid over $160 usd. Not our fault you screwed up and paid too much!

PoorButHappy comments on Rumba en Semana!! Parque Lleras 20,000 just to enter the Barking Spider? You've got to be kidding right?

|
PoorButHappy comments on Great Place to Have Lunch in Medellin! (Cheap & Tasty) There are dozens of these small places popping up all with similar pricing. Try Pasta del Amor, two locations in Medellin. Try the place, La Parrillita (of something close) right across the street from the restaurant featured above. La Parrita has half pound hamburgers for only 10,000, every day and they are far better than the Barking Spiders hamburgers! Although it's hard to beat Al's 2 for 1 hamburgers on Wednesday's. If he would only bring down the price of his draft beers (Tres Cordilleras). Then there's the restaurant across the street from Ilforno where on Thursday they serve filet mignon for 11,000 (it's the all white place that doesn't allow men at dinner time unless accompanied by a female but for lunch you can enter if only guys. Too bad La Grappa closed, they had three course meals plus a glass of wine for around 10,000 also. Seek and yee shall find dozens and dozens of these kinds of places.

PoorButHappy comments on For sale in Medellin, but must be FAST!! TV's, furniture, gym equipment and etc. Lots of great stuff from the states!! I second what the "Z" man said above. It appears you are not wanting a "FAST" sell as you claim. Example; You are offering to sell 2 Panasonic bathroom exhaust fans that are advertised all over the net at $100.00 USD each yet you want $350,000 COP's each or almost $170 USD. jack, please tell me you're delusional or you have some emotional attachment with these items and then i'll understand why it is you're asking crazy prices for stuff that you supposedly want to sell "FAST"? Just because you overpaid for things doesn't mean we buyers need to follow in your footsteps. If you truly need to sell this stuff "FAST" then I strongly suggest you cut your prices in half otherwise you will be sitting on them for a very long time. Good luck!

PoorButHappy comments on Gotten mugged in Medellín i just spent half a day in el hueco and not a problem to be found. it's not my first visit there and definitely not my last, actually been down there over a half dozen times. i believe there might be something missing to this story. maybe the op can give more details as to his location etc. there are always tons of people walking about and not once have i encountered anything like the op has stated happened. maybe it's because i'm 6' 2" and 260 lbs and the op is 5' 7" and 140 lbs i really don't know.

PoorButHappy comments on Anyone recommend a good lawyer in Miami? Need to claim against JJ Logistics thanks.. I actually met with Rafael Restrepo yesterday here in Medellin. He seemed like an upstanding guy and really wants to help me. He's even volunteered to go to the airport with me next week to pick up the first load of my things. I appreciate your advice and will be guided accordingly. thanks again!

PoorButHappy comments on Anyone recommend a good lawyer in Miami? Need to claim against JJ Logistics actually medefockin i simply wanted you to respond and it appeared my ploy worked. no hard feelings but i really needed you to answer because i had already shipped items to them just prior to your original post and after reading it i became concerned. the second shipment i need to send them has a value of almost $10,000 USD so you can see why it was important I know about the final results of your situation. again sorry to have ruffled your feathers.

PoorButHappy comments on Apartment El Ploblado, Medellin 2 years new LOTS of upgrades! jack: thanks for the info. but i will have to pass on this one. 1. 5th floor equals poor view... and too close to the chickens below = don't want to wake at 5:00 a.m. with the roosters 2. rooms are waaaaay too small... master is roughly 10' x 12 feet = tiny 3. other rooms including the living room are even smaller = yikes! 4. ceiling height only 7 1/2 feet... i would feel like i'm living in a cave = pass, don't like that claustrophobic feeling 5. width of bathroom doors... at a hair over two feet wide i would have to turn sideways just to enter the bathroom = no thanks 6. width of bedroom doors... where i'm renting now has bath doors 25.5" wide and I almost have to turn sideways to enter those = again no thanks! 7. i like the fact you have a decent sized balcony but unfortunately with that being the only acceptable thing about your place I will definitely keep looking. thanks for your time.

PoorButHappy comments on lots of murders still happening in medellin. no room for bodies lpdiver says on Jul 8, 2009, 15:21 (today): flag This is great news...maybe it will scare off the gringo tourists and real estate prices will continue to plummet!!! lpdiver: thanks for the belly laugh! i haven't laughed that hard in a long while. please keep those words of wisdom coming.

PoorButHappy comments on Zoltar's Speak - Medellin Report again i concur with the widowman... whitewidow says on Jul 8, 2009, 12:02 (today): flag the pricetag explains the proliferation of the autos. however i might add that the fuel mileage that little cockroach gets has something to do with it's popularity here in medellin, especially with the price of fuel.
|
|
PoorButHappy comments on Zoltar's Speak - Medellin Report i concur with widowman... 200 M2 is not anywhere close to being a "GIANT HOUSE" hell my mexican shack is almost 1000 M2 and it's not the biggest in my neighborhood.

PoorButHappy comments on Apartment El Ploblado, Medellin 2 years new LOTS of upgrades! jackh4u: thanks for the pm but i'm confused as to why you didn't simply answer ALL of my questions in this forum or at least in the pm. btw, i know the building very well and yes it's a nice building. additional items i want to know is if the apartment faces loma los gonzales or the back side (which is soooooo much quieter)? you mention above the building has 18 floors but i swear i stayed on the 19th floor on one occasion. please let me know the floor and location, front side or back, and maybe some better photos. if at that point i am still interested i will call you and arrange for a viewing. thanks
