pilotguy comments on Bull, not easy, you have to stand in lines at each place. It is absolutely difficult here, not the same as US . But , you will get used to it. Your bills are hand delivered to your domicile and you go to certain locations to bay. Simple , but not real easy. This is an understandable question for you and should not be chastised for such a question.

Can anyone imagine how difficult the job is "president of Colombia". Live here, experience here and make judgements here. I am a gringo and unfortunately cannot vote for presidential elections. But, if I could, I would vote for Uribe. Don't change presidents during a war. At least not every 4 years. Maybe 6 year terms. We broke concrete and used power saws, etc. Dirty, dusty. They complained, we continued, then we offered 90 days cash equal to rent, They left. It is very tough to get out renters here. I found out after police and lawyers. Joe

pilotguy comments on I live here. I have observed what american says. I own a company here. I try to employ and try to be fair. The work ethic here is poor. I am sad to say this. I live here permanently and hope to better my adopted country. However, whenever there is a chance to not work. Colombians do not. I hate to generalize and this is always an error. Not sure of all the facts obviously. As an ex soldier, I have a twitch of concern for how this happened. If it is coruption, they should be punished. I say "sell it". ship what is absoulutely necessary by air. I can tell you 10 paragraphs of this nightmare, but I will simply say... do yourself a favor and dont' ship a household of furniture here. I have a nephew. went to naval academy. After graduation, they assigned him to river interdiction patrols. HIs father immediately bought him out of military. 2 weeks after graduation from Naval Academy here in Colombia. Joe

Discuss each issue clearly and then do it again. Also, try to speak to the consulate himself after you have hung around a bit. We got a lot of bad information before we moved here from the clerks, well... maybe not so bad, but misunderstand , not exactly correct and was surprised a lot when we got here. joe

pilotguy comments on Driving and pedestrian discipline in Colombia. I have a driver. I sent him to driving school. When he finished the private school he got a drivers license. The state does not test him, the school that is paid for the lessons simply gets the license issued without a state test.. After he was "licensed", l spent 3 weeks and 30 hours teaching him to drive. When the state does not test a student driver, there is the potential for bad drivers. Look around. I remember viet nam in 1968, the drivers were much better. This is simply a fact. My insurance rates are very high, no surprise. Same with motrocycle licenses. Bought my driver a moto, he got his license without driver testing. Watch the Motos, it is really scary. Now let me finish with, "I love this country" and I think safer drivers would obviously make for safer roads. Let's teach it. enough raving. Joe

pilotguy comments on Bad Things About Colombia. Absolutely exact same experiences. I have been here one year. Have a registered company, Cedula, DIAN tax number. Have bought and sold property. Dealt with the banks, cell phones, camera commercial, DIAN is all the same exactly as you say. However, I think it has much to do with only the management knowing very much. They do not trust or do not train underlings. This is frustrating. I have made contacts with each boss at each location, more or less, some left to do. They cut directly thru the crap. I do not stand in line for telephone,banking, cell phone or other. I do not mean to indicate that I think that I am special. This has been simply self preservation on my part. With all this said. I also, am tired of the compainers, whiners, no money foks and know it alls on this sites. When some poor guy comes on with a dumb question he is blasted. Let us remember how it was before we came here, what we did not know. Enough preaching from me. I AGREE WITH ALL C.G.
