Cartagena....another year...more disappointment

Honestly, this year I went to Cartagena only to try and show my brother a good time... didn't want him to go there alone with my grandparents "wink" if you know what I mean. Anyways, the hotel was nice but that was about it. The beach in Boca Grande is filled with human mosquito's...instead of sucking your blood dry they aim for your wallet. I didn't even want to be near the water because that's where the swarm of human mosquito's tend to roam...near the tent chairs...I easily fixed the situatio ...

For example, music similar to like Lucas Arnau: Te doy mi Vida or Juanes If you don't have a mix setup but have like a favorite song just pst. the name and song of the artist and I'l youtube it. Which means that this summer I am spending July 4th away from home so I was wondering if there were any other Americans celebrating in either Armenia, Medellin this summer? ...you know if your planning a party you could throw an invite my way P.S. Do they have any E ...

EVERY GRINGO IS FABIO IN COLOMBIA!

After living here for about 3 months I have to say, I feel like Fabio.

I may not have Fabio`s eurotrash accent or his body that makes him a male sex symbol worldwide...but there have been moments here in which me and Fabio are one in the same.

It sounds crazy but when I talk with girls they immediately ask

Did you come here with anyone?
Do you have a novia?
Do you want a girlfriend?

The first week I was here in Armenia, ...

Cartagena Needs Taxi Meters

Am I the only Gringo that has to pay outrageously expensive cab fares? The minimum price of everywhere I go in Cartagena is 10,000 pesos...There needs to be some type of regulation like Bogota.

Cartagena is a very beautiful city with probably the best jugo in all of Colombia. However the thing that bothers me is the greed taxi drivers have here...they should all become wall street stock brokers.

I even consider some of the taxi drivers here like magicians with tri ...

JAVERIANA

Well it turns out that Universidad del Norte doesnt offer Spanish courses for internationals wishing to learn the language during the fall or spring semester (only a one month program druing the summer). :(

So instead of a hot climate with a beach in view I turned inward at the capital of Colombia (Bogota). There is a university that offers Spanish for those wishing to learn it called Javeriana and I was wondering what your thoughts would be on that institution?

I DONT WANT A UNIBROW

Okay,
My friend from Bogota was telling me the other day that if you pluck or twease your eyebrow many consider that to be gay or transexual. This information discourages me a bit. I wouldnt want to be considered a homosexual or transexual because I dislike the idea of having a unibrow. Is that the case in Colombia? If I go and get rid of my unibrow they would think negatively of me because of that...

Personal grooming is a good thing I thought. Here in the USA (wel ...

Who you calling a GRINGO?

What classifies someone in Colombia to be considered a gringo?

Is it purely based on skin color (white ect...) or does there happen to be more to it? For example in the U.S. I am classified as hispanic (South American w/e) so I dont consider myself a gringo and I have a tan and get darker in the summmer. Check my pictures. However in Colombia because of my status as an American would I automatically be identified with gringo?

Like is gringo only labeled to white ...

Who Am I?

Hey,
it's me again. I wrote a forum topic earlier about studying Spanish for a year at the Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla. My mom has been going through the "motherly motions" lately and does not want me to go ( I'm the first born by the way) for safety concerns. Im having a little trouble explaining to her why studying Spanish in Colombia means so much to me.

She is basically trying to persuade me right now to study Spanish in Spain. As a mother she s ...
