PhotoGringo comments on What is life in Colombia like? Colombian residency. First off, I'm a retired Mech. Eng.from Calif., married to a Colombiana for 8 years. I lived in Pereira for 5 years, owned a computer store while my wife was still working as a manager of a savings and loan co. My wife is from a professional family in Medellin (father is retired M.D.) and has 6 brothers and sisters living there. For this reason we decided to purchase a lot in a Parcelization and build our retirement home. This we did one year ago some 35 miles outside of Medellin. I spend most of my free time photographing the beauty's of Colombia. I have had the pleasure of travelling to some unbelievable places here, including the Caribbean Coast, the Park de Nevados in San Luis some 15,000 ft. above sea level above Manizales. I have travelled the "valley" from one end to the other and enjoy all parts of Colombia. Next week I am spending a week in Covenas on the Caribbean Coast. Fortunately, I have a wife who speaks very good English and have all my residency papers. I have never felt threatened or uneasy in Colombia, although I don't give "papaya" either. Just be gracious and friendly and you will be surprised how amiable Colombians are..
