peteyw comments on Increased Legal Protection For Women

huskie wrote: "Peteyw: Wow, what a SOB!!! Did she ever reported him to someone? Labor Dept, Police? Umm... Costenos after all, they treat women so awfully bad." To my knowledge she just told a few friends, including myself. It was colaborated by a co-worker of hers. The co-worker said that after she left the office you could hear a pin drop, the boss went into his office and didn't come out the rest of the day and he didn't come into work the rest of the week (everyone assumed he was too afraid). As far as I no there were no consequenses for the boss. She's married to my friend and living in Texas since last June.

peteyw comments on Increased Legal Protection For Women

A vibrator is insulting, but I've heard worse. A woman I know here was b**ch slapped by her boss at work in front of everybody. She worked for a travel agency at the airport here in Cartagena. His justification was that she was not working fast enough, so he slapped the daylights out of her. She left and never went back. She asked me not to tell her fiance a Gringo friend of mine why she quit her job, because she didn't know what his reaction would be. This happened just a year or so ago.

peteyw comments on Increased Legal Protection For Women

"If you break up with a woman and hurt her self image and make her feel bad about herself, are you now a criminal? How much time will men get in the clink for breaking up?" I agree with billyb; we are all for the protection of women, but that law blows! All the woman has to do is lie and the guy is screwed. I've met some pretty good actresses in my day. What about my rights as a man or person now? What happens if we break up and the woman makes me feel bad about myself and hurts my self image? If she says "Petey you're fat, old, bald, you have a little weiner and you're bad in bed", can I have her thrown in the Greybar Hotel, too?

peteyw comments on Lakers Vs. Celtics (Who's going to win?)

I respect yours also Lcacique. You're right, the Lakers were lackluster last night;, but still pulled it out. That game was not the deciding game to me, the Lakers were going to win last night no matter what. Game 4 will tell the tale, if the Lakers can not win in a dominant fashion, (not by score neccessarily, but by dominant play); then we know they are doomed. If they win with another lackluster effort at home then I don't see them winning a single game in Boston. And its time for the Lakers to lay some wood, this playoff series won't even get started for the Lakers until someone on that team hard fouls Garnett and Pierce. Where's Bill Lambier? Maybe he can give Luke and Pau and quick lesson in the "pop and flop".

peteyw comments on Lakers Vs. Celtics (Who's going to win?)

Sorry to disagree. Watch the tape of that game and you'll see that the refs were the ones who didn't call fouls when the Lakers shooters were mugged. It was the refs who called fouls whenever the Lakers breathed too heavily on the Celtics' shooters. I've been around, I understand the NBA and don't mind refs giving the home team calls, that's to be expected, but the loopsidedness and obviousness of the foul calling was in the finals was a disgrace. I never claimed that "God's rays shined down" after Pierce went down and that's why Boston won the first game. What I said was after Pierce went down, the Lakers went flat and it was very weird because normally when a team loses their big gun, its not the opposing team that loses their focus in that situation. And I didn't say that Boston won because of officiating in game two, what I said was it was the worst officiated finals game I've ever seen. We'll never know who would have won if the officiating had been more balanced. As for Powe, him shooting more free throws in just 14 minutes of play than the entire Lakers team did the entire game, would make me stay away from him whenever he had the ball too. Heck, the refs are gonna call you if you lightly touch this 'almost rookie' so you back off the guy and he goes coast-to-coast. You see his stats last night in LA? with refs calling a more balanced game Powe was back to his reality. And lastly, I'll repeat what I said ealier. While I think the Lakers will take it, I am a Bulls fan and have no love for Boston and couldn't care less about the Lakers. If I had to go with my heart, I would have choosen the Celtics only because I want Garnett to have a ring. Seeing as how Garnett and I both grew up in the same neighborhood and he went to the local High School; I'd go with the home town boy and root for the Celtics. But I'm not using my heart, feelings or sensations. I'm just a neutral b-ball fan watching the games and calling it like I see it.

peteyw comments on No Obama, No McCain...Who's your write in candidate?

How's this for a presidential debate, the Democratic and Republican Nominees along with several write in candidates. Candidates: Senator Obama, Senator McCain, Reagan's Ghost, Jeffrey 'The Dude' Lebowski and Nancy Reagan. Moderator: Bob Schieffer Fist Debate Question: Moderator: To each of the candidates; how would you answer this question.... if you were elected President what would be your first order of business? Obama: I was talking in Ohio with Jamie Sue McIntre, a young mother raising five children alone, and without health care for her sick mother. She told me of her struggle to get by. My first order of business would be to meet with Hugo Chavez, the President of Venezuela to have him outline a healthcare plan based on the socialist model he's installed so capably in his country. Moderator: Er...Ok. Mr. Lebowski, or should we just call you 'Dude'?...same question. Dude: Dude is fine or...his Dudeness...el Duderino... Moderator: Dude, the question please? Dude: Duderonomy....Can someone mix me a White Russian?...The Dudacious One...Dudester.. Moderator: President Reagan, same question please? Reagan's Ghost: I, I, uh...Nancy? Nancy (whispers): I would agressively put down the radical movement currently in command in Iran. Reagan's Ghost: I would agressively put down the radical movement currently in command in Iraq. Nancy (whispers): Iran! Reagan's Ghost: Iran? Moderator: Senator McCain, your answer. McCain: As long as the roots are not severed, there will be new flowers and new trees in the garden. Moderator: (after a long silence....) Mrs. Reagan, can you please help us? Nancy Reagan: Not on your life, you cow-faced bastard. I remember what you wrote about my dead husband's fiscal policy in the Times 20 years ago. You sonofabitch! Ronald's Ghost: Dead?

peteyw comments on Mc Cain in COL

"Doesn't McCain want to debate BOH one to one in townhall meetings once a week? How is that trying to dodge a match-up?" Its one thing to issue a public challenge for meetings and then set pre-conditions that you know no opponent would agree to. But he'll be forced to the debates on nuetral terms soon enough. You want to have some real fun? Wait until you get a real good, up close and personal look at McCain trying to field tough questions while trying to keep from blowing his lid all at the same time. Someone mentioned traveling to see McCain in Colombia. Its all good, but as far as McCain coming to Colombia, its not such a history making event just because he's a candidate running for president. Colombia has been visited by two U.S. presidents in just the last 12 years, both Bush and Clinton, that's more impactful historically.

peteyw comments on Lakers Vs. Celtics (Who's going to win?)

Not a whinner, but that last game was the worst officiated finals game I have ever seen in 30 years of watching NBA finals (and I've watched nearly every game of every finals). That was a disgrace. I'm not saying this because I predicted the Lakers to win; I'm a Bulls fan and Lakers or Celtics does nothing for me. I speak as a fan of basketball of the game of basketball, it was hard to watch.

peteyw comments on Mc Cain in COL

McCain goes to Isreal... McCain wants trip to Iraq with Obama....McCain plans meeting in Colombia with Uribe. He's like a scared boxer dodging a matchup with a younger, stronger more skilled boxer. He'll talk tough from outside the ring, will say he want to fight and wants a matchup "anytime, anyplace",;but will do anything to avoid an actual toe to toe matchup. But this isn't a Don King promoted fight, nor is McCain a political Rocky Balboa. This election will be won or lost in the good ole' USA, not on 'the road'. Problems in the economy, at the pump, at the supermarket, in the job market and the disaster of the housing market are what Americans want to hear solutions to from candidates. Not free trade agreements and regional conflicts that have been going on for decades. This guy knows he's most likely not going to win; he can't out fund-raise Obama, he can't out talk Obama, he' s not as appealing, he's not as smart, he's not as focused as Obama. So his strategy is to stay 'outside the ring' as long as possible. But his beatdown is coming. He can't avoid standing toe to toe with Obama forever. He's got to debate and not from Isreal, not from Colombia, but in town halls across the country. The Republicans have served this guy up as cannon-fodder as he knows it.

First of all, it will be generations before the Colombian economy transitions from an emerging economy to a mature economy. It will be generations before an average income gringo will not have dozens upon dozens of countries to choose from if they so prefer to reside outside the U.S.. What you need to do is understand that for the average American, a higher stratus area in Colombia is similar to a middle-class area in the U.S.. Its nothing super special. That why you don't see Americans with their noses up in the air bragging that they live in Poblado. Its o.k., but its no great shakes compared to wealthy residential areas in the U.S. There are many, many countries in the world an "lower economically positioned" gringo can go to and have a higher standard of living, nicer restaurants and just as many if not more pretty girls than Colombia. Most are in Colombia because they like Colombia and/or have family ties, not because its some unique Mecca or some Paradise. They can have their "moment in the sunshine" many places all over the world.

peteyw comments on Unfit to serve as Commander-In-Chief

At least Obama had the integrity to come right out and admit he smoked and snorted. And as a result of that honesty, its a non-issue. Now if he'll just say that he waxed the Obama Girl, I'l be totally satisfied.

peteyw comments on Boycott San Pedro !

You can ripped off in places in Cartagena using cash. A friend came to visit me on his vacation. First night I took him to Mr. Babilla's. My buddy doesn't drink alcohol and ordered a glass of juice. When the waiter came to collect, he told my friend the cost was 50,000 pesos!! It should have been 6,000. My friend had no idea what 50k was in U.S. dollars, he just paid the 50 and another 5K tip. He told me next day, we return to Babilla's and the waiter just shook his head and claimed he didn't remember, the management did nothing.

peteyw comments on Unfit to serve as Commander-In-Chief

I agree, none of it makes him unqualified; it makes him MORE qualified based on Presidential behavior going back to Kennedy all the way up to our current President George W. "I can't remember if I used coke" Bush.

peteyw comments on Lakers Vs. Celtics (Who's going to win?)

Did anyone else here notice something really weird in that game last night? Third period, the game had been close all night, Kobe's beginning to heat up, Gasol's getting it going thanks to Kobe's brilliant passing, the Lakers are playing good D and passing the ball while the Celts are hanging tough...then Pierce goes down and is carted off. From that moment forward, it was like a hat of doom fell on the Lakers. Instead of the Celtics losing focus because Pierce was down and possibly out, it was the Lakers who lost their focus instead. Kobe couldn't make a shot the rest of the night, even after Pierce returned; Gasol couldn't make a dunk or layup anymore; everyone made bad passes; the whole team was out of sync. It was like Pierce going down let the wind out of the Lakers' sails. It wasn't the Celtics that beat them it was like a bad karma beat em. Strangest thing I've seen in basketball in awhile.

peteyw comments on DOW PLUNGES 400

Yes, across the board. The funds have been making a fortune in the markets the last 5 years and you'll see profit taking now for awhile. Then it will rebound again.

peteyw comments on Unfit to serve as Commander-In-Chief

Wow. I just realized how qualified McCain is to be the President of the United States. He's not too bright, lucky as hell to escape death so many times, lucky as hell to be born in a family of privledge, adulterer, partyboy, playboy, heavy drinker, brown noser and just smart enough to marry well. Perfectly qualified. I'm going to switch my vote. Thanks for the article Morph

peteyw comments on DOW PLUNGES 400

He won the nomination days ago; the markets react to things immediately. If it were a negative reaction to Obama, the market would have tanked Wednesday. Today's actions were 'profit taking'; you'll see more in the days to come.

Mr. Brown, your post is so inaccurate you should delete it yourself. 1) A higher Peso is only a help to portions of the Colombian economy. It makes imported goods less expensive, but its killing Colombian exporters and costing thousands of Colombians their jobs every month. And its not the bankers or high paid corporate types, but the salaried workers who need the jobs and income the most. 2) The higher Peso is raising inflation in Colombia and that is hurting every Colombian consumer. 3) Poor Gringos on the way out makes you happy? Well I'm sorry to tell you that as the Colombian security situation gets safer MORE Gringos will come not fewer! You're gonna be an unhappy fellow soon. 4) Colombia becoming the expensive place to live doesn't help the overwhelming millions of Colombians strainging to make ends meet now. Why are you soo happy?

peteyw comments on Cartagena Backpackers Hostel

Its not me. I live across the street from that beach and I'll tell you that the Bocagrande beach is cleaned every single night by hand and by machine. I know as I run the beach for exercise at night and I see the crews and machine. You can't control people relieving their bodily functions in an ocean, that happens all over the world and even in your neighbor's backyard pool. But the sand on that beach is always cleaned. It would be easier to recognize if the sand were lighter, but there is no coral in area so you've got common looking brown sand.

peteyw comments on Best American Candy To Take....

First suggestion...Go Big. Number one on my list would be the really large Hershey's Bars with Almonds...they were about $3.50 each last time I bought one at Walgreens, also have them at Walmart. They have chocolate here, but the very size and scrumptiouness of that large chocolate bar will blow kids away here. They always see is the little stuff in small bags, so its no big deal and the flavors aren't as good as Hersheys. Second, I would agree with your choice of Turtles, expecially if you go to a specialty candy store and buy a variety of pecan, macadamia and peanut turtles. They'll fall in love with you. Third choice would be to agree with Mononoke28s suggestion of Jelly Beans. M&Ms, Snickers, 3 Muskateers, Chips Ahoy, Oreos are all sold here already.

peteyw comments on Colombian Couples giving birth in the USA

Sounds like a scam. You roll into the U.S. with no U.S. insurance and the 8K is supposed to include coverage of your hospital stay and delivery? Hmm. A one or two day stay in any U.S. hospital for a delivery can cost the whole thing or more. How come its always $8,000 for these get a 'citizenship in North America for a family member' deals? There is a scam going around Colombia where brokers guarantee that a Colombian citizen can emigrate to Canada as a displaced refugee. That displaced status gives you and your family a visa into Canada and the Canadian Govt. will pay for your housing, medical, education, etc.. until you get on your feet. The cost is $8,000 for the companies services to help arrange it. I found out about it when a Colombian friend of mine called me in December asking to borrow some money for it. He wanted to go with his wife and their two year old. He said after he paid the money, they were almost guaranteed cititzenship in Canada. Sounded too suspicious to me. I researched the thing on the web for 20 minutes and was able to show him recent Canadian Govt. denials of these things going back several years because many people had been ripped off. There were several companies offering this scam, specifically to Colombians. After my friend realized it was B.S. he said his entire family was pitching in to get the cash together so he could pay the folks operating the website and I saved them all a lot of money. Maybe this thing is legit and you can go to the U.S. after a few months pregnant and wait for the birth, and the $8,000 USD happens to be a coincidence.

peteyw comments on renewal of business visa

Went to Bogota to renew my business visa a few years ago. They hit me with a couple big surprises. First, they said that the purpose of the first visa is to set up the business and the assumption is that after its set up with a Colombian manager in place you need not be in Colombia to operate it. Therefore, the second visa requires that you leave Colombia every once every 30 days. My response was to laugh and ask them if that was a joke. They said no joke. Second, surprise, they said to apply for this renewed business visa you have to apply outside the country and once the visa is approved then you can return. The second was no big deal, leaving to apply; but the idea of flying in and out every 30 days was a big inconvenience and nonsensical in my opinion if you own a business there. I passed on the second business visa and just went for permanent residency instead. I hope the rules have changed since then.

Someone wrote: "I think it is true about gringas , they are not approchable at all no matter what you do unless you are a young tall slim fit lawyer or a senator or a famous actor ,your chances of getting dates with a gringa are very slim.it is sad but true" Bull....there are only about 150 famous actors, 100 senators and maybe 100,000 young tall slim fit lawyers in the U.S.. Meanwhile there are about 30 million young single women in America (roughly 10 percent of the population). If you can't get with a hot sexy gringa its because your game is weak. I have to explain something that is misunderstood about my sister the gringa; and its the gringo males who misunderstands this simple fact the most. The problem with the Gringa is the Gringo. The American woman is in general a loving, open-minded, educated woman with great insecurity who's dying for happiness. Its the American male who keeps confusing her and making her feel bad, so she puts an emotional wall around herself to protect her heart. She sees her man getting goofy over paper slim models with bodies most women will never have even if she starves herself. She hears her man asking her to have sex with him and another woman because that's HIS fantasy. That must really build the old self esteem to know the man you love needs you to become bi-sexual because you alone can not fulfill his fantasies and desires. She listens to her man complain that she is a cold bitch because deep down inside his weasily little butt is threatened because she makes more money than he does. I'll tell you this. I was dating women half my age in America and I did the same here in Colombia before getting married over a year ago. All of them fine, attractive ladies. All you have to do is realize that the pretty American woman wants to be approached, but not by a jackass. I am not a famous actor, not a young slim lawyer and not a senator. I"m an average middle aged guy and I can get with pretty women anywhere in the world because I take the time to be considerate, interesting, a good listener and show genuine interest in her. Works in Colombia, works in America. So back up off my American Women with your weak rappin, no game havin, flip flop wearin ass.

peteyw comments on Lakers Vs. Celtics (Who's going to win?)

The Knicks would be crazy not to go after James with both guns; I' d love to see him on my Bulls.

peteyw comments on Lakers Vs. Celtics (Who's going to win?)

Anyone want to talk about how the re-emergence of the Celtics creates yet another reason of many reasons why Lebron James will never win a ring if he stays in Cleveland?

peteyw comments on Lakers Vs. Celtics (Who's going to win?)

The Celtics would do better to hire a medium to reach out to Red Auerbach. To win this series they'll need some otherworldly intervention. Or call that cook in the Sacramento hotel and have him make Kobe another salmonella burger for his trip to Boston.

peteyw comments on What Celebrities Would Look Like If They Moved to Ohio

peteyw comments on Lakers Vs. Celtics (Who's going to win?)

I would also love to see Garnett with a ring, but NOT with a CELTICS jersey on! However, unless he has a career ending injury its almost certain he'll get a ring in Boston. Not this year; their bench is too weak and the Lakers are too talented and too deep and have a far, far superior coach. This is the Lakers year. And next year's Lakers will be even better with the healthy return of Bynum However, give the Celtics an effective off-season of deal making to get three things: 1) a veteran backup point guard with some legs (sorry, Cassel is about done, he has just one good playoff game left in him and that will probably be a game 4 or 5 effort ala Brent Barry), 2) a back up swing man who plays excellent D and can shoot the three 3) and finally, a stronger defensive presence in the middle to spell Perkins. Those three pickups and that team will be really dangerous. Garnett should get a ring or two before his time is done. He won't wind up like Karl Malone.

Esanch36, read Jimmy Carter's comments and perhaps you'll understand more about the motivation for nukes in the Middle East. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7420573.stm Also, read Vladimir Putin's comments about the Iranian nuclear program and you'll see my point about not believing what world leaders say in public....obviously the Iranian program is not soley for civilian use, but the point is made that they have the right to them if their neighbor's have that right. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=080531141912.qj84xpoo&show_article=1 both articles are from today's news. I want the proliferation of destructive weapons to cease globally.

peteyw comments on Uncontacted Indian tribe spotted in Brazil

Slguy, I'm trying to understand this guy's comments better. If indeed we are talking about tribes that are completely isolated from "civilization" so to speak and have had no contact whatsoever with outsiders or the outside world.....how in the hell are they sitting in their huts dreaming about a life with air conditioning, walking to the corner store for a meal...telephones? I'm not trying to be funny, but something strikes me as weird about this guy's comments. I can see them not wanting to be studied like fish in a tank, etc. I can certainly relate to that on many levels and the desire for a better life is universal in the human dna, part of what drives us. Or was his point simply that IF they knew all these things existed, they'd literally KILL for access to them?

peteyw comments on Another History Lesson for Obama

Again...don't believe everything you hear from world leaders in public...its posturing. Keep talking.

peteyw comments on Another History Lesson for Obama

Let me see esanch36... in your 'perfect world' governments that sponsor terrorism against other peoples should be invaded and attacked by other countries to make them stop? Correct? Now, which countries can you name, military and/or industrial powers, who do not use money to suppress people in other countries with ideolgies different from their own? Do you live in a plastic bubble? Wake up and smell the coffee. All the 'powers' big and small play the same game. The difference is 'definition'.... "We're right and they're wrong". Unfortunately, very rarely in the history of mankind has one country been always right and the others always wrong and vise versa. The dates and places change, the game remains the same. What should be done to stop Iran? Elect Obama and send 'W' and MiniMe (McCain) packing.

peteyw comments on Another History Lesson for Obama

esanch36 wrote: "Iranians havent done anything????? Well they have been funding the militias in Iraq and Palistine." And we didn't fund militias all over the world for causes that we deemed in our best interest? Please, that's the pot calling the kettle black. You actually want us to send American soldiers to bomb and die in Iran because Iran sends money to militias in Iraq, a country that invaded Iran in recent history; and to militias in Palistine where some of the poorest and most suppressed peoples on earth reside????? That's your justification. You want us to risk American lives for that?

peteyw comments on Another History Lesson for Obama

I agree with many of your points: the leadership in Iran is looney, the women are drop dead gorgeous some of them, we should keep a close eye on the elite in charge, remember what ignoring Hitler got us, etc. etc.. (By the way, anyone who knows their history knows that it wasn't the US who ignored the threat from Hitler, it was his fellow Euros, particularly the French, Brits and the Russians. The US failed to watch Japan closely enough.) Here is the problem. Many countries have similar stories, they just don't happen to be listed by our State Dept. as 'bad guys'. The Saudis are nothing to write home about, the Pakistanis either, I could go on with many examples from Africa to Latin America to Europe of lunatic leaders, who get a pass because they happen to tow our line so they are considered 'good guys'. If you really were to look at things with clear eyes, its easy to see which countries in the world are suppressors and which are not (Iran would be on that list along with almost every other Middle Eastern country). But combine the propaganda from the govt., their lapdog mainstream media and the fear of being politically incorrect (and I don't mean in the social sense, in the political sense) and you have the rose colored glasses that most of us are programmed to look thru. Open your eyes. Maybe the 'bad guys' dislike the 'good guys' for a good reason. Maybe the 'bad guys' were able to seize power as a response to our good guys. Slguy you were in Iran in 78; in 77 & 78 I was buried in Iranian poontang myself. Can you tell me in all honesty that the Shah was a 'good guy' just because our govt. said so? Sometimes it takes evil to defeat evil. This happens so often. The cure becomes worse than the sickness. Let's take an example from this hemisphere. What transformed Manuel Noriega from a 'good guy', a friend of America to such a 'bad guy' that we had to invade another sovereign country to arrest him? And don't tell me its because he ran drugs; lots of our 'good guys' sell drugs, guns, you name it. He was doing his thing for years and woke up one day and decided to bite the hand; now Charles Manson stands a better chance of getting out of prison. Sure the Iranians are afraid of our military. So is every country on earth. The smart leaders know that nukes are the only deterent. That's why even our 'friends' as well as our 'enemies' spied on us to steal nuclear weapon technology from the 40s to the present day. The smart leaders also know that our current weaponry is only 20 years away from rendering nukes obsolete. But they also know that the development of nukes is a powerful negotiating tool. The Iranians will negotiate for the very reason you think they won't. You call people fanatics, because they have a different view of the world and history than you do. I could give you a long, long, long list of fanatical, stupid, unkind, cruel, untrustworthy, unethical, lying and just downright mean things that we've done. We have zero accountability in some quarters too. Does that mean we shouldn't talk to ourselves???

peteyw comments on Another History Lesson for Obama

That's the same talk I was hearing in 2002 about Iraq. "Saddam doesn't repect talk, he respects action".. "The Iraqi's are too ignorant to do the right thing" ..."We have to take action if they don't do what WE want." Here we go again with the same old gunship diplomacy foolishness that led to the embarrassment in Vietnam, the debacle in Beriut and the humanitarian and PR disaster of Iraq. Iran hasn't attacked anybody! They have not invaded a neighbor. They have not gassed their own citizens. So why so quick to want to use some F-16s on them? We all know the answer to that and it has nothing to do with Islamic ideology. We talked to North Korea for years and the regional diplomacy finally worked, but not for many years. Why didn't we attack North Korea to get them to bow down (ie drop nuclear weapon development)? They had too many missles trained on Soeul and Tokyo to risk it. Why haven't we put the Chinese or the Russians in their place lately? Because they can't be intimidated. That is the problem with 'gunship diplomacy'... it only works when the other side is intimidated and every world leader knows it. They are not stupid. They may not be geniuses, but these people didn't become presidents, dictators and emperors by being weak minded. Talk to Iran. I know many Iranians and we have more in common with the average Iranian than you think. Like us, the majority of them are subject to the whims of a government that they cannot control. Keep you gun in your holster. If you must pull your gun out, use the one in your pants and have some fun. Keep the faith in America. The U.S. will always win in the end if we keep true to the principals of our founding fathers...life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Whenever our leaders stray from those principals we, the people, usually get screwed.

peteyw comments on Another History Lesson for Obama

Doesn't hurt to talk. Dialogue for 30 years without the results that YOU want is the problem. One side thinks that talking to another side without the other side accepting their point of view is suddenly a failure. We agreed to disagree. Talking with other nations is good. You don't agree with their politics, they don't agree with yours...so what? That means you're not capable of a conversation? Don't pay too much attention to statements world leaders make to the public, its 'posturing'. Behind closed doors is where the real talking takes place.

peteyw comments on The cause of high oil prices is not OPEC. It's NOPEC

Oil Oil Oil. The fact is there are plenty of oil resources in the U.S. and that protecting the environment is the cover story. The true reason for not drilling has nothing to do with protecting a specie of fish, bird habitat or a prarie dog. The truth is we're keeping our oil in the ground until the oil runs dry in producing countries not allied with us; then the U.S. becomes the world's new leading producer and controls the market. You'll see in another 10 years how the tables will have turned. Its a power play, pure and simple. Nice to read the comments and know that the 'cover story' is still blinding people after all these years.

peteyw comments on pot sniffing dog has nasal breakdown............

Dwmte7. Your story reminds me of an experience former football player Thomas 'Hollywood' Henderson had years ago traveling into The Bahamas with two ounces of blow. He was so high that he put the blow on the top of his clothes in his luggage so the customs agent just opened up one bag and there it was. The customs guy looked at 'Hollywood' and said "most people come to the Bahamas to party, but I see you brought you party with you....have a nice stay." Then closed up the bag and waived Hollywood through.

What's really scary is if the innocent passenger who owned the bag got on another plane going to say...China and the customs there discover the weed. Now this innocent passenger is in a Chinese prison trying to explain that he/she doesn't know how the pot got in his luggage and nobody will listen and is now just plain screwed (err... no pun intended).
