peterNC comments on Some Random comments on Colombia and South America Very nice post static... It's obvious that you have a healthy and refreshingly positive attitude. I hope that you and your family continue to have good experiences and manage to avoid the others that we hear about from time to time. It sounds like you are in El Poblado or there about... very nice area. I've only been there once but also felt safe. I do agree that you could have paid much less for your apartment... I don't know what you do for a living but if you look around, I'm sure the savings could help you financially. As to the social levels and racial interactions, I find your experiences very similar to my experiences with the coastal Colombians with some small differences...but you are speaking in generalities and in doing so I'm sure you're "spot on"...Thanks again, I think I look forward to my next visit to Medellin even more so than before.

peterNC comments on Colombian term for light skin? My young wife refers to her best friend as... la flaca... her nickname for me is/was Gordo back before I even had any gut... I've heard negra used by the men quite often as another term of endearment...

peterNC comments on Is the juice worth the squeeze? jajaja.... pretty good one Tinto... Oh well... I guess we've run this thread into the ground.. let's just say that hairs can be split but it's only one hair and it just doesn't matter... I'm done on this one... :-) .. but it appears that there's some good juice to be had in that Colombian squeeze...

peterNC comments on hahahaha....yup! I'm only 43... I work out.. don't smoke, drink lightly and have good skin so I look much younger but evidently not young enough.... I brought my Colombianita(25) here to the Miami area and have had a few of those moments... But, the bottom line is that you can only control what YOU can control... the rest it... is what it is... and the sooner we are ok with that the better off we'll be... Good luck.. it only gets more frequent...

peterNC comments on Is the juice worth the squeeze? christobeldawg.... no they are not.... gheese! I've been to Medellin, Boston, Mississippi and Chicago... and "one of these 4 isn't like the others...one of these 4 is different from the others... one of these 4 sticks out from the others"....the song goes something like that.... I think that the trained chimp, a new friend of mine... and his boss have more more in common than medellin and any of the other two cities mentioned here...

peterNC comments on Colombia gaining popularity... good or bad? Interesting... I guess with the popularity of cities such as Cartagena and Medellin on the rise with single men, it appears to be a bigger growth than it is... I know more about Cartagena than any other city and between the Italians, the Spaniards and the North Americans... they have seen alot more extranjeros throughout the city... But like you say... that doesn't mean that the rest of the country are seeing growth... Good point Hollywood, I appreciate the stats....

peterNC comments on Colombia gaining popularity... good or bad? great info Mike... that's definitely something to think about... there's always the unknown... but living abroad has huge benefits... and usually the better the benefits... the higher the risks... one of the biggest risk as I see it is being in another country if it ever becomes "anti-American"....any input on this possiblilty?

peterNC comments on Is the juice worth the squeeze? pretty funny: "life in the states is SIMILAR thoughout..." "You've got to be kidding me. You need to get out more. You're telling me that Maine is the SAME as Mississippi..." John Stark...SAME is not the Same as SIMILAR...though it is similar...hahaha chewy, dwmte7, la campina, slguy & Bill Turley...thanks for the response... it's nice to hear some positive posts.. ;-)

I'm fluent in Spanish and although I've traveled a good deal, I've not lived outside of the US unless you count the military years alooooooong time ago... But I don't know how much diference that makes... life in the states is similar thoughout...

peterNC comments on Colombia gaining popularity... good or bad? Danger is another consideration...without question.... and although it could exist anywhere in Colombia at any time, there are certain areas that have to be "safer" than others... generally speaking. That input would be awesome and is both welcome and wanted... I do have about a dozen visits to Colombia over the last year and a half... but to limited areas...so I'm still curious to hear other's input about not nesessarily how to avoid "gringo areas"... but to find areas where our reputation is at least nuetral... Does that make sense? In Cartagena for example, many consider any woman who is with an extranjero must be a working girl or a gold digger... I know I'd like my Colombiana wife to be free of such ignorant prejudice criticism... not just now but years down the road too...

peterNC comments on Gee, ANY positive stories about Colombians staying home There's plenty of truth to the stories that you hear because "the word is out" to these men as well as others.... Older men hunting hot younger women...Younger attractive women looking for a way out of their present situations and a ticket to the states appears to be the "way out" for many... Thus many of both groups appear to flock to the same locations(both real and cyber) in order to meet each other. I brought my wife here this year and have 3 American friends that I know who recently did the same. We range in ages from 30 to 43. We have attractive, intelligent wives who enjoy living here but would LOVE to be back in Colombia with their husbands at their sides...The truth is, here in the US we have advantages but in Colombia, there are distinct advantages as this group well knows.... but the bottom line is that their are beautiful, decent women in Colombia who just want to be with the man they love...
