Papi de Alejo comments on island girl Island Girl, one of these days I have to get back to SKB. And while I'm in the area I should head south a little and see your neck of the woods. My plans for the new year are in flux at the moment. After this trip, I might not be back in Colombia for six months. But who knows one of these days, when I go there, I won't come back.

Papi de Alejo comments on How is property outside of Rodadero, SM valued? The railroad tracks are on the right as you described above between the coastal highweay and the hotels.

Papi de Alejo comments on Look out chubby OK! I guess that I have to cross Peru off of my places to visit list.
Papi de Alejo comments on Basilea Restaurant - Santa Marta Larry, I have less than three weeks before I get there. I see that I will not be able to complain about not having any good restaurants to go to when I get there. And as my friend Island Girl says, you will be partly responsible for my waistline. I usually lose a good bit of it when I get there. I don't see that happening this time. Island Girl, where have you been? Haven't seen much of you lately.

Papi de Alejo comments on HAS ANYONE EVER BEEN ABLE TO USE SPRINT IN COLOMBIA? Ha ha Brian, it's the same thing that I do with my Sprint phone. I can't afford the roaming charges.

Papi de Alejo comments on Flights from Medellin to San Juan, PR You are not going to have too much luck. San Juan is the Caribbean hub for most US Airlines and there's always lots of Caribbean people heading to their homelands for Christmas; who have for the most part booked their flights since January of this year and are unlikely to cancel at the last moment. If you are lucky, you can find fares in First Class or use other routes than Florida. You could try COPA and see what you could get from them. Their routing would be AeroRepublica/COPA to Bogota to Panama City to San Juan or they might skip the Bogota leg. Good luck.

Papi de Alejo comments on Can U.S. anchor childs be created in Colombia? Without considering the pitfalls that you refer to in your post, they can register the child as a US citizen born abroad. When the child reaches 18, s/he can sponsor the mother and her spouse if the child has the resources to do so. As far as I know, the mother can not apply for immigration status based on her child being a US citizen. Only the child can do that for her, when s/he is of legal age and if s/he has the resources to support the mother and spouse.

Papi de Alejo comments on Vonage offers FREE calls to ALL landlines in Colombia If you live near the border, you can cross over into the US and buy the device at a store such as Best Buy and activate it over the phone or internet using a US address. I have never received any mail from them at my home; so I presume that they do not verify the addresses. They definitely do not verify where the phones are being used. In addition to my home in New York, I have one in use in Colombia and several family members have units in use in various parts of the Caribbean.

Papi de Alejo comments on Vonage offers FREE calls to ALL landlines in Colombia I did originally say "Fijo" but for the life of me, at the time I could not think of "telefono" as the noun. All I could think of was "linea" which would make the adjective "fija". But I do say fijo. It's funny how sometimes the adjective by itself comes to represent the noun.
Papi de Alejo comments on Vonage offers FREE calls to ALL landlines in Colombia OK but the grammar police will get on your butt.
Papi de Alejo comments on Juepaje Trust me, he still won't see it. Your comment is posted is on his thread;.it's just that neither of you can't see it there.

Papi de Alejo comments on Vonage offers FREE calls to ALL landlines in Colombia Si, teléfono fijo pero linea fija. Son iguales, su significado.
Papi de Alejo comments on See you all in Medellin.... Sounds like he made THE move. Good luck to him.
Papi de Alejo comments on Near Death Experience with Brasilia Maybe, just maybe, you did something to prevent something bad from happening down the road. Good for you!
Papi de Alejo comments on Vonage offers FREE calls to ALL landlines in Colombia Larry it probably should be "fija" as in "linea fija" or "fixed line"... land line in English.
Papi de Alejo comments on Vonage offers FREE calls to ALL landlines in Colombia It says unlimited. I have never used 2000 minutes, so I can't tell you if there is a cap that I have never broached. Give them a call at 866 243-4357 and ask them; or visit the page posted above and browse through the FAQ's.

Papi de Alejo comments on Vonage offers FREE calls to ALL landlines in Colombia How long ago was that? I knew that they had a "World Plan" and a "Latin America Plan" back in the days but it never worked for me because only the 3 or 4 largest cities in Colombia were included in either plan; and it didn't cover where I wanted to call most. This summer, someone posted on here about the new "World Plan". I looked into it and immediately signed up. My cost remained the same; but I can call any landline in Colombia now. I just checkeed their website and this is what it says: "FREE unlimited landline calls to all cities and locations in more than 60 other countries**, including India, Mexico and Canada NEW" Check out the link below: http://www.vonage.com/residential_calling_plans/vonage_world/?refer_id=WEBHB090201002W1

Papi de Alejo comments on See you all in Medellin.... Good luck to you. Lots of fine PBHers and ex-PBHers in Medallo. Reach out if you run into difficulties. For the most part they have all been quite cordial and helpful.

Papi de Alejo comments on Continental fares sharply higher for 2010. I don't know what's up with Continental. This past July, I got a fare of $692 ALB>EWR>BOG>SMR rt and now even on dates that are well into the future, non holiday; I can't find anything for less than $1,100. So I just drive down to New York City and take advantage of the many cheap options there. Saves me more than $400 off of the fare offered by Continental.

Papi de Alejo comments on Vonage offers FREE calls to ALL landlines in Colombia PCL, when I get a chance, I'll share my statements by PM. I'm doing it now; my costs have gone way down. Now when I need to talk to someone; I ask them for the number for their fijo when they give me their cell. I'll use Orbitel for calls to cellphones for a limited duration but use the Vonage for unlimited calling to fijo's.
Papi de Alejo comments on Vonage offers FREE calls to ALL landlines in Colombia That would make sense, Larry; as all of the cell phone numbers are like us numbers with an "area code" of 300, 301, 314, 318, etc. So if I call to my cell in Colombia 011 57 300 477 9X XX it would cost me money to call it; but if I called my landline 011 57 5 433 9X XX it would not incur any additional charges.
Papi de Alejo comments on Vonage offers FREE calls to ALL landlines in Colombia PCL, I think that the change occurred around July or August of this year. Prior to that I paid up the wazzoo just like everyone else.
Papi de Alejo comments on Vonage offers FREE calls to ALL landlines in Colombia Thanks for the reminder Larry; you have to ask for the "World Plan". For me the price was exactly the same after I selected the World Plan; yet without the World Plan, I had to pay for all calls to Colombia except to the largest cities.
Papi de Alejo comments on Vonage offers FREE calls to ALL landlines in Colombia I have had Vonage for several years now. I agree with PCL that this was the situation up until about 4 months ago. I can now call any landline in Colombia without incurring additional long distance charges. I have called Medelin, Tuluá, Bogotá and Bonda. I don't believe that calls to Tuluá and to Bonda were eligible under the old plan. It's good that you can readily tell whether a phone unmber is that of a cell or landline. I liked their service so much that I activated another line that I use in Colombia. So in Colombia, I can call nationally without incurring the regional long distance calls as well as the long distance charges to US, Canada and about 30 or more countries.

Papi de Alejo comments on Private Message Tati, try contacting one of the mods. The PM's are recorded. They might be able to retrieve it for you.

Papi de Alejo comments on Taking the time to write a thread or post a comment on PBH.......... WHY BOTHER ??? Hey! Caferful how you use that "Papi". I don't want any confusion here.

Papi de Alejo comments on Finding Peace in Colombia Cute article. May all trips to Colombia be as uneventful as the writer's trip was.

Papi de Alejo comments on Had this conversation with the misses once. She said that they are called "tinas" and that they are for use by sick people. So much for that!

Papi de Alejo comments on furnished apartment wanted in Santa Marta for 2-3 months During the run-up to the high season, not many landlords will consider renting monthly rather than nightly when they can make a major killing. Most of these nightly ads will change early to mid-january. Try the link below and go to the website of any of the inmobilirias that are listed. They should have a better grasp on monthly rentals that are actually available. http://colombia.inmobiliaria.com/listado_apartamentos-santa-marta-magdalena-Z18640T8.htm

Papi de Alejo comments on Low, Medium, High Seasons in Colombia? You can find the dates for the temporadas for Cartagena in this link. http://www.cartagenainfo.com/calendarioturistico/

Papi de Alejo comments on Bar Lilias - Rodadero Nice fotos Bickerss. Brings back many fond memories. I used to stay in Santa Maria del Mar but the misses loves the mountains. We compromised on Bonda. We celebrated her birthday at San Alejo in May. That was a wild night.

Papi de Alejo comments on Setup a live camera in Barranquilla. Thank goodness, you're back down to 92F.

Papi de Alejo comments on When is the next Santa Marta Meetup? I'm available Dec 13 - 27. I know that it's the holidays but the Friday 18 or Saturday 19 are a full week before Christmas; one of these should be good.

Papi de Alejo comments on 2-way ignore Nah! You got me wrong PCL. This is what I saw: Paisa/Calena/Luver says on Nov 13, 2009, 11:24 (today): flag Darloup. Dont even start! Nobody has even mentioned you! Leave them alone! I didn't see what he said; and because it wasn't right there in my face, I couldn't and had no desire to read the comment.

Papi de Alejo comments on 2-way ignore PCL, unless you're trying to fake me out, I know that I am going to love this new feature.

Papi de Alejo comments on 2-way ignore Bravo Peter. I truly hope that this will now bring some semblance of order to the forum. I joined the forum a few years ago and have found it to be of immense use to me and can see from others responses that they also find it useful. I am never sure of all of the different agendas around here; but now I can identify those who I perceive to be troublemakers and not only ignore them but deny them the opportunity to pick at my contributions. Thank you.

Papi de Alejo comments on Juepaje Belated welcome to PBH. Hope that you will continue to have time to pop in now and again.

Papi de Alejo comments on Mail Forwarding If the cost is too much for you, I would give a try to one of the shipping companies. As Bill Turley pointed out above, the cost would be $17 for less than 5 lbs. From his post it sounds as if it would be delivered within a week.

Papi de Alejo comments on Any Personal Recommendations for Salsa Clubs in Cali? Hey Lefty, I went looking for that address for you and ran across this link. I didn't have time to find it but there's a lot here that you can pick and choose from. http://www.cabinas.net/utiles/discotecas_cali.asp

Papi de Alejo comments on Any Personal Recommendations for Salsa Clubs in Cali? Only club that I've been to in Cali is Siboney. We were going to the club next door (don't even remember it's name) but they had some kind of concert that night and we decided to skip the crown and go to Siboney. It was a Thursday night and with the concert next door it was pretty dead. But we enjoyed ourselves. The music is mostly cubana. (Siboney is the indigenous name for the island of Cuba).

Papi de Alejo comments on Iberia Strikes Good idea Kat. Start working on contingency plans. If she can travel earlier, ask them if they can change the ticket. They just might waive any change fees.
