Papi de Alejo comments on Feds Bust 83 in Florida Marriage Fraud Scam Congrats to your niece. I hope she got a scholarship. My daughter graduated from Cornell last year and I still get a twitch every time a letter comes from them. It was worth every penny. I'm broke now, but glad I did it. PdA

Papi de Alejo comments on Buying a Colombian SIM card etc. Not sure what the coverage is in San Andres, but I bought a SIM chip last year and use it every time I go back. As you said, it is very convenient. I do the sasme thing in St. Kitts and in the Dominican Republic.I bought mine at a cellphone repair tienda but I have heard many persons say that they needed to apply for a chip and needed to provide paperwork i.e. passport etc. Hope that you like Cartagena, I'm going to be there 5/19-22. This will be my first time there. PdA

Papi de Alejo comments on Spirit Airlines -- My First (and maybe last) Experience I don't own any part of COPA, but I have been pleased with the service that I have gotten from them. Next week, I will be flying Avianca for the first time (outside of Colombia) and I hope that I will be as pleased with them as I have been with COPA. I'm taking the new "red-eye" from JFK. They offer great connections out of Bogota. PdA

Papi de Alejo comments on Chavez calls ethanol production 'crime' In January, I also took a taxi from Barranquilla to Santa Marta and had to stop on the way for fuel. I was not alone, so it didn't seem extremely dangerous to exit the car to have the fuel injected. I guess it's better to be outside of the car if something untowards happened that to be inside trying to flee. PdA

Papi de Alejo comments on How long to spend at Parque Tayrona? and other questions. I can't help much with the questions that you have posed, but I'm headed to Santa Marta at the end of May. Papi de Alejo comments on Colombia To Seek Oil Off San Andres Island With Jamaican Company Jamaica has a new government led by the Jamaica Labour Party. They are more inclined to the US and towards Britain than the former government of the Peoples National Party. Papi de Alejo comments on For gringos is easy to say "I love you" as it is to go to the toilet You guys are too much. Kat I don't understand how you used the verb gustar. It seems as if I'm asking her if I am pleasing to her. Elmo & Robi you're going to get someone into big trouble. At any rate, I'm past this stage. Just remembering the awkward silences when I was thinking that I should tell her that I like her but trying to be careful not to tell her that I love her. After we got past this, It did take me a long time to figure out that when she called me "Cielo" it was a spanish word and not having anything to do with mariners.

Papi de Alejo comments on For gringos is easy to say "I love you" as it is to go to the toilet Pero que dices en espanol?
Papi de Alejo comments on For gringos is easy to say "I love you" as it is to go to the toilet Y como se dice algo menos fuerte que "I love you"? Posibilidades son "Te gusto" o "Tengo carino para ti" Se solamente como decir "Te quiero" y mas tarde "Te amo" pero que puede decir antes que dice "Te quiero"?
Papi de Alejo comments on For gringos is easy to say "I love you" as it is to go to the toilet Maybe it's just the language. In Spanish, I can't find too much room to say "I like you" or "I care about you". Granted, I'm new to this language but if I say "I like you" it comes out sounding as if there was a choice between the meal we just shared and you and you won. When I try to say "I care about you" it comes out sounding as if I am applying for a job as your ninera. I have spent a lot of time describing the weather instead of saying something that will get me in trouble if I'm not yet at that place. i.e. telling the woman "I love you" when I really only want to say that we had a great time and hope that we can do it again. Papi de Alejo comments on Don't know about Venezuela but many countries "peg" their currency to a hard currency. Their value in relation to the hard currency stays basically the same but their value versus other currencies fluctuates in the same fashion as the currency to which they are pegged.

Papi de Alejo comments on No Free trade with Colombia I sure hope that Deathnova can tell me how as a black man I am going avoid hard times if Sen. Obama is elected. Maybe if I can be convinced, I'd be willing to switch my support to him. I agree with Miamimike, the problems with free trade agreements tend to resolve around US companies doing business in countries where they can avoid regulatory controls that exist in the US. We have to remember that these regulations have transformed business and their effect on their workers and society for the positive. Most of us have no memory of a time when there was no guarantee that you would return from your workplace with all of the body parts that you went to work with or how much big business greatly polluted the environment. Is this what we want to unleash on countries trying to come into their own? I for one hope not. PdA

Papi de Alejo comments on Drinks The train from Penn Station to Brentwood costs between $6.75 - $13.50 depending on senior citizen status and peak or off peak hours. It takes about 1hr 10mins. If I remember correctly, it's walking distance to Mi Tierrita. If not, we can arrange pick ups.

Papi de Alejo comments on MIA to CTG I'm headed there for a couple nights in May. Not what I would really want, but the reality is that I don't plan to see too much of Cartagena during my stay. I only plan to come up for air two or three times per day. PdA

Papi de Alejo comments on "I implore you to pray for me and my team as we head down there." I cannot explain the unexplainable. I cannot clarify the unclarifiable. I notice that one poster edited his post and completely changed the essence of what he said originally. I'm done with this thread. PdA

Papi de Alejo comments on "I implore you to pray for me and my team as we head down there." Aaron & Robi, I agree. As to Jmb, I don't think that he hates Colombia. This one thread does not a pattern make. In fact in this thread, I think that he is trying to tell all of us who have affection for Colombia that our work may be harder than we think. I appreciate knowing that there are misinformed people out there who think that they have to dodge bullets as soon as they leave the airport a la Bosnia jejeje. When my friends and associates talk like that I set them straight. In fact, I probably have about 10 people interested in seeing what Colombia is like for themselves. When strangers talk like that I walk right past them. To the credit of the original author of the blog, s/he came back and talked about how much they enjoyed their visit. It would have been nice if they directly denoiunced their previous position but whatever. PdA

Papi de Alejo comments on "I implore you to pray for me and my team as we head down there." I sure hope that this isn't how things work around here. Jmb161 says at the get go that it's not his post and immediately somene responds to him as if he were the author of the blog. Jmb again says these are not his thoughts and almost everyone ignores him. Is this how all the other threads go? PdA

Papi de Alejo comments on Drinks I was reading over the posts and discovered that only a few of us might know what Swinn and I are talking about. We would like to arrange a get together on Saturday April 19 at Mi Tierrita Restaurant in Brentwood, NY. Mi Tierrita is a Colombian restaurant and is popular among the latino population of Suffolk County, NY. Brentwood is on the Ronkonkoma line of the Long Island Railroad and is easily reachable from Penn Station in New York City. You can also get there on the Long Island Expressway or the Southern State Parkway. If it's just going to be me and Swinn and his family, that's cool. I would like to extend the invitation to anyone who might be interested. I have been to this restaurant on several occaisions and try to get there everytime I get out to Brentwood. The sangria here is particularly potent and must be sampled. Swinn is checking out the availability and will let us know more as soon as he has additional information. PdA
Papi de Alejo comments on Drinks How is either Saturday April 19th? Would afternoon or evening be preferred? Anyone in NYC Metro feel free to indicate an interest. Swinn if this date doesn't work for you, propose an alternative. Do you know if Mi Tierrita can accomodate large groups?
Papi de Alejo comments on Drinks Hey Swinn, I often head out to CI to see some friends out there. Looking for any excuse to visit Mi Territa again. I'll get in touch when I'm headed that way unless you plan something before I get there. PdA

Papi de Alejo comments on Another important feature to use is the "BACK" button. I'm so used to going back to a former reality that I never tried it. Peter suggested that I use it and found that when you use the back button, you don't get the page that you were last on but an up-to-date version of that page. PdA

Papi de Alejo comments on Colombians abroad, a loss to Colombia, in most cases a gain to the host country MM - I bet you if she is a good lawyer and willing, she could make a killing working with Americans who want to do things in Colombia. If she understands both the American and Colombian legal systems, has both languages down pat, she could put into place all of those American type contracts in a way where they will be accepted in Colombia. Papi de Alejo comments on ADVICE.... ON SURGERY IN MEDELLIN.. AM I SCAMMED O IS THIS REAL Hey Kid, without trying to beat a dead horse, let me convey something to you that a Salvadorean girlfriend once told me. She said that it is not the latina way to ask a man for anything. She said that if they just expressed a need, if the man was truly interested in them, he would do what was necessary to fulfil this need. All that to say that if she was only asking you for your prayers, you can bet that there was (is) an expectation that if you are looking for some of the dulces you should be prepared to do something for her. If you take her at her word when she says all that she wants is your prayers, I'll even help you with that one. I hope that I still have it good with the Big Guy PdA
