We are Colombo-Americanos I was raised in Phoenix and although there are tons of Chicanos and they considered any latino raised there a Chicano, I never let them call me a Chicano. Chicanos typically do not speak Spanish and are very out of touch with their mother land unlike the US born Colombians.

PaisaAmericano comments on Tell Me The Difference Between Estratos

I agree with Azul I currently live in Estrato 6 in Laureles Medellin and although it very very nice and secure, the neighborly love is not there. I remember as a kid going to my grandmas house in Estrato 2 and everybody knew eachother, neighbors helped each other, soccer games in the streets, empanadas all over, asados, music, energy, life. The true Colombia

PaisaAmericano comments on US Biker is Colombia "Black Leather jacket and do-rag?

Why is everybody being so hard on Stateside? I used to ride a fatboy and dressed the part, after my best friend passed away on his I stopped riding and I stopped wearing the duds cuz I look stupid driving a car in leather! hahahaha! I still sport my tattoos and wear the du rag once in a long while. This guy is being himself and no one should judge this cat!!! should we disrespect alot of you gringos who come here and where the sandals with shorts to a club and look even more stupid??? this guy is alright, its part of our so called culture in the states! let be and let live. How you gonna tell somebody to dress different when they fell comfortable in leather, jeans, boots and a du rag? You guys are being the shallow ones, which Colombia does not pride itself in that. Stop being assholes.

PaisaAmericano comments on Insane Idea but would love your input!

Dangerous Hey Brad, not only will you be in bad situations driving through Mexico in the H2 but if you do find a way to Colombia the FARC or any other Guerilla group will have a field day with you man. I would not do it. May get kidnapped, robbed or killed.

PaisaAmericano comments on Una palabra que yo he visto únicamente en Colombia...

It means Understandable, very clear. For example. "Ese discurso estuvo muy diciente." in English: "That speech was very clear or understandable."

PaisaAmericano comments on Applying for Colombian Citizenship

Colombian Passport very important "You may also apply for a Colombian passport. This is not really necessary as the cedula will suffice for most things. I can't imagine any benefit to travelling with a Colombian passport"

Actually I am also a dual national and have a contraseña waiting for my pemanent cedula. I am trying to stay in Colombia for an extended period of time and you need a Colombian passport to do this. If not then the DAS keeps treating me like a tourist and demands extensions that you have to pay. Also they only let you stay in the country for 6 months at a time. Since I applied for my cedula after the age of 25 this is a problem. I am now going through hoops and loops to get this passport thing all straightened out.

Why in San Andres?? Chester can you tell us why in San Andres???

PaisaAmericano comments on Learning Spanish in Colombia

Relax Ekdog The Spanish in Mexico is very nice. However, in many parts of Mexico the proper spanish is not spoken, and you know that. I was raised in Arizona and I could hardly understand what the hell the Sureños and Norteños were talking about half the time!!!!! Their accent, dialect and slang were just rediculous. I worked for the major Airline in Arizona, America West Airlines (now US Airways) and flew to many parts of Mexico. The DF, Ill give to you about proper language, also Monterey, Cancun and Mazatlan. There are many educated people but at the same time....many Indians with their foot in their mouths. Sorry but Colombian Spanish is Superior!

PaisaAmericano comments on Received CR1 packet for interview...

Tough to be in your shoes Man, I hate to even get into this. Either she is gonna bolt! like its happened to some cats from the states I know or she is legit and has legitamate reasons to just wrap things up in her country. Listen, many people before they realize that "this is it" and are changing their lives and lifestyle....have second thoughts and are scared or anxious. Give her the time to tie up those loose ends my friend. You both had the interview, it went well and she got it!!! awesome! but her life has always been in Colombia thats all she knows. Give her a break, let her say goodbye to all her family and friends, her food, her music, her culture. Its scary man for anyone moving to a different country, be a little sensitive about that aspect.

Now if she has given you some signs of infidelity and in your heart feel that she is gonna bolt, then you need to tighten the reigns. Why dont you stay with her in Colombia? And go through the "Good-Bye process" with her? You´re married now and you should not give her that altimatum of staying alone and you leaving. Hold her hand through this tough and emotional time. If you decide to be by her side....and she is shady about it, then you now know what you are dealing with brother. Good luck to you and I hope you keep us posted on what happens.

PaisaAmericano comments on * Americans Vs. Gringos in Poorbuthappy

What the F*****!!! This thread is the lamest Ive read. Listen, MON I live here in Colombia and come from both cultures. I am from Jackson Heights, pretty much little Colombia in Queens. I was raised in Phoenix and although there were not many Colombians....the Colombians that were there, organized a group called "La Casa De La Cultura Colombiana" in order to contain the Colombian culture in their families, and bring it to the communities. L.A has the same thing as well as with the Portugues community. I have met Southern151 and he came to Medellin with some knowledge and with a thirst to learn more and experience this culture. He did not speak any Spanish and everyone called him "The Gringo", he tried all the foods and heard the music and enjoyed it all. He will be back. Now, so what if Gringos learn about Colombia in a WWW...? I have met many here who have learned through the www´s and met women and come here and if it doesnt work out???? they still learn the culture and love it because this place has alot more to offer, and they quickly learn that when they get here.

PaisaAmericano comments on bankproblems

Stupid!!!! Sorry bro. but you need to do a little bit more research on our country. Man, Colombia is safer but not the safest. You need to be careful bout what you say and who you say it to. If your streets smarts are like your business tactics then you are screwed here my friend! Leave it in Switzerland, do the right thing.

PaisaAmericano comments on Loving Medellin? Why?

Hey Cindster I dont know what career plans you have, but positions as an English Instructor are endless here and pays very well. You can private tutor, work at a University, The Columbus School, Colombo-Americano etc. I am currently in Real Estate and cater to the American or English Community or those who are planning on investing here. My background is in Travel, Hospitality and Tourism and that is huge here as well, especially now that Colombia is safer and all these gringos have found out what a great place this is and how beautiful it is. There are American Companies here that also hire Americans for their International divisions. So Cindster, if you do a little research youll find many opportunities.

PaisaAmericano comments on Loving Medellin? Why?

You go Mami! I am also from Antioqueño parents and all my life have traveled here for the summer vacations. I was lucky to go to school here as a 10 year old and learn all the manerisms, dialect, culture, soccer well everything. I am now 30 and have moved to this beautiful paradise, I have found that the opportunities for a ColomboAmericano are endless! If you know perfect Colombian Spanish and perfect English you are set here and will live a very prosperous life.

PaisaAmericano comments on Shared Office Space - Consultants, Students, Teachers.

Superb Idea I think its a great Idea and I would totally be willing to invest in that venture. However I live in Medellin, I was talking to a friend yesterday (Southern 151) at a bar in Parque LLeras and we were brainstorming various ideas and that was one of them. Our Idea was not much of an office but more like a comfortable lounge type of cafe where Americans can go and network, have meetings, play pool, shoot darts, have some American Cocktails etc. Not too much of a bar but a meeting place where we could serve as happy consultants, maybe have a travel agency in the place. Laid back, Tell me what you think?

PaisaAmericano comments on Marriage. I have been in contact w/ a woman from B/Q for @2 years. I am going to spend the summer.

Why in San Andres?? Why is it easier to get married in San Andres? I know it used to be own by the states but now pertains to Colombia. Very interesting

PaisaAmericano comments on The Gateway to Colombia

Casa Bacardi in MIA Casa Bacardi is my favorite place for my Mojitos or Rum and Cokes. Also La Carreta is very good for Cuban Sandwiches. But there is nothing like our Rum here in Medellin!!! Wepa!!

PaisaAmericano comments on Medellin Living.. Well Moved into my 1st Apartment Viva Medellin

Count me In Hey fellas count me in!! Would love to meet you guys have some drinks and bullshit.

PaisaAmericano comments on Estratos

DG is Right!!! Yo!!! I currently live in a strata 6 neighborhood in Medellin. Its ok, but Id rather live where my grandfather lives, in a strata 3-4 where the women roam all day, there is music playing, Dennis the menaces running around playing soccer, empanadas being sold by the neighborhood hoe. and.....well you get my point. The meat of colombia is in the lower to mid class neighborhoods.

PaisaAmericano comments on Hangovers

I was hungover!!!! for the past couple of days cuz of Southern151 hahaha. Hey bro give me a call.

PaisaAmericano comments on D@M& Long Layovers (Share your horror story)

Miami Mike is right! Brother Southern you should of hit South Beach for a few hours!!!! Sorry man I should´ve mentioned it when we talked. I work at the Fort Lauderdale Airport and it is definately way smoother then Miami. Next time friend, but in the meantime Im here in Medellin waitin for ya with a bottle of Guaro!

PaisaAmericano comments on D@M& Long Layovers (Share your horror story)

My worst layover was also 6 hours, but I met some girls, left to a local bar close to the airport and got smashed!!!! When I got back to the gate they didnt let me on cuz I was intoxicated and had to spend the night. Luckily, I stayed with the pretty ladies!!!! Got to Medellin the next day with a smile on my face.

PaisaAmericano comments on * Who is right?

Play On!! Those kids are gonna fall in love not with the country but with the girls and their liberal views on sex and foreplay. Shit, here in Colombia its 3/1 3 woman to 1 man. When I was 15, 15years ago...when it wasnt all that safe as it is now, I went out with my cousins who were the same age and some a little older. We would go to the parks and hang out and drink and then take walks with the girls, they alway knew where to go and have some fun. We also went to the strip clubs and those older women tore us up. There are Teenage clubs here now and they are gonna be in heaven!!!! If those kids are here for the main reason of having an sex-capade, they got it!!!!

Amazing Large 2 Story House for Sale

Here is a picture of this beautiful house In upscale Belen La Palma Neighborhood Strata 5.

PaisaAmericano comments on Amazing Large 2 Story House For Sale

Great Investment Property Once this neighborhood gets the Metroplus by the end of this year, these homes will skyrocket in price. Also just like "spigrimace" mentioned about the appraisal of his house...there will be many investors wanting to purchase the homes and turning them into apartments or commercial property. This is a great home to put your hard earned dollars in and make them grow, unlike the banks here or there.

PaisaAmericano comments on Amazing Large 2 Story House For Sale

Plus Loft upstairs Sorry forgot to mention that the upstairs has a huge loft considered the 3rd floor, great for a nice room, or a beautiful office overlooking the whole 2nd floor with a nice big window.

PaisaAmericano comments on Colombians in Arizona?!?!

Im from Phoenix Hey belu I was raised in Phoenix and I can totally understand how frustrating it may be to be called a Mexican. I lived it all my life my friend. I am now living in Medellin but my twin brother and a couple of my uncles live there in Tempe and Phoenix. My parents were members of "La Casa de Cultura Colombiana" In Phoenix. It was a small organization of Colombians back in the early 90´s but now they are pretty big and they organize parties and meetings, dinners etc. Colombians do not belong in the desert especially if you are from Barranquilla, but good luck to you. Look, call my brother Jimmy at 480-326-5370, he would love to help you and also put you in contact with other Paisanos. Tell him Johnny told you bout him and go from there, we have many Colombian friends there.

PaisaAmericano comments on Job Openings in Medellin

Interested!!!!! Adamk I recently moved to Medellin, In the states I worked for a major US airline for some years and also for a major Hotel chain. My background is travel/hospitality and tourism. I would love to get some more information on the project you are embarking on. I also know another person here who has the same background as myself and speaks fluently both languages. In regards to salary, I believe a 2,000,000/mo salary is adequate but it depends largely on the type of position and responsibilities. If its a front desk position then probably a little less than that. If you give me the full Opportunity description then I can contact some friends of mine in the industry here and give you the salary range. Also would like to send you my resume for review.

Es "Calor Humano" hermano thats what its all about the human warmth the way that Colombians treat you and express their sincere affection for one another.

PaisaAmericano comments on Another brujeria story

Happened to my cousin I believe what was given is called "Machulengue". It was given to one of my cousins many years ago by an old lady and he was under the spell. My family tried to intervene and brought him to the states but there he was going crazy thinking about this lady every minute of the day and running up the phone bill like crazy. He was taken to a psychiatrist where regular phsych meds counteracted this so called spell. Weird huh???
