Correction The address I gave for Tatiana is incorrect as I left out an "a".

I should have written tatianausuga "at" yahoo.com (of course replace the "at" with at .) Dang spam robots!

I will PM you her cell number.

pablo comments on Medellin, Colombia Apartment Rental, Short or Long Term.

On the contrary. For the location, how nice the apartment is, the privacy, and all the amenities provided at no additional cost the rates are very reasonable.

Antonio Why that is Antonio, the Parque Lleras unofficial "mascot". He just hangs around at various spots mostly up near where he is in the photograph. Some of the restaurants give him food but don't let his "teddy bear" looks fool you as he isn't all that friendly. It's probably because he hasn't taken a bath in a decade and has more fur balls than Garfield on a bad day.

Speaking of such... "This is probably the most shocking piece of film I have ever witnessed in my short life. I had to watch it over and over and over to confirm that it is indeed real. What you are about to see will change the way you look at humanity forever. You have been warned."

He's even Latino!

pablo comments on Expats Living in Medellin?

peanut Try Mangos (disco/bar) and Parque Lleras on the weekends. Lots of nice cafes/restaurants around this small park that is very popular.

BTW, I've seen photos of UC's wife and she is very beautiful. Talking about another man's wife reveals that you have no class sir.

pablo comments on Any Americans in Envigado/Medellin?? help me!

Roncita y Paisita It was very nice meeting you both last week. It's always nice putting a face behind a poster, especially as nice as you two ladies. I know Cowboy won't be able to make it as he's Stateside at the moment and I'm not sure the whereabouts of Greg. You coming Greg, I'd like to meet you.

pablo comments on Any Americans in Envigado/Medellin?? help me!

Hola Cowboy I've met a number of locals that speak English and many that are wanting to learn it. For those foreigners living here that don't yet speak Spanish I can easily understand how they can miss communicating in their own language. I had a lovely time the other evening meeting Paisa29, another poster and some friends ot theirs. At one point we were speaking in Spanish, English and German.

BostonCat, if you're going to be living here it's best to learn the language. Have you thought about enrolling in EAFIT (Rosaura Gomez 261 9500 ex 439) and also study the Pimsleur Spanish course?

Now Greggy you know those translators aren't standing me up. They enjoy my company. Still jealous I see.

Quotes The rules
Submitted by Peter
This site brings together a large community of people with an interest in Colombia. When you write things, follow these two simple rules:
• No personal attacks.
• Stay on topic (Colombia).

Also note that this is NOT a dating site. It is ok to discuss your personal life (as it relates to Colombia), but this is not the right place to ask where you can find dates.

Do not spam.
Do not post commercial messages. You may provide a link to your website, if it's new to us, but don't use this site for blatant self-promotion or spam. It will be deleted.

...............

I can understand Jamie’s frustration. As an American expatriate who is married to a Colombian and owns an introduction agency in Barranquilla he has much to offer the board. I have read many of Jamie’s posts on another discussion forum and have appreciated his input and viewpoint. I have never felt that he has tried to shamelessly promote his business on any discussion forum. It’s my opinion that if someone is willing to take the time and effort to make informative posts, an identification of his business or in this instance, a slogan, is not “blatant self-promotion”, rather it is extending a courtesy both to the poster and providing a benefit to the reader.

Gary Bala, an immigration attorney who posts at other forums has always provided excellent information for those involved in the immigration process. If he joined PBH I’m sure that many readers of the forum would appreciate a link to his web site or contact information. I don’t see how these two examples could not be considered staying on topic or advertising.

I have never viewed PBH as a “dating site” but to say that interpersonal relationships between foreigners and Colombians are not part of Colombian life and culture is absurd.

Based on Peter’s rules it appears that he does allow a poster to link to their web site yet in his post above he contradicts himself.

I have a hard time understanding Peter’s tolerance of certain members that have very little to contribute to the board (and there are plenty) yet potentially drives off helpful posters like Jamie.

pablo comments on 182 days as a tourist??

Fines It is my understanding that the daily fine for overstaying is 350,000 pesos not to mention the hassle and headache of dealing with DAS. If you need to stay longer there are other types of visas available that might better suit your needs.

pablo comments on Credit Cards

Security Be aware of your surroundings when taking money out of an ATM machine in Colombia. Make sure you aren't being watched before or during the transaction as some people will rob you after a withdrawal. Best time is during the day, preferably inside a bank or other business.

Also note that the ATM's will limit the amount of money you can withdraw at one time anywhere from only 200,000 up to 400,000 pesos. If you need more money the process can be repeated. It's best to take out the maximum amount you need each time to reduce excess bank fees.

I cover up the keypad and just go by feel when entering my pin numbers to prevent the unlikely event someone is watching me via a tiny webcam. For more info on ATM security check out this link:

http://www.utexas.edu/admin/utpd/atm.html

BTW, leave your dollars at home except for a minimal amount. You will lose money when converting them into pesos here. It's much better getting cash through ATM's as the exchange rate is very good.

pablo comments on I want to hear opinions about how foreigners feel visiting Colombia

No preocupes señor Tell your husband that he will enjoy your planned trip so much he will want to retire in Colombia. About the only unpleasant experience you might have on your itinerary are those incessant pesky vendors that are in plentiful supply in Cartagena. I'm sure he will be glad he visited your lovely country.

No machetes here Tinto but does a bright shiny new Leatherman count? Based on your post I'm going to recommend that you cut down on some of that nice caffeine intake.

Me, scare the tightwad Gringos? I have too much fun hearing them trying to pronounce español.

pablo comments on What about the guys ;-) ???

pablo I have made some friendships with Colombianos and have found them for the most part to be warm and hospitable. Many have gone out of their way to be very helpful. Like anywhere though, some people want to take advantage of people so don't trust everyone completely.

pablo comments on Luis Fernando Montoya

Chicken Little Greg, your social graces amaze me. I betcha make lots of friends.

Those that are following your "informative posts" about Medellin will simply acknowledge that your perception is somewhat different than others. Sure Medellin can be and is at times dangerous but like I said, many large cities are.

Your experiences with the Paisas are much different than mine and other posters. I feel sorry for you.

Nope, simply using a handle like pablo doesn't mean I am trying to emulate Escobar. What IS your problem?

How about giving it a rest now.

pablo comments on Luis Fernando Montoya

Tranquilo Greg,

To my knowledge I have never met you.

Sure the news article you pointed out was correct about a tragic shooting in Medellin but to use this as proof that this city is more dangerous than other cities is misleading and somewhat naive. I could find many newsarticles about muggings and murders in the States and claim that one particular city was very dangerous. One needs to be careful in any large city and Medellin is no exception.

Perhaps the reason why many Paisas aren't thrilled about leaving their city is that it's a wonderful place. Like what Cowboy pointed out though many have fallen in love with men and have left Colombia. Entiendes?

Is what Hunter said correct? Are you trying to shed a little disinformation?

Now where did I park my cab...Monica wants me to return home.

pablo comments on Luis Fernando Montoya

What's the matter... Greg? Did you have a bad experience with a street walking transvestite in Centro that you have to bad-mouth the lovely Paisa women or could it be that you are a selfish gringo trying to keep this paisa paradise a secret?

Quote:
BUT lets not hype Medellin. At least we have some factual info on Medellin, instead of Pablo's hype.
Most Medellin women want nothing to do with gringos, and there are many problems in Medellin as we can see.

Many paisas like meeting norteamericanos at least the wonderful ladies I have had an opportunity getting to know. And Greggy-boy, that's not hype.

BTW, where is my so called hype, GB? You sure talk a lot of smack in your ten day lifespan on PBH.

pablo comments on Medellin's Metrocable has become the city's most popular tourist attraction

Location Quote:
sounds fantastic, where does it start and where does it end? can't wait til we get back to go for the ride.

Hola DW,

The metrocable is in the northern end of the Metro at the Acevedo station.

When you coming down amigo?

Pablo

pablo comments on long hair

BTW Cowboy, why haven't you activated your PM feature? How can I possible send you photos of Monica?

Mitsubishi, egads those are gas hogs. I'm more a Toyota man if the truth be told. Just don't tell my Mamacita who likes Mazdas.

pablo comments on Please don´t make dirty Medellín´s name

I Agree
I agree with Paisa29 that Medellin is a wonderful place to visit or live. The climate, the friendly people, many things to see and do, but most of all the lovely and beautiful Paisas.

pablo comments on long hair

Actually... I do recommend getting a haircut before coming to Colombia but a buzz cut? No way!

One other area is getting one of those sissy manicures but don't apply the clear polish until you are on the plane and only then in the latrine.

Now that I figured out who the taxi driver is you gave me another name, Pelon. Must be Spanish for something.

BTW, I traded the taxi in for a Mazda 6. It's a better babe magnet.

pablo comments on Medellin's Metrocable has become the city's most popular tourist attraction

I've been on it I went on the metrocable a couple months back and the fifteen minute (or so) RT ride is very enjoyable. There was a long line waiting to go into one of the eight passenger cars but the wait wasn't long. Besides the panoramic view the cable provides one reason of it's popularity is that there is no other additional fee once you are on the Metro. I was the only foreigner I saw waiting in line but I was paying more attention to the cute Paisa I was with at the time. The cable stops three times going up the side of the mountain dropping off and picking up new passengers if there is room. Bring a camera and go around sunset for a spectacular view.

why you kept referring to Monica and Pablo. I was wondering where the photo of my lovely wife and I went missing off the mantel the other day. Did you take it when we were playing poker at mi casa?

Are you taking about me amigo?
I don't even like yellow cars! And no I'm not posting a photo of my lovely Paisa that looks like Monica Belluci. It might be best not to try to convince Greg how wonderful Medellin really is.

Merry Christmas.

pablo comments on Cartagena Better Than Medellin

Bah Humbug and a Merry Christmas to you Morgus. You too Cowboy. Speaking of boring, that post takes the cake. I've been to both cities and think that Cartagena has much to offer but Medellin is anything but. Tell us why you think Medellin is so boring. This ought to be good.

pablo comments on Coffee

More on coffee Hi JC,

Another coffee junkie...cool. I haven't found any stores that roast their own but Le Bon in Parque Lleras might. They do a fairly decent job on espresso although a bit bland to my liking. I brought a small home coffee roaster with me and purchased some green beans from the large commercial roaster you have probably smelled often.

That coffee flavored arequipe sounds good. I too was thinking of visiting Jardin in the future and will look for some while there. What is Jardin like in regards to the women in comparison to Medellin?

I sent you a PM so look in your in box.

pablo comments on Romantic Restaurant in Medellin

You´re correct, it is spelled Hatoviejo. I just looked in the yellow pages and they have three locations. The one I was referring to is the one on Las Palmas just in front of the Hotel Intercontinental (another good dining choice). The other two locations are in Centro and Oviedo.

Speaking of fish, you might give Restaurante Nuqui a try. Very good food at reasonable prices. There are three locations and one of them is in Llano Grande (Paraje 3 puertas).

pablo comments on Romantic Restaurant in Medellin

Here are a few Hola Eric, (you too dwm)

I've been living here for a few months now and have visited a number of nice restaurants to take a date. You will find a number of good cafes in Pargue Lleras although it tends to be very crowded Thursday through Saturday. One Italian restaurant that is easily overlooked at the park is Tramezini. Very good food and nice atmosphere.

For a spendid view of the city, try Tony Roma's on the top floor of the Dann Carlton Hotel. The dining area slowly rotates giving you a 360 degree view of the city. Another fancy but somewhat expensive (by Colombia standards) restaurant is the La Fragatta. Angus Bracus is also very good as well as Hatoviejo.

All these places are in El Poblado or Envigado, two nice areas of Medellin. The best steak I have ever had though was at a road side cafe on the way up to Llano Grande which is near the airport. I wish I could remember the name as it had a beautiful view, a nearby river, but no soft live music. The two inch sirloin steak however I could cut with my fork.

pablo comments on Need Apartment/Condo in Cartagena for 6 Months

Furnished Condo You might contact Mark at www.cartagenacondos.com regarding renting a furnished place.

Internet cafes are common and inexpensive.

By the way, as this is your first trip to Colombia what type of visa are you using that allows a six month stay?

pablo comments on If your ticket is over $700 to get to Colombia

Airfare Peter,

It's your site and you can delete what you want but with all due respect, I disagree with you about deleting Bill's post. This is not a business or a commercial venture nor is he getting rich over this. I used his services before and saved a substantial amount on airfare. With the high price that the airlines are charging for airfare I viewed his post as a way to help other travelers going to Colombia to save money, much like a tip on a good place to stay or restaurant to eat at.
