Oviedo comments on rooms for rent in Prado Centro, Medellin Prado Centro is a nice estrato four barrio with nice architecture, lots of culture and a lot of professionals working and living here. As far as safety goes it's a mostly residencial area so it gets quiet after say 9 or 10 pm so if you're out late I would advise to take a taxi back (wich you probably would do regardless wich part of Medellin you're staying) With some simple precautions and some common sense there's really no reason to have any problems in any part of Medellin. I understand that staying here is not for everybody but if you're not afraid of seeing the real Colombia in my opinion this is one of the most interesting places to stay, very central and besides that it's also a lot more affordable

Oviedo comments on Traveling with my Colombiana girlfriend to New Zealand on a sailboat That's a lot of blue water...........I did this journey a long time ago on a 100ft schooner with stops in the Marquesas, Tonga and the Cook Islands. Was a great experience but no leisure trip. There was no refrigeration, no shower, no engine power nor a GPS on board. Anyway wish you good luck on your trip.

Oviedo comments on Best Neighborhood in Medellin: Great art and local culture, minus douchebags You could contact Tony Evanko, A North American who is running an alternative art space here in Prado Centro. Very well connected with the Art scene in Medellin and Colombia, bringing in artists from all over the world. He also rents out some rooms. The website is www.casatrespatios.org/

Oviedo comments on Where to buy a laptop in Medellin I've bought a laptop at Panamericana a year ago. They have really good prices on computers and sometimes flatscreen tv's. Make sure you have plenty of time if you buy something as they took about 3 hours of going through paperwork for warranty and registration. Also they insist on explaining how a laptop works........like putting the battery in etc so bring a good book to kill some time.......

Oviedo comments on Rooms for rent in Prado centro, Medellin The house is located on Calle Moore no 50A-60. I bought the house a year ago and have updated electric, changed all the water pipes and built new bathrooms in every room. Right now there are 18 rooms all with private bathrooms. The idea was to change it into a B&B in the near future, however I,ve been getting trouble from DAS in bogota with my business visa so I shelved that idea for right now.....they sure don't make it easy to bring in your money and provide employment in Colombia. Also any new hotel in Prado Centro is required to be at least four stars wich means services like bar, restaurant, room service and parking facilities. I,ve been working on a website but haven't finished yet but anyway there are a couple of pictures on it so feel free to have a look.......www.61prado.com

Oviedo comments on Overnight bus I've taken night buses Cali - Medellin several times. I take a sleeping pil and don't wake up till I get there. So as far as it being dangerous....couldn't answer that one.

Oviedo comments on Whats with Itagui ? "on the streets like argentina, peru and all of those..it is just plain scary at night.....you will get mugged or shot in that area if you are walking!" I'm in el centro pretty much all week, day and night. Never had any problems. There's a lot of police patrolling and altough some parts aren't pretty I wouldn't say it's unsafe at all. Even at night just stick to the main well lit streets like La Playa, Oriental, Bolivar, Parque Berrio and you'll be just fine. One part of town that I wouldn't go at night is Cisneros the part north of San Juan.....once those tire shops close the place is pretty scary looking.

Oviedo comments on Hostel thief travelling South America now in Colombia - IMPORTANT Glad there are a few people left with some common sense. Somebody doing the right thing trying to prevent travelers being ripped off..........only to get taken down by a couple of troll sniffing nerds.
