osuspain comments on Requesting Info on Palmira take a bus trip to buga it is about 45 minutes from palmira if I remember correctly. Palmira is a small place where even the some of the locals I came in contact with were like WTF is here. The shopping center El 14, centro, a pool. I took salsa lessons while I was there that was cool.

osuspain comments on If the girlfriend is advising against bringing it, it is because she knows the risk. Therefore, avoid the thought or idea of risky possibilities unless it is an item that can be written off as stupid tax. A piece of advice from my learning exp regarding arrogance. I spent x plus years in the military, went to Iraq for 1 year plus vigilant and observant individual. However, I was drugged (burandunga) and raped in Cartagena. The deal is even a sniper shooter is not bullet proof. Hence, cool about the marshal arts thats a bonus. I will return to Cartagena it my favorite spot in Colombia. Enjoy the it will be an awesome time for you guys. Plus like the others say the locutorios have internet available.

osuspain comments on Another one bites the dust.... Thank you, everyone for the suggestions. After analyzing the variety of possibilities this can play out. I have came to the conclusion my time and energy is worth more than letting this drag out for a couple of years to trial for a battle on principle. I have crunched the numbers and decided to pay him off to sign the papers for a mutal divorce agreement. I can only laugh at this nonsense situation. thanks again.

osuspain comments on Another one bites the dust.... I cut all communications after i informed him that it is better to look for a job. I stopped sending money and he got angry, insulting, demeaning etc...therefore, i cut all the communication. I guess if the cow is getting milk then one has reason to feel "safe". yeah it is a duh situation.

osuspain comments on Another one bites the dust.... Monokoke28 Ok, well that answers that. They have something up thier sleeve in Colombia because his sister sent me a nasty gram and she stated that she was a witness that I abandoned him. yo entiendo y apoyo la posicion de mi hermano.

osuspain comments on Another one bites the dust.... Mononoke 28 This is worth looking into I wonder if the fact that I was unaware I was suppose to register the marriage in the USA until a co-worker of mine from Panama asked me that question? She thinks it is not valid in the US only because her husband of 15 years is a US Citizen and had to do those steps. However, the laws may have changed. Therefore, if it is not valid in the U.S. then how can I get divorced in the U.S. I remember reading a comment from Gator that it doesn't matter if it is registered it is still legal in both the US and Colombia. I read all the threads on divorce and Palmira before I posted to learn people went through. It appears that the main theme is money and visa but each experience has several different factors of how it has played along and how it has played out. Thanks for the looking out I will further investigate the possibility.

osuspain comments on Another one bites the dust.... lpdiver I will see what is the price to pay him off I was trying to avoid handing him over money as the same song is played. And to get a copy of the divorce record on the back of his birth certificate sounds smart too just incase one day he gets his hands on the visa and shows up demanding more. jejeje The quitting the job was pure way to manipulate the "I gave up everything for you" BS. I appreciate the ideas. Thank you,

osuspain comments on Another one bites the dust.... gringoloid I understand the red flags were before it took the flags to hit me in the face to wake up. Basically, the marriage fell apart when I woke up and realized my personal growth has been compromised through the disconnection of my reality. This action was his antics to achieve his goals of feeding off someone’s growth. He is a talented artist and knows how the brain works to acquire control. Of course when I got "lost" in translation I thought I was doing the "right" thing. This individual is a puppet master. It was gradual because he knew if he came off as the money and visa hungry person he would loose me so it is all a mind game.

osuspain comments on Another one bites the dust.... albatros I will state it more clearly. Yes, the last time I saw him was when we were married in October 6 months ago. The process is lengthy to get married. For, example each notary has different requirements and steps need to be taken to align dates of paperwork to be possessed and coordination. By saying that I had to of arrived prepared. What has transpired since the wedding were only the red flags snacking me in my face. I am educated and was played like a violin. The experience was like an encounter with a vampire and because one of many factors was a lack of education increased the survival tactics and low street savvy. I learned the overall imbalance will disharmonize the relationship and to offset it thinking "love" is the key is an expensive, painful, disillusioned life lesson to learn.

osuspain comments on Another one bites the dust.... Greg He has never been to the USA. I need to divorce him in the Country I married him in because if I do get a divorce in the USA and then send it to get legalize it has to go before a judge to accept the process from the other country. I will not let the situation get to the point where I sign the contract to support him in the USA. We have been married 6 months since October. I took the I130 paperwork with me to Colombia and filled it out while I was there to make sure we had all the correct data and signatures. He filled out the 325G form and signed it, made copies of his passport, cedula, kept all the receipts, sent the acto y registro to Bogota for an apostile while we were on our Honeymoon. When we arrived to Palmira the papers had arrived. When I arrived back to the states I compiled all the data and made table of contents it was at least a 50 page packet I organized lots of hours. I sent it the following week after the wedding to immigration with the $355.00 check. Basically, it was half way through the process before I pulled the plug on the operation screw the gringa.

osuspain comments on Another one bites the dust.... Esteban I am interested in the annulment possibility actually that would be ideal. Does an annulment require a trial? Are you in a position to be contracted for this issue? This is a copy of the email he sent does it have any weight? Keep in mind this was fake only to get me to communicate with him anyway possible.

osuspain comments on Another one bites the dust.... Esteban....the mutual agreement went out the window when he backed out. unless the email can validate he demanded the divorce. We were married in Palmira in Oct 2007 and that was the last time we have seen each other. The longest time we have lived together is for the 2 weeks at a time period as a tourist . He quit his job in Cartagena in August 2006 and moved to Palmira because someone that worked for un juzgado told him he had to be in palmira to do the paperwork for the wedding. Hence he claims he gave up everything for me and he cannot find work. I have supported him since he quit his job. The whole thing was antics from the start the point is that was some backround information.
|
|
osuspain comments on Another one bites the dust.... it was a mutual agreement and he then backed out. He then went back to my attorney and told him that my reasons for wanting a divorce are not valid and he is going to contest it even if it takes a couple of years.

osuspain comments on Exchange Rates Another option would be to exchange at Decamaron Hotel. Any taxi driver knows Decameron so that is not a big deal. Even if you’re not a guest...just walk in and it is on the right at the front desk. The exchange rate is not that great however it is better then the black market rate. As everyone else states ATM is the best option.

osuspain comments on Nightclubs in Cartagena There is another spot by the bridge up top it reminds me of cafe del mar kind of the same effect but it is clear on the other side. I can't remember the name...it is also nice. Occasionally, they have bands they charge a cover. It is outside as well with the ocean view. Mr Babilla is cool they predominantly play Salsa and they cross over every now and then. I agree Babar is nice too they have a cover as well.

osuspain comments on Cartagena taxis Last time I went to Decameron from the airport in Cartagena we paid 12,000 pesos. There is a stand I believe on the right hand side as soon as one exits the airport. The stand has a person working inside that gives a ticket with a rate to the destination. Therefore, the taxi drivers out front have (so they say) charge that rate. However, if you walk right up to the taxi's outside they will price it how they want to. They spot tourists out like Chit smells to anyone. As everone else states to el centro its 4000 try to carry the exact amount have it ready in the hand but not flashy so one does not have to dig around the wallet or purse and get out.

osuspain comments on CAN ANY LET ME KNOW OF A SITE THAT WOULD SHIP PERFUME TO COLOMBIA FROM THE U.S. - HAS ANYONE HAD EXPERIENCES?? I use www.1vende.com just select English then select Colombia here is the link right to the site http://www.1vende.com/stores/co/index.cfm?refwebid=0 I have sent a cake on a birthday and basically this site has connections with shops and bakery's in the city of interest. The cake was fresh, wrapped nicely and came with a card. It was about $30.00 not bad at all. The family was impressed they all gathered ate it and sent me pictures of how it arrived. I am guessing the rest of the orders on the site work the same which I will use at a later date.

osuspain comments on What is your closest brush with danger in Colombia? Funny incident…. My husband (boyfriend at the time) and I were going to “Las isles de Rosario. We stopped to buy some juice right out front. The guy asked if I wanted it with water or milk. I said water, he had it with milk and we drank it headed to the boat. We are at the top and all the seats are close together. I began sweat profusely. I asked my husband if he was sweating and really hot. He said no…I said I took a shower this morning it is maybe 8a.m I am not hot but something is not quite right. All the sudden I get up and was like WHERE IS THE BATHROOM. Jajaj Had diarrhea for 30 minutes used all the toilet paper jajaj and felt awesome after that. Dangerous…. My husband (boyfriend at the time) and I were in Palmira. We took a taxi and the driver stated he had to make a detour to pick up his wife. My husband said ok, we are not on a time schedule…I touched his leg and whispered we should take another cab. The taxi had started to drive a little out of our way. My husband through a CHIT FIT and said he can “read people, he knows that we were fine that we were not in Iraq; he will not let anything happen to me. We made it to the house jajajaja but discussing it all in front of the driver. Yup the driver did get his wife jajaj. His family lectured him for a while stating that I had all the right to question what just happen that I am the “Gringa he is the “Colombian. What is a normal day for him may not be one with me.

osuspain comments on Descontructing The Popular Myth About The Big Bad Tough Colombiano I totally agree GIB…. I was having an innocent conversation with my cousin a high ranking official and his wife a Paisa in Cartagena regarding property my father gave me addresses to look at a while back and said to pick one (which was BS but we already discussed this one). Her aunt and uncle live and have a business in Cartagena. The Paisa and I went over to the families business and she commented to them we were headed to look at some property my father owned and to accompany us. This is two different sides family they did not know about each other’s existence until I came in the picture. They are decent presentable people. I had no reason not to trust them. This was “my family one needs 4 eyes and ears at all times. They asked my fathers name totally causally. TARGET…at whatever angle one can if given the opportunity. They somehow found his information in the U.S. jajaja probably the high-ranking official cousin used his work to get the information…I don’t know. They contacted him and offered him a low, low price and he closed the deal while I was there. jajajaj it was not even for sale until the offer. These people aunts and uncles of cousins saw me and there face was in shock. They said “Oh this is your father….what a small world. Now they have a hotel up in Cartagena making bank. LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS…….

osuspain comments on Being safe but not paranoid Also, make photocopies of any identification or credit cards prior to the trip. Leave a set of copies with someone very trustworthy in the U.S. in case one is lost or stolen one can identify it quickly and call the 800 number while knowing what the c.c. number. That saved me on a trip to Colombia. Went out the night before my flight in Bogotá. I got in about 4:15am and had to leave for the airport at 4:15am literally grabbed the bags and headed out. When I had to pay the taxes I checked my back pocket and the c.c. was gone. either it slipped out or whatever. However, I had all the photocopies in the U.S. and called from the airport. Immediately, it was cancelled, no charges had been made. During my flight home I was not worrying it all was taken care of.

osuspain comments on IT jobs in Bogota? Actually, working at the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá does not exactly require one to be fluent in both languages. It really depends on the ad itself. Some HR ads state it requires a certain level of Spanish or vise versa depending if it is a U.S. or Colombian Native. Although, one will need to get a Colombian working visa prior to employment with the U.S. Embassy even if they are a U.S. Citizen and would really only move there on the basis of a somewhat secure/stable job. As a OIF Veteran (indicating a preference eligible) I looked at this option prior so that I could be with my husband while all the papers went through however, if I am there and sign on to a contract it may complicate the process and possibly a conflict of interest. The HR link to the U.S. Embassy jobs in Bogota is.....http://bogota.usembassy.gov/hr.html
|
|
osuspain comments on Another example regarding taxi precautions would be to have a native call the taxi company. The taxi company gives un clavo just a number. When the taxi arrives they state the number. Therefore, if the number matches it is a little more secure. The company has the driver’s data and all that information noted. Also, have the native be seen by the taxi driver so they know someone is pendiente de ti. When I needed to get to places in Bogota we would use this method. Also, when I was in the taxi I would call my cousin and give little details on what street we were passing etc…and we would stay connected until I arrived to the other families house.

|
osuspain comments on IT jobs in Bogota? A place maybe to check out would be "Ola" have a cousin that worked IT there she had to be bi-lingual (English). However, she is Colombian. It is difficult for many professionals that are Colombian natives in whatever field to acquire employment in Colombia. If they do get a job the pay is low in comparison what one from another country is use to.

osuspain comments on AN INTENSE COLOMBIA SITUATION CatGirl I really appreciate the intent however the minute someone says something radical (meanwhile riding the fence on the post) because of a comment then…change face. In my perspective it becomes questionable regarding what one feels is important. If it’s having cyber “friends‿ or taking the road less traveled. There are different types of people in this world...leaders, followers, yes men and people that wonder aimlessly. I am new here too it might be rare to PBH to have 2 new people at once or something although I can’t seem to really believe that because many posts say newbie. I apologize if some try and label when you and I really know we are not the same person. That is fact as long as we know that…that is all that really matters. Suerte chica!!

osuspain comments on AN INTENSE COLOMBIA SITUATION rocinante Actually, I have a great life. Being as young as I am having accomplished all that I have it is wonderful! Yes, I am interested in the other female’s situation. Nena, por Dios deja la bobada. I love Colombia it is an amazing Country. One’s energy level is gauged by the positives and negative outputs. For every action there is a reaction that is life. I cannot pin point what the real issue “rocinante‿ because it is a lot deeper then my post however good luck. Feliz ano un besito

|
osuspain comments on AN INTENSE COLOMBIA SITUATION gringoinbogota You are correct…the issue happened in Colombia. However, that does not mean it is not on the father trail. I realize this issue is not personally important to you as an individual. That is ok with me. However, I am interested in the story of the girl in the past. One never knows it could be the same person that did this to her. If you happen to stumble on the old situation I am interested in reading the thread. More or less how she approached the issue but if the posting went down as to thinking she was a prostitute, stone throwing and depending on her level to cope psychologically at the time it might not have gotten very far. I appreciate the criticism because when this does get to the point of solution I will be in the same position. It is good to be amused but it is another story when it is closer to home.

osuspain comments on International Bank Fees Hello, I am not sure who that person was however; through my personal experience with international bank fees are as follows. I pay $5.00 for each withdrawal and additional .25 cents for the ATM fee. Although, my mother has an account with a credit union in the U.S. they do not charge her international withdrawals. Another example is a sibling of mine has an account with CITIBANK and she does not get the international withdrawal fee when taking money out of another CITIBANK ATM in Colombia. For example, on my Bank Account it states…. 12/12/2007 ATH B.BOG CC 12/12WITHDRWL... -$0.25 12/12/2007 ATH B.BOG CC 12/12WITHDRWL... -$5.00 12/12/2007 ATH B.BOG CC 12/12WITHDRWL... -$24.88 All this for a simple 50,000-peso withdrawal Possibly, the other option could be when going to a big store like EXITO and get cash back by putting your pin as a debit. However, I cannot recall factually it that works. That might have been just a little plan I had in my head and when I voiced it my husband was like “yeah right estas loca‿ ajjajja they do that here. So, I really do remember if that works. Good Luck!

osuspain comments on AN INTENSE COLOMBIA SITUATION wendell13 I am me. Not an old long time poster. I have been an observer for a long time. Interesting topics, informative I successfully put together all the papers to get married in Colombia through these posts. I realize I am an outsider because I am new and I probably dropped the bomb with the 1st post being what it was. But I could not find any other Colombian PBH posts of similar situations as oppose to the wedding process. Not that this is the only source but my connection was Colombian board to Colombian situation. That’s it nothing more or less.

osuspain comments on AN INTENSE COLOMBIA SITUATION Gator I understand you call it like you see it. If you are an attorney then it is your job to present the facts. If 1 1 equals 2 then 2 times 1 cannot equal 2. It is all en perspective. I was staying in bocagrande with another half sibling the 40 year old and her daughter. My father (I am guessing everyone is well aware by now as one stated below this comment) called a few days to let us know he was flying to Cartagena for house business and he said oh that property that you like en el centro. He said I am getting the papers to sign them over to you at the attorney’s office so we will need to meet up. Mentiras the joke was on me. Anyway, he flew down there and 2 days later calls and says he has it all together meet at his place. We get in a taxi and drive a little ways. We get out and I am like this doesn’t look like an attorneys office. He said oh this is my other property and I want you to see it and maybe you will want this one instead of the other. It was further past el naval. It is a business and we sat and had a couple of costenas and toured the place. Anyway, by then he said the attorney’s closed que we will go tomorrow. Long story short we end up at Mr Babilias for a couple of hours that was the verbal plan I was going home to bocagrande that was my plan. I left my drink unattended BAD MOVE. I asked him if he was going to stay at the table to keep an eye on my drink while I am gone. It was like 9pm the place was empty a couple of other tables and people at the bar stools. I came back from the bathroom and he said you should not leave your drink unattended people put drugs in it and rape them. I had 1 copa he was like lets go….left the bottle on the table. I know what went down (I will spare everyone the details) until the point that I don’t sounds crazy but my conscious was still aware but I had no will power. I could not speak my mind it was like a remote control car. I woke up open my eyes big look at my body, looked to the left and he is in his boxers on his face down with his left arm on my stomach. This was like the 4th time I have seen him. I was learning so much at school on how important it is to know family history….genes etc. I was curious how I had some many other siblings from many women. I started to timeline and ask questions and dug till whoops got too close. I realize the law is the law it is not moral or ethical it is what it is.

osuspain comments on AN INTENSE COLOMBIA SITUATION Lowell Yeah, I am pretty sure it happens more then one thinks but people keep quite probably because of the reactions as some of the posters. Like troll, screwball, hairball etc obviously these are tedious but get the drift. Also, the reactions from the nuclear support system occasionally cannot handle it put it out there the family name what not. Todo el chisme. Families are systems and operate interdependently. Each systems weighs differently depending if it is the micro, exo, meso or macro osea…how much weight or connectedness each system has to each other. Yes, thanks I have learned a very important life lesson. Jajaja my mom calls me "una gallina de oro" para mi esposito. There is typically a bad apple in most trees but it does not mean they are all rotten.
