omargue comments on Full coverage insurance in Colombia? for a honda 600rr? you can get a separte insurance that covers 75% if stolen. its a seguro de robos. i personally love those bikes but it really sucks riding in the city with one like that. too many holes in the roads and harder to go in and out between buses and cars. i've seen it done but not as easy as smaller bikes.

omargue comments on Cedula/Passport yes they can because i did the same thing in the miami consulado and for the cedula they send all papers to NYC and each Consulado is the same as a registraduria in Colombia. well also 2 years ago my cousin visited Colombia with the same situation as you, born in Colombia and traveled to the US at a young age, well he went with only his American passport and didnt have any problems, he said that they gave him shit for not having the Colombian passport but you are going in as an american. your constraseña is the same as a cedula, its that cedulas take like a year to get. to be honest you really dont need cedula or colombian passport when only visiting. also i remember 4 years ago my dad (Colombian and American citizen) went on vacation only with his american passport and didnt have any problems, you are going in as an american using the 60day visa. its still good to have the other stuff but its not important for this vacation because US immigration doesnt have your Colombian passport on there file. i am also travelling for new years but will need both passports because they have them both registered, but unfortunately i have to go to the NY Consulado because they messed my cedula up with an incorrect date of birth and want to have this taken care of before i travel because i do need this before i go, they will issue me another constraseña and i{ll have to wait another year for my cedula and have to pick up in NY

omargue comments on What is the average salary raise per year in Colombia? that sounds true viajero, but i remember my contract stating what i made and it increased every year for example when i started working at the english institute i was getting paid 840.000 then i got a raise to 876.000 then my final pay was at 924.000 so my contracts always had what i made but maybe there was something in the contract that stated about increased yearly salaries are applied.

omargue comments on Colombian's stereotypes of Gringos ok coming from me, i am a Colombian American, lived in both places so i can give you my opinon. yes many people in Colombia think Americans or gringos are rich just because they make the dollar, nothing more. its true, what they see on TV is their perseption of the US and its usually high class rich americans. but i said most, not all. I have always told them this, you make the dollar and you spend the dollar, just like you make the peso and you spend the peso. when saying that they understand putting it into persective, just imagine. rent in Colombia in my house was 350.000 pesos but any small apt in the states will cost 600-700 dollars which converting it to pesos is 1.4 millions. so just with that said they would think you are rich paying rent of 1.4 millions (which is true in Colombia) Sometimes its because they just dont know any better, its not their fault they cant travel and visit the US, they would love to just to realize how it is and then go back to Colombia. but if you ever notice, the ones that travel are the rich Colombians that are more artificial, but the ones that are more middle/middle low class are the ones that say that they would like to visit but most of them wouldnt like to live because they wont be able to adjust. For them going to the corner to get their fruits and vegetables for lunch, anything and everything can be found and pay a hard laborer for the day with only 20.000 pesos; those are just some examples. in the US they wont be able to find that, if they ran out of any fruits or vegetables they would have to go in there car and drive to the supermarker and to get any job done in your house that requires hard work your looking at 100 dollars plus, and if you need for example your pants tailored it would cost no more than 6.000 pesos and it'll be done right away, here in the states i dont know how much it would cost but i imagine at least 10 dollars and you have to wait and wait for everything. another example, i had to take my moms car to get an oil change, it took them 1 hour to do it and when i got to the shop the 2 mechanics were sitting watching TV, when they finally got up to get the car it took 1hour for a 20 min. job, but in Colombia they would have already had the hood popped before you even got out of the car..... those are just some of my opinions, maybe i got off the subject but overall i like Colombia much more than the US. I have nothing against the US but it is true, Latin people are more friendly in my opinion, maybe not friendly but maybe more polite and respectful, but thats just my opinion. but of course what you say when they see a gringo they want to make a buck off of him.....

omargue comments on What is the average salary raise per year in Colombia? not really viajero123, im going to say most because i am not sure if it is all but yes most all people get the 6.5% raise. this year was 26.000 for 1 minimum salary which is like 480.000 more or less, so for 1.000.000 it is alittle more than 2 minimum salaries. remember that they go by how many minumum salaries you make, just about always. i made 2 minimum salaries which was after this years raise....924.000 a year

omargue comments on Cedula/Passport yes you can get your passport with constraseña, might as well do it at the consulado because its a fast process hassle free and you get it on the spot. when you travel carry both passports, you enter as american because you are on vacation (60 days or less). and when you exit you need to show your american passport to show your american citizenship. it isnt necessary at all to show Colombian passport, immigration will probably hassle you for Place of Birth but al in all you are a US citizen so dont worry unless you are planning on staying more than 60 days. if you are going to stay for long and are under 28 you need a registro militar which costs i think 115 for 2 years at the Consulado in the US.

omargue comments on are there any secretive agencies in colombia? you have to search around in the city, you'll find out by word of mouth....trust me...
omargue comments on What is the average salary raise per year in Colombia? probably like 50.000 pesos in january. in January 2008 we received a 26.000 peso increase to one minimum salary, 1 million pesos is about 2 minimum salaries so it is double but remember that everything else goes up in price to accomadate the pay increase. ex. bus, services, education, food...etc

omargue comments on CALI outrageous burglary gringo spy, if you dont like Cali then dont go back but dont talk shit about the city. it is a city full of beautiful nice people. its not as clean as others but it doesnt justify what you are saying. all cities are full or crime, ALL cities in ALL countries
omargue comments on CALI outrageous burglary im a born US citizen with Dual Citizenship of US and Colombia. Even though i am Colombian everyone in my neighborhood knew i was from the US. i was poor and lived in a poor neighborhood and my wife and family were all poor as well. nobody ever tried to rob me or steel from us just because im american, we got by just like everyone else. if someone would have robbed me it would have been only to rob someone not me in particular because i am American. i have another Colombian friend who is very American (lived 25 years in the states) and a big show off and loves to make noise (in english) in public places and no one has robbed him. They will not always rob you because you are american, but because they want to rob. everyone in Colombia gets robbed, the poor and the rich. you always have to be cautious, just like we say.....no da papaya....

omargue comments on Seeking advice on having documents sent to Colombia from overseas. UPS all the way, the german company DHL is going out of business in the US and are losing all there contracts to UPS and FEDEX. I am personally a UPS driver and know the process and what we do go get you the package. if you send it next day air it will be there by 10.30 in the morning. if not by latest 3pm (next day saver) USPS is no good, takes way too long.....

omargue comments on Cali Apartments for short term rental - Where are they? go to the Intercontinental or the Dann Carton hotel, get a luxury suite, im sure they have them.....they are located in the Peñol

omargue comments on its common, i also had friends the same age with the same girlfriends. the parents don't always see it as a problem, but it depends on the family. my sister in law was 15 when she started going out with husband (now married) and he was 24 at the time....but she was already a full figured woman at the time.... its not a big issue in Colombia to see that, i also had a 15 year old very interested in me and i was 25, she was beautiful but i wasnt interested because i was with my wife and love her very much.....but if i were interested we could have easily been together without social issues from the public or law.....

omargue comments on Cost of an in town move in Colombia oh yea, obviously go with someone who is a native speaker and have them talk and nogociate, unless you already know how to talk with the people and be real demanding, if not they'll definitly take advantage....
omargue comments on Cost of an in town move in Colombia usually 50K but nothing more, say thats what you have to pay, take it or leave it.....but obviously he has to help in the move, just say its not much. also this is what you do, the morning of the move go to the nearest Galeria, if in Cali go to Galeria Alameda, they are always lined up waiting for those kind of jobs everyday allday....doesn't matter where you are, they are always there with there trucks....so you pick...

omargue comments on Planning to move to Colombia el puede hacer q le da la gana parce, a voz q le importa?.... Trebor13 if you're going to bring in 100million pesos a year, you'll have no problem and live good. buy a decent house get everything you'll need. if you want to invest in something else, buy a house with an apt. or 2, rent them out and that'll give you a good monthly income without doing anything....a good bilingual school in cali costs i think around 14 million a year, so it'll probably be the same in medellin....with that kind of money and savings, i recomend starting your own business, invest your money on something that will give you an income, even something small can produce if you set it up nicely....
