Olgalucia comments on Tips with a colombian girl from Medellin

KuBaN She's probably saying "vos sos" not "sois". Just an informal way of saying "you are". I don't know if anyone else in Colombia says "vos", but I know that in Medellin we do.
Is it okay to be romantic??????
It is a RULE to be romantic.

Good luck

Olgalucia comments on Why Colombia remains a third world country

True Megustamuchisimo should not have used that title or blame the country, but I have to agree with him about Avianca. Here's reason #2 since Megusta...forgot to mention his other reasons, LAS CUCARACHAS in the plane!!!

Olgalucia comments on Boyfriend wants to go back to Colombia..broken hearted

J., hello??!!
You said "we are very much in love" - I think you should rephrase that by saying "I am very much in love with him but he is not with me" and he knows it too!!! what he's really saying is: I don't love you enough to make any sacrifices. I want out.

Olgalucia comments on Mexican Spanish vs. Colombia Spanish

Mr. Hollywood, I agree with you 99%. The 1% disagreement comes in that no matter what state, country, province, etc. the Colombian parents live in, they are totally way out of line. And it's funny you should mention eraser as an example. My daughter came to me one day and said her Spanish teacher told her not to say "borrador" because that's incorrect. The correct word is "goma". I told my daughter I have no idea what the correct word is, but seeing as she has forever heard me say borrador and that's what she learnt at home, she could keep on saying "borrador". I left it at that – Why make a big stink about it?

GL and Elmo I hate to agree with both of you (being a woman and all), but I know first hand as I've also done my share of toilet cleaning!!

Olgalucia comments on

Elmo, You got it backwards:

Barranquilla is the "largest industrial city and port on the Colombian Caribbean region and the FOURTH largest city of Colombia. In the 1940s, Barranquilla WAS the second largest city in Colombia and one of the most modern cities on the Caribbean, but later local administrations, given to widespread corruption, brought about a decline in the standard of living. As government investment increased in other Colombian cities, Barranquilla's national stature was surpassed."

Olgalucia comments on Something better to talk about

strobers, This is what Davie wrote: "and have learned that all Colombians are totally depraved, and the women sluts (beautiful, but sluts)" Could you please look up the meaning of "gentleman" before calling him such.

Olgalucia comments on

lpliver I doubt that was accidentally HAHAHAHA!!!

Olgalucia comments on Google Earth and colombian cities

Colombianboard Isn't it more surprising that Bogota, considering it's the capital city, does NOT have a METRO and Medellin does?

Olgalucia comments on Geography, 5 continents, well at least for us Colombians

That's funny you should bring this subject up Many a times, I have been involved in arguments about this topic. I was always taught, there are six:

America, Europe, Africa, Antarctica, Asia and Australia - This way, Central America in included in our world!!

Never had it been explained in as much detail as you have, Web - Well Wikipedia - that is.

Olgalucia comments on no colombians in Texas?

Hey guys!! Colombian111 only said he's tired of tex-mex food that's all!!! He didn't say anything about Mexicans - Relax!! Colombians have a problem with Mexicans??? Not this Colombian!!

Olgalucia comments on I guess I did not beat the odds...

No need for mitts, Miguel I know you were being nice

Olgalucia comments on I guess I did not beat the odds...

Miguel, I agree with Mark, except the part about she might call you once she is in Colombia begging to come back. Sounds like she has a plan and I know what it is, but won't divulge it. It's happened to a lot of men that bring girls from Cuba to Canada. Only they don't wait until the second day!!! when they get to the airport, they tell the husband how it's not going to work, thank you, bye!!!
Good luck Miguel - you're being taken in.

Olgalucia comments on Reconciling with Colombian Nicknames

But those are not really nicknames, are they? Wouldn't a nickname be a name to use instead of your name, eg Oscar=Cacho; My cousin Doralba=Pucha; Nelson=Chivo; etc.
flaco, gordo, cielo, negro, negra are sweet words (if you can call it that) used mostly in relationships (husband/wife; boyfriend/girlfried). I have to tell you though, I have a real problem calling people by their nicknames even when they insist I use their nickname!!!

Olgalucia comments on Need help in getting my original birth certificate from bogota, columbia

AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH It is beyond me that a person who was born in COLOMBIA does not know how to spell COLOMBIA!!!

Olgalucia comments on Marriage Woes

jnlondon Are you sure she's no schizophrenic? That's what it sounds like. I wish you luck in getting out of it, with your son. She might become more aggressive. Maybe you should try and get a doctor's certificate confirming her mental condition and then take it to a lawyer.

Good luck

Huy que pena. I would not have said anything had I known that unfortunate event that brought upon your downfall. Peace

Olgalucia comments on

You chose a very appropriate nick for you. Congratulations!
So what if it took you 40 years to get your passport! Maybe you weren't smart enough to get it earlier. So what if the people you saw with US passports in Rio Negro didn't speak English!! Good for them. I love to see more Colombians coming to North America and getting a better chance just like your parents and mine DID!!!

Olgalucia comments on Colombians in another country

Nataly,

If you are now in Ontario, and you are only 12 years old, I assume you are enrolled at a school, you should have no problem making friends and learning English. You will learn English in no time.

P.s. don't post personal info online
