observer comments on My experience with an american man (first part)

Mother of 2 what a woman All I can say girl is that you are an amazing woman, and yes please be a colombian woman for that old texan. I am a gringo, and it seems to me that only colobian women are enough woman for a gringo. I am glade that you have made the old guy eat better, so many of us gringos are just to dang fat. For the most part gringos don't cheat, and that is another place where you are lucky. Some of us do, but as I have said on these posts before, I only know one Colombian man who does not cheat on his girl.

I just talk with my colombian friend today and he said that 99.99 % of the colombian men cheat and the other .01 % is just gay. He told me this was a saying you have here.

Fallow you heart Colombiana and good luck.

observer comments on In the Colombian Culture, what happens if the Husband catches his wife cheating in a Marriage?

not to make people upset But just so you know it still is legal in Texas to kill your spouse when caught in the act of adultry.

observer comments on biking in bogata

As far as shops Looks like Evan already invited you, we also have a shop on the 64 which could be a landing ground for you. evan and I can take you on some great rides/ hills and hidden beauties, If your bike is Ultegra or better just bring it, maybe even 105, if you have a nice fork, and or carbon/ tie frame.

As far as bike box charge on planes is concerned, every time I have travelled with a bike I have snuck my way through with a little sweet talk, but yeah normally their is a charge, and honestly I do not know what it is, because I have never paid it he he.

observer comments on Moving to Bogota

Car use It is true that I have a car, well trooper in truth, but i hardly use it, for the most part I walk use taxis ride my bike sometimes, and take buses, I bought the truck only for work, you might want to wait an see if you really want a car? I don't know, but its not hard at all to get around the city and the taxis are soooo cheap, a bus ride only costs you .35 cents, a txi only 1 to 2 USD, and on long hauls 5 bucks, cheap. I don't know just an idea.

observer comments on my long lost love in Medellin Help!

If you met true Colombian Let me tell you sweet heart, If your piasa won't chet on you, than you more than likely have found a catch of a life time. The only problem I see with Colombian men is the Machismo/colombian style, they cheat on their women way to often. Good luck, if both of you have romance in your hearts still-------why not.

observer comments on I'm looking Personal (in my apartment) DSL connection in el Centro de Bogota

yeah that is true, but cable net is faster than Supercable, even though they offer the same speeds, but that is the best that you are going to get, at leat that I know of.

observer comments on I'm looking Personal (in my apartment) DSL connection in el Centro de Bogota

Also just so you know it is so cheap to have cable here that it is not worth taking anything else

observer comments on I'm looking Personal (in my apartment) DSL connection in el Centro de Bogota

cars well in my exprience cars are about the same price as the states, but that might be because I am from California. I always thought that Colombians were just blowing wind when they said it was so expensive, but maybe that is the case. Just look in the paper and wheel and deal. I paid kelly whosesale blue book for my trooper, not even kelly retail. you would have a hard time pulling that off in the states, I mean you can do that no doubt, but I did it here so, to me the prices seem the same. New Prices are so close, that the difference really will only depend on your exchange rate.
good on you. What are you looking at spending? I live in Rosales and love it. you can find something anywhere from 1,000,000 to 6,000,000 I might know someone who has something.

observer comments on I want to live in Medellin? But will it be safe for living as a foreigner?

Colombia is better than any think Colombia does not ususlly have the highest murder rate per capita in the world, it hands down does, but you need to realize that there are only 42,000,000 people in the country, and the majority of this murder happens outside of the cities, with FARC, drug, etc. related happenings. And since Uribe has enter in to office these numbers have been falling, for example in 2001 murder in colombia was 30,000, and in 2002 that murder rate was cut over half down to 14,000, since it has improved more no doubt. I have researched the facts, but I would say put a little time in and research it for yourself. It is pretty shocking like tinto said, but for the most part colombians are only afraid of themselves, they are a very good people, who are afraid of there own shadow, because of the FARC, and criminals. Realy it is because Cocain is produced here, and because of that, per capita that are more criminals here, but as long as you don't get involved with those type of people, and don't go tramping around in the jungle you will be just fine.

I have been to the seedest parts of Medellin, Bogota, and cartagena, I am not sure why, I am just very curious when I travel, well anyway, there is no way that any seedy place I have been in this country even compares to bad parts of oakland, let alone D.C. or East L.A.

Social/economical problem Yes cowboy, you said what I wanted to add to my comments earlier, but you put it much more eliquent than I would have at the time, and you stated very clearly what the social/monetary problem is in colombia.

and to teppar please be careful with the colombian man, he might be a great man, even one of my good friends, but as far as "he" is concerned with women, well that is another story. I am careful with American women, well truth is I will not date them, period, I married one, maybe one of the best, and well I am single now. I know that most of us amercans are fat and out of shape ( I am not fat just so you know:) ).

But don't worry come to colombia and have a great time. If you do not know colombia than you will be in for a suprise. I love this country. I have been coming here for 24 years and lived here twice, and there is no other country I would like to be in, as far as the New World is concernd.

observer comments on Road cycling/training in and in the hills above Medellin

cycling in Colombia I have cycled all over Colombia, and to be very honest it is always better outside of the cities, 5 am to about 7 am are the best hours. I have some friends who know cyclists in medellin I will talk to them and see if I can hook you up with some people. As far as bringing your bike absolutly, not a problem, and as far as colombia is concern, man they are cycling crazy, they love the sport. So no problem in hooking up with riders espcially in medellin.

I prefer to be outside of the cities, I can not tell you where a good place is in medellin, I live in Bogota, but I cycled there for a few days when I made a bike trip from bogota to medellin, and I loved it. Everyone told me it was to dangerous, blah, blah, but to me I found no problem what so ever, and the roads/trafic are so much better outside of the cities. If you come to Bogota' give me a post and I will cycle with you, and you can meet people at my shop. oh and one other thing change you tires to Specialzed Armidillos before you come, than you will not need to worry about flats, because it is very hard to find a good tire here in colombia
this is a short post, and will check back later to see if you have anyother questions. one thing is for sure bring the bike and hit the climb our other friend was talking about, its a nice little climb.

just a kind of sarcastic comment on the situation well first of all I am very sorry to hear that your Colombian boyfriend is cheating on you. I have lived here for over a year, and Have known Colombia for a good 20 years, but sadly to say this is the norm. Colombian men are cheaters, out of all of the Colombian men I know. I only know one true Colombian man, true to his woman that is, and she is on his case all of the time because he is in a lower estrato. Man he needs to get out of there. Well after all has been said, I do need to say that I have a new appreciation for American men in that since. American men well their god damn knights in shining armor in comparison. another point to this that I would like to make is that, on many of these posts I read that Colombian woman love gringos because of the money and the fact that they are foreigner. But the fact is that for the most part Americans are so much more true to their women, and to be honest they are not bi(*&. they do not come home and throw their bag on the floor and expect the maid to pick it up they are not babied little cheaters. I know I sound like an angry woman, but the fact is that I am a divorced man, who has never cheated on a woman. And I know several American men who have never cheated. I mean come on my driver who is only 19 years old and has one girlfriend, and more amigovias, than women I have even kissed, and damn, not to be arrogant, but just about every woman I have ever met says I am gorgeous, and I have over 10 years on the kid.

I know I have offended many people with this statement, and I apologize for that. I know there must be more Colombian men out there who are true, and probably good women in America, but in my experience that is rare, and you need to admit my reply is pretty funny in a sarcastic way.
