nuevoamigo comments on Medellin ColombianSweethearts for Sale

Save your cash and just do what many of the gringos living mde do on the regular. Find a young attractive translator and head to the less affluent part of town. Park at the local social hangout while she reels em in faster than you can log their digits....... Because she tells em your a rich American gringo JAJAJA.

nuevoamigo comments on Colombia and Racism

Obviously many of here both black and white have had different experiences in Colombia. I can tell you from my experience as a black male, blatant discrimination does not happen on a consistent basis in Medellin clubs. I met white males (December 2008) that had been denied entry to clubs I was admitted to (OZ). I was never denied entry anywhere, (Of course my good looks didn't hurt ; )) For some to say "that's how it is in Colombia", are sadly misguided. You only usually hear about the ill fated attempts, but rarely the successes. Am I the only success story? I cannot paint Colombia with a wide racist brush just as I cannot do the same for the states. And to those who think half black is "different" than black wake up. The only pure "blacks" are Africans (without mixed heritage). The vast majority of American blacks are "mixed". It's sad when whites feel compelled to identify with the "whiteness" of a black man. If you feel so inclined, hug the black man next to you in line, cause he is probably "mixed" and shares DNA with you.

nuevoamigo comments on Colombia and Racism

I would never say there is no racism in Colombia just as I would never say there is no racism in the states. The main difference is the denial of many Colombians that racism exists, thus no problem. Although racism exists in the states, the USA has a black president that was chosen over a white man so the extent of racism obviously is not very extreme (he received 40% of the vote from whites). I am sure there are places minorities might be denied entry because of there skin color in the states. I highly doubt these places would be in major cities or very common as these places could be easily sued for lots of money. That said, after reading many comments on this forum I was expecting to visit a overtly racist city (Medellin). I was surprised to find just the opposite. People were kind and I was never denied entry anywhere from OZ to Mangos, (although mentally I was prepared for it). Obviously money is the difference because if skin color was the issue, I would have never been let in. From my personal experience I believe racism in Medellin is predominately economic and probably based in racist assumptions regarding skin color. When people realize that you do not fit the stereotype they drop the BS and play nice IMHO.

nuevoamigo comments on reeling in the gringo sucker fish...

I remember seeing this young hottie (early twenties) pulling this old guy out of the cab at the Tesoro Mall. The age gap must of been 50 years, poor dude could hardly walk. She tried to walk ahead, like they were not together. Even the locals were pointing and laughing. Later I saw gramps parked at the food court alone. Apparently the hottie parked him there while she went on a shopping spree, no doubt with his wallet in hand....

nuevoamigo comments on In Colombia: (de Mongo, en Armenia): There's no lack of beautiful women, that's for sure.

I guess most were in hiding when I was visiting.... I can agree on the sweetness and kindness and approachability but the beauty is lacking compared to many places in the world, especially Eastern Europe and most major US cities IMHO. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;)

nuevoamigo comments on Impressions of Medellin

For gym nuts I recommend Body Tech in Vizcaya mall (actually seems to be the only functioning business there aside from the movie theater). Great equipment and friendly staff along with a few friendly expats. I must say the most amazing physically fit females bodies I've ever seen (not that I was looking).

nuevoamigo comments on Impressions of Medellin

I love the crispetas at the movies, here in the states we call it "Kettle Corn". A pleasant surprise at Olviedo, and way better than plain old popcorn...Don't forget the reserved seating for the movies (which you can select at the window). The movie crowd appeared well to do....guess going to the movies is a luxury to the average Colombian......

Thanks to all for your input. It will be very helpful in the near future.

nuevoamigo comments on We foreigners are not God's Gift to locals in Third World Countries

The OP has simply described typical "insecure male" behavior in a social environment.....No need to travel to Colombia to see it..... happens here (USA) everyday. By the way, by paying attention to these individuals "you" have achieved their goal of "feeling" important...Shame on you....

nuevoamigo comments on The beautiful Colombiana....An exaggeration of reality?

Tabla...Like your informal "scientific research". Confirms what I've seen online, (but not reality as presented here on PBH).

nuevoamigo comments on The beautiful Colombiana....An exaggeration of reality?

Yummy any day you want to hit the rumba scene and see who gets the prize I'm game...Guys in Russia need no game...Poor chicks are desperate for a dude...How many USA gals you see running to Russia?

nuevoamigo comments on The beautiful Colombiana....An exaggeration of reality?

This may be true, but here in the states hotties are always trying extend their access and market share although everything is handed to them. I know some very hot girls here in LA with too many guys to choose from. Still they advertise like they were single with few options.....

Your refreshing and insightful commentary will be greatly missed.....Might as well close down this place now......

nuevoamigo comments on Question about social / economic class in Colombia (Medellin)

Johnny I appreciate your sound advice (based on experience). I'd hate to pass on a good one for superficial reasons. Down to earth is rare in Los Angeles....And greatly appreciated when found.

nuevoamigo comments on Question about social / economic class in Colombia (Medellin)

Johnny thats sound advice.....Unfortunately, from our conversations seems all she likes to do is work (make bom boms?)....That would great if I was looking for a second income instead of a potential relationship. In all honesty she may not be a good fit for me....Does not dance or seem to like to do anything fun entertainment wise.....I may have to re-think this.....

nuevoamigo comments on Question about social / economic class in Colombia (Medellin)

I admire all who dare to go out in a new country where you cannot speak the language well and do not know your way around (or anyone there) which has a reputation (real or imagined) by yourself to areas that are not publicized as safe for tourists.....It's just not me, on my first trip to a new place. Gimme the touristy sh_t all day...Say what, just like LA or Miami with hot Colombianas? Sounds like heaven to me ;)

Utopia, at least Billyb has a clue about how things work in life....You need to get one :)

nuevoamigo comments on Question about social / economic class in Colombia (Medellin)

Thanks for the advice....I will definitely consider it. I will weigh my options once there, as I could only guess what my impression of Poblado (Parque Lleras) might be at this point.

nuevoamigo comments on Question about social / economic class in Colombia (Medellin)

August, guess it's the "fear factor". Crazy huh, Americans fly thousands of miles to a foreign country, just to be around more Americans.....Since it's my first trip I probably will not stray too far.....Unless I have a really sexy guide ;)

nuevoamigo comments on Question about social / economic class in Colombia (Medellin)

Actually Ken you can blame it on "word of mouth". Most people mention this place , most lodging refers to their proximity to this place and most websites refer to this place as well. As far as the girlfriend is concerned, it may be good and bad....Good, she's possibly a down to earth nice girl....Bad she may feel like a fish out of water.....

nuevoamigo comments on Question about social / economic class in Colombia (Medellin)

August, ...I think you understand my question...... As far as Parque Lleras, Hear it's a place to go, and since I love to rumba....It's a must for me ( and LA does not have Colombianas), but thanks for your input.....

nuevoamigo comments on Question about social / economic class in Colombia (Medellin)

August you must be kidding right? The poor and social caste systems are two totally different things. In Brazil for example poor people party in Rio (Copacabana, Ipanema) athough they have little cash. To not go to a central "social area" thirty minutes from your casa, seems a little stange. Even if just to walk around and people watch (which costs nothing).

No problem, already have a permanent tattoo of Ben Franklin on my noggin....C'mon I'm from LA... I know the routine ;)
