Nora comments on libros favoritos

Julio Cortazar!

Nora comments on Nice Bogota Apartment for 800,000pesos a month ????

No traffic, but phones ringing and music yes, so I guess I´m just lucky they don´t have babies:-) Come to think of it I never hear their voices, so maybe they just have really loud phones…?
I kinda like hearing that there are other people alive in the world so I don´t mind.

If you want really quiet I just got to thinking about Usaquén, to me it seems almost like a nice little village inside Bogota (norte and mountainside, by mall Santa Barbara). I´ve no idea about prices, communications and availabilities there though, but maybe somebody else knows?

Nora comments on "The In" places to live in Bogota ?????

crazy killer vampires... Jeje –not really afraid of my neighbors being carnivores or anything, just a bit intrigued by the mystery of how they all got their wealth…

Noise Mr. H is right. Even in Rosales with well constructed houses and little traffic noise there’s always construction noise somewhere around –and no noise through the walls /roof??? I can hear the phones ringing in at least 2 other apartments…

Nora comments on More good news!! Colombia is NO longer world's kidnapping capital!

Paseos millonarios We have those kinds of kidnappings in Bogotá as well. Happened to a colleague of mine who took a taxi off the street the other day. They emptied her card and thought they wewe wery gentlemanly for leaving her 20 000 pesos to get home for. I´ve no idea whether the paseos enter the kidnapping statistics though…

Even more good news http://www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=3100

According to these guys there are actually 13 countries in the world more likely to fall apart than Colombia, e.g. Iraq, Congo and Afghanistan, so I guess that makes us even safer…

Mr. H That’s what I figured. It’s the ones “who made a killing that worry me a bit, could that be read literally..?

-Who the f... are my neighbours?
Greg, I’ve been thinking exactly the same as you. My rent is paid by an international company so that’s another thing, but my apt. is the smallest one in my condo and who the hell are those other people living there when it costs about the same as an average lawyers salary..???

Lucia: Smart and funny... I´ve found a couple of gals that really fit the category and by coincidence they turned out to be my neighbors! Another good thing to be said for Rosales:)

Sorry Greg I live in Rosales which is one of the Mountain Side Norte places you´re looking for and I pay 1.7 for a one-bedroom furnished flat (quiet and with big terrace). A lot of us expats in the area driving up prices I'm afraid. I´d go for Alto Chapinero or Andino zone too. Agree with Lucia on the architecture, I looked at some really charming apts in the area more or less between cl.75-82 cra 9-11, but it seemed difficult getting something furnished there.

Nora comments on Use of Land Mines Spreading in Colombia by Henry Chu

Thank you Platano These are very, very sad news, and I was not aware that the mine problem was so grave in Colombia. I'm going to there to work with humanitarian questions and am trying to read up on these issues, but information is widespread and it's difficult to get an overview. I really appreciate you gathering so much news here. If you want to share any tips on other sites I should look at I'd be grateful. Cheers.

Nora comments on Colombian Women please help, Culture barrier!

Perfect marriage I was an exchange student in Costa Rica in my youth, and had the unpleasant but interesting experience of living with a host family going through a divorce. The marriage had been more or less of the kind M describes as his ideal, and my host mother got enough, went to night school, found a job and left. I remember sitting in the kitchen with my host sister during one of their arguments. The wife locks herself in the bathroom and the husband, still in a fury enters the kitchen and grabs a can of condensed milk out of the fridge. Then he turns around with a disoriented face and opens a couple of closets befor turning to ask my sister to get him an opener, not realizing that he’s standing 1 step away from the drawer where it’s kept. Poor guy being so helpless in his own house… After she left I heard he moved in to a one-room apartment with only a fridge, a bed and a TV. What a life!

Nora comments on my wife is increasingly aggressive and is hard to live with

Wild guess I know this might be an insult depending on your religious view and is probalbly a long shot, but she didn't by any chanse start using the pill after giving birth? I'm a stable pragamatic type, but what little mood swings I had went wild with the first brand I tried...

Nora comments on Smart and funny women in Colombia

Family life OK. The week life is pretty much how I'm used to living (except for the appallingly early morning hours!), the weekends seem to be the difference -looks like I'll have to start a family on arrival:)

Nora comments on Colombian women wear the pants?

Delicious:) Too bad he couldn't sing to save his life....

Nora comments on Colombian women wear the pants?

Who cares? Who cares about wearing pants at home when you can wear a miniskirt outside and rule the world?

-Scandinavia, where the women are strong, the men are beautiful and all the children are above average!

Nora comments on Smart and funny women in Colombia

Tack:) I guess this post is dead now, being so far down on the list (wow you gus are active!), but thanks to everyone. You never really came with any answers to my question (except for Carter and Claudia –double thanks), but knowing some of you guys are there, I'm not too worried about meeting fun people.
Elmond: I’m pretty sure I know what you were thinking…Scandinavian women are probably about the most stereotyped in the world, but I’m neither blond nor swimming naked in lakes right now.
Albatross: I’ve worked in top politics the last three years, and most of my girls work as journalists, economists or mangers. Whenever you wanna come up here and discuss fiscal policy or oil price development with us you’re truly welcome, provided you have something sensible to say.
Colombiche: I agree that there are a lot of cultural differences in humour, but you’ve made me laugh a lot on different occasions so there are some universal parts as well:)

Nora comments on Smart and funny women in Colombia

Exactly, so where do I go…? CE: hope I haven't said anything that gives a general impression that I'm looking for athletic girls, remember I'm not here to date:)

Nora comments on Smart and funny women in Colombia

Oh please, don’t you all start confirming the old prejudice about hot but self centred boring latinas now. I met some badass funny faces in Costa Rica and I’m sure they’re around in Colombia as well. –Bufalo: sure you weren’t just focusing too much on the “hot part to realize she was actually a killer joke teller (or stealing your wallet)?
