Don't be affraid to talk go out to a mall even if you dont want to buy anything and start asking questions, talk to yourself in spanish in the mirror in shower, buy dvd with subtitles and study phases from them (people talk more in slang in movies so you will learn things that they are not teaching you) also study on your own for 1-2 hours a day.. But more importantly in my opion is to talk and talk and talk some more....

njtea5 comments on (family is Colombian) i am 28 grew up in New York, lived in Chicago, San Francisco, Cali and now live in Medellin for 4 months. I have been mugged 3 times in my live 2 in New York and one in Chicago. When i first arrived to Medellin i was Shot at a bunch of times in Oviedo after a movie... I think i have seen alot of shit in my life i saw my best friend stabbed after some black kids stole his bike and i saw a man jump off the golden gate bridge right in front of me.. But nothing compares to the stories that my friend (45yr) here (in Medellin) has!!! Some horrifying things.. He as seen it all from bombings, to rapes, to mugging, to shootings, to stabbing, he has been shot at for no reason and he has gotten the shit kicked out of him, people learn here how to forget it is the Colombian way tomorrow you forget and today you live and you dont think of tomorrow... Hence the fact that only 20 percent of the people here are over poverty level but there is more malls here then freaking San francisco, people will buy stuff and not worry about tomorrow...And those are words from a Colombian!!!

njtea5 comments on Driving from Medellin to Cali... its about an 8 hour drive I did 2 months ago with my friend i dont know the route but its safe as far as i know but suggest just for safety precautions leave in the moring so you are driving all though the day, that should take away most any of the dangers that might happen..

njtea5 comments on Paisas in Movie theatres Listen i have been to the movies here in Medellin alot as well it doesnt happen everytime so i want to apologize if i made it sound that way thee truth is even my friends here say that on the week ends that alot of kids go to the movies that could have been it. But in Cali i never had a promblem on a weekend or weekday or when ever it was frustrating get ignored that was it when i asked nicely i was ignored when i got pissed i was ignored finally i had to move seats to the front where no one was..

njtea5 comments on Homeless in Colombia vs. Homeless in the US strobers I didn't say that every homeless person in the Us doesn't have a story, I was simply stating they have more chances to get it together and they still seem to being on the streets begging for money... I know their are crazy homeless out there but for these people have the abilitly to sit on the street and form a sentence to ask me for a cig or some change.. And as far as vets I look around here in San Francisco where i am currently staying and these guys are my age 25 so vet my ass I am sure that there are homeless vets out there but I know alot of vets that are living a great life (not an excuse).. I used to offer homeless people here things all the time then I just stopped... I have a homeless man a pair of shoes because I saw his shoes had some serious holes in them the next day see the same dude with the same ripped shoes and he was trying to sell the shoes I gave him... Dongringo you are not alone I agreed with everything you said in your post...
