newtron comments on Properties near the coast, which coast? I am in the retirement planning mode, too. I have also investigated parts of Panama and like everything the government is doing there to attract North Americans..it is a nice country. But, once I visited Medellin, I cannot imagine a better place to live. I am less than 2 years away from retiring so, perhaps I have been looking longer. One thing I want to share that many people do not consider. Within the past 3 years, I buried both my parents...we are from Kentucky. During the hot summer (90 degrees and 90 humidity), they were unable to go outside except during the early morning and late afternoon/early evening hours. During the winter...they were simply prisoners in their own home. I watched them suffer too much to allow myself to become subject to the same torture. The eternal spring of Medellin is (I think) just what the doctor ordered. I am looking just north of Medellin around Girardota and to the east near Lake Guatape. It is an absolutely gorgeous countryside and the people are fanstastic. I am sure there are dangers of which I am currently unaware...but I hope that we can all share info and not all fall into the same trap. Good luck to everyone who has lived, worked and played enough to look forward to retirement. Larry

newtron comments on Introducing The Lion's Den American Sports Bar of Parque Lleras, Medellin Brian, What are your hours? I'll be back in Medellin the weekend of August 15. I would like to stop by and meet any Americanos living there that happen to be sober or nearly so who can offer any advice about moving to or living in Medellin. I would prefer good advice, but right now, I'll take anything....I'll sort it out later. At 1,000 pesos per...I might buy the house a round. (I said MIGHT!) C Ya

newtron comments on I've been an Admiral's Club'er for a while and never had a problem...but, I've never been to Bogota either. I think all the clubs are located between security and the departure gates and pretty much says so on their web site. It sounds like you were not permitted access to the area of the club by airport officials...immigration or whomever...which is not the fault of AA. If AA denied you access to the club at the club door, I would like to know about that...and something would definitely be done if it happened to me. Sounds like an unfortunate misunderstanding to me....sorry.

newtron comments on Luxury Apartment in Poblado 3 Bedroom for sale or rent Tejas....hahahaha.....if all the people I know pooled their money, we would not be able to buy a 6BR house on 3 hectares in Poblado. Since Robi was making a point of percentages, I was trying to determine if the percentages changed by location...especially as you get out of the city. I liked the finca above Girardota, but I'm still looking around Guatape, too. It would be nice to have a little elbow room, but that is out of the question in Poblado...at least on my retirement income. C Ya, Larry

newtron comments on Luxury Apartment in Poblado 3 Bedroom for sale or rent I am trying to learn about real estate in Medellin...or the area, so I find this thread very interesting. I was in Medellin this past weekend and looked at a finca north of the city that I liked very much. 6BR house with pool on 3 hectares and a million dollar view of the valley north of the city....$400,000,000 asking price. It is currently being used as a party rental....$150usd/day. Appears to be a similar percentage return as those listed above...IF you can keep it rented. Also, I am sure it can be bought for less than asking. (anyone can tell I'm a gringo from 100 yards away, so it was a gringo asking price.) So, the question is...what is the curve for real estate prices as you get farther from the city...or is there one? I can't imagine rural property commanding the same prices as Poblado. Thanks, Larry

newtron comments on PeƱol / Guatape Thanks everyone. Looks like I'll try to take some fishing gear on my next trip. I was there on a Sunday and the place was overrun by turistas...like me. I don't know that I've ever seen a prettier lake....and I've seen some lakes. Now, if I can only learn to speak Spanish....Aqui, pezzy, pezzy?
