nbenjamin comments on Cheap but nice Cali furnished Apartment with internet and A/C

Big Texas - Agreed. Medellin and Cali are fairly similar in prices - except I find I spend more money when I stay in Cali than in Medellin. But a little more not like Bogota or something.

nbenjamin comments on Cheap but nice Cali furnished Apartment with internet and A/C

Are you joking? Does the name A Brode ring a bell? the name is Arthur Brode and his website is something like calirentals.net - A B is a poorbut happy legend and can set you up A to Z in Cali. Whatever you need in Cali Broders got it.

nbenjamin comments on Betancourt, European Diplomacy and the FARC

Provocative article - and not a single comment.

nbenjamin comments on NarcoTourims

Tourists - Doing drugs and sleeping with Hookers???? Never happens, does it? This is a problem that exists everywhere. When your young dumb and have a little money you do all kinds of crazy sh*t outside of your country. The sh%t me and my friends did when travelling through Europe was outrageous and often involved sh&t like this. I met some brazillians the other day travelling through the U.S. and they had just come to Los Angeles from Vegas - their stories sounded pretty outrageous - guess what - they involved drugs and hookers. Move along nothing exciting here

nbenjamin comments on What is one year's expenses to live in Colombia?

Papi - I am a huge Brode fan.

nbenjamin comments on What is one year's expenses to live in Colombia?

After further review - Medellin may be more appropriate for Colombia at the beginner levels. But, if starting a business is your interest, although much more expensive you should take Bogota (probably the worst Colombian city) into account. It unquestionably has the most thriving economy.

nbenjamin comments on What is one year's expenses to live in Colombia?

Broder!!!!!!!!!! Where you been my man. Art Brode - rumors were going that you were up there at tres cruces, pimpin, slangin, dealin, and otherwise keepin it street. Try and check in more often. As for 10k-15k. You could do it. It would suck. I would target 20k plus - for comfortable living. Also I would throw out Cali as the place to live - and when there look up the man Art Brode - he will put you up cheap while you are looking for a place to stace. Cali has the Best weather, partying, women in Colombia - a little seedier - but nothing my man AB could not explain for cheap.

nbenjamin comments on Will NEVER step foot into Mangos in Medellin again nor recommend it to my customers.

Miamimike - MangosMiami - looks alright to me - lots of hot chicks, liquor and music. What more do you want. "Colombians are Pussies. Anyone can pull a trigger. Line up a group of 10 Americans (any age) against 10 Colombia (same age) No match" TS - You are a Monkey

nbenjamin comments on Colombia an Emerging Economy???

I just had to post noticing that toby again, makes a complete a.... of himself. "In case you have noticed, teh Colombian economy is doing rather well, outpacing virtually every nation on the planet as it hovers in the 6 to 7%, again this year." No, no, no although it is tempting I am not going to point out that I have seen 7 year olds type with more clarity - I am here to poiny out how wrong he is: Although Colombia is fast growing economy, it is not "outpacing" (sic) nearly every country on earth - Here are four countries IN LATIN AMERICA ALONE that outpaced Colombia: Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Uruguay - Here is a list of the entire world: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(real)_growth_rate You may notice something funny - Colombia is not "outpacing" nearly every country on earth. It is not even in the top 10. Hey TOBESTER - try talking out of your mouth rather than you ASS. Thanks. Gimmebud - solid article. Although I should make clear I am routing for colombia - just love pointing out how much of a monkey Tobester is.

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

four different computer - doode computers cost like 500 to 2000 dollars - come on bro - you are not even good at pretending you have money. You dont doode do you? You dont even own in Denver do you? One things for sure a house in rio is more than one in Denver.

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

Registered in "four countries" - you do need an international lawyer.

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

Only registered in the US - hey doode - in the U.S. Corporations are registered in a States - not country. What State? My corporation is registered in the United States - right - by the way it cost 75 dollars to register a corporation - big deal. And as a matter of international atorneys what are they doing for you - why is your corp registered in four different countries? That makes no sense. More evidence of your lies - doode now admits that he lives in Denver not New York - second lie exposed. "dont talk about how much money you make" - come on doode just make up some ridiculous number - keep going with it - we all know you are lying. Here I will play along I am a ceo of an internation corporation - only registered in 8 countries.

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

Tom Tom - you hit the nail on the head. really it is a bad comparison.

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

But finally, and most importantly, you continue to demonstrate that you lack knowledge regarding Colombia - everyone knows that it is more dangerous than the US. Sorry - just read how many people agreed with me - and how many people just dont agree with you. Keep lying mister international corporation. But what I found most troubling is this "another american patriot." Again i will point out - I have family in Colombia (I dont have to lie and say I lived there), I am purchasing a Finca in Rio (Do you know what Rio is, No Tobe's it is not in Brazil), I love my Country and My family there to death. Again, colombia is very close to my soul.

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

Of course you wont address my arguments - it is not because you do not understand them - it is because I am right. Admit when you are wrong. Look, I again, am not saying the US is perfect - far from it - but you are comparing crime in the US to crime in Colombia - and you are wrong - sorry. Second - your international corporation - BS. We all know it - you do not own an international corporation. I am an attorney, but only in my first year. How do I know you do not have an "international corporation?" First - a busy person who makes a lot of money gets paid for his time and therefore they would understand why it is not worth a lot of time to write something pretty and "eloquent." You do not seem to understand that. Finally, you never lived in Colombia, you are full of it. You did not know what Tres Cruces was you did not know whether north or south of Medellin was dangerous you knew nothing, whether I said Las Vegas you never knew it was a neigborhood in Medellin - you lived there - give me a break. "international corporation" "lived in Colombia" speech at the giving a speech at the "NYSEC" come on - why do you lie. You know why I feel good - because I actually am an attorney, practicing in his first year, making a solid six figure salary - you know why you feel stupid - because you just lied - not just once but a million times - You are the classic guy, lives in denver, spent a couple months in New York - and tell people you are from New York because Denver is not cool. You know how I know you are not from New York? Because you live in Denver - noone from New York would live in Denver. But finally, and most importantly, you continue to demonstrate

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

My final comment for the TOBSTER - just be honest - how many times have you been to Colombia - tell the truth - you went like once, maybe twice, never to Medallo or Cali only to Cartagena maybe a layover in Bogota - come on be honest - did you guts up on a bus - Yeah you dont know anything about Colombia. Do you know what Tres Cruces is? Before you go to the internet where is it? Is the North or the South of Medellin Dangerous? How bout Bogota? ah ah TOBSTER - dont look at the internet do you know? YOu dont do you tobes - Classic.

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

"I have seen more crime in the US that any Colombian can possibly imagine." You do realize, right, that Colombia has led the world in Homicide rates for something like 6 or 7 of the last 10 years. But you have definitely witnessed more Crime than any Colombian ever has? How many times have you been to Colombia, have you picked up a book and read about the country - any Colombian would tell you that is ridiculous. I mean really ridiculous. In that very statement you demonstrated to the entire poorbuthappy family you utter brilliance - it is called a book - read one.

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

Toby - Sorry about the typo - I was at work and typing fast - here are some mistakes in your post - "Higer" is not how you spell Higher, "Beleive" is not how you spell "Believe" "somehrwe" is not how you spell "somewhere" - My point is that if you are going to smack off about typos on a blog then at least take the time "road" scholar to type it write. I am an attorney in my first year of practice - I get paid 200,000k a year to use my brain - I am smarter than you - believe it. I will, however, make typos in this post - and I will apologize since you are so brilliant. As for your comments - I love colombia, I have family there - very close family - the country is very close to my soul - You are just out to lunch. That is all, you were making a comparison between Colombia and the USA based on factors - such as Safety, Health Care, Human Rights, Financails etc. And that is a ridiculous comparison - one in which - even the most Anti-American person will admit is a ridiculous comparison. Admit it, you are wrong. Does colombia live up to its poor reputation in the world, no. But is it the United States of America? Get with it, no it is not, in respect to these factors and only these factors. In fact the biggest complaint in the world regarding the US is not how the country treats its own - but how it treats others. Listen, I love Colombia, I am finalizing a purchase of a Finca in Rio Negro at this very moment. But you should be realistic that is all. No more no less. No need to resort to ad hominem attacks and to suggest I should "stay in LA." Your statements seem to reflect a lack of knowledge regarding Colombia that is all. Are you going to argue that New York is more dangerous than Cali, really? Really - Here are some website s to take a look at regarding homicide rates: http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_percap-crime-murders-per-capita http://www.benbest.com/lifeext/murder.html#world http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_homicide_rate (Note that Colombia is missing through the 70, 80s and 90s because there were not accurate statistics) Notice something funny Toby BOY? Yes COLOMBIA HAS A DRAMATICALLY HIGHER HOMICIDE RATE THAN THE USA. In fact, Colombia often has led the world in Homicide over the last ten years. But rather than argue this point you state - well the USA is not safe it has the highest amount of people in Prison. There are two inherent flaws with your argument (among one thousand others) (1) People in Prison does not suggest that a place is dangerous; (2) I am not stating the US is perfect - by no means. I am bleeding heart liberal like yourself. What I am suggesting is it is better as far as the subjects that I am naming - Safety, Health Care, Human Rights, Financials etc - than Colombia You are a joke.

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

Hey Tobe have you heard of "Plan America" where the colombian government is giving the US millions in Aid? Oh wait, isnt that the reverse? Hey Tobe did you know that 20% of the Colombia is still controlled by Gorillas? Really comparable to the US. Again I love colombia but we should all be realistic when we are there. I plan to retire there, but come on.... Comparing it to the US as far as standards of living for people of walks of life - ridiculous...

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

Tobe - If you are trying to make a comparison between the USA and Colombia based on disparity you are out to lunch. Anyone knows that and any scholar or any janitor will tell you that. Period. It is ridiculous comparison that demonstrates a lack of reason, logic and any basis. A million examples can be given but here are a few: Percentage of population with access to safe water: USA 100% Colombia 10 percent of the population do not have it. Average income: Colombia 3,000 ish USA 40,000 ish But like you said lets not talk numbers lets just walk around and see what story it tells. I live in Los Angeles. I have walked through the worst ghettos here such as Compton, Watts, South Central, Long Beach etc. I grew up here my whole life and I have seen some outrageous stuff. Every Ghetto here has hot watter, decent apartments and/or houses, electricity, even many cars (beat up and old, but cars), house have heaters, police that show (may come late but they show up) and real roofs that keep rain out of the house. A walk through a rough neighborhoods in Medellin, Bogota, Cali etc. will tell you that there is no comparison. There is no hot water, police, houses are brick and mortar at best and provide little protection from the element, no cars, no cell phones, no computers, no electricity nothing. A girlfriend of mine down there told me how her Dad beat her mom and they would call the police and the police would do nothing, she had no hot water until 5 years ago. Walk around look at the cars - I mean the cars in the richest part of bogota are Middle class cars in the US. People with a car in Colombia are doing decent. If you cannot aford a car in the US as an adult you are poor. Be realistic, I love Colombia more than anything, but to compare it to the USA is a joke. And seems to suggest you have never been there. Or you went with fantasy land glasses. I was walking through not the worst neigborhood in Bogota but a sketchy one, and I watched as a punk (mohawk etc.) just beat the sh*t out of his punk girlfriend. Nobody said or did anything. And it was normal. A girlfriend of mine said that is just how it is looked away and told me not to look. Never seen anything like that here. I have a thousand more examples - but that is just one. Everybody here would walk through Compton in the day time, guranteed. Noone would walk through tres cruces, or the likes in Bogota or Medellin. I mean think about medellin, that neighborhood over by the Bus station in the north - its like a shanty town - super dangerous with high rates of crime - according to my piasa police don't even go in at night - can you even imagine that. But lets compare Colombia to the USA - to the access wealth and abundance of the USA. Brilliant toby. You are a real road scholar.

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

I am 29, good looking, 100 percent Californian, I am just making the point, that in most places I go, I become much better looking. In fact, in every country I go to, I am better looking then I am in California (doodes (and women) in Ca. are too good looking). But there are two places out of the 40 plus countries I have visited where my stock as far as looks goes did not go up Iceland and Argentina. Not to say it went down, it just did not go up.

nbenjamin comments on what makes Colombia a third world country?

Jack Jason - You definitely still can bribe the police in Colombia. I go every two months and I have seen it. At least I saw it in Medellin and a good friend of mine in Cali said he did it when he was caught driving under the influence. As far as Bogota, dont know. But be realistic, you still can bribe police with much more freedom in Colombia. Morphus - Iceland is ridiculous - problem is - doodes there are to really good looking - cant get away with being some fat old doode with a 23 year old.

nbenjamin comments on should I buy CO Pesos here in America before the dollar goes back down???

JC-USN - Great point. I am pretty sure but do not quote me, you can send the Moneygram money to Colombia and if the exchange rate gets even better, then you can get the money back for free. I am almost positive, but you need to double check this. As for predicting the money market, I have no clue. It is particularly hard to predict the Colombian Peso because it is a so called "soft" currency - one that is not traded extensively. What I stated was a guess - The reason the Dollar is going up (and it has jumped quick (from aprox. 1650-1920 in less than a week) is a change in Colombian policy based on the weakening dollar. A policy that is not going to be evaluated again until August 8 (I think). A guess - but again a wild one - is Colombia will continue to insist on a policy that leaves the dollar strong against its Peso for the sake of export. But this is just a wild prediction - and I am not the best person to listen to. A great way to beat this would be to send yourself the money now and just wait and see. I am almost positive that you can just get your money back if it is never picked up. Great way to beat a system that generally beats us. I am going to try that.

nbenjamin comments on should I buy CO Pesos here in America before the dollar goes back down???

I would not make the exchange now. The reason the currency is returning to 2000 (ish) is because the Colombian government usually attempts to control the currency to make sure it does not deflate to much. They stopped this because of how strong the Peso has become. There is no plans to initiate the process again until August 8. At that time you will be there, and should be able to beat any big bounce assuming the Colombian government intervenes. And that is a big assumption the increasing power of the peso apparently has negatively impacted Colombian exports.

nbenjamin comments on Taking a taxi in Medellin

I go to Medellin once every 3 months. I have never had a problem with a random taxi driver and never heard that was an issue in Medellin. It is 50 mil (or about $ 28.00 u.s.) to go from Rio to town, and less on the return.

nbenjamin comments on What happened to Art Brode.

Brode? My man Art Brode. Art Brode keeps it pretty street in Cali. I wouldn't be nervous about that guy, not for a moment. My man Brode, went to Tres Cruces on Saturday night, in a pair of boxers and some sandals, doode came out of the barrio with a kilo, a new car, and a three piece suit. The man brode is a legend. Drop doode off in the middle of the jungle, and the FARC would not get my man, my man would get the farc. Broder keeps it street, but he is no sucker, whereever he is, there is a lot of money, a lot of beautiful women and a decent climate.

nbenjamin comments on Will the Fed really raise interest? (Causing the Dollar to be stronger against the COP)

Right now, the interest rate must be raised due to inflation fears.

nbenjamin comments on Intal Driver License Colombia-USA

As a matter of course. A colombian drivers license will generally be accepted in any part of the country - but just call your local DMV.

nbenjamin comments on Colombian Couples giving birth in the USA

Its the Constitution. More power to them - Born in the US a US citizen. I am more than happy if they can get in then that kid is a US citizen.

nbenjamin comments on

Two Points: 1 Beantown - Go lakers. WHat an exciting time for LA and Boston. Point 2: Rocinante - This guy hit it on the head. I live on the west side of LA and there are way fatter chicks and doodes in Colombia than in West Los Angeles. THere are plenty of "big" women and fat doodes in Colombia. Now the rest of los estados I dont really know except for South Beach is off the hook but anyway better weather more pressure on looking good and also more motivation to get out of the house.

nbenjamin comments on Lakers in Medellin -

I will be there, thanks - Spig

nbenjamin comments on Dollar hits 2-month high vs. euro

"Europe has a strong currency so exports are not declining?" Actually exports are declining for european nations - and european leaders have continued to state their fears regarding the weakening dollar. I am not necessarily a "dollar long" guy. But that statement is plain and simple a joke. Are you aware that Europe has been pushing the United States to change their policy regarding the dollar. That european economist are in agreement regarding the weakening dollar. Here are some article regarding currency - http://www.ft.com/markets/currencies. That was a joke right - all of europes trading partners are the other european nations right and all of the united states trading partners are other states (this sentence is sarcastic). Europe leads the world in Alternative Energy? Where did you base that on? In fact, europe without question does not lead the world based on Alternative energy. When you state lead the world do you think of the world as the U.S. and Europe. And is it even clear that the Europe leads the U.S. in alternative energy solutions? I mean it is european car companies that have really been doing the most about reduction in the use of gas -err no that is toyota a japanese car company. Ummm Brazil ring a bell - the entire country does not use gas. But europe leads the world they invented the hybrid (they did not). That is an idiotic statement europe leads the world. Finaly the grandest most idiotic statement of them all: ""What I dont't understand is how a European slowdown will lead to a stonger dollar. A currency's strength has to do with supply and demand, not a slowdown of other economies."" What are you talking about. Actually people trade currency based on variety of factors. In fact - supply in demand is so vague - I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean purchasing power that is how much the currency is actually worth? Based on purchasing power the dollar is undervalued and the euro is overvalued (this is purchasing within their own country). Although this is one factor people trade on it is not the only factor. When you say supply and demand do you mean how many dollars are out there and how much people are willing to pay? If that is the case, then let me give it to you simple since "you dont understand." If the european economy goes in the toilet less people are going to want euros and more people will want to get rid of them. Thus, the supply of available euros will go up and the demand will go down and the price will be impacted, including against the dollar. So the economy has a lot to do with the currency exchange rates. As for example the weak us economy has led to a lowering of interest rates and a weaker dollar. "What does the economy have to do with currency." In that very statement you demonstrated to the board that you are an idiot. Sorry. That is just dumb. What does the economy have to do with currency rates. Right seriously, I mean so what people are losing their jobs - I mean how does the economy impact job losses - jobs are about supply and demand *(sarcastic). In fact the currency market is very complex and is pushed one way or another based on speculation and a variety of other factors. Finally thanks for the "advice" but based on your statements I will pass.

nbenjamin comments on Dollar hits 2-month high vs. euro

"conveniently silent regarding inflation" - Actually the numbers are out - inflation is still very very very low, much lower than predicted. I recommend the Financial Times an English based paper - it is a good way to keep up on the economy. As for hire oil prices, generally accepted that this has a bigger impact on europe than the U.S. The impact of gas on the average americans budget is far exaggerated. But again I do agree with you, I would like to see the dollar a little stronger. What imports aside from oil are impacted and making the average americans life more difficult? And when you say real wage decreases since 1970's? Based on what? Where did you get this number. It is an accepted fact that no matter how much people cry - Americans - have much more than they did just 40 years ago. I would be interested, however, in a study that suggest otherwise. Please forward along the reading for that argument. Thanks so much.

nbenjamin comments on Dollar hits 2-month high vs. euro

Also - it is not entirely clear that this thesis that the dollar weakening leads to hire oil prices. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/1232f96e-1c5d-11dd-8bfc-000077b07658.html Unquestionably this is the popular view, however, this week the dollar has seen gains along side of oil gains throwing mud in the face of this theory. although I tend to agree with you and invest in currency accordingly.

nbenjamin comments on Dollar hits 2-month high vs. euro

Miamimike - positives and negatives. Nothing more or less. The dollar impacting oil prices impacts the U.S. economy. But it is far harsher on the European economy.

nbenjamin comments on Dollar hits 2-month high vs. euro

A weak dollar is not necessarily a bad thing for the U.S. economy. Indeed, manufacturing in the United States has hit 10 year highs, much of this is attributed to a weak dollar. A weak dollar strengthens exports. In fact, Europe is now accusing the U.S. of having a policy that strives for a weak dollar. As for fundamentals, most experts agree the dollar is under valued while the Euro is over valued. Therefore, we will likely see somewhat of a recovery against the euro. You can really expect this recovery if Europe begins lowering interest rates and the U.S. begins to slowly raise interest rates. Something that is expected in the long run. This is not to say that a low dollar is all advantageous. Some attribute the weak dollar to hire oil prices. You can expect, however, that over the years the Colombian Peso and other currencies in "periphery" or "third-world" countries will continue to make gains against currencies such as the euro and the dollar. The reason is, because these countries are continuing to make enormous steps economically. But remember a weak dollar is not all bad - take note that China purposely sets their currency below the dollar - the real person who is impacted positively by a weak dollar is a traveller - and U.S. citizens spending money in other countries is not exactly something our government is that concerned with. Any how, U.S. citizens should start going to south america more and europe less.

nbenjamin comments on IN-N-OUT OR HAMBURGUESAS DEL CORRAL?

I love corral but in'n'out is a little different style. Nevertheless, as said by the beastie boys, I love white castle because its the best, but I chill at fat burger when I am way out west. Or as biggie says "if i want tosquirt her take her to fat burger. Fat burger for a fast food burger dominates.

nbenjamin comments on Hotel Torre de Cali

Wait wait wait - you need a spot in Cali? Everyone know when it comes to Cali - you go to Brode. My man brode has the best places, the safest neighborhoods and the best prices. I stayed at the brode motel. Always felt safe, price was right, and brode can even show you around for an extra couple bucks.

nbenjamin comments on Please advise

I am a lawyer. To provide real advice you have to clarify the prenup. What was the agreement. Also did you have a lawyer draft the prenup or did you do it on a website or something like that. That is important because a prenup may not be enforceable as drafted. Also what laws govern the prenup. New Jersey I imagine - but that is also an important question. Furthermore, when you say bought the apartment - did you buy the apartment flat out? THat is, is there a payment on the apartment or not? For example, if you bought the apartment before you got married, and you paid for the whole thing, depending on what laws govern - she would have no rights to it period. If you are making payments then she may or may not have rights to it. Provide answers to all of these questions and I will give you some advice. But get a lawyer. Second, why did you get married before you were 25. A rule of thumb, I am 29, I still am not married. Getting women just gets easier and easier as you get older have more money and more confidence. Good luck

nbenjamin comments on Need to send laptop to colombia

I used a bs value on a lap top I sent ($$ 200) and I still got hit with having to pay 100.00 in tax. The best way to send it is find someone on this site that you can trust who is making a trip down to Colombia shortly. Good Luck.

nbenjamin comments on Sending Flowers & gifts to Cali

Send my man Brode to deliver flowers to your wife? 100 percent money back guarantee - if A Brode is the flower delivery guy, the flower delivery guy is boinking your colombian girlfriend. It is not my man A brodes fault - but what do you want to do - he has got to do it.

nbenjamin comments on Successful Medellin Restaurante for Sale - very Cheap!

Duridioto - thanks for the clarification. 10,000.00 ain't sh#t. In colombia it is a lot of money? Thanks monkey. But Marco from Texas works in Texas, not Colombia. 10 gr. aint shit.

nbenjamin comments on Successful Medellin Restaurante for Sale - very Cheap!

In a sense - but come on - I am just saying how small the payment is. THats all duridioto. 9,500 - That a small chunck of change.

nbenjamin comments on Successful Medellin Restaurante for Sale - very Cheap!

Finance 9,500.00? That is nothing you could throw it on a credit card? Just curious why finance - just to give you the option if he F'd you over?

nbenjamin comments on President For Colombia

Just a comment. I hate bush. I think he destroyed the U.S.'s image in the world, he dragged this country into a never-ending war, the deficit is out of control, the dollar has gone to sh-t, he has politicized religion, he used 9-11 for his own benefit, his brand of cronyism sickents me etc. With that said, he has been a great President for Colombia. He has increased the amount of money we give to the country and our ties with the country. Who of this batch will be the best? I dont know - but who cares we have our own country to rebuild - OBAMA 08

nbenjamin comments on Renting / Leasing an apartment in Medellin

FYI - the apart hotel does offer large discounts for one month stays. So I would imagine for the month it would be $ 1000 or so. This is pretty expensive for Medellin - but after a month you will find a great deal.

nbenjamin comments on Renting / Leasing an apartment in Medellin

Yummyi - what crawled up that guys ass. S/he provides an example and states how Colombia differs. I have never lived in Colombia but I have live in Europe South America and North America and I have never paid 12 months up front. I know of an apartment hotel that is about 50 dollars a night and it includes breakfast. It has a kitchen, living room etc. If you are interested let me know and I will get the name for you. It is in Poblado, right next to the Body Tech gym. I would show up and look for a place. While paying 12 months up front may be normal, there will be plenty of people in Poblado and other nice neigborhoods who would be happy with first and last. But you may have to go there to find it ... Good luck..
