mranderson comments on what is there to do in Guatepe, Penol, Maranilla, llano grande? Great! I'm not sure I'm going to stick around llano grande. I was thinking of checking out piedra blanca in the morning, from there heading out to maranilla for lunch, then off to guatape. I'm only going to spend 1 night. But plans may change. I haven't figured it out yet that's why I'm hoping to get more suggestions on what I can do in each town.

mranderson comments on what is there to do in Guatepe, Penol, Maranilla, llano grande? thanks mononoke. Horseback riding sounds good to me. Anybody happen to know a good place to go horseback riding with some nice scenery? I don't want to be limited to riding circles in a field.

mranderson comments on SMALL ICE CREAM STORE FOR SALE Or you could just pass the info on to your cousin and she can contact catfish instead of her getting a strange phone call from someone she doesn't know.

mranderson comments on Cost of living (trying to figure out fair amount for child support) I thought child support was to send money to help pay for things like clothes and diapers and stuff. I didn't realize that in colombia you have to pay her rent, buy her a car, and of course spending money so she can go out with her boyfriend.

mranderson comments on Pico y Placa motos de dos tiempos - starts today (July 7) in Medellin I think it's a good step in getting 2-strokes off the road for good. Most of those bikes really smoke a lot and it sucks sitting in traffic surrounded by them. By the way, is the pico y placa de dos tiempos for all day?

mranderson comments on TRIP REPORT...(yes,another).............Los Lomas Finca Hotel Ray do you know if the hotel has a website or a phone number? I've been searching for it but I haven't found anything yet online. I was thinking of taking the wife there next weekend.

mranderson comments on FIX YOU COMPUTER I don't think you can get a hair cut in medellin for 5k pesos anymore let alone get your computer fixed. Seems like a pretty good price to me. I have a lot of problems with my computer running real slow or not responding so I may contact you.

mranderson comments on Paying bills sucks here. You have to wait in line usaully at a bank and they can get pretty long. I had to pay my motorcycle bill last week and I wasn't sure which form to fill out. Well the people at the bank had no idea either and told me I couldn't do it. Unbelievable. I went to another branch and no problems.

mranderson comments on Personal GPS really? I had trouble getting a signal in parts of medellin with my gps.
mranderson comments on Medellin pico y placa -- new extended hours spig, what did you do on pico y placa days when someone ordered delivery during rush hour? Did you have to hire someone else to deliver or did you just tell them it would be a 2 hour wait?
mranderson comments on Personal GPS Of course gps works in colombia. Only trouble you might have is a weak signal if your walking around tall buildings in a city.
mranderson comments on Colombian's life not worth much in the US They were there illegally so they should have never been there in the first place. There's no case.
mranderson comments on They're all over the place. But usaully pretty small with limited selection. I think exito has a better selection.

mranderson comments on Looking for a place to stay walking distance from the Embassy for our interview The hotels walking distance to the embassy are like 300.000 or more a night. I stayed in a decent hotel that cost about 60.000 a night and my taxi bill was about 6.000. I saved over 200k pesos by not staying next to the embassy.

mranderson comments on The Festival of Flowers in Medellin It gets so crowded that if you don't get there early during the day then you won't even be able to see it. At least not with a decent view. Get there early in the day or watch it on tv.

mranderson comments on How do Colombians make money? Sometimes those guys that help you park on the street will block off spaces with buckets or something like that and will let you park there only if you pay them. But you can tell them to fuck off and move their shit out of the way.
mranderson comments on Car vs. public transport Try it on a moto. You don't have to wait for the traffic jams and it's easier to find parking or pull over while looking for your directions. Also excellent on gas. I get 100 miles to the gallon on my 150cc moto.

mranderson comments on If this isn't appropriate for this forum, please delete... I'd like to know where this bar is. 1200 pesos for club colombia? That's really cheap. I haven't been able to find regular pilson for under 1500.

mranderson comments on It seems that worldeditor is toast I didn't read this thread but 101 comments over 1 person. Nice job worldeditor.

mranderson comments on Parque Bolívar, Medellín tejas a friend of mine has a bar on maracaibo st. just around the corner from park bolivar and all the transvestites and prostitutes. I've been there several times late at night and to me it doesn't seem all that bad. There are several strip clubs so even late into the night there's a crowd of seeminly normal people. Although other streets get pretty lonely and my friend told me it's not good to be walking alone there late at night. Late night that is like after 1am. Although I honestly doubt that thugs and ladrones are hanging out on these deserted streets late at night waiting to rob someone. I mean there's nobody to rob, they would be waiting for nothing. I would think it's more dangerous during the day.

mranderson comments on Parque Bolívar, Medellín Some of those drug addicted adolescents will not leave you alone. They will follow you or even walk right beside you for blocks while continually asking for 500 pesos. If you stay in estadio after you check into the hotel just walk around and look for cheaper hotels. Go a block or 2 up or down from the 70 avenue and ask about prices. And of course always ask for a cheaper price then what they say. Tell them you already have a hotel and ask for a discount. Worked for me.
mranderson comments on Parque Bolívar, Medellín It's not that bad of an area. Also right at the end of junin blvd which has lots of shopping, nice restaurants, and plenty of bars scattered around. Close to La playa which is nice too. If you go there just stick to junin, maracaibo, and la playa avenues for late nights. But that area can get pretty lonely late at night and I've been told it's not always safe. I wouldn't recommend staying there just because of your wife. Lots of prostitutes, transvestites, and druggies. La 70 would also be my choice. The bars are a little more expensive but much nicer.

mranderson comments on Who pays maintanace on a rented apartment? Curtains are furnishings. An unfurnished apartment has nothing in it. In some cases it won't even have closets.

mranderson comments on Who pays maintanace on a rented apartment? Change the lock then maybe when you move out put the old broken one back on? Keep your good one for the next place?

mranderson comments on Using the search feature is a good idea but remember you may be reading old information and there's a slight possiblity that something has changed.

mranderson comments on Books - Amazon delivery to Bogota I also ordered from amazon recently and it took almost 3 weeks. I think the shipping cost was about 15 bucks. Book arrived in perfect shape.

mranderson comments on State Department double standard? Sanandressi how do I not let embassy employees push me around? When I went to bogota I hard a very hard time getting in the gate with my blue passport. The colombian guards don't speak a word of english and they wouldnt admit me without an appointment. I screamed at them for half an hour and all that got me was inside the gate to use a telephone. Even then I could not talk to an american citizen on the phone. If I raised my voice past a whisper they just hang up immediately. So how do I tell them that the embassy is there for me? If I say they work for me they laugh at me. I'm convinced that the embassy is only there for the colombians.

mranderson comments on Looking for a musical Instrument store in Medellin There's a shopping center next to citibank on junin that has a few music stores. There are several scattered throughout downtown. I don't remember exact locations but I remember seeing many small stores by just walking around.

mranderson comments on colombian honesty I went to mcdonalds yesterday in san diego medellin and there were definately a lot of people there who can afford to eat whatever they want, whenever they want. And it definately shows too, not one chic with a toned body :(
mranderson comments on colombian honesty My colombian friends here in medellin tell me that I make more money than a lot of the lower estrato people and I certainly can't afford to eat what I want and when I want. Food here is expensive on an average colombian salary. Especially eating out.

mranderson comments on "I heard that the 1.5 Mbps alone is like 1500.000 pesos a month... what is it for 4 MB?" Do people really pay over $800usd a month just for internet? That's over 3 times my rent.
mranderson comments on I've always recieved my packages from the u.s. sent through the mail. Takes about a month.

mranderson comments on Bus terminal in MDE If you don't have any luggage I'll take you there on my bike for only 25.000 pesos.

mranderson comments on Poverty in PBH I'm living month by month on a colombian salary and I don't have a nice cushy u.s. savings to fall back on. I can't even visit my family this year. Anyone want to buy me a beer?

mranderson comments on ENglish teaching course info (TKT) I'm also interested in this. Where in medellin are you thinking of taking this course? I found an institute that offers it near the colombo. I don't remember the price though.

mranderson comments on Sirius and XM Radio in Colombia I just bought a cable with 3.5mm with the other end 2 rca plugs. I plugged it into the headphone jack on my laptop with the rca cables going to the stereo. I'm able to listen to music off the internet but the quality sucks. I don't think my laptop has a sound card. I have a 2 inch slot in the side with a blank hp plastic card in it. Is that where the sound card would go? Would that give me better quality sound?

mranderson comments on Watch the NBA finals at The Tiger Paw in Parque Lleras, Medellin Chris I got to agree with brad on that. The seating in my opinion needs some upgrading.

mranderson comments on why would you want to drink colombian beer in the states? Unless it's really cheap.

mranderson comments on Watch the NBA finals at The Tiger Paw in Parque Lleras, Medellin Is there free secure parking for motos?

mranderson comments on Visa Renewal Gringoloid I registered my visa at DAS in bogota and told them that I live in medellin. They told me it would take 1 month to send the cedula to DAS in medellin. I put it off and waited 2 months but the cedula was waiting for me in medellin when I went to DAS.
