Mononoke28 comments on Obama praises Uribe for graceful acceptance of referendum defeat

It's not just about "praising him for something he's supposed to do". It's the content of the message which is also directed to other presidents and other countries such as Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia since they all seem to want to eliminate the democratic right their people have to choose a new president. If its purpose had been to just "congratulate him" for the sake of doing so, it wouldn't have been made so public. A simple private phone call to Uribe would've been more than enough to take care of it.

Mononoke28 comments on US Immigration now catching overstayed Colombians, catching them while boarding return flight!!!!

miamimike says on Mar 10, 2010, 12:43: flag Diana--Immigration is interested in those who have overstayed his/her US Visa because on occassion(s), these same Visa Scofflaws have a criminal record here in the US for other infractions. ------------------------------------------ That's what I meant, there's gotta be more to it than overstaying a US visa. I find it really, really hard to believe that they will just randomly pick someone, confiscate their Colombian passport, destroy it, and then send them back to Colombia on the next flight if they just overstayed their visa. It doesn't make sense. But if they committed a crime no matter how "insignificant", then yeah, they have every right to stop them from freely leaving the US.

Mononoke28 comments on How do I remain faithful in a long-distance relationship?

Being faithful is based on how much you respect the other person. I'm sick and tired of hearing people blaming it on being in a long distance relationship, that's a cop out. If anyone feels they can't be faithful to their SO, just break it off and do as you like. It's that simple.

Mononoke28 comments on US Immigration now catching overstayed Colombians, catching them while boarding return flight!!!!

Not to contradict the OP but that doesn't make sense. Why would Immigration want to catch a Colombian national who's overstayed his US visa before boarding a plane to leave the US? All they care about is that this person leaves the country and if he's already doing that, why catch him? Besides, the chances of this person being allowed back to the US after the US Embassy sees that he overstayed his visa are slim to none. UNLESS... there's more to the story than an "overstayed visa".

Mononoke28 comments on How do I politely decline food I don't want?

I always apply Nancy Reagan's motto "Just say no". It's short, sweet and to the point. And yeah, I hadn't noticed that most households in Colombia like to serve their food on the plate, I'm so used to it I never noticed. I don't mind it really but here int he US I do serve everything in platters or serving bowls, that way everybody can eat as much as they want.

Mononoke28 comments on ColdPlay Clocks Salsa Version

I love, love, love Coldplay. At the same time, I'm a pretty big fan of Otto Serge who by the way is not singing about wanting to bang someone else's wife in that song, he's already banging her. LOL.

Mononoke28 comments on

It all depends on where you go and how they make it. But the coffee you get at a grocery store in Colombia is not as good as any Colombian coffee you get at a grocery store here in the US. Now, you can tweak it and make it better when you make it and serve it. I personally like both but I can tell that the stuff they export is far superior than the stuff they sell in Colombia.

Mononoke28 comments on No one mentions today is Día del Mujeres?

I personally could care less about this "holiday". It's just another way for companies to make money like Valentine's Day or Secretary's Day.

Mononoke28 comments on ColdPlay Clocks Salsa Version

I like Gloria Estefan's even though I'm not a big fan of her music. But I have to say that salsa with English lyrics is just sacrilegious.

Mononoke28 comments on How do I get Colombians to stop microwaving things?

My husband's family does now own a microwave, they're old school that way. I've tried convincing them to get one or even receive one from me as a gift but they refuse. Why? You guessed it... because it causes cancer. LOL.

Mononoke28 comments on

One of the reasons why the coffee in Colombia does not taste as good as the stuff they export is because they sell the best they have to other countries and keep everything else in Colombia, it's that simple. They make more money that way. I like your idea Noelito but you have to understand that most people in Colombia, not all, but most cannot afford to go into "specialty" coffee shops to enjoy a cup of coffee, so they'd be wasting their time and money. Most people just want a cup of coffee, mainly with milk so they can enjoy it with a nice buñuelo or pandebono. I just cannot imagine seeing people like my own family going into a specialy coffee shop to learn about coffee. I can just see them saying "tinto es tinto y listo". LOL.

Mononoke28 comments on Value of a wife in Colombia.....

Yeah but to put a value on a "wife" as if it were some sort of thing you get at an auction. I'm trying to think if the OP was actually asking about marriage itself and if it's even worth it anymore and fudged it all up with asking on "how valuable a wife is in Colombia". But for some reason I seriously doubt those were his intentions. Because if that's the case, then I can honestly say just about the same thing about how worthless it is for a woman to have a man in her life nowdays, since many times their not worth anything at all. Tomato, tomahtoh, type a thing.

Mononoke28 comments on Colombian eating habits

As Desi mentioned, it's called "pimienta negra" and they sell it everywhere, don't know why you can't find in Quilla, that's odd. I do know that my mother in-law never uses it because according to her "it causes stomach cancer". Just like so many Colombians who thing anything causes any kind of cancer. LOL.

Mononoke28 comments on Shakira wins medal for charity work but, can she sing!

Certainly more than me or anyone else in PBH has probably done. By Rikito on Mar 5, 2010, 12:11 (today) ---------------------------------------- You don't know that. You don't know what charities I donate to and how much money I give every year. On top of that you don't know which and/or how many charities I volunteer my time to and/or how many hours a month or even year. That goes for me and everyone else in this forum. It's a horrible way to defend Shakira. Not getting your facts straight.

Mononoke28 comments on Value of a wife in Colombia.....

Mononoke28 comments on SOMOS EL MUNDO (We Are The World in Spanish) with Juanes and Shakira!

I'm sure these singers donated to help Haiti in some other way, so that's good. So did I, and so did many other people. But the question remains, why on earth did they want to make a horrible version of "We Are the World", that's just lazy not to mention sacrilegious in my opinion. Why not write a new song? An original song? This version sucks major hairy, sweaty ass.

Mononoke28 comments on How do Colombians treat nits?

I've never heard them being called nits, that's funny. We got head lice once when we lived in Palmira and the doctor prescribed us a special shampoo that got rid of everything.

Mononoke28 comments on Any special custom when people die?

My family has said the same thing and I can't really think about not giving someone a "proper" burial unless they specify it, like you said CG, in a will. I just couldn't do it. As for myself, I'd like to have the basics, a funeral with my cremated remains because I don't want people staring at me stiff in a box, a nice mass and then have them put me in the family osuary we have in Medellín. For some reason that gives me peace of mind even though it may not matter at all.

Mononoke28 comments on Any special custom when people die?

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) says on Mar 1, 2010, 14:29 (today): flag When I die, they can just throw my dead ass in the nearest dumpster. I find few things more despicable than the scumbags in the funeral industry that prey on grieving family members. I'd rather my survivors take a nice vacation than spend thousands of dollars on a funeral. ----------------------------------- The things is, even though the funeral is for you and your body, in reality is meant for the grieving family. It's just a way for them to ease the pain of you leaving them, but it's never about the dead really, so that's why most people get a funeral with flowers and all kinds of bells and whistles. Now, if you were a total SOB when you were alive then I'm sure they could care less, although my dad always said "no hay muerto malo".

Mononoke28 comments on getting a masters degree in colombia - worth it?

All I know is that my unemployed sister in-law has had a hard time landing a job in Colombia mainly because of two things. One, she's 37 years-old, so she's "over the hill" in Colombian standards. And two, she doesn't have a masters degree. For some reason they keep asking for this at every job she applies, even before they know her age. She's an accountant by the way.

Mononoke28 comments on Any special custom when people die?

This is the Colombian in me talking but one of the things I cannot get used to in the US is the wake families have after the funeral. Most people seem to show up just for the buffet and in all honesty, if a family member dies, I want to get it over with and not have people at my house after it's all said and done.

Mononoke28 comments on Petition for Wife, I am an american citizen. Do I really have to wait 1 to 2 years so she can come to the US?

scumbuster says on Feb 25, 2010, 15:31: flag Looks like less of a pain to get married in the US...K1 --------------------------------------------------- Actually, filing for a CR1 visa is not a pain in the ass and takes just as long as K1. In fact, I personally think that a K1 visa is a total waste of time and money since the beneficiary can't do much but sit around and wait for 3-6 months for a work permit and 6-12 months for a green card. On top of that they have to pay the additional $1,010 for it. None of that with the CR1. So, unless they have a huge reason to wait and get married in the US, which most people don't, the K1 is not the way to go.

Mononoke28 comments on Petition for Wife, I am an american citizen. Do I really have to wait 1 to 2 years so she can come to the US?

That's the catch though, you cannot file only the I-129F for a K3 because because that form alone is a petition for an Alien Fiancé(e). In order for it to qualify for a K3, an I-130 has to be filed first, in fact every I-129F filed for a K3 needs to have a photcopy of the NOA received from the I-130 or at least some sort of evidence that the I-130 was already filed. Otherwise, the USCIS will send it right back. So, for an I-129F to be approved BEFORE an I-130 the person approving the I-130 has to have some sort big ass backlog or family emergency that would keep him or her from approving it before the I-129F. Most petitions get approved at the same time or the I-130 usually makes it to the NVC before the I-129F. But like I said... assuming you file the I-129F now and the NVC receives it before the I-130, a K3 visa gets processed maybe a 1-4 weeks at the most, faster than a CR1. Guaranteed.

We found him in the yellow pages and he did a very good job, granted after I saw the translation I realized that I could've done it myself. But anyway, we asked for 2 copies of the translation, $9k pesos (back in 2007) each and that was that. He works from home in Laureles, very nice neighborhood and he's also a very nice guy.

Bottom line is she cannot finish competing in the event she skied in today. She has one more event on Friday though.

Mononoke28 comments on Petition for Wife, I am an american citizen. Do I really have to wait 1 to 2 years so she can come to the US?

That is correct. As of 02/01/10 the NVC's new rule is that they have to receive the I-129F BEFORE the I-130 to process it for a K3 which rarely happens. They usually get them both at the same time or get the I-130 before the I-129F. Here's the link: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2993.html Important Notice: Effective February 1st, 2010, when both the I-129F petition for a nonimmigrant K visa and the I-130 petition for an IR-1 (or CR-1) spouse of a U.S. citizen visa have been approved by USCIS and sent to the National Visa Center (NVC), the availability as well as the need for a nonimmigrant K-3 visa ends. If the NVC receives both petitions: * The nonimmigrant K visa will be administratively closed. * The application process explained below will not be applicable and cannot be used. * The NVC will contact the petitioner and you with instructions for processing your IR-1 (or CR-1) immigrant visa. For more information on the immigrant visa process review the Immigrant Visa for a Spouse webpage. If the NVC does not receive your I-130 petition and I-129F at the same time, the NVC will process your I-129F petition.

Mononoke28 comments on Chavez: I want to normalize relations with Colombia

I don't think that any country is capable of having "normal" relations with Venezuela, unless they're kissing ass like Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Argentina. The only reason why they seem to be amicable is only because Chávez is helping these countries financially. And besides, what does he mean by "normalizing" relations? He's been helping the FARC behind everyone's back and he's been insulting our government prior to the shouting match he had with Uribe, so how normal of a relationship can that be? He's delusional!

Mononoke28 comments on Colombiana in the wintergames will start today after 1pm colombian time

I agree, she's just taking advantage of the situation and for what? She was disqualified today anyway. I'm glad, I can't find it in my heart to support her at all. It would be totally different if her story read along the lines of her living in Colombia for a quite a while that she feels like she's part of it, or if she loves the country so much she felt the need to represent it, or that she became a Colombian citizen because she feels like one, whatever crap she wants to make up. But she flat out did it just so she could go to the games. Whatever!

Mononoke28 comments on mexican visa for colombian citizen

Mononoke28 comments on Médicos cubanos demandan por 'esclavitud'

As much as I want to agree with them since I believe Cuba is one of the worst places on earth, what does this have to do with Colombia?

Mononoke28 comments on Colombiana in the wintergames will start today after 1pm colombian time

http://www.eltiempo.com/deportes/otrosdeportes/eliminada-representante-de-colombia-en-olimpicos_7298885-1 For one, she's not Colombian, she just took advantage of it so she could appear in the games. And secondly, she was disqualified. What a waste! In reading further, she got her Colombian citizenship pretty much so she could qualify for the games, not because she's proud of the country or loves it so much she had to get it. Puhlease, what a fake! That completely pisses me off!

Mononoke28 comments on Petition for Wife, I am an american citizen. Do I really have to wait 1 to 2 years so she can come to the US?

K3 visas are no longer available so you're stuck with either an IR1 or CR1. If you have been married for more than 2 years, then she will receive an IR1 visa. If not, then she will receive a CR1 visa. But it really wouldn't have mattered since both took just as long as the K3 visa anyway. You cannot file for a K1 visa because that is a fiancée visa and you're already married. Also, it depends to which service center you sent your I-130. The VSC takes more than 6 months for an approval while the CSC takes about 3 months. But in all reality it hasn't been that long since you filed, I mean you filed in October and we're still in February. Gotta be patient my friend.

Mononoke28 comments on Ok, you live in Colombia and have 50K USD to generate a Colombian peso income? How would you do it?

We've thought about this as well and have always come up with two options: 1. as others have said, buy an apartment and rent it out. Or 2. buy a cab and have someone drive it. I have a couple of family members who drive cabs for a living and it can generate as much money as renting.
